What is the best way to put a movie on a DVD?

I want to put my movie on a DVD and show it on the TV. What is the best way to do this?

Yes, you can put more than one movie on a DVD, as long as the total length of both together is not over 2hrs for single-layer DVDs.
I know what you mean about it taking so long for the burning....my DVDs are usually just close to 2hrs, so taking 12-14hrs to burn is not unusual for me. I just do it overnight, and it is finished in the morning. I 'save to disc image' first, and then do the burning from Disk Utility.
Trust me, I've tried everything I can think of to be able to.
I am surprised that you cannot get your movies exported back to DV tapes with your camcorder. I looked up its specs, and it shows it has Firewire port, so you should be able to export. I would pursue this further....
Have you tried saving your movies as QuickTime Full-Quality and then importing that into a new iMovie and exporting that? You will need to have more free space to copy the movie, but once you have made the QT movie, you can delete the original one, and you can delete the QT one after the export. Also, it may take a LOOOONNNGGG time for the compression/process necessary to create the QT movie, and somewhat long for the import into iMovie, but I have found that iMovies that would not export to my camcorder in their original form exported easily after I made the QT one.

What is the best way of putting music onto another iphone for a different itunes account user and different phone carrier? multiple user accounts on my mac? or home sharing to put the music on? then they have their own itunes account for apps etc?

    Hi DVX100Shooter,
Congratulations on getting your son a new iPad, I am sure he will enjoy it.
Family Sharing is one way of managing both purchases and content between members of a related group of people. Each member must have their own Apple ID. You can choose what music you wish to share with the family from your own account. See this article -
OS X Yosemite: Share purchases with your family
In particular the section titled Hide a purchase from other family members
The music library on your son's iPad is separate from yours, but under Family Sharing you agree to pay for all purchases made through the iTunes store. If you wish to control what is purchased you can set up the Ask to Buy option for any family member under adult age in your location. See this article for details -
Request and make purchases with Ask to Buy - Apple Support
Gift cards may not be used for billing of purchases under family sharing, with the exception that a family member may use gift cards to purchase their own content. See this article for information about Family Sharing billing policies -

  • What is the best way to put various songs into one album?

I have been adding album information and album artwork within iTunes to take advantage of cover flow, but i have a lot of songs in my music library that are "stand alone" songs - it is the only song from that artist. I want to put all of these songs together in one album, so all of my miscellaneous rock songs will be put into a Rock Music album or file. I want to do this to eliminate all of the grey boxes within cover flow for all of these songs. When i give the files all the same album name (Rock Music) and album artist (Various Artists) it still does not put them all together within iTunes. It will do it for some, but not all.
What is the best way to put all of these miscellaneous songs into the same album?

Try marking all the tracks as part of a compilation. Click on the first track in your list, hold down the shift key and click on the last. Right click anywhere in the selection and choose Get Info, when you are asked if you want to edit multiple items say yes. Change compilation at the bottom of the window to Yes.

I just bought a new PC and now have ample space on my C drive to house my music Library which is currenlty installed on a external drive.  What is the best way to install and move the itunes library to my C Drive?

If the entire library is on the external drive then simply copy the iTunes folder into <User's Music> on the new computer, then install iTunes. If you've already installed iTunes you will want to remove the empty iTunes folder in <User's Music> first.
If it turns out you only have the media folder on the external drive then take a look at this post...

  • I finally was successful in burning a CD of a slideshow I created in iPhoto, however, it is blurry. What is the best way to burn to a CD or DVD for clarity. Also, I realize if burned in iPhoto it will only be playable in iPhoto. Help! This is needed soon!

I finally was successful in burning a CD of a slideshow I created in iPhoto, however, it is blurry. What is the best way to burn to a CD or DVD for clarity. Also, I realize if burned in iPhoto it will only be playable in iPhoto. Help! This is needed soon for a wedding reception!

What version of iPhoto are you using?  How do you plan to view the slideshow at the wedding reception, on a TV screen?  If so then you will need to send the slideshow to iDVD and burn a disk from there.
If you're in iPhoto 11 and the slideshow was created in the slideshow mode and not from an album, then go to the Share menu and select iDVD.  That will create a QT movie of the slideshow and import it into iDVD.
In iDVD select your theme and setup the menu as you'd like.  If you want the movie to begin plahying immediately when the disk is inserted into the DVD player go into the Gallery mode and drag the movie into the Autostart  bin at the left.
If you want the movie to loop continuously go to the Advanced menu and select Loop.
When you're finished setting upb the iDVD project save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image menu option. This will allow you to check it with DVD Player before tryingto burn to disk.  Mount the disk imnage by double clicking on it and launch DVD Player and play.  If the movie plays as you want and everything is good you can  burn to disk with Disk Utility at the slowest speed available to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatium, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

I have created an image with multiple layers and many of the

  • What is the best way to export a movie to avoid losing quality?

I need to get a movie I made on a DVD somehow, but I seem to loose quality in color and overall sharpness when I take it into iDVD and burn a disc. This movie will be projected very large, so I need the best quality possible. What is the best way to export it for the highest quality?

There's been a ton of testing reported here on this issue, but I don't think there is a consensus on the "best" method. For one thing, it depends on what you're starting with.
In my experience with DV video and hi-res photos, it was tough to beat the result I got exporting "large" to the media browser. (Because of my DV footage, HD was not an option.) This made a H.264 file. I could only get a slight improvement by exporting via Quicktime to a H.264 file at double the resolution of the "large" file made by iMovie. Of course this took longer to export and for iDVD to encode. Overall, I'd say it wasn't worth it for the barely visible improvement. That improvement was only detectable in the slides, BTW, not in the DV video.
Many recommend exporting to AIC, which should be an essentially lossless export out of iMovie. This is what the share to iDVD supposedly does, I got poor results with any flow that used an AIC file exported out of iMovie for use by iDVD. Never figured out why, but my results were always better if I compressed to H.264 on the way out of iMovie.

  • What's the best Mac app to copy movies from a DVD to the iPod Touch?

So let's say i have a DVD and i want to make a copy of it and use an app to transfer it to my iPod Touch, what's the best way of doing this?
I heard of Handbrake and Videora, are they any good?
EDIT: I am using a Mac (OS X)

I use DVD decrypter in rip my DVD's to .vob, which is the same format the movie is on the disk
and then use Videora to convert to .mp4 with ipod touch codecs and high resolution
most end up being 900MB to 1.5GB

  • What is the best way to reduce a .mov file size

I had a music DVD that I converted to a .mov so that I could cut and paste in QT pro which i have done.
Now I have a .mov file that is 46 gigabits in size and I want to reduce it considerably without ruining the quality of sound or visual.
Whats the best way to do this.
    Thanks

  • What is the best way to share HD movies?

I am thinking of moving from digital8 recording to HD (leaning toward HDD or SD instead of miniDV as the later seems to be getting obsolete). Now I can burn a DVD to give to low-tech family members. It does not sound like I will be able to burn HD DVD's, so what will be the best way to share home videos with family members?
Also for archiving purposes, is it easy to hook up a "backup hard-drive" to store family movies for posterity?
    Message was edited by: verb356

Personally, I use MobileMe and let my family watch the movies on line. It is easy to share this way. I share the movie in Large (960x540) or Medium to iTunes. Then I share to Mobile Me.
For personal viewing, I use the Apple TV.
You can also burn a data DVD of your finished movie, and let them copy the file to iTunes from their data DVD.
You can upload the movie to other video sharing services such as YouTube or Vimeo.
You can burn a blu-ray disk if you have Toast and a BluRay burner. You can burn a short movie to regular DVD media using Toast and a regular DVD burner that is playable on most BluRay Players.

  • What's the best way to export a movie?

I'm exported by using File/Export/Quictime movie. Is that the best way to retain the best quality, or is there a better way?

#42 - Quick and dirty way to author a DVD
Shane's Stock Answer #42 - David Roth Weiss' Secret Quick and Dirty Way to Author a DVD:
The absolute simplest way to make a DVD using FCP and DVDSP is as follows:
    1. Export a QT movie, either a reference file or self contained using current settings.
    2. Open DVDSP, select the "graphical" tab and you will see two little monitors, one blue, one green.
    3. Select the left blue one and hit delete.
    4. Now, select the green one, right click on it amd select the top option "first play".
    5. Now drag your QT from the broswer and drop it on top of the green monitor.
    6. Now, for a DVD from an HD source, look to the right side and select the "general tab" in the track editor, and see the Display Mode, and select "16:9 pan-scan."
    7. Hit the little black and yellow burn icon at the top of the page and put a a DVD in when prompted. DVDSP will encode and burn your new DVD.
    THATS ALL!!!
NOW...if you want a GOOD LOOKING DVD, instead of taking your REF movie into DVD SP, instead take it into Compressor and choose the BEST QUALITY ENCODE (2 pass VBR) that matches your show timing. Then take THAT result into DVD SP and follow the rest of the steps. Except you can choose "16:9 LETTERBOX" instead of PAN & SCAN if you want to see the entire image.

  • What's the best way to put a programmatically sizeable transparent image onto a VI front panel

The problem is twofold: 1) how can programmatically read a transparent image (i.e. image with transparent background) and 2) how can I programmatically position and size that image onto a VI front panel. The best luck I had with item 2 was with a boolean custom control with an imported image. However, this control does not have a programmatic method for importing an image, so the image had to be manually cut&pasted into the custom control.

    Hi,
If the image is static, it's possible. You can drop a metafile on the front
panel, and use Panel>Decorations> to get a reference to the image. Resize it
    as desired.
Changing the image (e.g. from file) is not possible this way, but you can
put multiple images on the screen and change the visibility...
If you want to make a picture viewer, I'd consider an activex control (this
way you can load several picture formats without any programming).
    Regards,
    Wiebe.

  • What's the best way subtitle a film I got on DVD?

I was hired to subtitle several films. They were given to me on DVDs, and I am supposed to deliver on DVD. Originally I was going to use mpeg streamclip to make the files into a QT file, and the subtitle them in FCP.
I have been reading that you can subtitle in DVD Studio Pro, though. Would that be better? How would I do it.
Also, if anyone has a favorite font size/style to use for subtitling, please let me know. ANy other hints about creating appealing, easy to read titles would be appreciated.

Mr. RedTruck has some very good suggestions.
I'll try to add a bit to that:
Creating subtitles is about timing/shortening/translation. You'll be fighting with that so much that you will not have time to even think about the looks or TV output. The only thing that is important during 99% of the work is concentrate on words and readability. What you are doing is creating metadata, that will be used later on for final outut (in whatever form).
As for the looks, during the translation process you only set the linebreak and perhaps add italic words.
So before you begin you pick a 'look'(font/size/color)
Next you need to know how much you can fit on a line, so you know your limitations in length/when to split text into two titles.
Do not underestimate the struggle when you have to fit a written translation into the time it's spoken.
A title comes on the moment somebody speaks, and goes off when he shuts up.
Basic rule of thumb, when the text is easy to understand, you have to be able to read it OUT LOUD in that duration. That almost always means shortening the text, while maintaining the original content as good as possible.
This is what makes the difference. If you do it right, people will not notice the subtitles, and think they can understand the language by themselves.
If you are going out of sync or put in too much text to read in the short time the titles are on, or break up titles on non-logical places, viewers will find it a bad translation (even if it is perfect) and will be annoyed.
If you have more than a few titles to do, forget about DVD SP.
You need to be able to type your translation and listen to the movie at the same time.
Forget about FCP for the same reason. It's just not fast enough.
There is dedicated software to do this, one application written by me:
    http://www.videotoolshed.com/?page=products&pID=12
No, it is not cheap, and yes, it will take you some time to master it.
But it has all the options to create all kind of subtitles, and more important, once you are getting the hang of it, you will be at least 5 times more productive than using free tools (those are around as well).
Last but not least, it comes with very good support
You were talking about 'several films'.
I don't know how long they are, and how much of it must be subtitled, but some statistics:
A one hour movie has some 600 subtitles. That takes a trained professioal subtitler way more than a day to create just the subtitle file (containing text with timing info). So i hope you know what you're in for.
Again, getting from there to the final output is nothing compared to the effort to create the translation/timing.

  • What is the best way to put LabVIEW DSC data into an Oracle database?

I have been collecting data using LabVIEW DSC 7.0 for several years and have always accessed the data from the Citadel database via the Historical Data Viewer.  I would now like to begin putting this data into an Oracle database.  My company stores all their data in Oracle and it would provide me all the benefits of their existing infrastructure such as automated backups, data mining tools, etc.
My initial thought is to use "Read Trace.vi" in LabVIEW to pull historical data from the citadel database at regular intervals (e.g. 1 minute) and insert this data into Oracle via ODBC.  In this way, I do not need to track the value changes in order to know when to write to Oracle.  I also considered replicating the citadel database using some other method, but I recall that the tables used by citadel are somewhat complicated.  I only need a simple table with columns for channel, timestamp, and data.  The "Read Trace.vi" will provide me data in this format.
I do not need to update the Oracle database in real time, a few minute delay is acceptable. If anyone has a better idea or additional insight please let me know. Thanks.

In terms of connectivity, you want to use ADO, not ODBC. Beyond that, it all depends on the structure of the data and what you are going to want to do with it. This is a very big question that you need to be getting some in-depth assistance.
