What is the best Logitech (or other) camera to buy for use with 10.3.9?

I have heard that both Gearhead and Rocketfish have many issues. I read that Logitech cameras, various ones, work with either 10.2 and under or 10.4.9 and over. The Isight prices on ebay or very high. Calls to both Logitech and Apple leave me disconcerted with there cryptic answers. Officially, it seems that Logitech has no camera that works with 10.3.9 but I have read that it has been done. I don't need all the bells and whistles that a new model Logitech camera provides and I know I won't get those on the MaC, however, I would like a good pictre and Skype compatibility. I know I can get iChatUSB and Macam drivers with some cameras. Can I do all that on 10.3.9? Is there another, different company that makes good cameras I can use with 10.3.9? A call to Creative Labs brought me a "no" when I asked him if any of their cams were 10.3.9 compatible but I question if he was right.
I know there has to be many of you out there with this issue - no Isight, but using Panther with a really good after market camera and really satisfied with the results...what did you do?
Please help me and tell me what my best option is....upgrading seems very expensive as well.

I use iSight, but if you do not get better answers here, I offer the following for your consideration.
If you have a Mac compatible, Firewire connected DV camcorder, it will work for your video chats. If not, take your portable Mac with you when you go shopping, and ask to try any camera of interest with your computer and software before you buy. That way you will KNOW you have one that works for you with the apps you want to use.
Unless your 10.3.9 laptop has a G3 processor whose speed is less than 600 Mhz, it can give you a good picture and Skype compatibility if your system meets the other system requirements for all the apps you plan to use. Any camera's video frame rates will be noticeably slow if your laptop is a sub-600 Mhz G3.
If multi-party video chat or screen sharing are not important to you, there is no need to upgrade to later versions Mac OS X and iChat. The latest version of Skype is compatible with 10.3.9 and later, so there is no Skype impact on your upgrade decision.
You are correct that you will need iChatUSBCam and drivers to send iChat video from your 10.3.9 Laptop. (Your laptop system will also need to meet the other System Requirements for iChat AV 2.1 that are not obviated by using iChatUSBCam.
Although other USB cams may work, you can use iChatUSBCam's camera guide page to find a list of USB cameras that are Known Working Configurations. Any of them should be compatible with Skype, but check the camera's compatibility info before you buy to be sure it claims to work with Skype. If it works with Skype for Windows, it will work with Skype for Mac.

What is the best way to organize LabVIEW VIs to be used with TestStand?

I'm using LabVIEW 8.6 with TestStand 4.1.1 and I'm trying to organize the VIs to later deploy them to a production PC. So, I organized them into a LV project and built a LLB with the "Source Distribution Tool". (Destination type: LLB)
Some VIs in the LLB use the "Call Library Function" (user32.dll) to simulate keyboard events. But, when any of these VIs is called from TS, LabVIEW is suddenly terminated. When these same VIs are not in the LLB and are called from TS they do not have any problem.
Is the LLB the best way to organize VIs to be used with TestStand? If so, What could I be doing wrong?

I really appreciate your intention to help, but I believe I solved the problem already. However I still have some questions.
The problem was that when I built the LLB the configuration of the "Call Library Function" changed. When the LLB is built it is also created a Support Directory named "data" that contains some dependencies including a new copy of the user32.dll. The "Library name or path" field in the "Call Library Function" changed to be linked to a new Dependency Path. ( ...\data\user32.dll.)
What I did was select "Specify path on diagram" and create a path-constant ("C:\WINDOWS\system32\user32.dll"), so the "Call Library Function" will be always linked to the original user32.dll.
I still don't know why the "Call Library Function doesn't work with the user32.dll copy in the New Dependency Path. And I'm not sure if the LLB is the best way to organize VIs to be used with TestStand.
Do you know why?

If you are running 10.6.8 then you must have bought it 3-4 yrs ago?
Might want to check the specs and then look at various programs and their requirements as to whether Final Cut Express and ah, you want to import media to an app, not "upload."

I would like to know what is the best portable usb 3.0 external HDD for recording my music on.
Because since today i am a very happy new owner of the new Retina Macbook Pro 2.3 GHz, with 8 GB of Ram and 256 GB of Flash.
.... and yes it has the Samsung Retina Display
Since 8 years i use Logic Pro and because the flash is only 256 Gb i want to record on a external drive
and not on the internal storage (and especially now with usb 3.0).
But i would like to know what is the best portible external HDD for this function.
500 GB is enough for me because i have 2x a 2 TB for my Mac Pro and Macbook pro where i make back ups from all my music (2 back ups just to be safe).

Make sure the external drive is 7200rpm.... and not 5400rpm or a 'green' drive with something called "varipower' or a similar name...

I agree with teh OWC sggestion above, but why must it be USB powered? I find that far more unreliable, and the low power devices slow.
I'd frankly get a good external enclosure and buy a bare drive. But the OWC stuff is quite good - vastly better than some of the majors (WD being aprime example of stuff that's boderline quality and often not compatible)

Well it seems that you did not explain to us the full story. Did you change ISP's or something? Why would it not show up anymore?
What colour is the light on the time-capsule? If it's blinking amber, then you probably need to do a factory-reset. That should get it to show up again in AirPort Utility.

I have several AVI movies I took and want to import them into iMovie, so I can create a DVD that will play in any DVD player or computer. (Along with a bunch of pictures.)
Should I convert them with QuickTime Pro 7 (QTP7) to another format, and if so, what is the best export setting.
I have export them using *_QuickTime 10_* and QTP7 to *MOV, MP4, & M4V* and the output is *+bad bad bad+*.
I have tried both export and save-as. Neither has done a good job.
The internal information of the AVI movies are: (as reported by QT)
Format: Apple OpenDML JPEG, 640 x 480, Millions, 8-bit Unsigned Integer, Mono, 11.024 kHz

That depends on your specific work flow and the codec(s) involved. Generally speaking, if the file plays in the QT Player and is "conversion" compatible, then the file can be added directly to iDVD (i.e., unlike iMovie '08/'09/'11 which requires the file to be "edit" compatible with QT).

The quality of your output file will depend on a number of things: primarily the quality of your source file, the efficiency of the target codec, and the specific settings used. (About which you did not elaborate.) The rule of thumb here is that your output will never be better than your input and each re-comprssion of the data has the potential to degrade the quality to some degree.
I have tried both export and save-as. Neither has done a good job.
The "Export" option re-compresses the data while the "Save As..." option only places the original data in an MOV file container. So if this output is "bad, bad, bad," then I suspect your source file(s) are not of high quality to begin with. (This seems to be confirmed by the very low audio sampling rate which implies the video data rate was probably also low to conserve file storage space.)

The basic codecs here appear to be both playback and conversion compatitible with QT (other than the very low sampling rate which some QT apps may not like). Thus, if your work flow is to simply burn DVDs that can be played on commercial players, the AVI could most likely be dropped to iDVD for authoring. On the other hand, if you are editing in a recent version of iMovie, then that app may not like the AVI file container. In this case, the best quality you can likely expect would be to use the "Save As..." option to place the data in an MOV file container and import to iMovie.
Unfortunately, editing in iMovie '08/'09/'11 is done "by reference" which means your output file will be created by exporting the impoted source data to another compression format. The default would be H.264/AAC which is a highly compressed format which in turn would be re-compressed again by iDVD to multiplexed MPEG2/PCM content further reducing quality by using a less efficient video codec. My recommendation for export from iMovie in this case would be AIC/Linear PCM. (I.e., to export your edits to the Apple intermediat video codec using the original file size and frame rate with just a bit of "sharpening" and using 16-bit/48 kHz Linear PCM audio (which is what will be used to create the DVD).

Yes. Simply create a new SD project, select your theme, drop the compatible AVI content to the appropriate "drop" area(s), add photos as desired, preview the results, and author the DVD if/when satisfied.

What are the best storage systems to archive inactive (but still used) apps and files of all types? I already have a Time Casule which I back up on and I'm needing to create more space in my flash drive in my Mac Pro, so I need another external storage system I can use to archive all that I don't currently need. I may still wish to edit and use the files, and I am not very techy and am a broke student... so anything grossly expensive is a no-no for me (between $50 and $200 is idyllic). Buy two external drives. Use one for Time Machine. Be sure this drive is at least twice the capacity of your computer's hard drive. Use the second drive as a bootable clone of your computer's hard drive. Should something happen you can immediately get the computer up and running from the clone until your restore from the Time Machine backup. This is what is called redundancy. Should either backup drive fail, there's another to take its place. Backup redundancy is very important. You can never have too many backups.

Any Mac that can happily run OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and Logic Pro 9.1.5.....
Note: Newer Macs cannot run Snow Leopard because SL doesn't provide hardware support for the newer hardware found in these newer Macs....
Next best combo for newer Macs is Mavericks 10.9.5 and Logic Pro 9.1.8... but it is nowhere near as efficient a combo as the previous one mentioned...
