What is the best way to lay out color-coded Excel data in InDesign?

I’ve been away from layout for some time. I now need to lay out color-coded Excel data (3 columns, 200 rows) in InDesign 5.5. The data will need to be in alpha order and each row will be color coded, with a color key at the top of the page. What is the best way to lay this out? Should I use the table tool and create a new style for each color that I need to use?
Thanks for your help.

I think this will work in CS3.
Start off by inserting Styles of WEEK, Mon to Friday (as per left)
Set the Week No. to Bullets and Numbering and insert as per screen shot
Do the same for Days Monday through to Sunday
Also set up Monday style NEXT STYLE to be Tuesday
When you get to Sunday - loop the Styles back to WEEK style.
Then as per first screen shot you just have to insert RETURNS all the way down to initiate the style.

Did the Mac come with two grey disks when new? If so, use disk one to erase the drive using Disk Utility and then re-install the OS from the same disk. Once installed, quit and when the new owner boots they can set it up as a new out-of-the-box Mac when they boot it up. The grey disks need to be passed on with the computer.
If you need detailed instructions on how to erase and re-install please post back.
If the Mac came with Lion or Mountain Lion installed the above process can be done using the Recovery HD as since Lion no restore disks are supplied with the Mac.
The terms of the licence state that a Mac should be sold/passed on with the OS installed that was on the machine when new (or words to that effect).

  • What is the best way to match back 3rd party vendor data to our SQL Server Database?

So we have this 3rd party data that we need to match back to our database. We have determined that the "ID" column that the 3rd party is sending us back data is a concatenated key of our member's SSN, Gender, and CCYYMMDD Birthdate. In 90% of the
cases, we can match back on this. However, the other 10% we have to try a couple of different ways...using our Member #, using what is called a HFCA #.
We are talking about 10s and 20s of data here...NOT thousands.
What is the best way to handle this via SSIS? A SQL Server Stored Procedure to cursor through the 3rd party data or multiple INSERT-SELECT statements trying to marry back the data? My thought process was to cursor through each record, try and match on our
90% match, and then determine if we have a match or not, and then if we do not, then try our other means. Should I SELECT 1 to see which matching criteria to go with? So in other words, for the first match...
    IF EXISTS(SELECT 1 FROM TableName WHERE ColumnName1 = .....) BEGIN....ELSE...Blah Blah Blah
    or simply continue doing INSERT-SELECTS...
I guess I am asking about the efficiency of using a cursor within a SQL Server Stored Procedure here.
Thanks for your review and am hopeful for a reply.

You are asking a SSIS question but posted in tsql - which is it?  But before you go further, which matching logic should have priority?  Member # or the SSN/gender/birthdate? Note that the priority does not depend on matching success percentage.
In other words, you may prefer to match on member # first (even though it has a lower success ratio but a higher confidence ratio), followed by ssn..., followed by whatever.
In any case, this sounds much more like a SSIS logic issue.  Your questions regarding cursors and stored procedures seem premature at this point. OTOH it may depend on what you are actually trying to accomplish.

  • What is the best way to keep 7 days most current data in tabledata

    Hi,
Can anybody help me to keep most recent 7 days data in a table? any data older than 7 days should be removed which cen be done once a day.
What is the best way to do this? partition, re_create table or anything else?
    Thanks
    George

Have you considered partitioning the table? You could then drop the oldest partition every day, which would be marginally quicker & easier than deleting the 10,000 rows. 100,000 rows is a pretty small table to partition, but it may be worth considering.
I wouldn't expect there to be a significant difference on query performance no matter how you set this up. You won't reset the high water mark, but that is only important when you are doing a full table scan and Oracle will reuse the space for the current day's data, so it's not like the high water mark will be constantly increasing.

  • What is the best way to send out mass emails on an iMac?

We have been using a different system and sending out emails on a PC.  I now need to send out a newsletter to our database and, having used one of the templates on the iMac need to send it out on my system.  Can anyone advise on the best way to do this?  I have updated the iMac to OS Yosemite 10.10.1 version

Create a group contact in Apple Contacts.
For examples, you create a group called business with as many email addresses inside. On your Apple Mail, you just type business, you will be able to send out the group emails out!!!

  • What is the best way of exporting artboards from Illustrator for use in InDesign?

    Hi,
I have an artboard in Illustrator CS6 which contains some text with a scribble effect applied to it.  I would like to use this text in an InDesign CS6 document.  I am wondering what the best way of exporting/importing this artboard would be so that I get the best quality.

  • What is the best way to send auto mail with excel(generated by query) attachment?

    Hello,
Need to generate first data from stored procedure and the save it to an excel file and then send mail with the same excel file.
So am searching for the best way so that i could do all process in a single task with daily or monthly schedule.
As per my understanding, we could it via SSIS and by sql server using
    sp_send_dbmail.
But i have to generate excel file first by stored procedure and then end it by mail.
So please suggest the best way to accomplish all task in a single task.
    Thanks
    Ajay

    Hi Ajay,
As shown in the blog mentioned by Syed, to delete records from the Excel file, you need to use Update OpenRowset command to update the corresponding rows to blank.
Alternatively, you can also use Derived Column Transformation or Conditional Split Transformation after the OLE DB Source so that you can replace the target rows with NULL before exporting to Excel destination or just redirect the expected records to the
    Excel destination.
Then, in the Control Flow, you can add a Send Mail Task to send the Excel file by setting it as the attachment. The following screenshot is for your reference:

  • What is the best way to drop out a background to white?

I have several quite old architects drawings to reproduce. The problem is that with age, the original paper has yellowed and foxed. Can anyone suggest a good way of dropping out the background to white so that the image will look nice and clean when I print it, please? Normally I would bring the white point slider up in Levels and sort of burn it out, but I was wondering if there is a more subtle method of doing this. The trouble is I don't want to loose detail in the fine pencil lines at the same time.
    Thanks everyone - Brian.

Thanks for that, I'll give your method a try.
No no, I don't mean an insult - you read it wrong! Last thing I would do when asking for help... No, I mean that just 'turning up the white level' is crude, in that it looks like its been blasted by an atom bomb and looks awful, and I was wondering if a more scientific approach might not be applicable. For example, I've tried putting colour sampler points in the image and then independantly adjusting the R, G, and B levels etc until they match at 255 each, but it still looks blown out, but that's what I meant by being more 'scientific', ie perhaps using some of Photoshop's ability to measure colours to enable me to drop them out, for example.
I found a previous thread along the same lines as this and one suggestion was to use some special filters, but they turned out to be mac only.
The 'forensic' reference was to the Color Deconvolution filter, it was designed for police forensic departments as an aid to help spot where two different colours of ink have been used on a document, for example.
By the way, the drawings I'm working on are not all B/W only, some have colour washes on them too...
Perhaps the only way is to try and select the background areas first and then to drop them out.

  • WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO KNOCK OUT TRAFFIC NOISE IN SOUNDTRACK PRO

I have watched apple pros knock out the sound of the boat noise and just had the people talking, could someone explain how you knock out that sound again, I am pretty knew to this program. I am trying to knock out the background sound of the traffic. Thank you for your help,
    Bill

I worked on a project to cleanup up audio - where 'guerilla video' was shot in the streets of SF during the massive war protests - had:
    a. sanitation trucks operating
    b. wind
    c. bicycle bell
    d. heels/ footsteps
    e. background voices
    f. sound of the camera operators lens cap clicking against the camera body
    g. other vehicular noises
    I used:
    Peak
    Sound Soap
    Eventide Harmonizer
    Logic Audio / Pro plugins
    Lexicon PCM 80
    STP / plugins
and although we were able to reduce some of these, overall, I was quite unsatisified and realized, perhaps for the last time, that you simply cannot remove most 'aural debris' from a mix, period. If you want a quiet background, well now you know why most productions bother to shoot on sound isolated stages and love to yell "quiet on the set" (he).
And Ive had those who would argue with me in saying that 'old/dirty paintings can be cleaned up' - perhaps true however, usually the debris is on an outer layer and not mixed in much with the original artwork, at least to some extent. And even this kind of work is incredibly delicate and said to be quite difficult to do.
In the final analysis, the shooter was advised to realize that the very nature of the video - its completely urban setting, was still quite compelling.

  • What is the best way to add a day to a Date object?

I have come across numerous examples on adding a day to the CURRENT date, using the Calendar object. However, what I need to do is to add a day to a Date variable.
Can someone tell me how to do that? I tried to set the value of my Date variable into the Calendar object, but, it appears that for the current JAVA version, they have deprecated the getYear(), getMonth() and getDay() methods for the Date class.
    Really appreciate your suggestions.
    Thank you in advance,
    SiowLing

I haven't seen the OP express a concern over how to create/obtain the Date object (he could be using "new Date()" given the emphasis on "CURRENT"). Milliseconds is fine too if that's what you have (for example from a java.sql.Date).
So the way to add a day to a Date object (the OPs original question) is to:
    - set the Date on a Calendar using setTime
    - add 1 to the DATE field of the calendar
    - get the Date from the Calendar using getTime
Obviously you're right if the OP doesn't have Date object to start with, but just the "numbers" for year, month, day.

  • What is the best way to change to color of the first word in a paragraph?

I have a lot of paragraphs where I want the first word to keep the same font, size, type - but I want to change just the color of the lettering.

p:first-child em {} is overqualifying that selector, I think. First, you do not need the :first-child pseudo element to target that first paragraph, since you already have that <em> tag surrounding that word. What's the point of adding in useless specificity? Second, it overcomplicates and bloats the code.
I also feel <em> is the wrong tag to apply, depending on whether or not you would pronounce that word differently from the rest of the text. The use of em implies that. If it's merely used for styling, a <span> tag would fit better.
So I would go with mytax's code. Simple, and efficient.
Would be handy though if CSS had a :first-word pseudo element :-).
In the meantime while we wait for improvements, if you DO need complete typographic control, try lettering.js (jquery plugin):
    http://letteringjs.com/
    Like this:
    <p class="word_split">Don't break my heart.</p>
    <script>
    $(document).ready(function() {
      $(".word_split").lettering('words');
    </script>
    And then:
.word1 {} in your css would target "Don't"
.word2 {} in your css would target "break"

  • HT5996 What is the best way to find out what OS all Mac users on the server are running?

I am the administrator of both Windows PC's as well as having 12 Mac-mini users.  I know several users have not updated their OS in quite a while.  Is there some way for me to find out what version a user is running beside going from one computer to another?
I do have OS X Server if that makes a difference.
I have been working with Mac's for less than a year, so I'm a work in progress when it comes to the Mac World.
    Thanks!

If you're able to log into those computers, check the content of the file /System/Library/CoreServices/SystemVersion.plist on them. If you're working from a Mac, you may also be able to find out by selecting the drive in the Finder and choosing Get Info from the File menu.

  • PE 13: What is the best way to cut out an unwanted segment and leave a fade-out/fade-in overlap?  Without multi-track overlaps?

I have a long video segment and want to remove unwanted segments and replace them with fade-in/fade-out transitions.  I know that I can do this between two separate video tracks by fading out Video 1 and fading in Video 2 and having the two tracks overlap during the transition.  Is there an easy way to do this on the same track?  The way I've done this before is to cut out the unwanted segment, then move the two segments to separate tracks and overlap them.
To compound the problem, I have a separate audio track for the wireless microphone I'm wearing. I need to pull that into the fade transitions.  So that's Video 1 and Audio 1 with Narration, all cut at the same time with overlapping fade-out/fade-in in the fewest steps.  Can Premiere Elements 13 handle that?

    billsbayou
Add On...I am weighing the merits of applying an audio transition directly below the video transition. Considering Crossfade's  Constant Gain or Constant Power with a forced alignment of Between Clips. According to Adobe documentation
Adobe Premiere Elements Help | Applying transitions to clips
Adobe Premiere Elements includes two audio transitions in the Crossfade category: Constant Power and Constant Gain. Though both provide fades, they differ slightly. Constant Power creates a smoother-sounding fade, while Constant Gain, though mathematically linear, often sounds abrupt.

  • What is the best way to white out logos

    Hi
I have some coloured logos  on white backgrounds
How do I have the logos as white on a coloured background
I want them to look a little like this bar I found
Any help would be much appreciated

    John Joslin wrote:
Holding Ctrl, drag it into the new Background file.
(This assumes you have nice solid colours and clear outlines!)
(Disclaimer: There are always three ways to do anything in Photoshop.)
If it was my job, I'd go to the Brands of the World website and get fresh, clear vector versions of the logos and build a perfect version from scratch. Wouldn't take any longer than trying to extract clean selections from the mage you already have, and the results would be immeasurably better.
One thing you have to be careful of is in checking to make sure the logos are authentic. The first one I checked—SAP (the first one in the list)—the "A" in the logo is wrong. The crossbar should be rounded a bit. It would be easy to match the real logo on this one...but it just shows you have to pay close attention. If you look through the other "SAP" logos, you should find a more accurate version.
