Have you taken the time to determine what happens when you perform the requested actions?
If you have access to Oracle Database it should be less than a 10 minute exercise.
At a minimum, using hosted Oracle Application Express you have access to Oracle Database.
If you've done it, what were the results? There should be a telling error message.

I tried to seach for this, but nothing came up. What are the numbers I see before some posted questions.

Is there a link to the Support Community from the KB article that automatically puts the KB number in the new discussion. I couldn't find one.
Or does the person creating the discussion manually put the article number in the topic.
I now know what the number is, I just don't understand how it gets in the new discussion topic.

What is the reason for so many Drop Zones in iDVD?

Thank you Tboake and Terry for helping with my project. Now I am convinced that to create my show which mixes pictures, Text, movie clips and music, as well all the other effects, iDVD is the right way to start.
However I have a question regarding the significance of "Drop Zones". For example if I select as a theme "Reflection White" there are 8 drop zones. What exactly are we supposed to do with these drop zones?
• Do we drop all pictures of a show in one zone?
• Do we drop only one picture in each zone?
• Do we drop the movie clip in the next zone?
• Does each zone represents a different chapter in my show?
• For example if my trip involves 8 cities and I want to make a show for each city do I drop the pictures taken in one city in one zone, the second city in the next zone and so on.
It was very helpful reading "Authoring iDVD 6" by Ken Stone as suggested by you, but even though if he works out all the details he really never explains what these zones are about.

Ditto everyone's comments. The menus make for a flashy introduction to the movie itself. If you are planning to give a talk/verbal introduction, for instance, when you "show" the movie, it can help to entertain and tantalize your viewers while they wait for you to finish.
Otherwise, they seem to add a lot of rendering time if the main event is the film itself.
I usually use pretty basic ones for projects that we will not spend a long time waiting to ask to play. My kids use more interesting ones to impress their teachers at school and get better grades! For those we often add a short audio clip/song, to make it less silent as well as animated.
Also, some themes are better than others at providing you with appropriate spacing for your chapter markers. I usually experiment with few different themes to be sure that my chapter markers all fit and don't overlap, etc.

System pref- what do the display numbers mean &other questions

1. are they the choices that the mini (purchased 9/07) can "send to the display" or are they the monitor's only display choices built into the monitor (like 1024x 768)
2. whats the advantage if any of a widescreen LCD display
3. will any "cheap- ie $200-300 LCD viewsonic. samsung, HP monitor work with my new mini if the monitor has a dvi or vga plug?

Great questions edwardh1. I'll tell you what I think are the answers.
1) The mini does contain several pre-installed resolutions, so it is aware of several "standard" resolutions without any reliance on a display driver. However, whether or not the mini makes some or all of these resolutions available to the attached display will depend on how the mini "detects" the display.
2) Widescreen is much better for modern digital media. For example, DVD playback on a widescreen is much nicer than on a conventional screen. It's also nice to have a little extra width when using certain programs that have tool palettes. You can stick the palettes off to the side where they don't interfere with your work area. And if you go really big, like a 24" monitor, you can put two pages side-by-side, which can result in a real boost in efficiency with certain tasks.
3) As to whether any monitor will work with a mini, in theory the answer is yes. But if you hang out on these discussion boards long enough you will see that the road is full of potholes. Apple, as has been the case for a number of years, is always on the leading edge of new technologies, with Windows in a trailing position. If you want examples, think of USB, FIrewire, Bluetooth, DVI...the list goes on and on. Macs use a modern plug-and-play architecture for delivering the display driver to the host (Mac). Windows can perform this trick, but they also have a legacy system where the user installs the display driver (usually from a CD ROM) or else a wizard installs the driver from the internet. The problem with old habits on Windows is that they die hard. So even though modern displays for the most part correctly implement plug-and-play drivers, which in theory Windows does support, there are plenty of cases where the display manufacturers blow it and fail to do a good job of it. Instead they ship the Windows driver on a CD and call it a day. So you can be 90+% confident of a good result when buying a non-Apple monitor, but by no means is it guaranteed.
4) This question is very similar to your first question. Yes, the mini will have pre-installed several standard timings. I am sure 1024 x 768 would be on that list.
My final comment would be don't worry too much about buying a third-party display. Go for what you want with the confidence it will most likely work just fine.

ICloud - What is the advantage? A few questions...

First off... I have watched the video, I have read some of the literature. I'm sure some of the questions I ask will live somewhere in
writing but I wanted to get a personal take from people on a few of these issues.
Through this entire process... I've been trying to figure out what iCloud offers me? From what I can tell, there are no aditions and
instead... they are deleting three services I use extensively:
-iDisk
-Gallery
-iWeb
Am I understanding it correctly that these three services will simply not exist going forward?
If I am... can I ask those who use these regularly, what options are you going to use in the future? I have used
iDisk for my business quite a bit. Any recommendations on replacements for these?
Another common question here probably, but I have an iTunes account with one ID.... and a Mac Mail account with another.
The tween have never met. Now, with setting up iCloud, I'm trying to figure out what strategy to use to merge these two. (Even though
I'm told that's impossible?) How do I not lose my purchases.... if I plan to keep my Mac Mail ID as my main ID?
As for mail... I'm reading a lot of people having problems after making the iCloud move. If Mobile Me is going away.... does that

It seems we were led to believe the change over from MobileMe would be simple and easy but this forum has given us a preview of a number of nightmare scenarios awating some poor souls. I am going to wait at least 6 months before considering iCloud conversion and hopefully someone can create a roadmap for us all to follow depending on the individual's combination of Apple, Mail, and iTunes IDs.
I have collected various comments regarding the .mac and .me addresses and IDs which I believe I now understand. I am passing them on to you in case it can be of some help. Sorry I couldn't answer your main questions.

Apple has stated that both mac.com as well as me.com addresses will continue to work for both your Apple id and your email address.You may have a temporary issue (?) but your Mac.com address will be fine.
Some Apple IDs, like those ending in @mac.com or @me.com, can't be changed.
[email protected] and [email protected] AppleIDs are the same account if you've continually been paying for MobileMe since it was .Mac.
If you've used the same @me.com or @mac.com AppleID for iTunes as well as MobileMe, then it should all be a single iCloud/iTunes account.
Only AppleID's that end in @me.com or @mac.com can be moved to iCloud. If you enter any other AppleID you are creating a new iCloud account with a new @me.com email address.
@mac.com and @me.com are the same internally to Apple. Your @mac.com existed before @me.com, so the @me.com is an alias of @mac.com. The latter is your REAL email address.
You have a me.com account (which is linked to my mac.com account), you can sign in to iCloud using either one of the accounts.

Hi,
I recently bought a Creative Webcam stamped "Vista", model number VF0330.
Linux user for years now, I'm not too worried when a device doesn't work immediately, a few hours of Googling usually sorts me out.
However, this webcam is giving me a bit of a headache as it seems to be fairly new so nobody has written a driver for it yet.
I'm willing to help in developing the driver but I need some basic info for this, is anybody in here able to provide such info? I know I could take the camera appart and figure it out, but I'm a softie with rather clumsy fingers when it comes to tiny very sensiti've pieces...

Very simple, export them as VCARDS then drag them into Address Book. Assuming your PC's mail program can export more than one at a time the whole process should take less than 10 minutes. We aren't PC people here so you need to look into the mail program you're using on it and look for the Export command. Almost surely it can export to VCARD. Once you have the VCARDS, open Address Book and drag them onto the Address Book and you're done.
