What is the best laptop for a graphic design student?

Hi, I`m going to study graphic design. I want to buy a new computer for this purpose.
Which qualities should I look for? Which computers work good with Adobe Creative Suite® 6?
Thank you for advice.

You didn't defined a budget. So for best for the buck I would definitly go for a Lenovo IdeaPad 510p.
Very good overall performance : Great processor, very power graphic card (really nice for Video Editing), SSD + HDD combo wich make it really fast to boot and use softwares.
It has also a very nice Full HD screen with REALLY nice colors. IdeaPad Y series have really good screens compared to every other companies (even Samsung).
Last touch : Backlid keyboard, aluminium cover and "slim" (for the components).
Usually start at 1200$ but they have alot of specials. Right now its 849$
Up to 4th Gen Intel® Core™ i7 processor
Windows 8
NVIDIA® GeForce® GT750M 2GB graphics
Up to 16GB DDR3 memory

I have HP Pavilion g6 Notebook,i5-245M 2.5GHZ, 4 GB mwmory, 64-bit Operating system window 7, Radeon Graphics, Eidtior not working , I get error message ( Unable to continue because of hardware or system error,Sorry, but this error in unercoverable).
So I want to give this one to my son, and I want to bay new One for me,
but i do not want to have same Error with my new Laptop,
So any one know what is the best Laptop for PhotoShop Elements 10 ?
    Thanks for Helping me .

I would suggest a machine with a multi-core processor and plenty of storage as photo files take up quite a lot of room over time. Many laptops have a screen resolution of 1366 x 768 and whilst elements will run OK some menu functionality will be missing if the display is not at least 800 pixels in height. A resolution of 1600 x 900 would be much better.

  • What's the best MacBook for basic graphic editing?

    Hi there,
I've been saving up to finally get a MacBook after having a pro during university (stupidly it got soaked in my bag during a thunderstorm and didn't have any insurance on it). However, I'm trying to save as much money as I can so can't afford the high end laptops.
All I need for the MacBook to do is run the following programs without it becoming slow in the long run:
    Adobe Photoshop CC
    Adobe Dreamweaver CC
    Adobe InDesign CC
    Microsoft Office Home & Business
The basic system requirements for the Adobe CC programs are:
Multicore Intel processor with 64-bit support
    Mac OS X v10.7, v10.8, or v10.9
    2GB of RAM
    3.2GB of available hard-disk space
1280x1024 display with 16-bit video card
QuickTime 7.6.6 software required for HTML5 media playback
All I need it for is templating and editing newsletters as well as creative posters/flyers/brochures.
I'm deciding whether I should just get the basic 13-inch MacBook Air, 13-inch Macbook Pro (with Retina display) or 2.5GHz Mac mini? Bear in mind that I'll have to purchase the Micrsoft Office program (approx. £157 on Amazon) & get a screen/keyboard/mouse with the Mac Mini).
I have around £1,000 to spend and really unsure as to what to buy.
Please note, I am not interested in buying a Windows equivelant (as I cannot stand Windows 8/8.1).
    Thanks!

Any of those Macs will meet the basic specs for Office and Adobe. The real question is how you configure what you buy, based on how you are going to use the programs. The system requirements listed are definitely basic. They are about as basic as saying that you could buy a 2-seater Smart Car as your transportation: You could, but you'd be very limited in what you could do.
If you are going to run any one program at a time, the base model of any of those Macs (4GB RAM) will be fine. But working on newsletters and flyers, for efficiency's sake you will probably have more than one program open at a time: Word for preparing text, Photoshop for preparing photos, and Dreamweaver or InDesign where you lay it all out, going back and forth between them. That increases your RAM needs. 8GB would be a good place to be, but if you can afford to buy with the maximum amount of RAM that would help future-proof the Mac (since future versions of software always need more RAM, not less).
Having more RAM is more critical if you plan to use Photoshop for fancy stuff like cameras with lots of megapixels, raw editing, panoramas, HDR, or 3D. If you are just doing basic photo editing, 8GB RAM is fine. The other software you listed doesn't need as much RAM so more than one of them will run fine together under 8GB RAM.
If you get a MacBook Air or MacBook Pro, they start with only 128GB storage and it cannot be upgraded. That might not be enough space in the long run if you use a lot of graphics files and photos, so think about specifying at least 256GB storage in whatever you buy if your newsletter projects are large and you don't want to store them on external drives. The Mac mini starts out with a nice big hard drive.
What it will probably come down to is, spec out all three models you are considering with at least 8GB RAM and as much storage as you will need during the life of the computer, then pick the one that fits your budget. If you need portability, cross off the Mac mini.

  • What are the ideal specs for professional graphic designer using CS5 illustrator, photoshop and indesign?g

What are the ideal Mac Pro specs for a professional graphic designer using CS5 Premium- using mostly InDesign, Illustrator and PhotoShop?

    24GB RAM
    SSD for boot drive
GHz, but not necessarily dual. Apple doesn't sell dual 3.33s.
A single 3.33 6-core should do fine and "sweet spot" (when looking, there is "4-core" build to order..,. and like everything else on the Store, why in heavens they didn't be more accurate and clear and say "single socket" and then have "dual processor configurations" 0 I guess the writers don't understand or know workstations or jargon? I say that 'cause some have trouble even finding the 6-core 3.33 choice ($1200 over stock 2.8 4-core).
W3680 though can be found on Buy.com for $620 (was $589 at earlier date) and people are known to then sell the stock cpu $300 making it even more attractive and save $600-900 that way rather easily. Or not.
But yes, I would send you to MPG.com site as well and read through what is on there.

  • What is the best laptop for architectural design?

I mostly need if for revit. I currently have a lenovo thinkpad T61. It has been great but is getting old, and I think it is about to crap out. I would like to stay with lenovo but im up for any suggestions.

    Hello,
It might be best to look at the requirements for the architectural design software that you want to run, and then look at which systems match those specifications.

  • HT4914 I purchased iMatch because my old computer was failing and I was afraid of losing my music library. Now I bought a new laptop; what is the best way for me to transfer my library to my new laptop? Will iMatch help me do this?

I purchased iMatch because my old computer was failing and I was afraid of losing my music library. Now I bought a new laptop; what is the best way for me to transfer my library to my new laptop? Will iMatch help me do this?

    Is/was failing or has failed?
If the old computer still runs one of these methods may be best.
    Method 1
Backup the library with this User Tip.
Restore the backup to your new computer using the same tool used to back it up.
Deauthorize the old computer if you no longer want to access protected content on it.
Keep your backup up-to-date in future.
    Method 2
Connect the two computers to the same network. Share your <User's Music> folder from the old computer and copy the entire iTunes library folder into the <User's Music> folder on the new one. Again, deauthorize the old computer if no longer required.
I'd recommend method 1 since it establishes an ongoing backup for your library.
I don't have personal experience with iTunes Match, but in principle you should be able to download all the tracks currently registered to your iTunes Match account. This isn't quite the same as restoring your previous library exactly as it was. There is always the potential for iTunes match to provide the wrong version of a song and could be content such as movies, podcasts, audiobooks etc. that would have been excluded.

  • What is the best Monitor for Video editing & Graphic Design?

    Hi every one,
I would like to find out what is the best monitor for video editing and graphic design that you recomend, I am trying to buy one but not sure which one is good and not expansive.
    Thanks very much

I don't want 2 monitors, so a single 27inch model just what I need... plenty of room for PPro, or I can have a Word document and a Text file open and side by side
    John,
That is personal taste and there is no discussing taste. However, from my perspective, and that is personal, I prefer 3840 x 1080 resolution with dual monitors over 1920 x 1080 with a single monitor, but that is because I very often have Firefox, Filezilla, Dreamweaver and some other applications open at the same time, switching between the Adobe forums, Gmail accounts, Notebook results from the PPBM5 data submissions, PPBM5 form submissions, MySQL access, phpadmin pages to update the database, the PPBM5 results pages and various DW .php pages for the maintenance of our database and switching back and forth between various versions of PR. I occasionally really run out of real estate with all these applications and could not consider a single monitor with only 1920 x 1080 resolution, even if it were a 105" screen. In the future I would even like to have a four monitor setup (with MPE hardware support) in a two by two configuration, so that I can freely move my application screens around.
If that happens, notice I say if and not when, my preference for a monitor would be something like 4 Samsung F2380 monitors. Small bezel, great display and panel, affordable.

  • What are the best practices for generating an EPS logo from InDesign?

Our costomer is running into technical issues with the logo we sent them, which was exported from Indesign. Images were not embedded and fonts missing. I was able to embed the images and fonts. However, we DO NOT want them to be able to make any text changes. So after exporting an eps, I opened the file in Adobe Illustrator and made all the text outlines. I hope this works. But I just wanted to post the question on what are the best practices for doing this?
The client needs the logo with transparent background, images emebdded and type in outlines. Also, they need some space around the text. When I exported the eps, the file is right up on the edge of the type.

It sounds like you are pretty far from "best practice" with regard to logo design and delivery.
These days, the very use of the EPS format should be considered bad practice, and some other terms in your post, (i.e., 'images,' 'missing fonts'), make it sound like there is not a seasoned logo designer involved.
That said, you probably already got the advice you need to get out of the immediate jam. However, without proper logo design, you and the client will soon be facing other problems. You should be delivering a 100% vector graphic in single-color (black) and corporate-color(s) versions, with no live font data, that has been test-scaled to very small and very large sizes; ensuring it will work at postage-stamp size and on the side of a truck or building, with specific spot color(s) and proportions that will enable it to be offset printed, embroidered and screen-printed on apparel, and cut into signage materials and decals.

  • What's the best Mac for running Final Cut Pro X?

Title says it all. What's the best Mac for running Final Cut Pro X? I'm not looking to make a feature length hollywood film. But I'd like to be able to edit video without lag.

Yes. Begin with the fastest processor / graphics card / and as much RAM as you can afford. (As all three will become obsolete over time.)
I started from scratch. I have a 27-inch iMac with a 3.4 G Intel Core i7. (currently the fastest processor for an iMac) I also ordered the best graphics card--AMD Ratheon HD. I ordered 16G of RAM, but recently added more RAM to equal 24G. (OWC makes good after-market RAM for iMACs.)
Last, I ordered a flash drive / SATA hard drive combo.  (250G on flash / ITB on SATA). The OS and all of my applications run off the flash drive. (for fast start up!)
I put all of my media and FCP projects onto the SATA hard drive.
Now, I had the option to order a 2TB SATA. But, I realized I can always buy more external storage as I edit more and more projects. ALSO! FCPX is GREAT when it comes to editing projects on external drives! I can segregate an entire project and its media files onto a removeable drive. I simply launch FCPX, plug in the drive and--poof!--I'm ready to edit. It sees the project and the media right away. When I'm done editing, I can then send this drive to another editor (also using FCPX) or attach it to my MacBook if I want to edit the same project in the field.
This has worked for me. I wish you luck.

  • What is the best encoder for a quicktime movie into iDVD...?

i seem to be having some issues with picture quality once the DVD is actually made... i do have my preferences set at professional quality, but i think my problem may be with the original source file... what's the best format for that...? H264...? mpeg4...? pro res...?
    thanks

Since you are just researching, I am going to make this as short and sweet as possible.
The 27 inch screen IMac is your only option. You need to have one with the fastest i7 CPU, fastest Graphics processor. Order one with the base 8 GBs of RAM and add additonal RAM through cheaper third party Mac RAM suppliers.
My preference is for the standard ATA 7200 rpm drives as the Fusion-type drives are not proven technology, yet.
If you want a really fast iMac and can afford it, consider an internal or external solid state drive (SSD) as these drives ard very, very fast.
For external drives fast drives are ones that use USB 3, Thunderbolt and/or FireWire 800 connections.
Stay away from external USB 2.0 external hard drives. They aren't fast enough.
You need an adapter adapter for your mini DV camera.
You are going to need some make of separate high speed audio interface box for instruments and vocals.
Look at interface boxes from M-Audio.
And you'll need to budget for a third party, good quality, high speed external FireWire 400/800 CD/DVD optical drive.
Plus, very seriously consider the purchase of extended 3-year AppleCare Warranty plan.
Something will go wrong with an iMac between 1-5 years.
Three years of warranty protection offers free repairs and replacement of you have hardware failures.
    Good Hunting!

  • What is the best solution for running windows based programs

I have one program that I need windows for.  What is the best solution for doing this without painfully slowing down my mac.

    Depends on your needs.
BootCamp requires reboot and uses all physical resources of the system.  Only OSX *or* Windows can run.  Better for gaming or memory intensive tasks.  BootCampAssistant must set up the boot sector to make it work.  Also BCA required to remove it.
VM (virtual machine) like Parallels which "hosts" Windows while still running OSX.  You split RAM between the two environments.  VM is just another program so no special boot sector changes needed, but not good for graphics or RAM intensive programs.
Other recommended alternates to Parallels (paid) are VM Fusion (paid) and VirtualBox (free download from Oracle.com).

  • What is the best product for keeping a mac pro running fast?

What is the best product for keeping my mac pro running at optimal speed?

Enough RAM. More than just so there are no pageouts.
A fast small SSD for boot system drive that is only OS and apps and 50% free
Backup clones of your system and data plus TimeMachine
Avoid security suites from 3rd parties and other would be helpers (unless instructed to for a specific need and purpose).
Replace and update older components. could be graphic card, no longer suffices wtih Lion, or causes heat and dust. And make sure that the fans cool the system properly. May need to boost the low default fan speed profile and that is one utility that can be a must. Also monitor system temp readings.
Don't jusst idly restart after a crash or freeze, use Lion Recovery Mode and Safe Boot instead.
Make backup clone before making updates and changes to your system.

  • What are the best practies for naming symbols (spaces OK,etc.)?

What are the best practices for symbol naming for ease, flexibility, & to avoid "gatchas" down the road?
Does it make any difference if one includes spaces in the names of symbols?  Are there any widely followed conventions for naming them like using camelCase or underscores?
    Thanks!

    Hi Gina D 3333,
Best-practice file-naming conventions for PDF files are the same as for any other file. I found this article on Apple's website that contains some useful pointers to consider when you're naming files that will be used on multiple platforms: OS X: Cross-platform filename best practices and conventions
    I hope this helps!

  • What is the best practice for changing view states?

I have a component with two Pie Charts that display
percentages at two specific dates (think start and end values).
But, I have three views: Start Value only, End Value only, or show
Both. I am using a ToggleButtonBar to control the display. What is
the best practice for changing this kind of view state? Right now
(since this code was inherited), the view states are changed in an
ActionScript function which sets the visible and includeInLayout
properties on each Pie Chart based on the selectedIndex of the
ToggleButtonBar, but, this just doesn't seem like the best way to
do this - not very dynamic. I'd like to be able to change the state
based on the name of the selectedItem, in case the order of the
ToggleButtons changes, and since I am storing the name of the
    selectedItem for future reference.
Would using States be better? If so, what would be the best
    way to implement this?
    Thanks.

I would stick with non-states, as I have always heard that
states are more for smaller components that need to change under
certain conditions, like a login screen that changes if the user
    needs to register.
That said, if the UI of what you are dealing with is not
overly complex, and if it will not become overly complex, maybe
states is the way to go.
Looking at your code, I don't think you'll save much in terms
    of lines of code.
