What is the best upgrade can I get??

When I bought my iBook I initially installed OS X 10.3.4. I was then given an upgrade CD a year or so later as part of a deal to buy my partner an iBook. I have since lost the upgrade CD but still have the original startup disk, which I have recently had to use to do an erase and restore after a problem.
As my computer still works fine, I want to upgrade the OS.
I am aware that I cannot get Snow Leopard because it uses Intel and obviously my iBook isn't as fast as modern Macs, but what is the most up-to-date OS I can get?
Also, does anyone know where I can get this upgrade?

Will:
Unfortunately your profile does not give us specific information about your computer which would help us better advise you. If it shipped OS X 10.3.4 installed it is likely the Early 2004 model with a 1.0 GHz or 1.2 GHz processor. If your computer meets the other Leopard installation system requirements you can install Leopard Mac OS X 10.5.8.
Note that Leopard requires 9 GB of disk capacity for installation. In addition you should have a minimum of 15% of your total disk capacity as contiguous free space to avoid directory corruption. Besides, the HDD in your computer, if it is the original with which it shipped, is getting old and liable to failure without notice as the average life of an internal HDD is approximately 3 to 5 years. A newer, larger capacity HDD is advisable.
I would also suggest maxxing out your RAM to 1.25 GB by adding a 1 GB module in the user serviceable slot.
Please do post back with further questions or comments.

To upgrade to Yosemite you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Download Yosemite from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Yosemite is free. The file is quite large, over 5 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.

    Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mavericks, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion at the Online Apple Store. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. Just Purchased a MacBook Pro.  What it the best Adobe product to get to be able to view PDFs?

Yes, Mountain Lion has a convoluted method to do a "Save as", but try this. Open the applicable PDF, from the "File" menu select "Duplicate". This will create a copy of the PDF file and highlight the name at the top of the page. Here you can type in a new name, and a gain from the "File" menu select "Move To" or "Save" to save the resultant, newly named PDF.

Absolutely. I put a Samsung 840 in my early 2009 white macbook and it is the best computer upgrade I've ever done. I've also put an OWC SSD in my late 2009 iMac and highly recommend their drives. http://eshop.macsales.com

  • What is the best upgrade for the new Air?

I am looking for a new Macbook Air for college and was wondering what upgrade would be the smartest decision. I was thinking of a 13" air with:
1.7GHz Dual-Core Intel Core i7, Turbo Boost up to 3.3GHz
    8GB 1600MHz LPDDR3 SDRAM
    128GB PCIe-based Flash Storage
    or a 13" Air with:
    1.4GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 processor
    Turbo Boost up to 2.7GHz
    8 GB memory
    256GB PCIe-based flash storage1
The former option would save me approximately $60. What are the benefits of an upgraded processor? I have heard they would make my computer overheat more easily and the fan would be significantly louder. This is making me question if the processor is worth it. In addition, I am unsure of how beneficial the 8GB as opposed to 4GB of RAM would be. How can I optimize the speed of my laptop if I want to run Windows through Parallels? That is essential.
    Please advise, Thanks.

If you buy a 2013 model you can save up to $400+ from online resellers who are clearing out the "old" model.
However the "old" model is nearly 100% identical in performance .
to answer your question, unless you plan on gaming or video editing, get the I5 with 8GB of RAM with 256 SSD

  • What is the best upgrade to MBP 13" 2010

    What's up!
I going to the USA (miami in fact..) and i was wondering if some shopping to upgrade my MacBook Pro C2D 2.4, 4GB would be nice... i already have upgraded the hard disk to a 7200 RPM Seagate with 320GB
I was thinking in two things.... but i wanted to know if there is going to be a real difference. i'm looking to spend 100 USD on the upgrade...
One: A seagate momentus XT 500GB hard drive
Two: An Corsair 8GB DDR3 memory kit
I'm a light user... the most demanding software that i use is Valve's Counter Strike
On AJA test software, my HD gave me 71,2 MB/s on it's tests
    Other sugestions are really welcome!
    Thanks from Brazil!

My question is, there is going to be a real difference on the performance, load times, boot up?
Remembering that i'm a light user...
There are many variables, so no one can say for sure. That said, one way to get an idea whether more RAM will help or not, is to check Page outs and Swap used. First, use your Mac as you normally would, the longer the better (checking this right after starting up isn’t likely to show you anything). After you’ve used your Mac for awhile (again, the longer the better), go to Applications > Utilities > open ActivityMonitor > in the top menu at right, select All Processes in the drop down menu > near the bottom of the window click on System Memory. If Page outs is more that about 10% of Page ins, and/or Swap used is large, chances are good that adding RAM will help.

  • What is the best upgrade path from LiveCycle Designer 8.0?

Back in June 2010, I developed a website for a client which included some interactive forms created with LiveCycle Designer 8.0 (came with Adobe CS3.) He recently brought to my attention the fact that the data filled in by his customers on the forms does not display in PDF docs on his iPhone or Android smartphone (the PDFs and filled-in data display fine via desktop browsers.) Can anyone suggest the best (least expensive, least painful... I don't want to rewrite his site in HTML5) solution? E.g., upgrade my LiveCycle Designer 8.0 version and reinstall the forms on his site? Would that be to Acrobat X Pro? Does a second set of forms need to be created for mobile format? Suggestions would be appreciated. Here is his web page with links to the existing 3 forms. Thanks. -Bob C.

Thanks for your feedback. I appreciate it. Since my post, I noticed that Adobe offers free apps for iOS and android devices "to view and work with PDF files." Called: Adobe Reader X for mobile. Any idea whether these apps would resolve the issue described above? (Filled-in data on forms created on desktops not displaying on mobile devices?) Unfortunately, I don't have an android device to test with and my iPhone hardware is not current enough to load the ios app. -Thank you.

I try to buy the full CC, an offer for the first year. But it says I have to contact support to validate that I'm entitled to the offer. (I just got the CC photography and realized I should have bought the whole thing..)

  • I have a hp dv7-1020us. Can I upgrade the CPU and if I can what is the best I can obtain?

Just recently my hp dv7-1020us CPU performance has drastically been reduced to the extent that it runs at 75 to 100% capacity all the time. It is very noticable when accessing the internet. At times my screens take up to 60-seconds to change/refresh. I see "not responding" on most web pages accessed.
I had heard that possibly a CPU upgrade would correct the issue. What I have done most recently is upgrade the memory to 8gb, installed W7 Home and also downloaded IE9. The performance issue was noticed before I made all those changes. I have two hard drives installed, both are less than 50%. I have contacted the cable company about my cable router and they have remotely tested without any issues. I have also been runing daily virus scans to see if a virus has possibly infiltrated my system. I even re-installed my previous wireless router and there was no remarkable change.
If anyone has any ideas or solutions please let me know. I am actually looking at another computer, the dm4-3090se as a fix but don't really want to spend the money. I also have a small Asus netbook with 2gb's of memory that runs faster than my hp. My phone even accesses web sites faster. Again, if anyone has any ideas please share!

    Hi:
If you are interested in upgrading the processor (which may help only a little--depending on what processor you currently have), below is the link to the service manual.
    http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01918142.pdf
Supported processors are listed in chapter 1, page 1.
Normally when my PC's begin to get real bogged down and I have maxed out the memory as you have, I back up my files and reinstall the operating system, and get a fresh clean start.

  • What is the best notebook stand to get?

I have been using this flimsy plastic Porta Book notebook stand for about a year - and today it finally broke.
    http://www.portabooklaptop.com/
I'm looking for another computer stand to replace it - hopefully another one similar to what i had (but hopefully better made). I always had papers and stuff under it.
So then i found the iLap, a little pricy - but it looks decent.
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/TK790ZM/A?mco=MTY3ODQ5OTY
Does anyone have any experience with the iLap? Is it safe to stuff in a backpack without getting bent and messed up? Or is there any other suggestions to a decent stand that won't break on me? Thanks

I like this one. Works well. Fan can seem a bit noisy at first, but I got used to it.
