What is the Best DVD Encoder According to These Posts

I Have read many of the posts here and I was wondering, overall, which DVD ripping program I should use. I used DVD Ripper and that worker fine, except that it saved my DVD into 4 parts rather than one big one. Is there a better free program?
Also,I used iPod Converter (Videora) and that worker well too. Is there a better setting for more accurate proportions? On my iPod the people in my movie are too thin.
Thanks

Dante,
The reason the people in your movie "are too thin" is because when you encoded the file to use on your iPod, you were taking a 16:9 movie (or widescreen if you want to call it that) and converting it into a 4:3 movie (also known as full screen).
If you were using the default Videora settings, you probably had your screen size as 320x240. This is why the figures in the movie have been made to look thin. You took what was once a long rectangle and squeezed it into a much shorter rectangle. I suggest you change your settings (because this is what I did and get images that you were proportioned) in Videora to 320x176. This will give you a "widescreen" image when the file is transcoded. Just make sure that you are only using that for widescreen movies. If you take a fullscreen movie (such as an older television show or 80% of broadcast television today) and try to change it to 320x176, the figures will look short and fat.
Hope that helps. Took me a little while to figure out what settings to use, but I eventually got it to work just fine.

  • What is the best DVD burner?

What is the best DVD burner for a G4 Dual? Internal or external? Brand? I am having burn problems wherein some burned DVDs do not run. I use a burn speed of 1xDVD with Toast 7 and an image file.

Many like the Pioneer (DVR-110D) or NEC (ND-3550A) brand. Since you have an MDD, I'd install a new drive underneath the original (if the original drive is still good). My MDD has the original Pioneer DVR-104 and a new DVR-110D. Internal drives are much less expensive that external drives (~$40 for OEM drive versus $179 for boxed external). I was able to get Toast Titanium for $39 (with rebates) and the 110D for $40.

I've been using a flip video camera since 2009 and all of my videos are in the flipshare library.  What is the best way to burn all these videos to a DVD that will play on my DVD player/tv?  The flipshare library is taking up too much space on my Macbook and I wanted to delete these videos once they were all tranferred to DVDs.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

I do backup with iCloud.  I can't wait until the new iMac is available so that I can once again have my files in more than 1 location without needing to rely solely on the cloud.
I also rely on iTunes and my MacBook and Time Machine as well as backing up to iCloud. I know many users know have gone totally PC free, but I chose to use iCloud merely as my third backup.
I assume that the restore would result in my ability to open Pages and Numbers and fix the problem with deleting apps, but this would also mean that if my Numbers documents still exist solely within the app and are just not on iCloud for some reason that they would be gone forever.  Is that right?
In a word, yes. In a little more detail.... When you restore from an iCloud backup, you must erase the device and start all over again. There is no other way to access the backup in iCloud without erasing the device. Consequently, you are starting all over again. Therefore, it would also be my assumption that Pages and Numbers will work again and that the deleting apps issues would be fixed as well.
If the documents are not in the backup, and you do not have a backup elsewhere, the documents could be gone forever.

What is the best dvd burning program with a nice menu like idvd that works with Final cut pro, I am wanting to burn mainly wedding dvds but also sports and other things we used to use idvd but then upgraded our computers and now we dont have it. idvd was the only thing i could find that worked.

There is no real substitute for iDVD.
Why is there no iDVD on my new Mac? How do I get it and how do I install it?

To burn a DVD with iDVD from the latest version of iMovie, you have to export the movie using the Export button and select 480p as the size. Open iDVD and start a new project, then drag that exported movie file into the iDVD menu window, avoiding any drop zones you see.

  • What is the best DVD Creator for a Mac Book Pro to replace iDVD?

What is the Best DVD Creator for a Mac Book Pro to replace iDVD?  Have Maverick OS.

I have already looked at other threads in this forum, so 'I venture forth' to ask my question here:
I have a 44 minute carefully edited iMovie with several chapter markers. I dimly recollect that when you 'dump' the entire movie into iDVD (my version is 7.1) it should detect the markers and create buttons to link to specific scenes. Well, the 'dumping' process obviously doesn't work.
How do you get iDVD to recognize the markers and ceate buttons to link?
I can create with iDVD a DVD that will play the movie in its entirety. This is not suitable for my purposes. I need access via a menu to specific scenes.

  • What is the best dvd burning software

what is the best software to use on my macbook pro to burn videos from a video camera sd card onto a dvd

If you actually want to create a DVD that can be watched on any DVD player, you'll need some DVD authoring software. Apple used to sell iDVD, which was great and very simple, but it's been discontinued now. You can, however, still get it if you buy one of the iLife '11 packages from Amazon. You also could use Roxio's Toast Titanium (new version out just now) 12. There are some shareware apps out there, I believe, but I'm only familiar with iDVD and Toast.
    Good luck,

  • What is the best DVD encripter??

what is the best way 2 get my dvds onto my ipod???

look at afterdawn.com for detailed discussion of software to decrypt protected DVD's. Note that DVD Makers such as Sony are constantly coming out with new additional measeures beyond the standard CSS encryption to protect their DVD's, So newer DVD's may require some additional cleverness beyond just loading a personal favorite, such as DVD Decrypter. Another interesting program is AnyDVD, also noted on their site for the PC world, and Mactheripper for the Mac world.
Fair warning - Backing up your DVD collection is an all consuming effort that will consume your entire existance !

  • What's the best way to copy a big poster and print it out?

I'm doing a big art project (around 5ft by 5ft), where I'm going to draw stuff out by hand, and would like to make a copy of that project by scanning it into the computer, or taking high-res photos of the project and compiling them together in the computer, and then printing the image out at that size, or bigger. So, I will have the original, 5x5ft, and a printed copy.
What's the best way of doing this?
I hear that vector images are ideal for this, so is Illustrator recommended for this?
I know it's a vector graphics program, but is there any way I can take a bitmap image from a scan or photo, and somehow turn it into a vector? If this is not possible, what recommendations would you have?
    I have Illustrator CS2.

Take the photo in one shot by a camera with 24MP, e.g.
    http://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/d3x.htm
This should be sufficient for a poster reproduction 5ft square
    as a raster image.
For vectorizing one doesn't need high resolution (it's often
recommended to blur the source image).
Perspective and lens corrections can be applied by Photoshop,
but the lighting should be well balanced.
Barrel distortion by wide angle lens is really no problem.
    Plenty examples:
All photos here were taken without tripod by a 170 Euro camera.
    http://www.fho-emden.de/~hoffmann/andalusien13032010.pdf
Especially see p.20, a photo (with flash) of an exhibition photo,
viewing direction not orthogonal to the object, then perspectively
    and lens-distortion corrected.
(The PDF shows the photos heavily downsampled).

  • What is the best quality encoding ?

I am buring a DVD on iDVD8. I am trying to set the encoding. There are 3 options: Best Performance, High Quality and Professional Quality. Reading the iDVD quide, it was not clear at all, what would give me the best quality.
Set aside the background encoding, and all other factors, what would give the BEST quality out of the 3 options ?
Why Apple could not say that in simple words in the guide ?

    Quoting F Shippey here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=5248366&#5248366
iDVD 6 offers 'Best Performance' (under 60 minutes on a SL disc) and 'Best Quality' encoding (under 120 minutes on a SL disc).
iDVD '08 offers 'Best Performance' (under 60 minutes on a SL disc), 'Best Quality' encoding (under 120 minutes on a SL disc) and 'Professional Quality' encoding (under 120 minutes on a SL disc).
With either version, if your content is under 60 minutes 'Best Performance' will give you the best quality!
If your content is OVER 60 minutes and under 120 minutes 'Professional Quality' in iDVD '08 should give better overall quality than 'Best Quality'

    $129.99 includes Toast 6 Lite
The $129.99 unit that comes with Toast 6 Lite can be found on the web for a lot less. Later, if you outgrow Toast 6 you can upgrade to Toast 8 (which is the latest version).

My experience with Lacie and Sony burners has always been positve and Toast is good to have around, it's always complimented iDVD well (in addition to having a host of other useful features).
    Note:
I'm not familiar with any of Toast 6 lite's features, but I do know you can burn DVD's with it. It adds another means of authoring a DVD outside of iDVD.

  • What is the best workflow for me, need heavy post production

    Hi,
I recently filmed a video where a person was in front of a green screen. The camera broke the video up into several clips. I am going to chroma key out the green screen and there are a lot of effects I want to do.
I'd like to skip straight to AE because I know it better and I have a lot of work there to do. The problem is, I can't hear the audio and it plays real slow.
Is it possible to start in AE or should I start in Premiere? Can you recommend a short series of steps I should take to make this work?
    Thanks
    Stan

I recently filmed a video where a person was in front of a green screen.
Using what kind of camera?  What's the footage's acquisition codec?  I'll assume that you're well-versed in lighting for green screen.
I'd like to skip straight to AE because I know it better and I have a lot of work there to do. The problem is, I can't hear the audio and it plays real slow.
It appears you need to know a little more about AE, specifically about RAM previewing:
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/aftereffects/cs/using/WS3878526689cb91655866c1103906c6dea-7ec9 a.html
It would also be good to know what you mean by "skip straight to AE".  How are you capturing this video you shot?
Is it possible to start in AE or should I start in Premiere?
I don't know what the rest of your project is like, but for just about any project I've ever heard of, the workflow is to capture video, edit the video, and export the parts that require work in AE.  The fact that you have a ton of green-screen clips doesn't have a lot of bearing on that workflow.

  • What are the best DVD ripping settings to avoid a choppy QT performance?

I ripped some of my DVDs with Handbreak, and I put them on my PB 12" running 10.4.5 and Quicktime 7.0.4. The performance is really bad with H264 code, and acceptable with standard mpeg4 codec (I occasionally get some stuttering). Which of the following parameters (beside the codec) can improve the QT performance on slower computers?
    1) The size of the final QT file (will a 1GB QT file stutter more, compared to a 600MB file?)
    2) The 1-pass or 2-pass option (so far I've been using only the 2-pass option)
    3) The bitrate (will a 1000kbps get less chances to stutter than a 2000kbps)?
    Thanks!
    Powerbook g4 12   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

If you're using any "ripping" software to convert DVD's to QuickTime formats you are at the mercy of the encoding (and the software that creates it).
If your Mac has trouble with the file your only options are to reduce the data rate or the movie dimensions.
I've done a few tests (using H.264) that yield satisfactory results on my Mac mini.
I edit the display dimensions (prior to export) to half size (640X480 becomes 320X240) and use the H.264 video codec (my Mac Mini can handle it) and then use QT Pro to display the file at double size (back to 640X480).
Quality does suffer but playback works even on my old G3 iMac.

  • What is the best DVD copy software

Not according to the people I have rented from because I asked them.  They provided me with a suggestion I simply thought I would get another opinion.
I am not trying to get anything for free I just want more than 24 hours to finish watching a movie on my iPad.  If iTunes would give more than 24 hours to finish a movie (like 48???) it would help.  I have spend endless hours trying to comunicate with Apple about the issue.  Guess what no one cares!  I love Apple and my Apple products, I am a very good customer but I think they are over the top on this issue, they have a monopoly.
    Maybe you have another suggestion??
This is the first time I have ever used a "Support Community" for ANY product, sorry I broke the rules.  I have never taken anything for free from anywhere.
