What is the best ethernet cable to connect a macbook pro to a wall jack?

Hey everyone, I have a 2012 macbook pro and next year for college I will need an ethernet cable for my dorm room. The only info my schools gives me about what cord to get is, "you will need is a standard (straight-through) Ethernet cable to connect the computer/device to wall jack." So my question to you all is, what is the best one that I can purchase? Thanks-Kevin.

Go to Best Buy, tell them you need to connect a computer to a wall jack.  Most of the cables out there are the correct ones (literally ... 95% of the ones in the store are) and you need to ask for the corss-over cables used to connect routers to briges (do not ask ... really, do not ask).
Do not pay top dollar for it.  I have a rag-tag fleet of cables in various stages or repair, but they mostly all work.

What is the best way to transfer iPhoto from MacBook Pro to iMac?

the only way is Connect the two Macs together (network, firewire target mode, etc) and drag the iPhoto library intact as a single entity from the old Mac to the pictures folder of the new Mac - launch iPhoto on the new mac and it will open the library and convert it as needed and you will be ready move forward.

What is the best way to back up my MacBook Pro (OSX 10.9.5) before taking it in for service?

While I have nothing against Time Machine (and I do use it on some of my systems), I always make a bootable clone before taking a Mac in for service (2 actually), and I verify that clone boots before I let the Mac leave.
SuperDuper is free for a full clone (you only pay for incremental features).

what is the best 500GB HDD for a 2007 macbook pro. This is a pre unibody machine.
I am upgrading at the minute and can't make my mind up. I need a 7200rpm drive, but have heard some stories concerning overheating etc.
These are the drives I am looking at: Seagate Momentus, Hitachi Travelstar and Western Digital all 500GB, running at 7200rpm.

If you haven't already, you might look a the user comments at http://www.newegg.com on those hard drives. If you don't get other comments here, you might post in the MBP discussion (this is the iMac discussion) at https://discussions.apple.com/community/notebooks/macbook_pro

  • What is the best protective case for 2011 13" Macbook Pro

What is the best protective case for 2011 13" Macbook Pro (that can withstand an active 4 year old :).   My 4 year old plays with the teaching apps on my iPhone 4 in the otterbox case and its great - the bulkiness of the otterbox not an issue and I love being able to give the phone to him and feel completely comforatable. I would love to find something to protect my Macbook Pror. Thanks for any help!!

I would definitely go for a Hardsheel or a Perforated Hardshell Case

  • What is the best camcorder to buy using my MacBook Pro

I just purchased the MacBook Pro (1st time Mac owner).  I am wondering if there is a particular camcorder that would work best for making videos using iMovie.  I have purchased a Sony Handycam AVCHD and googled the reviews.  It seems people have some problems using this camcorder with the MacBook.  Any suggestions.  1.  Will the camcorder I bought be just fine or do I need to return this and purchase a different one.  I just want to record my kids activities and make home movies to send to their grandparents.  Thanks

Which is the best mouse to use with my macbook pro?
"It depends" is the correct answer.
If you love using gestures, you'll want a Magic Mouse or Magic Trackpad.
If you love high precision, a trackball is often preferable to a mouse.
If you love modified mouse actions, a mouse with extra programmable buttons is a good idea.
If you love gaming, a responsive high-resolution gaming mouse is probably best.
If you love graphics/art, it is possible no mouse is best; instead you want a pressure-sensitive stylus and tablet for maximum control over painting and retouching.
No one else can tell you what the best is, unless they share your preferences exactly.

  • What is the best program to run on my MacBook Pro to clean it up?

can anyone tell me what the best program to run on a MacBook Pro to clean it up, make it run faster?

When you next have the problem, note the exact time: hour, minute, second.
If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Scroll back to the time you noted above. Select the messages entered from then until the end of the episode, or until they start to repeat, whichever comes first. Copy the messages to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of it useless for solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough. It is never necessary or helpful to post more than about 100 lines. "The more, the better" is not the rule here.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.

  • What is the best ethernet cable in the Apple Store?  I see they have CaT6 now and gold plated ends.

Is the Belkin 7' Cat6 Ethernet Cable sold in the Apple Store a good ethernet cable to use and replace for my broken CAT5 very old ethernet?
If you do not beleive they make better ethernet cables now, I do not agree.  If there is somebody who knows the ethernet cables, what is your opinion on the best CAT6 ethernet cable for hooking up my MBP to a ethernet port?

I hesitate to respond because of your previous postings to others but here goes...
You know that Ethernet cat 5, cat6, etc are standards. If an Ethernet cable is cat6 for example it will perform as well as any other cat6 cable since it meets the standard.
If you want to pay more for a cable because it has gold connectors that is up to you. The gold Ethernet cable will not perform any better than non-gold Ethernet cables. The difference is only in appearance, and maybe quality of the shielding and connectors. Performance is the same.

  • What is the best ethernet cable in the Apple Store?  I see they have CaT6 now and gold plated ends.  is this worth buying since my old ethernet is kind of trashed?

is any one of the Belkin ethernet CAT6 better than the /cAT5 since my ethernet cable is trahed?  Any sugggestions on what ethernet is most like the current ethernet cable that you plug into the MBP and the hotel room? (for example)

Actually, I'm an outstanding researcher in medicine.  I keep people alive.  All you do is spend extra money to keep Monster executives rolling in cash.
    Evidence:
    CNET
Crutchfield (who sells this stuff and would like to make more money)
I could go on.  But you have your own belief, not establish but supporting evidence, and spending money for a marginal difference.  Do you understand the physics behind the gold plating?  Well, I do, and I reject it, based on both the physical chemistry of the metals and, of course, the physics.  Again, if you ran gold from one end to the other, then maybe you could convince me of a marginal difference in conductivity of the electrons, but because the gating material will be the copper/aluminum/steel or whatever is used before the gold plated ends, there will be no difference.  Morever, the quality of signal is dependent on other factors including length of the cable, which impacts resistance (see metals above).  This is basic basic basic Physics 101.
Now, the worst part of this.  You posted a question, asking for opinions.  I gave one based on evidence provided by others who actually did study this.  They indicated that there was no difference between HDMI cables to use as a proxy for ethernet cable.  I made no value opinion, just here was one piece of data.  You returned with a strawman fallacy based on your opinion.  Further, you wasted our time here by posting a question for which you already had made your own conclusion.  I assume you were looking for validation of said conclusion, instead of being openminded to the potential of being incorrect.
So, I'm happy that you wasted my time, since it is free.  Good luck with your cable.  And rudeness does not get you far.

  • What is thes best 5.1 speaker kit for macbook pro 2011

what is the best 5.1 speaker kit for my macbook pro
    thanks for help.

A 5.1 is considered a surround sound system, it's typically used in home theater systems, not computers.
A computer doesn't have the necessary electronics to produce the rich quality of sound that a 5.1 system can deliver, the PC 5.1's are just gamers gimmick cards, they too really don't have the necessary electronics or wattage for rich, full bodied sound.
Now I can tell you what works really well as a 5.1 system for iTunes, movies and such from your MacBook Pro, or anything really.
A Harmon Kardon 5.1 Home Theater.
It has 110 Watt speakers, 5 of them, and a 200 watt subwoofer that will make your heart thump in your chest.
You need only two things with this system, a optical stereo mini Toslink adapter and a optical Toslink cable.
You plug one inside your MacBook Pro (enable the optical out) and the other to the receiver and mess with the remote to enable theater mode from the computer for iTunes (takes stereo and makes it quad sound with separate bass)
For playing DVD's with 5.1, you enable the right 5.1 encoding, Dolby, ProLogic etc on both and the Mac passes the 5.1 through the system to the receiver.
For playing 3D games, you just pass the 5.1 through, the receiver handles the surround sound.
The important thing is setup, the listening point needs to be right in the center of the four channel speakers, the center is over your monitor or TV and the subwoofer is stuck in a free corner someplace, it's placement is unimportant, as long as it's in the room and not blocked.
Brother, you have system like this hooked up to your iTunes and tears will be falling from your eyes the music sounds so good. Makes you full hear the full quality of the iTunes bought music.
Will set you back a couple of thousand, but it's worth it. All the cables etc are color coded, easy to setup.

    Hope that helps

  • What is the best way to protect my new Macbook Pro?

I finally have a shinny new 13" Macbook Pro Rentina and I'm wondering what is the best way to protect it? I am considering either a hard case or a sleeve but which one is the best? This thing is worth more than my car and I can't afford for anything to happen to it! Hard case? Sleeve? Both?

Congratulations on your MBPR! I had the exact same question when I bought mine. I ended up using a hard case and a sleeve. For the case I went with the Kuzy Hard Case and an Incase Deluxe Sleeve. Using a sleeve and case is great and I feel like my Macbook is very well protected and I am no longer scared of breaking it with this setup! Best of luck!

  • HT1338 Help, I need to update my OS to Lion. What is the best way? I have a Macbook Pro 2008

I'm late in updating my OS to Lion. Im on a MacBook Pro 2008. does anyone have advice as to the best way to proceed?

Click here and read all of the steps to the bottom; if you want to upgrade to 10.7 but not 10.8 for some reason, instead of buying 10.8 from the Mac App Store, phone the online Apple Store and order a download code for 10.7.

  • What is the best audio production hard drive for macbook pro 13" 2.53 ghz?

I'm new to mac, this has been a big transition.
I've been looking on newegg and there are tons of choices.
Looking for a good hard drive for music production in live 8, 7200 rpm has been recommended. Should it be internal or external?
I'm making minimalist oldschool synthpop so I don't need too many plugins or tracks at once but I am gigging so I want gear that's simple, I love everything about the apogee duet in this respect.
    I have macbook pro 13" 2.53 ghz 4GB ram
    Apogee Duet
    Ableton live 8 standard

For internal, you can't go wrong with the Hitachi Travelstar. They work very well with the MacBook Pro and right now you can get 300 GB of 7200 RPM for less than 75 dollars at Newegg. You could try that and see if you really need an external given the type of music you're working with.
If you decide to get an external, I would steer away from all-purpose drives and get one designed for audio, like the Glyph drives. Along the Apogee Duet simplicity lines, they're designed for music production and they just work. Most of them come with carrying cases. Just plug the Glyph into your MacBook Pro, plug the Duet into the Glyph, and that's it.
