What is the best way to install Lion if I have a very slow internet connection ?

This installation is going to be a very big problem for me and I am ****** that no CD will be available.I have a Mac Pro and I can't go carting that around to an Apple store over 4 1/2 hours away.Trying to download huge files is a nightmare because it can take days and sometimes does not even mount when downloaded.I can't even use my connection for anything else while I download this big a file.

I would suggest you wait until August and Apple starts selling Lion on a USB flash drive, as they announced yesterday that they would do.
Regards.

  • What is the best way to install lion in my situation?

i have been running my 4 year old imac from snow leopard on an external hard drive.  I am considering cleaning off the internal drive (750 GB) and using it to test out Lion.
Can I just hook up the  Time Machine that has been backing up the external drive  with snow leopard - download  the system files ( once I know which ones they are)  and then download and add the lion app.  Alternately, I guess I could find the old original Leopard disks,  add my snow leopard upgrade, then the lion upgrade but that seems tedious.   What would you recommend?

Good plan. But why on the TM drive? I'd use the SL drive.
You'll need to download Lion installer on your SL. Then, do a clean install of Lion on your internal, and migrate your stuff from SL in Setup Asistant.

  • What is the best way to install qmail?

I'm about to rebuild my server and want qmail on it. What is the best way to install it?
In the past I've used http://qmailrocks.com/ but I've also looked at  http://lifewithqmail.com/.
The problem I found with qmailrocks was that because it doesn't come from packages I have to remember to keep it up-to-date and I rarely remember.
There is the package in AUR, can anyone comment on the stability of it and how easy it is to get running after it has been installed?

  • HT1364 I just bought a new PC and now have ample space on my C drive to house my music Library which is currenlty installed on a external drive.  What is the best way to install and move the itunes library to my C Drive?

I just bought a new PC and now have ample space on my C drive to house my music Library which is currenlty installed on a external drive.  What is the best way to install and move the itunes library to my C Drive?

If the entire library is on the external drive then simply copy the iTunes folder into <User's Music> on the new computer, then install iTunes. If you've already installed iTunes you will want to remove the empty iTunes folder in <User's Music> first.
If it turns out you only have the media folder on the external drive then take a look at this post...

  • What is the best way to install an Airport to a G5?

Hi. My G5 came without a built in Airport card. I've recently bought an Airport Extreme. What is the best way to install an Airport to a G5? Should I buy the Airport card from ebay or some other retailer & do the installation myself OR should I buy it & get somebody professional to install it?

Hello ajdoyle78. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
The April 2005 and earlier Power Mac G5s are compatible with the AirPort Extreme card. The later Power Mac G5s (models: M9590LL/A, M9591LL/A, M9592LL/A) are not. Instead, these models require a special combo AirPort/Bluetooth card which must be installed by an Apple Authorized Service Provider (AASP).

now only 11000 client in sccm2012
What is the best way to install client for all computer
Note that sccm 2012(1 primary site and 4 site system server every server (4 roles (management point  , Distribution Point  , site system , component server  ) ))
and in boundaries i create boundaries but not for all branch and enable (boundary group for site assignment ) for every group
What is the best way to install client for all computer
    thank u

You basically have 3 options, if you disregard a manual install.
    1. Client Push. Configure an account with local admin rights on the clients, and enable Site-Wide pushing of client.
    2. GPO. Import the GPO templates and enable the client to be installed that way
    3. Startup script.
Of the 3, I usually go with a combination of client push and GPO.
Take a look at http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg712298.aspx for the complete documentation.

  • What is the best way to install snapdrive to many hosts?

Hi all, Next weekend, I planed to install snapdrive to over 160 hosts. So what is the best way to install snapdrive? Over 160 UCS hots! I found "remote install" in snapmanager for Hyper-v. This is useful for me? Please let me know easy way to install snapdrive to so many hosts. Thank you.

The current generation of SnapDrive does not support remote installing to multiple hosts. What you saw about HyperV is simply limited to the HyperV host, so it's not remote to multiple hosts across the network.Since SnapDrive has a command line to install, you CAN however script the remote installation.I suggest you find out the exact installation command which works for your environment and use a program like psexec to remotely execute the installation command against multiple targeted servers. If you need help with the script, NetApp Professional Service can be engaged and can even come on site and do it for you, if needed. hope that helps,Domenico

  • What is the best way to manage tasks?  I have moved from outlook and only have mail and ical

What is the best way to manage tasks.  I have moved from a pc with outlook and have lost 'tasks' in that programme.  Do I have to rely on ical or can I download an app to manage business tasks?

iCal does have reminders but its implementation of tasks is pretty wimpy. There are a number of programs that are better geared to the job. I was a level 4 procrastinator until I discovered Getting Things Done and for me Things is perfect. It lets me handle projects which are dependent upon multiple tasks in a no-nonsense easy fashion. Much less expensive and really not much more than a list maker is Wunderlist. Thankfully there's a ton of shareware offerings - check out MacUpdate.com and see what works for you.

  • What's the best way to capture speech as text in live or recorded Adobe Connection sessions?

    Hi
What's the best way to capture speech as text in live or recorded Adobe Connection sessions?
We would like to have a transcript of the presentation. Is Adobe Connect compatible with Dragon speech recognition software - or is there a preferred Adobe product or method?
We use PCs running Windows 7 Enterprise.

The class java.util.Date is not itself deprecated, however several of its methods are.
For converting string -> date, you should use the class java.text.SimpleDateFormat. That allows you to specify format strings such as MM-dd-yyyy hh:mm:ss for converting date -> string -> date.
If you are wanting to set day/month/year on the date object directly, instead of the Date methods setDay, setMonth, setYear, you should instead use the java.util.Calender class:
    calendar.set(Calendar.MONTH, 4);
The calendar can then be converted to a Date object by calling calendar.getTime().
If you are going to use the date as part of a sql query, I would recommend using a Prepared statement, and the java.sql.Date/java.sql.Timestamp class as well.
To convert from java.util.Date to java.sql.Date)
    jva.util.Date utilDate = Calendar.getInstance().getTime();
    java.sql.Date sqlDate = new java.sql.Date(utilDate.getTime());cheers,

  • What is the best way to install new version... adobe always leaves stuff behind from the old version

    Hi,
I've gone through the installation of a new version, well... 8 times before. And have noticed that adobe has the nasty habit of not cleanly uninstalling the previous versions...
What is the best way to do this?
Should I do a regular install and trust adobe this time to completely remove the old version and its associated directories?
Or should I uninstall the old version and install the new one? I've always been afraid to go this route bocause of the organizer files.
    Thanks for your comments.

So, just to be clear:  the "proper, Adobe-recommended" way to go about an upgrade would be to install the new version and THEN remove the older version by means off "Add/Remove programs"  ??
Thanks to all for your help.

I would in fact recommend a universal 2.5" and 3.5" to USB that is readily available online. Shouldn't cost more than $15 USD and you can use it for SATA, IDE, and PATA. And besides, you never know when it will come in handy.

  • I have two videos and I would like to use parts of both videos with one audio track what is the best way to edit this?, I have two videos and I would like to use parts of both videos with one audio track what is the best way to edit this?

In Final Cut Express I have two videos I'd like to merge parts of each video into a final film.  What is the best way to do this in FCE?

    Hi
I use a slightly different way than Alchroma.
    Same
    • One video on track 1 and the other on Video.track 2
    • Resize to 25% and move one to the left and the other to the right
    Diff
    • I don't use the blade tool
    • I use the Pen tool and change the transparency - then I get fast or slow transitions in same stroke and easy to fine-tune later if needed. (But this can be done with the Roll-tool if Blade is used - so it might be as easy)
    Final
    • Resize to 100% and Center
    Video is done
Audio - very close to this by changing the level so that best audio will dominate
    • Pen tool here too
But that's me - the Alchroma way is as good as this or may be better for some

  • What is the best way to install Leopard?

I am hoping for some advice as to the best method to install Leopard - should I erase and install or simply do an upgrade?? Also, is it worth cloning the hard drive or installing Leopard onto a clean hard drive first?? If so, how does one clone a hard drive and then how do you boot from an external hard drive??
Or should I wait for the next version of Leopard (I am a little concerned about all the reports of bugs etc.)??
Any advice would be very welcome - I have had this MacBook Pro (my first Mac) for a year or two now and love it, but I'm not too sure about how to go about all these things.
    Many thanks.

    Hola Erve,
I would say that if you are hesitant that you should wait for at least rev 1 to come out or once you have found out that all the programs that you need to run are compatible with Leopard. With any major upgrade, you are bound to experience some minor or major issues.
If you decide to install, whatever method you use make sure you back up first!
The best back up mechanism is for you to create a clone of your original drive - this way, if something goes wrong you can revert back to your back up.
    See this about cloning:
    http://www.ks.uiuc.edu/Development/Computers/docs/sysadmin/mac-clone.html
    http://www.macworld.com/weblogs/macgems/2005/06/superduper/
(I'm sure you could find more info you search these forums as well)
After you have made the proper back up, if you want to start clean, I would say that the best way is to erase and install. Know that you will have to reinstall all the applications and move all the files to their correct locations - photos, music, documents, etc.
FYI, I did an upgrade and I have not encountered any major issues. I have even been surprised of the programs that are still running under Leopard!
    Anyway, good luck!

  • What is the best way to install & clone hard drives on macbooks? does apple do that?

It is time for a new hard drive for my macbook - just doiubles the memory, but am still getting the spinning beach ball. The genius bar told me I need a new hard drive, but that I could buy it and out it in myself. But, I just heard that the best way to replace the hard drive is to clone it... and that is beyond my abilities.
Does apple do that??? suggestions? thanks!

Please note that "cloning" a hard drive is not the same as replacing it. You clone the drive to preserve its contents (usually on the drive that will be the replacement). You still have to get into the MB, physically, take out the old drive and install the new one. There are plenty of web sites that tell you how to do this replacement. This is one I like: http://www.macinstruct.com/node/130
The details do vary depending on the vintage of your MB, so if that link is not for your model, try searching the web for instructions specific to your need. Or post back here with details about your Mac.
If Apple did agree to do this for you it would probably cost almost as much as a new MB. (And if you do buy a new MB, my local Mac store will do the data transfer as a bonus!)
