What is the data type for time and what to insert

Hi there
i had two attributes in a table called start_time and end_time and i want to insert time into these attrbutes e.g 10:00 and 11:00
How do i do that
what is oracle's built-in type for time???
adn how do i insert values in the table(i.e the format)
thanks

There is not Oracle type that has just a time. The DATE and TIMESTAMP data types include both the date and the time (TIMESTAMP has millisecond resolution and has optional timezone support). If what you're really interested is a time interval (i.e. 1 hour), there are some INTERVAL data types.
You have a lot of options for how to specify dates and timestamps along with format masks.

  • Query regarding the data type for fetcing records from multiple ODS tables

    hey guys;
    i have a query regarding the data type for fetcing records from multiple ODS tables.
    if i have 2 table with a same column name then in the datatype under parent row node i cant add 2 nodes with the same name.
    can any one help with some suggestion.

    Hi Mudit,
    One option would be to go as mentioned by Padamja , prefxing the table name to the column name or another would be to use the AS keyoword in your SQL statement.
    AS is used to rename the column name when data is being selected from your DB.
    So, the query  Select ename as empname from emptable will return the data with column name as empname.

  • What is the data type for the Data Dashboard XY Graph?

    Hey all,
    I am playing with the new Data Dashboard (!!) on my iPad 2 and am having trouble setting up the shared variables that host data to the XY Graph.
    On my PC, in my Project (inside of a variable library) I have set up shared variables for all of the other controls/indicators available in the app; They all work great. However, I have not been able to identify the data type that is for the XY Graph in Data Dashboard. Of course, inside LabVIEW, I use a cluster of 2 arrays; this is not an available data type that I can select while creating a new variable on the hosting side. I have even gone so far as to create a custom control from my XYGraph in LabVIEW and then creating the data type "From Custom Control..." with no success.
    What gives? Am I missing something obvious? Thanks for the help!!
    Tom
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Great question, Aerogoob.
    The XY graph can be bound to a 1d array of "points", where each point is a cluster of two numerics (X and Y). To create a shared variable of this type, you can set the data type to "From Custom Control..." in the shared variable properties dialog. Of course, first you'll have to build the custom control of the correct type: array of cluster of two numerics.
    If any of that doesn't make sense, please post back and we can walk you through it in more detail.
    Also, just for completeness, the chart indicator can be bound to a scalar numeric or to an array of numerics. The graph indicator can only be bound to an array of numerics.

  • What should be the data type for a field in ztable?

    i am desing a ztable , wht should be the datatype for a field if i want to enter values like -1.5 and -2.5 , negative values with decimals what should be the data type???

    declare as P type. TYPE P DECIMALS 1
    Type P data allows digits after the decimal point. The number of decimal places is generic, and is determined in the program. The value range of type P data depends on its size and the number of digits after the decimal point. The valid size can be any value from 1 to 16 bytes. Two decimal digits are packed into one byte, while the last byte contains one digit and the sign. Up to 14 digits are allowed after the decimal point. The initial value is zero. When working with type P data, it is a good idea to set the program attribute Fixed point arithmetic.Otherwise, type P numbers are treated as integers.
    You can use type P data for such values as distances, weights, amounts of money, and so on.

  • How To... Change the Data Type for a SELECT-OPTIONS at run time.

    Hello,
    I am trying to restrict the values available for entry into a SELECT-OPTIONS at run time depending on user input.
    The logic is as follows. The user has two input fields. A PARAMETER field which has the type RSDIOBJNM and allows them to choose an InfoObject. And the user has a SELECT-OPTIONS field to allow them to select the Characteristic values for that InfoObject.
    I would like the following example to be possible:
    The user enters 0MATERIAL into the PARAMETER. When the user clicks on the SELECT-OPTIONS control code will derive a list of possible options the user can enter in the SELECT-OPTIONS. In this case only values found in the master data or at least no values greater than 18 characters.
    I have looked at the following function module SELECT_OPTIONS_RESTRICT and this do not appear to be helpful as they only restrict on the signs allowed for the values (unless I misunderstand, it is a complex function module!).
    The code I have so far is (thus the user enters a InfoObject into p_char1 and the select options so_char1 should only accept active values of that InfoObject):
    declaration of variables for user interface
      DATA c_char(32) TYPE c.
    declaration of count variable
      DATA i_count TYPE i.
    declaration of user interface
      SELECTION-SCREEN BEGIN OF BLOCK a1 WITH FRAME TITLE text-001.
        PARAMETERS: p_ipack TYPE RSLOGDPID.
      SELECTION-SCREEN END OF BLOCK a1.
      SELECTION-SCREEN BEGIN OF BLOCK b1 WITH FRAME TITLE text-002.
        PARAMETERS: p_char1 TYPE RSDIOBJNM.
        SELECT-OPTIONS: so_char1  for c_char NO INTERVALS.
        PARAMETERS: p_char2 TYPE RSDIOBJNM.
        SELECT-OPTIONS: so_char2  for c_char NO INTERVALS.
        PARAMETERS: p_char3 TYPE RSDIOBJNM.
        SELECT-OPTIONS: so_char3  for c_char NO INTERVALS.
      SELECTION-SCREEN END OF BLOCK b1.
    Is what I am trying to do possible???
    Thanks for any help. Ross.

    You really want to restrict possible values of a select-option based on another field, not change the length of type of the select-option field, right?
    Here is what you do:  Code a custom F4 value help for the select-option at event AT SELECTION-SCREEN ON VALUE REQUEST FOR..  The first thing you do here is read the value of the parameter field (p_ipack in your example).  You can use function module DYNP_VALUES_READ.  Based on this value, you can propose values for the select-option fields.  Note that the use can still enter whatever s(he) wishes in to the select-option field without pressing F4. In this case, you will have to code some input validations taking into account the value in the p_ipack field.

  • Data Type for Process Flow... PB with Date?

    I've got a problem by passing parameters in process flow.
    I have a mapping with a parameter DATE_EXEC (data type : DATE) and a default value that is TO_DATE('20/01/2007' , 'dd/mm/yyyy') . My mapping is working good when i launch it.
    I have a process flow which contains the mapping. This process has a parameter DATE_EXEC (data type : DATE). I bind the 2 DATE_EXEC. But when i launch my mapping the value is not recognized, I try with :
    - TO_DATE('20/01/2007' , 'dd/mm/yyyy')
    - 20/01/2007
    - 2007.01.20
    - 2007-01-20
    My question is what are the data type in process flow? They are not ORACLE TYPE.
    For example , a parameter in a mapping which is a VARCHAR2 must be input between quotes but if you bind it to a parameter of a process flow which is a STRING (not ORACLE Data type) , you must input it without quotes?
    Anybody has some rules about that?
    I apologize for my english, i'm a french people.

    Here is some information on the literal quote or not quote query and what I think you need to do at the end, hope it helps. Not exactly intuitive...since the flow designer (you) have to know what is a PLSQL object and what is not.
    1. Literal = FALSE
    When Literal = FALSE is set then the value entered must be a valid PL/SQL expression which is evaluated at the Control Center e.g.
    'Hello World!'
    22 / 7
    2. Literal = TRUE
    When Literal = TRUE then the value is dependent on the the type of Activity. If the activity is a PL/SQL object i.e. Mapping or Transformation, then the value is PL/SQL snippet. The critical difference here is that the value is macro substituted into the call for the object. The format of the value is identical to that entered as default value in the Mapping editor. e.g.
    'Hello World!'
    sysdate()
    If the activity type is not a PL/SQL object then the value is language independent. e.g.
    Hello World
    3.1427571
    What you should try......
    Check the map activity parameter in your process flow to see if literal is false (an expression), set it to false and then try using your TO_DATE('20/01/2007' , 'dd/mm/yyyy') expression, deploy your flow and execute. Alternatively the user guide defines the DATE type for flow with the format YYYY-MM-DD so you can have the parameter value as '2007-01-20' use literal equal to true and remember and quote your value.
    Cheers

  • Data Type for a Longitude/Latitude Column in an Oracle dB Table?

    Greetings All,
    What is the recommended data type for a Longitude(Lon) or Latitude(Lat) Column of an Oracle dB Table? I am creating a signs inventory table in our Oracle database to be used as a data warehouse for our signs inventory. The Lon and Lat fields along with some other data will be populated from a MS access file exported from our Geodatabase. Currently the data type for the Lon and Lat fields of the MS access file is defined as "Double". A couple of Examples of the Lon and Lat data are as follows:
    Lat                       Lon
    59.4564555909     -135.3133542922
    64.841125            -148.01808
    ...What data type should these two columns be defined in the new Oracle database table??? Should the data type be defined as FLOAT(126), NUMBER(10, 6), or else? Any suggestions/help on this would be greatly appreciated.
    If the data type is defined as NUMBER(10,6), the first example of Lon "-135.3133542922" will be truncated to "-135.313354" or would I receive an error while trying to import the data from an access file to the Oracle dB?
    Thanks in advance for any/all the help.

    Orchid,
    Is SDO_GEOMETRY available in Oracle 10g?Yup. I'm still on 10g as well; there's no shame in that.
    How do I format my lat/long's into WKT and use the SDO_GEOMETRY constructor?The March 16th example shows the steps, but I take it you're trying to get your data from MS Access into Oracle. Is that right? If so, consider these options:
    OPTION 1, When you have < 50k records
    Simply write a query that returns INSERT statements that you can run against Oracle.
    For example, let's say you have a table in MS Access defined as msaCoords (ID, LongX, LatY).
    Let's say, your destination table in Oracle is named oraCoords(ID NUMBER, Geometry MDSYS.SDO_GEOMETRY). Then,
    SELECT "INSERT INTO oraCoords (ID, Geometry) VALUES (" & ID & ", SDO_GEOMETRY('POINT (" & LongX & "," & LatY & "'), 8307);" FROM msaCoords;
    -- "MS-ACCESS QUERY RESULTS"
    INSERT INTO oraCoord (ID, Geometry) VALUES (1, SDO_GEOMETRY('POINT (-135.3133542922,59.4564555909'), 8307);
    INSERT INTO oraCoord (ID, Geometry) VALUES (2, SDO_GEOMETRY('POINT (-148.01808,64.841125'), 8307);Save those MS-ACCESS QUERY RESULTS to a text-file (D:\MyPts.sql). Launch SqlPlus and type @D:\MyPts.sql
    Once it's done, type Commit into SqlPlus and you're done.
    OPTION 2, when you have > 50k records
    Use SqlLoader. There's an example posted { here | http://forums.oracle.com/forums/thread.jspa?messageID=9412123&#9412123 }
    Cheers,
    Noel

  • Bug or feature: TableView.EditEvent - same type for value and row?

    Just noticed (normally I don't care overly much about generics, they are my natural enemies : -) that the return type for both cell and row data is the same:
    class EditEvent<T> {
        T getNewValue()
        T getOldValue()
        T getRowValue()
    }old/new value is fine, but typically the row has another type, which most probably is completely unrelated, as f.i. in
    TableView<Person> tableView = new TableView<Person>(persons);
    TableColumn<String> firstName = new TableColumn<String>("First Name");
    firstName.setProperty("firstName");
    EventHandler<EditEvent<String>> nameEditHandler = new EventHandler<TableView.EditEvent<String>>() {
                @Override
                public void handle(TableView.EditEvent<String> e) {
    // compile error
                    Person p = (Person)e.getRowValue();
                    String newValue = (String)e.getNewValue();
                    p.setFirstName(newValue);
    firstNameCol.setOnEditCommit(nameEditHandler);The compile error is due to the event requiring the same type for row and cell. Obviously, can remove all type parameters - but how to solve cleanly without getting unchecked/rawtype warnings?
    Thanks
    Jeanette

    Good morning, Jonathan (my day time : -)
    If you mean that big issue where you threaten (and locally actually already did) to remove all the niceties of auto-magic column binding via setting property names - yeah, I've read it, partly unhappily. But that's another story.
    to create two separate EditEvents - one for row edits and one for cell edits.
    hmm .. have been expecting something along the lines of
    EditEvent<R, C> {
         R getRowValue();
         C getOldValue();
         C getNewValue();
    // used in
    TableView<R>
    TableColumn<C>
    // for row edits
    R == C
    getRowValue() == getOldValue()Musing a bit longer, the event could be streamlined a bit - remove all the convenience sugar: the receiver has to know the exact details of grabbing the data anyway in order to be able to change it (in the current workflow, it's not necessarily the way to go) so old/row is redundant
    EditEvent<S> {
       <S> getEditValue();
    }Cheers

  • Problem with the data type in layout

    Hi friends,
    I am getting one Rate as 20.000 but it should print on the screen as 20
    Can any one help me on this issue,
    Regards,
    Venu.

    Hi Venu,
    Refer this and make changes in the form layout.
    Number of Decimal Places
    A program symbol of one of the data types DEC, QUAN, and FLTP can contain decimal place data. Use the option below to override the Dictionary definition for the number of decimal places for the formatting of this symbol value.
    Syntax
    &symbol(.N)&
    The EKPO-MENGE field contains the value 1234.56. The Dictionary definition specifies 3 decimal places and an output length of 17.
    &EKPO-MENGE& -> 1,234.560
    &EKPO-MENGE(.1) -> 1,234.6
    &EKPO-MENGE&(.4) -> 1,234.5600
    &EKPO-MENGE&(.0) -> 1,235
