What is the best way to restore my itunes library, etc.?

My imac started to meltdown last week to the point I couldn't get it to boot. After many tries, I finally was able to access my HD using diskwarrior. Even target mode wouldn't work!
The good news is that I was able to copy my libraries, etc onto my external drive and I have all my music, podcasts, etc.
Bad news is that I had to completely scrub my imac and do a complete reinstall. Now that I have a fresh install of itunes, how can I get it back to the way it was before the meltdown?
When I attache my iphone, itunes wants to wipe out the iphone and sync with the info in itunes, which there is none! The data and setup on the iphone is current and itunes is not. So, in line with my rebuild of itunes, can I trick this new install of itunes into thinking it is my old itunes?
Thanks!

What is the best way to share a iTunes library between 5 users on the same computer?
Currently I have a common itunes library in a shared folder that each user is linked to.  The problem is that when one user adds music to the shared file, it does not automaticaly appear to other users when they open their iTunes.  They have to go to the shared library and select the new music in order to make it visable in their iTunes.
Would iTunes file shareing fix this problem?
    Thanks

Rick, are you saying that if you try to share a folder outside of home and use sharepoints, then the other mac wont prompt you to log in? Have you tried that? It is hard to believe that is the case
I am sort of saying that. Have you tried it? I know it's hard to believe, but you really need to help us out by trying some steps that you don't believe.
We can't see what your exact situation is. We sort of know what's worked for us out here. Just trying to help you get this going in less than 24 hours!
Sharepoints manages the samba configuration file. It's free software that puts a pretty face on an otherwise cumbersome config file.
    Give it a shot.
windows will not prompt for passwords, I have tried this with multiple computer at home for both vista and xp
As I stated. You will not get prompted on windows, if you have set up sharing in an insecure fashion. You are not using a secured sharing situation.
    No argument with your statement.

  • HT1751 What is the best way to move my iTunes library from an external PC drive to a Mac external drive?

I just make the move to Mac computers.  My iTunes library is currently on a PC formatted external drive.  I would like to move it to an external drive that i have formatted for Mac.  What is the best way to do this?

Is the entire library on the external drive or just the media folder? If it is the latter, and you still have access to the PC then see make a split library portable.
If the drive is in FAT32 format you can connect a portable library directly to the Mac, holding down Option as you start iTunes. Otherwise you either need to copy it to a local drive (Mac should be able to read NTFS) or install a full service NTFS driver so that the library can be read and updated.

  • What is the best way to back up itunes library

I have my imac time machine program set to back up my computer every day to an external hard drive. I recently updated itunes and I lost some of my songs. I tried to find them in time machine but I couldn't find them. itunes support was good and I was able to download them again but I'm wondering what is the best way to back up my songs so I don't have to ask to download them again. I have a lot of podcast that I don't want to keep hard copies of they aren't as important to me.
As of now I have all the songs burned to a music cd but I just want to know if others think that time machine isn't the best back up for itunes and the cd's are the way to go.
    Thanks for the help.

  • What is the best way to save your itunes library?

What happens if my computor completely crashes and I lose all my files including itunes and all the music I have put on there? Is it possible to save my library to anything so that in such event I am simply able to load my itunes library onto another computor. Any Suggestions??

Hello Rebecca and welcome to discussions,
The very best way is to back it all up onto an external hardrive, using a cloning or back up Application. Using this method - if your computer does crash or fail you can just transfer all the music back to another computer.
You can also back up onto DVDs if you have a burner thats suitable.
Back up back up back up - Always back up. Its always worth doing.
    Hope that helps some.

  • What's the best way to correct my iTunes library's track and artists names?

I need to know how i can i correct the name of the files in my iTunes library.
For example, a lot of people have REM in their library which is not correct, it's R.E.M.
I am sure there's an application that will scan my library and correct the info.

While at first glance iTunes does an adequete job of naming music it does have its issues. It will not change the name of the actual file to match the music.
There are much better programmes out there to do this, I use mp3Tag (free). This will change your tag data and you can change your filename to match. It should be pointed out that this will not work with music downloaded from the iTunes store only the stuff you have ripped.
I have not tried it by converting iTunes Plus music to mp3 and then changing the tag data. Does anyone know if this works?

  • What's the best way to display my iTunes Library?

    Hi All,
I slways loved the idea that LP's. and to a lesser degree cd's, were something I loved to see displayed in my main room.  Flicking through my collection, seeing something I hadn't played in ages, but also having the cover art available to look at.  Not so easy having gone digital and being pressured to dispose of my CD's, I'd love to hear how people look through their collections, and have ways to visialise them on screens.

  • What is the best way to back up iTunes on an external HD w/o getting numbers added to the title?

What is the best way to back up iTunes on an external HD w/o getting numbers & dashes or underscores added to the begenning of the title? ex:  "10_Help"

    orionsm42 wrote:
That is what I have been doing but when I simply highlight, then drag the files (songs) to the hard drive, numbers and a dash (or underscore) appears at the beginning of the song’s title. There may be as many as ten songs with “10_” (then the title) then there will be ten or so songs with “11_” and on and on. This includes the entire list, making it difficult to locate songs to restore to the library since the group of ‘10s’ will include songs with different “first letters” in the title. Each number-group will have a non-alphabetized group of songs. If the songs are dragged back to iTune library, the numbers and dash always follow and become part of the song’s title in iTunes making it impossible to sort by title.
    1. In iTunes, slelct ALL songs in your Library - Get Info - check the box next to the track number - this will remove the track number for ALL music in your library.
    or
    2. Use a renamer like Renamer4Mac or ABetterFinderRename to remove the enumeration AFTER moving everything ot the external HD.
Personally I'd do the latter as the former will "pooch" album track order in yout iTunes.

  • What is the best way to set up iTunes on our home network so all family members have access to all of our itunes library, even music we don't have on the cloud?

I have five different people using 10 different apple devices on one itunes account in our family.  We have had trouble sharing.  What is the best way to set up itunes on our home network?  We have purchased music that sits on icloud, but we also have music we have imported from our previous cd library.  Our itunes program keeps crashing and dumping everyone's playlists.  So far we have all been using just the one desktop computer to sync to because we can't figure out how to share the same librarly and playlists on multiple computers in our home so devices can be synced at any location as well as playlists and purchases be made.

What is the best way to set up itunes on our home network?
One iTunes library per person.  One iTunes account per person.
If people wish to share songs, they can make copies.

  • What is the best way to set up iTunes to deal with a massive media library?

I have a really big media library...probably 7k-10k digital photos, close to 1,000 ripped CDs, and over 600 ripped DVDs, all stored on 1.5TB external hard disks in a 4-drive enclosure.
Due to a recent technical glitch, I find myself installing a new drive and moving the current library. My question is, what is the best way to set up iTunes' settings to deal with a media library that is both external to the Mac on which it runs, and spans multiple physical hard disk units?
I generally like the idea of iTunes organizing my library for me (i.e. keeping everything in Media Type>Artist>Album folders via the "Automatically Add to iTunes" folder), but I'm not sure how that's going to work spanning multiple drives.
I just figure since I'm basically starting over with my iTunes installation, maybe there's a better way to do it.
Thanks in advance for any advice you can offer.

You can set them up as a software RAID using Disk Utility.
It'll simply be one large disk for all intents and purposes.

  • What is the best way to transfer my iphoto library from old imac to new imac. both have iphoto 9.2.1

What is the best way to transfer my iphoto library from current imac to my new imac.  Both imacs have iphoto 9.2.1
os on old imac is 10.6.8.   os on new imac is 10.7.2.   I want the albums  and events to stay intact.  I have 4500 photos and 79 videos. 14.9 gb. looking for some advice here. Thanks so much.

Connect the two Macs together (network, firewire target mode, etc) and drag the iPhoto library intact as a single entity from the old Mac to the pictures folder of the new Mac - launch iPhoto on the new mac and it will open the library and convert it as needed and you will be ready move forward.
