What is the category "calendar"supposed to do?

Hi,
Been meaning to ask this for ages. I guess when iCloud got up and running and we all switched over to it, I realized there was a new category in my iCal category list. One that I didn't create. It's called "Calendar". Can anyone explain what it is, why it's there, what ends up in it if I'm not actually assigning it to any of my events (since I already created the categories I use/need long ago).
Thanks for your help.

Carolyn - but as I have the "Use F1...etc" set in Prefs I need to use the Fn key as well to do this.
Tuttle - I know the correct way to rename files in OS X, F2 is just a habit from using Windows for years (I still use it day-in/day out at work) but its action in OS X is annoying as it changes the selected file/folder so I was just wondering what use the action it performs is supposed to be for.
Seems, from what mende1 says, that it (and F3) aren't supposed to have any action and that the action it does have seems to be random rather than Apple having mapped the key to a null operation.

It must be a calendar you created in your iCloud account.  If you want to change the name to something else, double-click it and type the name you prefer.

  • What is the F2 key supposed to do in Finder?

I have "Use F1 etc. as standard function keys" in System Preferences->Keyboard.
What is F2 supposed to do in Finder? I have looked at numerous keyboard shortcut lists on the 'net (including Apple's own) but can find no references to it.
In Column mode if a file is highlighted, hitting F2 causes the file/folder at the bottom of the list to be highlighted instead. If a folder is highlighted, then the focus jumps to the column to the right and the file/folder at the bottom of that list is highlighted.
I'm curious because I keep hitting F2 to rename files and folders (as it does in Windows).

  • What is the Category field for and how do I edit it?

In the iTunes music list, there is a category field. However, I do not see it in the get info window. Not surprisingly, although the category field shows in my iTunes music list, none of my songs have anything entered for the category. What is this field for and how do I edit it? Thanks.

The only items I have that show a category are some iTunes U downloads.

  • What is the imap calendar? - Never saw it before...

I've used iCal any synced it with my iPhone for years now and the only calendars that where ever on either were ones I created. However, there's now something called imap (seems to have arrived around the time of iPhone OS4), which my phone and iCal seem to want to use as a default sometimes when I'm entering events. What is this thing? Why is it there? Do I need it? Can I get rid of it? Why did it suddenly appear?
    Thanks,
    Ben

You are likely using an e-mail account with an IMAP server (Gmail, Yahoo, or your own). I know mine creates a new calendar if I attempt to create a To-Do for a Mail message in one of those IMAP mail accounts. If there's nothing in the calendar, it can be safely deleted, but make sure none of your events are set to it, because they will be erased if you delete the calendar.

  • What are the differnet calendars for ical

I am new to using the iCal calendar and I am trying to understand the differeneces in "work", "home" and "calendar". I also have some calendars I am subscribed to along with a google and icloud calendar. I am not sure what the diferent calendar labels do? I have and iPad and iPhone that I try use also. This is getting crazy trying to understand where to add things based on the device I am on.
    Please help?
    Thanks

The different calendars allow you to associate an event with your personal (home) life, work life, etc., and color codes the event so you can easily see its association.

  • What is the iPad calendar?

Why is there an iPad calendar? and what is it?  I wanted just my calendar from my Outlook calendar, so this just makes redundancies and I'm not sure where it came from

    Hello Nancy
The iPad calendar you see is a default calendar that is there when the iPad was first set up. If you do not want it there, click on Calendars located on the bottom middle when in the App. Tap Edit and select the calendar, then scroll to the bottom and tap Delete Calendar.

  • What does the category "Other" refer to when viewing Macbook's storage?

Less than two months ago I purchased a Macbook Air 13 inch. I already have about 8 gb music and 14 gb of movies. But I have nearly 17 gb of things stored under the "other" category. I can't, to my knowledge, click on this and see what this category contains.
So how can I have this much stuff in this "other" category?
What does this "other" category refer to? What kind of files are stored here?
Is it a backup of some sort? And if so, don't you have to authorize a backup because I don't believe I did, but can't be certain.
I've downloaded Adobe, Quicktime, Microsoft Office, and Vuze, but aren't these stored under Apps, not the "other" category?
This seems like a lot and I don't want to take up uncessary space.
    Guidance is very much appreciated.
    Thanks!

Some of that could be photos deleted from iPhoto but still present on your machine until you empty iPhoto Trash. e-mail attachments deleted from mail, but still on your machine until you empty e-mail trash, iMovie clips deleted but still on your machine until you empty iMovie Trash (all those programs do not put files into the trash can on your desktop... they have an "integrated" trash of their own that must be emptied by the user). iTunes media files that you "deleted" but did not allow iTunes to put in the trash.

  • What is the qtorrent package supposed to be?

I was looking for qBittorrent.  I eventually found it in the AUR but before I did, I downloaded what I thought it was off of [community]
    https://www.archlinux.org/packages/comm … /qtorrent/
The upstream link is dead and I can't even get the program to work.  It just gives me this error.
    Traceback (most recent call last):
    File "/usr/bin/qtorrent", line 10, in <module>
    from qt import QApplication
RuntimeError: the sip module implements API v9.0 but the qt module requires API v8.1
I was thinking about filing a bug report if it's not just me that this is broken for but first I would like to know what exactly this package is even supposed to be.

The error may be due to https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/De … thon_paths
    It's a torrent client: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Li … #Graphical

  • What is the Inbox calendar

and how can it be deleted??? (Whenever I delete it, it reappears automatically...)
    Thanks.

This is driving me nuts too. I have two (2!) Inbox calendars - one On My Mac, and one in my MobileMe calendars. They seem to be auto-generated by Mail, because they seem to show up every time I accept a calendar invitation inside of an email. However, the Inbox that is On My Mac does NOT sync with my iPhone, and nor can I reassign the events to a different calendar. This is stupid, and I am hoping others will chime in with some advice or suggestions.

  • What is the disc utility supposed to look like with a fusion drive

I have bought a brand spanking new iMac 2013 with a fusion drive. I had a bit of a glitch with the set up of boot camp. I have taken it to the apple service centre and they reformated the drive. But I am no expert but it seem as though the computer is really slow, even slower than my 2009 iMac. can any one tell me what the fusion drive should look like in the disc utility? It appears as two seperate drives!? is this right? Can some one please help me?

  • What is the best calendar/contact manager for MacBook. I'm looking at SOHO.

I am looking for a good integrated calendar/email/contacts program. Looking at SOHO now. Does anyone have suggestions?

They all access the same data, so one's as good as another. iStat Menus is good for displaying a variety of information in the menubar for convenient access. But if all you want are temperature readings then I would select Temperature Monitor 4.98.
