What is the correct sequence preset to choose?

Now a days I shoot AVCHD but I have video from years past that is from several different
Video cameras, on my hard drive, just waiting until I get around to editing it. How do I
determine which of those many presets that are available to choose from, that are offered when you
start a new project, is the right one?
I seem to remember someone telling me once that if you just hit the "OK" button without selecting anything, the software will assign the
correct preset to the project. I don't know if that is correct or not.

You could also right click on a clip and "Create New Sequence From Clip"

Can someone please help me figure out the best settings to use in order to obtain the best resolution in FCE4 for a television show that is going to be sent out on full size Sony DVcam tapes, with 4:3 aspect ration and audio output at 48kHz? I am currently working with mixed media sources in Final Cut Express, and I am wondering what the best settings (presets and preferences) are, in order to provide the HIGHEST resolution possible, while putting the least amount of strain on my computer system?
I am importing mini DV-standard definition footage and still photos (from Canon Rebel camera, HD CMOS Canon camcorder that records in 1440x1080 at 48 kHz, and cell phone photos). For voiceovers I use the tools in FCE.
I use Voltaic (which I use thanks to recommendations from Apple discussion boards, love it!) to convert the footage from the HD CMOS-Canon HD VIXIA (HG 20) camera, and then I am using print to video to output onto Sony DVcam tapes (full size). This is for delivery for a television network that broadcasts in Standard Definition, so I need to produce the highest resolution and best quality possible that also puts the least amount of stress on my computer system.
If anyone has any recommendations, help, or sources that can help me answer this question I would be greatly appreciative.

This is happening because your video clip properties do not match your sequence settings. This is always a problem when you try to insert video from multiple camcorders/cameras (that use different video codecs, frame sizes & rates) in a single sequence.
It will help a lot if you provide more specifics - what FCE easy setup did you use to create your sequence? For your DV footage, are you using standard 4:3 DV or anamorphic 16:9 DV clips?
If you plan to export to standard def (DV/DVCAM) and are mixing DV from a miniDV camcorder, stills, cell phone images and AVCHD then I would suggest that you use the DV NTSC easy setup for your sequence. Use MPEG Streamclip or similar utility to convert your non-DV video (your AVCHD video) to QuickTime/Apple DV-DVCPRO NTSC. Then all your video will match your sequence settings. Yes, you will have to crop the AVCHD footage to 4:3 and you can do that in MPEG Streamclip.

What is the correct sequence to link 3 Airport Express units in a WDS?

I have 3 AE units set up in a WDS. I currently have unit #1 as a main base. Unit #2 is an extended base station. Unit #3 is a remote base station. I have unit #1 connected to the iMac for the internet on the first floor via an ethernet connection. It is linked to units #2 & 3. Unit #2 is about 60' away on the first floor & linked to unit #3 as a relay. Unit #3 is about 18' below unit #2 in the basement and about 75' from unit #1 & connected to the HP notebook via ethernet. The connections between both computers are fine, thought a bit slow. All three AE units have the audio port active to stream iTunes. Most of the time, the audio is great! However, (and this is the problem....finally) when I am at the HP computer & unit #3, the audio signal drops out for booth units #2 & 3 if I turn as certain way in my chair. I guess when I am in a certain place in the basement, I am blocking the signal (weird....). I also noticed this as well sometimes in the stairwell to the basement. All 3 units have the following wireless settings: Multicast Rate = 1...Interference Robustness = disabled...Transmitter Power = 100%. I have tried the Multicast rate @ 2 & 5.5, with the Interference Robustness enabled and disabled. I didn't notice any significant difference. Would it help to take unit #3 out of the direct link of unit #1? (Let unit #1 link to unit #2 and unit #2 link to unit #3.) Any other helpful hints to try would be appreciated. Thanks!!!

Perhaps but probably not.
The fact remains that RF signals can be blocked and redirected. Therefore physically moving things around can affect wireless performance. For more ideas, see KB 58543, AirPort: Potential sources of interference.

I am an occasional DB user and at the moment need to update about 1000+ records so that a certain column gets a unique value.
So I thought that I would use a variable for this.
I then built this kind of SQL statement for just a small subset of the records:

Anyway I also tried this one:

Also another question that I would like to ask is that are variables that are used in ad hoc queries also called 'bind variables'?

When you "Save as" and you select the "compatibility with" for older versions, the document will be compatible with whatever version you choose, be it 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, or higher. If you want to "test it", you'll need a computer with Reader 8 installed, but I've never seen the "Save as" make something that was incompatible with the version it was saving for.

What are the best sequence settings for anamorphic?

sorry for the long explanation....
i have a project that was shot 16:9. my question is what is the best sequence setting to use so that when i export it to tape it will look right on a regular TV? on the FCP viewer it looks right with either setting. the difference is that if i choose a regular sequence setting ("anamorphic" unchecked), the video clips need to be rendered (it's green, but it will limit my ability to add effects and watch them without rendering). therefore i would prefer to use the anamorphic setting that does not need rendering. However, when i export the movie it comes out stretched (and only works with TV that has an anamorphic setting).
Can i edit the whole project with the anamorphic sequence setting and in the end copy it to a regular sequence without it becoming stretched?
i tried this on a little test sequence and it appeared to work, but i'm afraid that if the project becomes elaborate... well, last time i tried editing an anamorphic sequence (a while back, on FCP 2) i had to redo my whole film cut by cut with a regular sequence setting and then render it anamorphic so that it will look right.... it simply didn't work to just cut and paste the project onto a new regular sequence (could this have happened because i had many effects?). it came out stretched as it would when you merely uncheck the "anamorphic" box. has this been solved in the newer versions?

Your settings -- between the Compressor, Pixel Aspect Ratio and Frame Size -- are oil-and-water.
If this is going to YouTube (meaning not going to be viewed on traditional TVs) and it's mainly Photos, try using this:
Frame Size: 1280x720
Aspect Ratio: HDTV 720p
Pixel Aspect Ratio: Square
Editing Timebase: 29.97
Compressor: Motion JPEG A
Quality: 100% (though in a lot of cases, you could drag this down to about 75-80% and quality will not suffer)
Unfortunately, you won't get much (if any) real-time effects. Unless, of course, you're on FCP 6 or later, where you can use a ProRes compressor instead. But with your signature saying 10.4. something, I wasn't sure if it was safe to assume that. The Motion-JPEG setting should work in all versions.

What's the correct recovery process once upgraded to Windows 10? (No OneKey Recovery)

I have a Z50-70 laptop that came preinstalled with Windows 8.1. It is a OEM version, with the product key stored in the Bios. It is a UEFI install. It currently has OneKey recovery installed, which, if I understand correctly (I haven't actually used it yet), allows you to recover from a recovery partition in the hard disk. This isn't a "fresh" Windows 8.1, but an image provided by Lenovo that takes you back to the state the laptop was in when originally purchased (will have all Lenovo software and drivers preinstalled). According to the official Lenovo upgrade guide, before performing the Windows 10 upgrade, we should uninstall basically all Lenovo software, including OneKey recovery and it won't work in Windows 10. Questions: 1. What's the correct process to recover the system from within Windows 10 if something goes badly wrong? I think Windows 10 has a built in "reset your computer" functionality in Settings which I assume is what we would be expected to use. Would this take me to:a. A completely fresh install of Windows 10?b. An image created during the 8.1 to 10 upgrade, containing all my files etc at the point of performing the upgrade?c. Or would it use the Lenovo recovery partition (that OneKey Recovery would have used if it was compatible) and take me back to Windows 8.1?d. Something else? 2. Once I've performed the upgrade and Windows 10 has successfully activated, I believe I could create a bootable media with the Windows 10 ISO, boot into it and install a completely clean installation of Windows 10 and it would activate. I could theoretically do as many fresh installs from the bootable media as I want, so long as initially I did the upgrade (not a clean install), and the laptop hardware doesn't change. Is that correct?2a. If so, during the first clean bootable media install process, would I be safe to compeletly remove the Lenovo recovery partition entirely, and from that point onwards rely on Windows 10's "Reset your PC" functionality? Could I could even just use reinstalling Windows 10 from bootable media again as a way of recovering? If I understand correctly, it doesn't make sense to keep the recovery partition it if it can't be used within Windows 10. I think it I had a regular desktop PC with a retail version of Windows, then all the above would be fine. The added complications here are that 1. I have no Windows 8.1 product key (it's handled alll by the BIOS), and 2. I have no recovery disks. I want to make sure I understand everything fully before upgrading, and potentially doing a clean install using bootable media, so that I don't end up messing something up and ending up with either a laptop that I can't recover, of a Windows installation that isn't activated. Update for anyone else reading: I just uninstalled OneKey recovery on my Windows 8.1 installation, in preparation for the upgrade. So as far as Windows is concerned, OneKey Recovery has been completely removed. The good news is that I then shut down the laptop, pressed the novo button, selected "System Recovery" and I was still greeted with the OneKey recovery program where I could choose to restore from factory image, or a custom image. Therefore I assume that once I've upgraded to Windows 10, I will always have the option to restore to factory Windows 8.1 if I ever need/want to. The confusion seems to be that the OneKey recovery software is actually two separate softwares: 1. OneKey Recovery #1 is installed within the hidden recovery partition that is responsible for performing a system restore from the image of your choosing - either the factory image or a custom image created by OneKey recovery software #2. OneKey Recovery software #1 is always accessible via the Novo button. 2. OneKey Recovery #2 is installed on the Windows 8.1 installation, that is responsible for creating custom system images. You can also choose to restore the system from here, but as far as I can tell, this just restarts the computer and loads up OneKey software #1, which allows you to perform the recovery. OneKey Recovery #2 is the software that Lenovo told us to uninstall before upgrading to Windows 10. However, uninstalling OneKey Recovery #2 will leave OneKey Recovery software #1 in tact.As far as I can tell, this means that uninstalling OneKey Recovery #2 means that we lose the ability to create custom system images, but we retain the ability to restore from a system image. Can anyone confirm that I've understood correctly, and that what I've said above is indeed the case? I'm still a little unsure about what Windows 10's built in "Reset this PC" will do though - whether it will use Lenovo's recovery partition or perform a clean Windows 10 install.

Also make sure that for any of your email accounts you set them up to fetch, not push. My tech person set them all to have the email servers push data to the phone. The new iphone4s antenna is extremely strong so it will continually try to access stuff that is pushed–***** a lot of battery life doing this. It makes it worse if you have exchange 2010 accounts. Something about changes made to exchange really suck battery life from devices that access such accounts.

I have a working instance of a rich client calendar. I generated the view with the required fields (start, stop, provider, ...), put it into the App Module, and dragged it onto a JSF page to create a calendar.
Next I created an activityScope object in a class called CalendarBean (no inheritance)

As I understand it, I need to do something with the getTags() method of the underlying CalendarActivity class, but I'm not quite sure how to do that.
Took a stab at creating a class, CalendarActivityBean, that extended CalendarActivity, and pointed all the CalendarActivity references I had to the new class, but it didn't seem to fire (in debug), and I got into trouble, when inserting records, with

The whole format thing has been introduced in 1.5. The tutorial also states it's been "updated to 1.5.".
That's all I've got to say for I don't know how you can format a PrintWriter, let alone a PrintStream, prior to 1.5. I'm not really sure there is any way. Any "legacy way", that is. There almost certainly are third-party API which achieve similar results.

What is the correct sequence preset to choose?
