What is the correct question? Apple Software Update Service, Win 7

I can't get updates. Win 7. I cannot connect to the apple software update service, check my internet settings- is the message I am getting. Which particular settings are they referring to? I have allowed apple through my firewall, I have allowed all apple programs to run at start up. I don't know what else I can do, or where the settings are they want me to check?

Use a free utilty such as Download AppCleaner for Mac - Uninstall your apps easily. MacUpdate.com
Just dragging apps to the Trash does not unintsall all the associated files. AppCleaner can do that for you.

Upgrading to Snow Leopard, Lion, or Mountain Lion
You can upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99. To access the App Store you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or later installed.
    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You must purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mountain Lion if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s MobileMe service; fees and
               terms apply.
    Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mountain Lion, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service - this includes international calling numbers. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
    Upgrading to Mountain Lion
To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase and download Mountain Lion from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
OS X Mountain Lion - System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
             7. Xserve (Early 2009)
         Are my applications compatible?
See App Compatibility Table - RoaringApps.
Am I eligible for the free upgrade?
See Apple - Free OS X Mountain Lion upgrade Program.
For a complete How-To introduction from Apple see Upgrade to OS X Mountain Lion.

Read this topic its about them: /discussions/board/message?board.id=swupdate&message.id=24327#M24327
USB Mass Storage is the possibility to use your phone as a simple flash memory without the need of any additional drivers and apps, just plug it to you PC and write/read/copy the data.
UPnP is a something like a Wi-Fi protocol which allows u to view you images or listen to music on a compatible devices (PC, TV, music centers etc) over the air.

  • Change the language of Apple Software Update ASU for Windows

    Hi,
I'm leaving in Korea and while having my whole computer in English and even iTunes and Quicktime set in English, the Software Updater is in Korean (which is not very useful as I can't really work my way through it).
_I know_ there has been a post about not solving the problem but avoiding it by changing the language settings, but I still need to keep Korean as a language for non-unicode in my settings as I am still working with some Korean software and else my whole display is just filled with question marks. And trust me, Korean and GoogleTranslate is better than just question marks...
So, any idea ? Or maybe some developper passing by willing to add a little menu or at least give the change to download the updater in English ?
Anyway, thanks for any help you may be willing to give !

but ASU re-installs automatically the language files after reboot when I launch the program
(mutter mutter) My fault, sorry. I assumed that ASU wasn't using advertised shortcuts. We've still got a shot at this, I think.
Try deleting all but the en.lproj folders again.
Now head back into the main Apple Software Update program files folder. Right-click on SoftwareUpdate.exe and select "Create shortcut". Rename the shortcut as you please ("English ASU" perhaps?) and drag it out onto the desktop.
Reboot, and now try launching ASU by doubleclicking on the "English ASU" (or whatever) shortcut. Does it launch in English this time?
(With an advertised shortcut, before launching the program a check is run against the installation database to check to see that all the program files and registry entries that ought to be present are indeed present. If there are some missing, a repair install of the program will run in order to replace the missing files and whatnot. That's what caught us last time. But if we launch her from an ordinary shortcut, then we should be able to avoid the repair install replacing all the missing language resources.)

  • I cannot install itunes 10.5 on my XP laptop, the error says that it cannot create the folder for apple software update as it already exists but there is no sign of the folder, any new ideas?

    thanks

I was finally able to install this POS.
    Here is what I did:
I tried to install an even older version than 1.5
I went to filehippo.com and downloaded the oldest version I could find there which was the version 1.0.7
Here is the link to that page: http://www.filehippo.com/download_adobe_air/3853/
Thank God that old version installed on my computer.
After that the installation of current version (2.5) of this POS worked as well.

  • Apple Software Update 2.1.3

Looked for a definitive answer but found none. I'm a Mac user who has to run Windows 7 under Parallels for a  non-Apple program I need for my work. It all runs like clockwork (well, better, as it doesn't need winding up). Like many other people, I've received this ASU notification - but under Windows ("This update is recommended for all users and improves the compatibility of Apple Software Update for Windows").
The weird thing is, if I invoke ASU from the Mac OS, it tells me my software's all up-to-date.
Is this "Windows" update genuine? What does it really do, and should I ignore it?
    Thanks.

The weird thing is, if I invoke ASU from the Mac OS, it tells me my software's all up-to-date.
Nothing weird about it.  It's telling you the software on your Mac is up to date.  ASU for Windows is an entire separate app, designed to update Apple software that runs on Windows.

  • Apple software update, reset to Apple?

I have several Macs which look to the local server for Apple Software Updates.
I would like to reset them to look directly to Apple for these updates.
    I've tried deleting com.apple.softwareupdate.plist files
I've tried in terminal using the default command.
I've tried turning off the Apple Software Update service on the server.
But they still try to get the updates from the local servers.
    Am I missing something?
    Any advise would be welcomed.

How did you apply these settings in the first place? Are you using the Workgroup Manager application? If this is the case, the CatalogURL: gets applied at every boot. You can check with this terminalcommand:
    mcxquery -computerOnly -computer 'yourcomputername'
with yourcomputername replaced by the actual name of this particular machine. Look for a row that has "com.apple.SoftwareUpdate" in it. in this case, you have to change the Update server URL in Workgroup Manager

  • Mac OS X Lion Software Update service does not reflect 10.7.1 update

    Hi all,
I recently upgraded my Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard server to 10.7.
Everything went ok, and the server tools are installed and working.
Last week, Apple released the 10.7.1 update, but this update is not reflected in the Lion Server's Software Update service.
Every time I start the catalog sync (either in the Server Admin app, or through Terminal), the sync process completes correctly without any errors, but the latest 10.7.1 update is not listed in the available updates.
Did I miss something there ?
Thanks in advance for your help,

    Additional info:
I followed KBase art HT4771, and made the following changes:
    1. Stopped the Software Update Service and quit Server Admin app
    2. Updated /etc/swupd/swupd.plist to begin hosting OS X Lion software updates by typing the following Terminal command:
    sudo /usr/libexec/PlistBuddy -c 'add :otherCatalogs:2 string index-lion-snowleopard-leopard.merged-1.sucatalog' /etc/swupd/swupd.plist
    3. Updated /etc/swupd/swupd.conf to allow OS X Lion computers to receive updates as follows:
         "RewriteCond %{HTTP_USER_AGENT} Darwin/11
         RewriteRule ^/index\.sucatalog$ /index-leopard-snowleopard.merged-1.sucatalog"
    became
         "RewriteCond %{HTTP_USER_AGENT} Darwin/11
         RewriteRule ^/index\.sucatalog$ /index-lion-snowleopard-leopard.merged-1.sucatalog"
After completing this and restarted the Software Update Service, the Server's Software Update Service could find all updates, including Mac OS X 10.7.1 and more Lion updates (Multi-lingual voices, Server Essentials, ... ).
The issue is now that the client computers cannot find the Software Update server, though it is properly connected, regardless the selected catalog in /Library/Preferences/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.
I am now considering to erase all updates from server, delete all config files, and restart service from scratch.
Any other idea before I start the big deletion ?

  • What are the differences between the Caching and the Software Update Services

New to working with OS X Server and am confused about the differences between the Caching Service and the Software Update Service...it seems to me that they overlap in that i) the Caching Service updates OS X software, iOS software and any apps purchased from the app store while ii) the Software Update service updates OS X software.
If the above is correct they why would one run both Services?  I would think that one would run the Caching Service and call it a day!
And while on the subject, what about caching and pushing third party apps like MS Office?

    Linc Davis wrote:
The simple answer is that you almost certainly don't need the Software Update service. Just use the Caching service. Neither one works with content that doesn't come from Apple.
Appreciate the response but could you please explain the difference between the two as that is the one item that remains unanswered.
    Thanks,
