What is the Best UK Hotspot Provider for using with the ipod Touch ?

Just ordered my new ipod touch and can't wait to start using it. I just wondered whether anybody here in the UK had done any research regarding what Hotspot Provider to sign up with? I know there is the BT Openzone option or possibly a new company called 'The Cloud' that looks OK ... then there is the 'pay as you go' option or monthly contract choice to make? I know my ultimate choice might depend on what usuage I want or where I am most likely to want wifi? But any comments, observations or user experiences would be welcome.

The Cloud have an account specifically for iPod Touch users. I haven't set anything up on mine as I use my mobile for surfing when out and about - but I do check to see if there's free wi fi available before I use the mobile.

Follow these steps to use your iPhone without a wireless service plan:

I am looking at purchasing a macbook air 13". What is a good external hard drive to use with it? Should I look for an external hard drive with its own a/c power or is the usb 3.0 capable of powering the external drive.

It is however, much better to get a USB external drive that comes with it's own power adapter to avoid issues when or if your USB port can't supply enough power to your external drive.
That issue however does happen rarely but it does happen. Especially when connecting other devices to your other USB port while your external hard drive is connected to your other usb port.

Conver videos for use with my iPod 30g.

Quicktime, Quicktime Pro and iTunes don't convert "muxed" ( muxed means multiplexed where the audio and video are stored on the same track) video files properly. It only plays the video and not the audio.

You need a 3rd party converter to convert the file with both audio and video.

USB Power Adapter for use on both iPod Touch and Mini?

Will the Apple USB Power Adapter that charges the iPod Touch also charge my iPod Mini? The Mini is not listed specifically in the compatibility chart. 1st and 2nd generation iPods are listed as compatible. Would the Mini be considered one of these? Just wanted to check before ordering the charger.

It's fine. Any adapter that is 5.0 or 5.1V DC at 0.5 to 2A (500 to 2000ma) will work.

What's the Best Open Source DB for use with Kodo?

running with Kodo, what is the best open source database to use? I'm use to using Oracle and
SQLPlus. I need to use an open source DB for a learning environment, and I'd like your informed
opinion.

I have been using postgresql 7.1 with Kodo for a while with mostly positive results, and currently
have it deployed with Kodo 2.2.3. I prefer it to mysql because its feature set is a little richer,
and supports transactions natively. My experience with mysql (without jdo - I haven't tried it with)
is good, but there were little things missing in mysql 3.x, e.g. the ability do do a join in a
DELETE statement.
BTW, there are some severe problems somewhere in the 2.2.4 release with postgresql if you intend to
eventually deploy on it. It also apparently has some problems invoking postgresql's indices, making
it a little less than optimal. But as a learning environment, it's what I'd recommend.

What is the iPod Touch's network hostname?

I need to enter my iPod Touch's MAC Address and Hostname in my school account so I can use the school's wireless network. I found the MAC Address but what's the hostname? I would just connect it to a wireless network and look at it that way but I don't have a router and the only wireless network here is the free network provided by the apartment complex I live at and they block computers from seeing each other on the network.

the touch doesnt have its own
you should be able to connect to it by just going to wifi settings on the touch and then it should pop up when ur in school

I was just wondering, cause i just downloaded the ios 6 for ipod touch 4th generation. It said before i downloaded that ios 6 came with siri and some other features. No, the 4th generation does not support Siri unfortunatly. You can find a list of iOS features here: Apple - iOS 6 - iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch get 200+ new features.
Notice the fine printed foot notes that state that only the 5th generation iPod Touch will be able to have Siri, among other notes.

They don't. They are called rumors. Apple has said nothing about a new iPod touch, but its very likely there will be a new iPod touch since the last model was released 2 years ago.
But other than that, we are not allowed to speculate on Apple's decisions or possibility of new products here.

You can plug the iPod into the same iTunes library as your iPod Touch and sync whatever content you like to it. There is no limilt to the number of iPads, iPhones, or iPods you can sync with one iTunes library, account, or computer. How you sync one device will not affect the syncing preferences of the other.
