What is the current sampling rate for iTunes store purchases

As a dinosaur, I still like getting my music on CD's (and, in fact, I still have quite an LP collection). But even CD's are becoming harder to come by these days and I have found that with the right sampling and codec (256KB/vbr AAC), my lossy compressed iPod music is audibly no different than the original CDs ...at least as far as my critical ears can tell. Which brings me to my question:
What is the sampling and codec used for downloads from the iTunes Store? I have read in older posts ('05/'06) it is 128KB/AAC but then I recently read iTunes downloads will be non-DRM encoded and come in at 256KB/AAC.
Appreciate any insght into this as I am really enjoying the "Record Store" on my desktop.
Thanks,
Stegasaurus

All itunes music has been 256/ non drm for years now.

  • What is the best scrubbing rate for youtube?

what is the best scrubbing rate for youtube?

Ummm... can you elaborate? why do you think a 1-pass would be better? Before i go through another 5 - 6 hours of compression, I would like to understand a little bit better... 2 0r 3 word answers aren't going to help me at all. Sorry.

You have about three thousand pages of manuals, why do you think we can shrink that information down? Compression is really difficult to understand and to control. There are dozens of Web sites you can explore or you could look at amazon.com and buy yourself some training systems. If you are going to be doing a lot of compression and encoding, you will learn it the same way everyone else does, slowly. It's often easier and faster and therefore cheaper to pay a service to do your encoding. Spend a few hours reading the Compressor forum.
Consider that you don't need to waste mjuch time rendering entire projects. Just assemble a short collection of problem scenes and use different settings till you get something you like. To confuse things even further, encoding results are totally subjective and a terrible compromise. You give up image quality to save time encoding or to gain program length. Youinvest tons of set up and encoding time to gain control the image quality. And you must process the audio separately to get the best use of your delivery media's capacity.

  • What are the best import settings for iTunes - AAC 160 / AAC 192 / MP3??

Hi I originally imported all my treasured CDs to iTunes several years ago, and they've served me well (AAC 128 - default setting) but in recent times hard-drive sizes have trebled and my much loved iTunes Library has not been updated.
    I am thinking of re-importing all of my original CDs - as I think now that hard-drive space would allow for a higher quality but at the same time I do not want to fill my hard-drive completely with music - hence my question;
WHAT ARE THE BEST IMPORT SETTINGS CONSIDERING SIZE AND QUALITY?
(I know this has probably been asked a million times, but I did a search and nothing came up that answered my Q - also all the answers that came up in Google search where dated 2003/ 2004 - a little out-dated me thinks!!)

Personally I've started ripping everything Apple Lossless. That way I hope I never have to rip again.
I used to rip 320 mp3. I couldn't tell the difference between 320 mp3 and lossless, but, one day I might be able to - big maybe. But since disk price is not likely to go up, I figured I'd rip lossless from now on "just in case."
Probably few, if any, people could tell the difference between 256 AAC and lossless (I've done it at 192, but never at 256, and I have not bothered trying again recently - there might be a song out there where I could hear the difference, hence ripping lossless from now on - my time costs more than disk space . . .)
256 AAC is a pretty safe bet, unless you need mp3 compatibility, then use 256 (or 320) mp3.

  • What is the maximum bit rate for a short NTSC standard def DVD?

I have about 30 minutes of content from FCP that I want to put on a DVD.
At first I tried iDVD and had problems with burning (although I did somehow make one DVD). So I built the project on DVD SP and made a DVD. However, the iDVD version looked much better. I checked out the file sizes and saw that there was 2 gigs on iDVD and only 1.6 DVD SP. Then I discovered the encoding options on DVD SP and I was curious what is the recommended average and maximum bit rate should be for the highest quality, yet still works in most DVD players?
    Thanks.

The rate is not based on running time.

7.2 - 8.0 seems to be the general consensus for discs from computers. I play more conservative for the reasson listed in that link

  • How do I find out what is the current data rate on my wifi card?

I have a macbook pro running OSX 10.8.2. When I go to system profiler I see that the card is in 802.11n mode, but how do I find out the current rate? There is a 'Transmit Rate' parameter but there is no unit next to it.

The data rate depends on if it is using the 2.4 GHz band or the 5 GHz band, both are possible with n-protocol unless you have limited your wireless to only one band.  The data rate in 5 GHz is double that in 2.4 GHz.  Also, you have to know what the protocol of the network is, the AirPort card can only transmit at the rate of the network, so if you are on a g-protocol router, that is the fastest rate you can see.
And then interference, attenuation, etc. will drop that rate.

  • What is the best burn software for itunes?

I have Roxio software package but it won't read some of my songs on itunes. Is there a prefered software for itunes burning?

One of the best softwares for this is iDVD, but that is no longer included with iLife. You can still buy the retail version of iLife 11 at various online resellers. It does not produce true HD although the quality of my home movies is outstanding IMHO. If you want the closest to HD you can do then you can buy Roxio Toast along with the extra HD Bluray plugin; I tried it and could not tell the difference once I played the DVD on my HDTV though, but I am farsighted and sit quite a bit farther away from it than others. I don't believe Roxio offers a free trial - I use it to burn after giving my project the final touch in iDVD with its customizable menus and themes.

  • Audiobooks section in library for iTunes Store Purchased Audiobooks only?

Apple's had a great idea separating Audiobooks from other content but why when I click on it does it only show Audiobooks I bought from the iTunes store? I have audiobooks from other sources and all have the genre "Audiobook" but they aren't shown.
The Music section shows ALL of my music content, not just music I bought from iTunes; why isn't the same thing true for audiobooks?
This makes little sense and really limits the usefulness of dividing the libary by file type. Why? Because non iTunes store audiobook content remains listed under music no matter what you do.

You may have to change the file type to m4b. I only recently discovered this - check out this site for instructions.

  • HT201371 Can I use touch id for iTunes Store purchases without having a phone passcode turned on?

I really don't want a passcode but I love not having to enter my complex password on the small keyboard.  Why does this option have to be linked to a passcode?  Doesn't make a lot of sense.

    From the article:
You can set up Touch ID in iOS Setup Assistant or by tapping Settings > Touch ID & Passcode. To set up Touch ID, you must first set a passcode. Touch ID is designed to minimize the input of your passcode, but you need a passcode for additional security validation, such as enrolling new fingerprints.
So yes, that's how it's designed. You must have a passcode, though as long as you understand the caveats:
In addition, you will need to enter your passcode to unlock your iPhone in these conditions:
    After restarting your iPhone 5s
When more than 48 hours have elapsed from the last time you unlocked your iPhone 5s
To enter the Touch ID & Passcode setting
    and
You can't use Touch ID for purchases if Require Password in Settings > General > Restrictions is set to Immediately.
you should be able to use Touch ID without needing your passcode. If none of those circumstances is true and you're still being asked for your passcode to make a purchase from the iTunes Store, it would seem that something is amiss with your iPhone.

  • Unknown Album for iTunes Store purchase

I purchased an album a couple of days ago, after I updated to iTunes 11.0.1.  When the album downloaded, it shows up in my iTunes library as "unknown album", even though the album title is shown in the iTunes Store receipt.  I was hoping to just re-download the album but apparently that is not possible.  I have searched the help web site but can't find an answer.  Can anyone help?

Take a look at this document: http://www.apple.com/itunes/contentproviders/
And this article talks about another way: http://www.macworld.com/article/56813/2007/03/tunecore.html

  • What is the direct download link for iTunes 11.4 32 Bit for Windows?

Everytime I click to download itunes from the main page (www.apple.com/itunes/download) , the download doesn't start, just brings me to the thank you downloading page after clicking DOWNLOAD ITUNES NOW button. But if i get the direct link, i could enter it into my address bar, the download would initiate. Does anyone know how to fix this on either my computer, or simply know the address where it is located so I could get iTunes 11.4 for my ipad mini with IOS 8.0.2 on it?

Sorry it doesn't download in 15 min.  I'm on a slow connection (5Mbit).
If I have a direct link I can get it with a download manager in about 4 hours for a 5GB download.
iTunes and app store takes 2 days because the bandwidth is throttled to 10% of the available bandwidth by osx.  App store and iTunes will time out and it is impossible to recover/resume downloads with apple software - apple forces you to download from the beginning after it times out.
Apple software for OSX and IOS are terrible for downloading large files on a slow network connection.  I don't think its reasonable to have to leave a computer running 24-48 hours to download something that can be downloaded in 4 hours.

  • What is the current operating system on a Mac laptop?

I'm shopping for a Mac laptop...what is the current operating system for a mac laptop?

Mavericks is no longer available from Apple — unless you purchase an older refurb unit from Apple that still has it installed. Yosemite 10.10.0 (now 10.10.2) superseded it. Mavericks came with my May 2014 MacBook Air, and I had no issues with Mavericks, or applications on it. I subsequently upgraded to Yosemite, because I prefer to stay current — and have had no issues with Yosemite either.
