It's a calendar that contains any birthdays that are entered in your contacts.

  • Why does the birthday calendar toggle off automatically when I want it set on?

On my Mac the birthday calendar doesn't display.  So, I check the box in iCal Preferences and they show up in the calendar.  However, after a few minutes they disappear again and when I check the Preference settings, the box is unchecked.  I have done this over and over and it keeps happening.  What's up?

  • When I try to add a new event to iCal a dialog says "you can't add or change events in the Birthday Calendar". How do I cancel this?

When I try to add a New Event to iCal a dialog box keeps saying "you can't add or change events in the Birthday Calendar". iCal is, however, receiving up-dates from my other devoces via iCloud. Can anyone help unblock this for me please?

You can not add events to the birthday's calendar. To add birthday's to the birthday calendar you need to add the birthday to a contact in the Contacts app.
You can set your default calendar here:
iCal > Preferences > General  > Default Calendar and chose the calendar you want to default to.

  • What is the home calendar on i cloud

What is the Home calendar on icloud?

It must be a calendar you created in your iCloud account.  If you want to change the name to something else, double-click it and type the name you prefer.

  • How can I activate  the birthday calendar on iCloud?

I've got activate the birthday calendar on my iphone and imac, but on icloud does not appear. When I go to the address book on iCloud and select the preferences button, the window does not show all the options, and I can activate the birthday calendar...

As you have found, if you restore the calendars from a backup, iCloud merrily brings them into line with itself by deleting them.
There is a workaround for this, though it's a bit of a fandago: please see this page -
    http://www.wilmut.webspace.virginmedia.com/notes/timemachine.html
It's written for MobileMe but I would expect the process to be the same for iCloud (a confirmation of this would be helpful so I can add that to the web page). As you have a backup anyway you can't really get into any serious problems.

  • How to enter an event in the Birthday calendar?

I just stated to enter events on my iPad calendar, but can't seem to enter on the Birthday Calendar.

when  you edit the contact there's an option for 'other fields'. tap on that and you can enter their birthdays which will then appear in your calendar

  • Where is the 'Birthdays calendar" and how do I add birthdays?

I need to add birthdays to same-named calendar, but don't know where it comes from. Is it automatically populated? From contacts, from address book?

The information in the Birthdays calendar is culled from your Address Book (Contacts). Add the birthdays to your contacts and they will show up in the calendar.

  • HT1688 How do you add to the birthday calendar when info is not included in Contact info, i.e. child's birthday?

I'm trying add birthday info that I maintained on my former cell phone which had an option for addition of independent birthdays.  From what I've read in the IPhone 4 Manual, this type of info is only added when part of a Contact's info (Address Book Info).  So what about independent birthdays, like a child or children of a Contact?  I don't want to add each child as a separate Contact as this would be a waste of space.  Other than creating an event in the main calendar, is there a method to add these birthdays with the birthday icon & preferred Alert notifications?

I've run into this problem before when using a VI that's in the Advanced Analysis library. Building the DLL resulted in "lvanlys.dll" being copied into the "data" directory of the place where I created the DLL. When distributing the LabVIEW DLL I had created to the target platform I had to also distribute the "lvanlys" DLL. In my case there was no license issue since there was a license for the target machine but it only had the run-time engine installed. I don't know why the "lvanlys" DLL wasn't in the run-time engine install. All I know was that I had to include the "lvanlys" DLL to tag along when I distributed my LabVIEW DLL. I suspect a similar situation is occurring with you and you need to provide these "auxiliary" DLLs if they're not in the run-time install directory of the target machine. You will need to check about any licensing issues though!

  • Can I make a calendar that works like the "Birthday Calendar" that updates for something like an anniversary?

I would like to have a calendar called Anniversaries that updates like Birthdays. Is there a way to do this? I like the way it shows the age of the person and would like it to show the number of anniversaries. This would be most helpful for many types of anniversaries. I have it now as a birthday but it is somewhat cumbersome and would seem to work better as a separate calendar.

Here's what I've done which may work for others.  I've scrapped the idea of using the birthday reminders function.  Instead, I created a new calendar (click the settings icon in the upper right of the icloud website) called "Birthdays-Non Contact".  Then I entered the missing bdays as all day events (repeating every year) on this calendar.  So now all my birthdays show on my main calendar....some come from the birthday field in the contacts database and the rest come from my newly created "Birthdays-Non Contact" calendar events.
Interestingly, if I choose to show only my "Birthdays-Non Contact" calendar, all my contact birthdays appear on it as well, so it gives a complete list of all my birthdays and nothing else....cool.
I should say, everything I'm talking about is what I see on the ICloud site.  My husband has the phone at the moment which I presume will show the same picture.

  • "Work" calendar shows birthdays along with the "birthday" calendar

I'm having some troubles with birthdays in iCal. I've read most of the other topics about this but none seem to have the same problem.
My problem resides in the "work" calendar. It shows all birthdays I have in my address book. My question is why, and what makes that calendar different from all the others? The problems becomes evident when I activate the "show birthdays calendar" in the pref. pane. Along with the "work" calendar i get duplicates.
What I need to do is to make the "work" calendar" stop showing birthdays in iCal. Can someone please help me with this?

You probably don't need to invoke Einstein, but you probably do need to post in the iPhone forum:

When you repost, calm down, post your issue clearly, and include basic information such as your versions of Mac OS X and iOS so that people have data one which to base suggestions.

  • What is the imap calendar? - Never saw it before...

I've used iCal any synced it with my iPhone for years now and the only calendars that where ever on either were ones I created. However, there's now something called imap (seems to have arrived around the time of iPhone OS4), which my phone and iCal seem to want to use as a default sometimes when I'm entering events. What is this thing? Why is it there? Do I need it? Can I get rid of it? Why did it suddenly appear?
    Thanks,
    Ben

You are likely using an e-mail account with an IMAP server (Gmail, Yahoo, or your own). I know mine creates a new calendar if I attempt to create a To-Do for a Mail message in one of those IMAP mail accounts. If there's nothing in the calendar, it can be safely deleted, but make sure none of your events are set to it, because they will be erased if you delete the calendar.

  • What are the differnet calendars for ical

I am new to using the iCal calendar and I am trying to understand the differeneces in "work", "home" and "calendar". I also have some calendars I am subscribed to along with a google and icloud calendar. I am not sure what the diferent calendar labels do? I have and iPad and iPhone that I try use also. This is getting crazy trying to understand where to add things based on the device I am on.
    Please help?
    Thanks

The different calendars allow you to associate an event with your personal (home) life, work life, etc., and color codes the event so you can easily see its association.

  • What is the iPad calendar?

Why is there an iPad calendar? and what is it?  I wanted just my calendar from my Outlook calendar, so this just makes redundancies and I'm not sure where it came from

    Hello Nancy
The iPad calendar you see is a default calendar that is there when the iPad was first set up. If you do not want it there, click on Calendars located on the bottom middle when in the App. Tap Edit and select the calendar, then scroll to the bottom and tap Delete Calendar.

  • What is the category "calendar"supposed to do?

    Hi,
Been meaning to ask this for ages. I guess when iCloud got up and running and we all switched over to it, I realized there was a new category in my iCal category list. One that I didn't create. It's called "Calendar". Can anyone explain what it is, why it's there, what ends up in it if I'm not actually assigning it to any of my events (since I already created the categories I use/need long ago).
    Thanks for your help.

Carolyn - but as I have the "Use F1...etc" set in Prefs I need to use the Fn key as well to do this.
Tuttle - I know the correct way to rename files in OS X, F2 is just a habit from using Windows for years (I still use it day-in/day out at work) but its action in OS X is annoying as it changes the selected file/folder so I was just wondering what use the action it performs is supposed to be for.
Seems, from what mende1 says, that it (and F3) aren't supposed to have any action and that the action it does have seems to be random rather than Apple having mapped the key to a null operation.
