What is the best upgrade path from LiveCycle Designer 8.0?

Back in June 2010, I developed a website for a client which included some interactive forms created with LiveCycle Designer 8.0 (came with Adobe CS3.) He recently brought to my attention the fact that the data filled in by his customers on the forms does not display in PDF docs on his iPhone or Android smartphone (the PDFs and filled-in data display fine via desktop browsers.) Can anyone suggest the best (least expensive, least painful... I don't want to rewrite his site in HTML5) solution? E.g., upgrade my LiveCycle Designer 8.0 version and reinstall the forms on his site? Would that be to Acrobat X Pro? Does a second set of forms need to be created for mobile format? Thanks for your feedback. I appreciate it. Since my post, I noticed that Adobe offers free apps for iOS and android devices "to view and work with PDF files." Called: Adobe Reader X for mobile. Any idea whether these apps would resolve the issue described above? (Filled-in data on forms created on desktops not displaying on mobile devices?) Unfortunately, I don't have an android device to test with and my iPhone hardware is not current enough to load the ios app. -Thank you.

I have a Power PC dual 2 gig G5 running OS X 10.4.10. I know at some point that Leopard will not support the power PC platform, but I also know I probably will have one more upgrade path before my computer is no longer supported. I have not upgraded because My machine runs perfect. But I also know that a lot of my software will not run when I upgrade. Pro Tools, Maya,Mocha, various plug ins for Pro Tools. What is the best export setting from QuickTime Pro 7 for standard DVD

I have several AVI movies I took and want to import them into iMovie, so I can create a DVD that will play in any DVD player or computer. (Along with a bunch of pictures.)
Should I convert them with QuickTime Pro 7 (QTP7) to another format, and if so, what is the best export setting.
I have export them using *_QuickTime 10_* and QTP7 to *MOV, MP4, & M4V* and the output is *+bad bad bad+*.
I have tried both export and save-as. Neither has done a good job.
The internal information of the AVI movies are: (as reported by QT)
Format: Apple OpenDML JPEG, 640 x 480, Millions, 8-bit Unsigned Integer, Mono, 11.024 kHz

That depends on your specific work flow and the codec(s) involved. Generally speaking, if the file plays in the QT Player and is "conversion" compatible, then the file can be added directly to iDVD (i.e., unlike iMovie '08/'09/'11 which requires the file to be "edit" compatible with QT).

The quality of your output file will depend on a number of things: primarily the quality of your source file, the efficiency of the target codec, and the specific settings used. (About which you did not elaborate.) The rule of thumb here is that your output will never be better than your input and each re-comprssion of the data has the potential to degrade the quality to some degree.
I have tried both export and save-as. Neither has done a good job.
The "Export" option re-compresses the data while the "Save As..." option only places the original data in an MOV file container. So if this output is "bad, bad, bad," then I suspect your source file(s) are not of high quality to begin with. (This seems to be confirmed by the very low audio sampling rate which implies the video data rate was probably also low to conserve file storage space.)
The internal information of the AVI movies are: (as reported by QT)... Format: Apple OpenDML JPEG, 640 x 480, Millions, 8-bit Unsigned Integer, Mono, 11.024 kHz
The basic codecs here appear to be both playback and conversion compatitible with QT (other than the very low sampling rate which some QT apps may not like). Thus, if your work flow is to simply burn DVDs that can be played on commercial players, the AVI could most likely be dropped to iDVD for authoring. On the other hand, if you are editing in a recent version of iMovie, then that app may not like the AVI file container. In this case, the best quality you can likely expect would be to use the "Save As..." option to place the data in an MOV file container and import to iMovie.
Unfortunately, editing in iMovie '08/'09/'11 is done "by reference" which means your output file will be created by exporting the impoted source data to another compression format. The default would be H.264/AAC which is a highly compressed format which in turn would be re-compressed again by iDVD to multiplexed MPEG2/PCM content further reducing quality by using a less efficient video codec. My recommendation for export from iMovie in this case would be AIC/Linear PCM. (I.e., to export your edits to the Apple intermediat video codec using the original file size and frame rate with just a bit of "sharpening" and using 16-bit/48 kHz Linear PCM audio (which is what will be used to create the DVD).

Yes. Simply create a new SD project, select your theme, drop the compatible AVI content to the appropriate "drop" area(s), add photos as desired, preview the results, and author the DVD if/when satisfied.

I must connect an ADVC 300 to a Black Magic Intensity Pro HDMI PCI Express Capture Card. For best quality, which cable should I use?
On the ADVC 300 there are outputs of firewire, S-VHS and RCA.
On BMPro it's a little confusing. On the breakout cable there are connectors that say:

With the BMPro, there is also a separate, shorter cable. On one end it looks like S-VHS and on the other there are two connectors, one black and one blue.

Well, when I researched how best to digitize VHS (into Final Cut Pro 7), I learned two of the best devices to use are BMPro and Canopus ADVC 300. I’m using the ADVC 300 for the built-in time base corrector. I definitely want to use that to stabilize the video. I also read how well BMPro improves image quality. So, I thought to use the two together must produce outstanding quality (well, as good as VHS can be).
Perhaps I got confused into thinking I can use both. But the BMPro appears to have an S-VHS adapter.
I guess I’m wondering what is better quality:
Run the firewire from the Canopus ADVC 300 converter directly into the firewire port on the Mac Pro
Or, run an S-VHS cable from the Canopus ADVC 300 into the BMPro Capture card
(I should mention that I have purchased all these items and already have the BMPro Card installed so at this point it’s not a cost issue, but rather an issue of simply which works best?)

Hello- question from an illustrator to flash workflow n00b.
I'm creating a flash experience with animated characters.
I'm building my art assets in illustrator.
I've found it relatively easy & straightforward to import assets from illustrator into flash.
I can conveniently import my layers and symbols from illustrator as separate layers and symbols in flash and manipulate them.
However, let's say after import I want to change something with an asset using illustrator. For example, I have a character with facial features, including eyes. I want to change the eyes in illustrator and have those changes then be propogated in some way- automagically or manually- in flash.
What is the right way to do this? Are there best practices for being able to go back and forth between flash and illustrator?

I guess the answer to my question is that there is no good way. In the photoshop/illustrator workflow, I can paste a document from illustrator into photoshop and then double-click it in photoshop to open it back up in illustrator and edit the original. I have seen posts on people doing this between Flash and Illustrator with the now-discontinued Flash Catalyst- a process that was apparently called round-tripping. Ideally, this is the functionality I'd like to have between Flash and Illustrator but I take it from your reply that the answer is 'Does not exist.'

When I bought my iBook I initially installed OS X 10.3.4. I was then given an upgrade CD a year or so later as part of a deal to buy my partner an iBook. I have since lost the upgrade CD but still have the original startup disk, which I have recently had to use to do an erase and restore after a problem.
As my computer still works fine, I want to upgrade the OS.
I am aware that I cannot get Snow Leopard because it uses Intel and obviously my iBook isn't as fast as modern Macs, but what is the most up-to-date OS I can get?
Also, does anyone know where I can get this upgrade?

Unfortunately your profile does not give us specific information about your computer which would help us better advise you. If it shipped OS X 10.3.4 installed it is likely the Early 2004 model with a 1.0 GHz or 1.2 GHz processor. If your computer meets the other Leopard installation system requirements you can install Leopard Mac OS X 10.5.8.
Note that Leopard requires 9 GB of disk capacity for installation. In addition you should have a minimum of 15% of your total disk capacity as contiguous free space to avoid directory corruption. Besides, the HDD in your computer, if it is the original with which it shipped, is getting old and liable to failure without notice as the average life of an internal HDD is approximately 3 to 5 years. A newer, larger capacity HDD is advisable.
I would also suggest maxxing out your RAM to 1.25 GB by adding a 1 GB module in the user serviceable slot.
