What is the best ram to get for my imac i7 retina?

Specifically I will go to crucial and I want to buy another 16gb of RAM to sit by my current 8,
Which should I choose as there a few options? I have a iMac i& 4ghz Retina.
Thanks for your help guys!

Reliable vendors include Crucial, DataMem, or OWC. I don't understand your second question since Crucial only sells their own branded product. They have an online tool you use to identify the proper RAM for your model. Your model uses:
Maximum Memory
32 GB
Memory Slots
4 - 204-pin PC3-12800 (1600 MHz) DDR3 SO-DIMM

Download from where into what? What are you going to do with the photos?
I agree with Larry that a Mac with an SSD boot drive and addtional standard drive is blazingly fast. I have an iMac setup that way and it boots in 14 seconds. With the system and applicaitons and iPhoto library on the SSD drive and most other documents, backup photos, etc. on the std. drive. it works beautifully. However, I do not let the free space on the SSD drive get less than 50 GB.
I also have an external HD that I sue with Time Maching to backup both my SSD and standard drive in the iMac.

• What is the best time to set for my iMac intel to get to sleep?

what is the best time to set for my iMac intel to get to sleep? the default is 10 minutes, i am changing it to 1 houirs but i put the sleep time for my monitod 10 minutes. is it decent?

but if it MUST run 24x7, then likely one has budgeted for a new system
within 3 years anyway.
Not so sure of that "just plain logic." Allowing sleep too often will cause wear on the drive -- excessive spin up and spin down. Temperature permitting, a drive will last longer if just left running.
For other hardware, a lot will have to do with the internal temps. When it's quite hot here, I allow the computer to sleep more often. But otherwise, it's a bit of this and a bit of that. I wouldn't personally recommend running 24/7, although I know of several here who claim they do, with no apparent adverse effects over many years.

• What is the best tune up app for my imac?

what is the best tune up app for my imac?
also, I am hesitant to upgrade to Maverick. Is there a list of applications that will not run on Maverick that upgrades will need to be purchased?

Here are some general tips to keep your Mac's hard drive trim and slim as possible
You should never, EVER let a conputer hard drive get completely full, EVER!
With Macs and OS X, you shouldn't let the hard drive get below 15 GBs or less of free data space.
If it does, it's time for some hard drive housecleaning.
Follow some of my tips for cleaning out, deleting and archiving data from your Mac's internal hard drive.
Have you emptied your Mac's Trash icon in the Dock?
If you use iPhoto, iPhoto has its own trash that needs to be emptied, also.
If you store images in other locations other than iPhoto, then you will have to weed through these to determine what to archive and what to delete.
If you use Apple Mail app, Apple Mail also has its own trash area that needs to be emptied, too!
Delete any old or no longer needed emails and/or archive to disc, flash drives or external hard drive, older emails you want to save.
Look through your other Mailboxes and other Mail categories to see If there is other mail you can archive and/or delete.
STAY AWAY FROM DELETING ANY FILES FROM OS X SYSTEM FOLDER!
Look through your Documents folder and delete any type of old useless type files like "Read Me" type files.
Again, archive to disc, flash drives, ext. hard drives or delete any old documents you no longer use or immediately need.
Look in your Applications folder, if you have applications you haven't used in a long time, if the app doesn't have a dedicated uninstaller, then you can simply drag it into the OS X Trash icon. IF the application has an uninstaller app, then use it to completely delete the app from your Mac.
To find other large files, download an app called Omni Disk Sweeper.
Download an app called OnyX for your version of OS X.
When you install and launch it, let it do its initial automatic tests, then go to the cleaning and maintenance tabs and run the maintenance tabs that let OnyX clean out all web browser cache files, web browser histories, system cache files, delete old error log files.
Typically, iTunes and iPhoto libraries are the biggest users of HD space.
move these files/data off of your internal drive to the external hard drive and deleted off of the internal hard drive.
If you have any other large folders of personal data or projects, these should be archived or moved, also, to the optical discs, flash drives or external hard drive and then either archived to disc and/or deleted off your internal hard drive.
Good Luck!

• What is the best iPad to get for elders/old people?

Hello.
What is the best iPad model to get for old people/elders who are over 60 years old? I assume iPads' iOS can do DPI to adjust sizes for bigger
visuals. Also, it needs to work well with both English and Chinese
Thank you in advance.

All iPads can read and write Chinese and can also have Chinese user interface. They can even accept Chinese handwriting input. Plus Chinese SIRI, Dictation, and Dictionaries. See

• What is the best case to get for my new Macbook Pro

• What is the best version of Safari for an iMac G5 with Tiger?

I upgraded an iMac G5 to Tiger. Safari crashes often and does not support many new web sites, particularly those requiring Flash. Any suggestions? I have tried Opera and Camino both of which have problems when Flash is required.

The final version of Safari for Tiger was 4.1.3.
Safari 4.1.3 for Tiger can be downloaded here:
http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1069
As regards Flash:
You can check here what version of Flash player you actually have installed: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/155/tn_15507.html
You can check here: http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/about/ to see which version you should install for your Mac and OS. Note that version 10,1,102,64 is the last version available to PPC Mac users*. The latest version, 10.2.152.25, 10.3.x beta, or later, is for Intel Macs only, as Adobe no longer support the PPC platform. Version 11.0.1.152 is for Lion.
* Unhelpfully, if you want the last version for PPC Macs, you need to go here: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/142/tn_14266.html and scroll down to 'Archived Versions/Older Archives'. Flash Player 10.1.102.64 is the one you download. More information here: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/838/cpsid_83808.html
You should first uninstall any previous version of Flash Player, using the uninstaller from here (make sure you use the correct one!):
http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/909/cpsid_90906.html
and also that you follow the instructions closely, such as closing ALL applications first before installing. You must also carry out a permission repair after installing anything from Adobe.
(If you are running a PPC Mac with Flash Player 10.1.102.64 and are having problems with watching videos on FaceBook or other sites, contributor Texas Mac Man suggests the following solution which fools the site into thinking that you are running the latest version:)
Download this http://www.steelbin.com/FPforFBPPC.zip to your desktop, unzip it, and replace the current Flash Player plug-in which is in your main/Library/Internet Plug-Ins folder, (not the user Library). Save the old one just in case this one doesn't work.

• What's the best MacBook to get for dual boot (SL & Lion)

I want to get a MacBook pro i7 13" that I can set up with both a Snow Leopard & a Lion boot partition so I can test apps on both. (Plus maybe add a bootcamp partition).
Can I just buy a new machine with Lion and be able to repartition and add Snow Leopard, or should I look for a previous generation one. (I'd like to configure it with an SSID and max out the RAM. I also want to be able to hook up an external monitor to it).
Are there any "gotchas" I need to worry about.
Thx
Frank

If you create a Boot Camp partition, then you can only have it and the OS X partition. You cannot add a third partition. If you do then Boot Camp can no longer restore your disk if needed.
Not all of the newest Macs are able to run Snow Leopard or require a version of Snow Leopard that is not publicly available.
You can find out all the rest by just going to the Apple Store and examining the technical specs for each model.

• What's the best Mac to get for college?

My daughter is getting ready to attend college in the fall and I would like to get her a MAC. Which one do you recommend and why?

She'll certainly want something portable and while the MacBook Air is the lightest, I would be more prone to suggest a slightly heavier (but not too hefty!) entry-level MacBook Pro. If she needs to run Windows apps, she can, and there are a number of applications that are cross-platform (the ubiquitus MicroSoft Office for example).

• What is the best computer to get for editing?

I currently use Avid Xpress Pro on an iMac G5. I can't run FCP on it because it doesn't have an Intel Processor. So, I want to get a new computer and was thinking of either getting a 17" MacBook Pro and connect it to an external monitor, or a Mac Pro. Any suggestions? Are there any limitations to getting a MacBook Pro to run Final Cut Studio? I'll mostly be using FCP and DVD Studio Pro.

Either will work.
What formats do you need to edit? What's your output?

• What's the best sleeve to get for my X230?

I'm wondering since I'm going around Amazon, I live in the UK. But college is coming up and my X230 needs smaller but still decent protection. Carrying two bags will become a chore.
Which should I go for? I'd like something strong, but snuggly fit and it won't damage the system itself. Hoping that the build isn't so horrible.

• What is the best case to get for the iPhone 4S?

For a black 16gb on sprint

After looking around at many brick and mortars and online stores, I settled on a Sena Hampton Flip in tan leather. Looks GREAT with the white 4S. I'm really happy with the purchase but can think of a couple minor modifications I'd like to see they incorporate into the case to make it work even better.

• What's the best anti-virus program for my iMac?

Any help is appreciated.

ClamXav 2.2.5. But if you are concerned about the recent malware issues then see:
Helpful Links Regarding Flashback Trojan
Visit Thomas Reed's site for insight and help: Mac Malware Guide
A Google search can reveal a variety of alternatives on how the remove the trojan should your computer get infected. This can get you started. However, be careful about what you do as new variants of the malware circumvent the efforts of earlier tools.
Also see Apple's article About Flashback malware.
Apple has released Java updates for Snow Leopard and Lion users:
Java for OS X Lion 2012-003; available only for users of Lion with Java installed.
Java for Mac OS X 10.6 Update 8; available only for users of Snow Leopard.
Flashback malware removal tool; available only for users of Lion without Java installed.
Install whichever shows up in Software Update. It removes the malware (if present), updates Java (if present) and tightens up Java settings for the future. You may download from Apple's web site instead of using Software Update, but it's important to know which one to get, because the other two won't work for you.
