What is the " Default Browser Helper 537 " plug-in ?

I went to check if my plug-ins were up to date today and noticed a new one that I did not knowingly install:
"Default Browser Helper 537"
I can't find any information about this, and when I click to see if plug-ins are up to date, it says that "Default Browser Helper 537" is Unknown.
What is this? Thank you.

• What is Firefox "default browser helper 537"?

Firefox user forum indicates it's an Apple Plug-in, but I cannot find any information about it anywhere. Is it actually an Apple plug-in? What does it do? Does anyone know?

Who cares, it's quite benign, I use FF on OSX most of the time & it's never resulted in any annoyances for me.
As Macsential said, it only kicks-in on sites that specifically request that Safari be used, can't say I've had even that happen on any Apple sites.
But sure if it's such a big deal by all means remove it, I've had it for yonks now & it's resulted in 0 issues for me.
This is a pointless/silly thread, unsubscribing...

• Has anyone experience this! - default browser helper 537

Hi,
I use Firefox as my default browser, since the firefox plug-in "default browser helper 537" was installed (in November) my mac has slow down, especially when browsing using both firefox and safari. I un-installed firefox a week ago and my pc has gone back to it original state. I installed Firefox again after two days from the previous un-install and the browsing slow down again. I then un-installed again. Has anyone experience this! IS there a issue with Firefox???

Just experienced same today. Firefox didn't even want to quit without a force quit. Removed Firefox and so far so good with other browsers - Safari and Chrome

• If Firefox is set as the default browser, and any application attempts to open a new window, this fails and I get the error "Firefox is already running..."

Here is what I am running:
Microsoft Windows 7, Service Pack 1, Fully updated to 4/10/2012
Fresh Install of Firefox 11. No add-ons enabled as a result of troubleshooting.
I am a user with administrator rights
UAS is disabled.
To begin, this has been going on Since Firefox 10 or so. A few months now.
I am able to open Firefox. My add-ons worked (ABP, Flashblock, ABP Element Hiding Helper, IETAB2, Downthemall, Greasemonkey, 4chan extension) had no problems. Firefox is set and has been set for the last two years as my default web browser.
However Since approximately Firefox 10 or so, maybe before that, If I have a Firefox session open, and any other application attempts to open a session in a new window, I get the Firefox is already running, but not responding error."
I attempted to follow troubleshooting advice already posted (look for parent.lock files left behind [none present], multiple sessionstore.js files [none present], create a new user profile, attempted to clear out the "read-only" permission in windows 7, however as soon as it is cleared, the read only permission returns.)
As a last resort, I deleted the Firefox folder, the %APPDATA%/Mozilla directory in its entirety, then utilized CCleaner to remove any and all references to Firefox in the windows registry, then did a full re-install, no extensions installed right now.
I checked preferences and have the option "open new windows in a new tab" checked off. The problem persists regardless if this option is checked on or off. This problem persists in or out of safe mode, even with the brand new install.
Test Cases:
All cases:
Firefox is selected as the default browser for windows 7
Case 1: Open a firefox session. Utilize any other program that attempts to open a link to their website in a new browser window or new browser session. Experience "Firefox is already running" error
Case 2: Open a firefox session. Right click on Firefox on the task bar. Select "open in new window". Experience "Firefox is already running" error
Case 3: Open a firefox session. Select the Firefox Menu > New tab > New Window. A new window will actually open.
This is the only method of opening a new window in the same browser session or profile that actually works on my system. Attempting to open a browser session from the task bar "open new window dialog" or opening a new window while a current window/session is running will not open firefox in a new window or a new tab in the current session. The "Firefox is already running, but is not responding" error will occur every time.

Cor-el's suggestion resolved my problem. Apparently the MOZ_NO_REMOTE variable was set to 1 on my system variables. I never made it, and really have no idea how it got there, but deleting this variable and restarting firefox has resolved the issue. Thanks Cor-el!
Marking case: Solved
Solution: Verify the MOZ_NO_REMOTE variable is NOT set to 1. This can be achieved by simply deleting this variable.

• The default browser is set to 5.0. I want it to open 4.0.

I just installed the Firefox 5.0 update. I currently have 3.6, 4.0 and 5.0 installed on my Mac Book Pro for development purposes. Many plug-ins I use for development don't work in 5.0 currently so I want to use 4.0 instead. How can I make my default browser 4.0?
Currently, 5.0 keeps automatically opening when I click on a link from an external source/RSS reader.

I am not a Mac user, but have multiple versions and profiles of Firefox. I note you ask about Macs, but have system details showing as Windows 7.
I can only speak from a PC perspective, but no doubt you can sort it out yourself. It is down to the OS which browser is the default, although firefox has the option to check and reset that at startup.
No doubt if I delved into the registry I could find how it sets the default browser, but in practical terms what I do is allow the OS to set itself up.
# Choose any other alternative browser such as IE, make that the default, and allow that to take effect.
#Then deselect IE as default browser checking.
#Now start up the chosen version of Firefox, use Firefox's options to set that as default browser. (Options -> advanced -> general system defaults )
It works, although some applications may choose IE regardless.

With luck something similar may work on a Mac

• Wanting to make FF 4 my default browser, help pages are no help!

The FF help menus show directions to make FF default browser. However after trying to follow the steps given, no response and no default. Something is missing there, don't know what. Windows XP Pro is my system.
Thanks

there maybe more than one web browser on your pc, and by default ,maybe they all set to be the default browser, so you have to disable them all, disable them to check themselves to be the default internet browser. then enable firefox as the default browser.

• Stagewebview is not using the default browser?

Hello community,
We encounter an issue regarding the userAgent we get with Javascript when our page is viewed from an Android App running Air and using the Stagewebview.
We noticed that despite the default browser set as Google Chrome (Webkit v.537), we identify that app using Webkit v.534.
After a lot of trouble shooting, it seems that there is a difference between "native" browser and "default" browser.
Is that correct?
If so, the question is: Is there a way to make Stagewebview use the user selected browser/engine ?
Our website needs to display text vertically (japanese text) and the form elements are not well recognized in the 534 version browser, but work perfectly in the last version of Chrome we can get running on those devices.
(We target Android 4.2+ users)
Any input will be appreciated.
Cedric Simon

Hello ArkadiuszOkoń,
I downloaded the 4.4W sdk and replaced the file as proposed, but I don't notice any change.
On Desktop, I can see that Air webkit 533 is used. did my compile really took the new file into configuration?
I'm using FlashDevelop, are there settings to change in the bat fie or in the manifest?
As you proposed about the <uses-sdk> settings, some are already setup and I didn' change them, should I higher the minSdkVersion for example?
Here is the current section:
<android>
<manifestAdditions><manifest android:installLocation="auto">
<uses-sdk android:minSdkVersion="8" />
<uses-permission android:name="android.permission.INTERNET" />
<uses-feature android:required="true" android:name="android.hardware.touchscreen.multitouch" />
</manifest></manifestAdditions>
</android>
Also, Jan-F-W, thank you for your proposal,
I should explain something else:
The app is using "stagewebviewbridge" package that one can find here : stagewebviewbridge - Extend Adobe AIR StageWebView ( Desktop, iOS, Android ) - Google Project Hosting
We do not have access to the source code of that app, but we have to investigate the case and propose a solution otherwise the development company in charge will not make a single move.
So I created a sample application that loads a page on my machine and that displays the userAgent to check what engine is running.
(in that case, I can use a StageWebView directly if I want)
I can see that depending on the useNative boolean parameter of StageWebView I get a different userAgent, which is great.
BUT, I had a doubt on mobile, as stated by Adobe Documentation: This parameter is ignored on mobile.
In doubt, I checked on the mobile device, and in both base, the device "native" browser is used, not the Chrome set as "default".
Maybe my tests are not accurate enough? I'm not a flash developer, so I feel a bit lost there.
Thank you for your guidance.

You can try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox.
*Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"
You need to close and restart Firefox after toggling this setting.
*https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Troubleshooting+extensions+and+themes
*https://support.mozilla.org/kb/upgrade-graphics-drivers-use-hardware-acceleration
Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]] to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.
*Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
*Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window
If you have submitted crash reports then please post the IDs of one or more recent crash reports that have a "bp-" prefix:
*bp-xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx
You can find the Report ID of recent crash reports on the "Help > Troubleshooting Information" page (about:support).

• How do you invoke the default browser for Unix/OSX

Does anyone know how to programmatically display the contents of a URL in the default browser for a Unix system? I found a javaworld article on doing this using Runtime.getRuntime().exec(cmd). The article gives the cmd string for invoking the default browser in Windows, and for invoking the Netscape browser in Unix.
This can easily be extended to invoke any known browser executable in a known path on a Unix system; but I'd like to invoke the default browser without knowing what or where it is. I'm specifically targetting Mac/OSX, but any Unix solution is worth trying.
Is there a Unix command for launching the default browser to display the contents of a given URL? Or is there an alternative approach, rather than invoking Runtime.exec()?
-Mark

After extensive google searching, I came across a partial solution. This code detects the default browser on a Mac, and provides an elegant solution for trying standard browsers in turn for other Unix systems. I tested it on WIndows XP and Mac OSX 3.9, and it detected the default browser each time. A suped up version of this tool is available as a SourceForge project. You can find it here:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/browserlaunch2/
Here's the simplified code:
// Bare Bones Browser Launch //
//  Version 1.5                                        //
//  December 10, 2005                                  //
// Supports: Mac OS X, GNU/Linux, Unix, Windows XP //
//  Example Usage:                                     //
//     String url = "http://www.centerkey.com/";       //
//     BareBonesBrowserLaunch.openURL(url);            //
// Public Domain Software -- Free to Use as You Like //
import java.lang.reflect.Method;
import javax.swing.JOptionPane;
public class BareBonesBrowserLaunch {
private static final String errMsg = "Error attempting to launch web browser";
public static void openURL(String url) {
String osName = System.getProperty("os.name");
try {
if (osName.startsWith("Mac OS")) {
Class fileMgr = Class.forName("com.apple.eio.FileManager");
Method openURL = fileMgr.getDeclaredMethod("openURL",
new Class[] {String.class});
openURL.invoke(null, new Object[] {url});
else if (osName.startsWith("Windows"))
Runtime.getRuntime().exec("rundll32 url.dll,FileProtocolHandler " + url);
else { //assume Unix or Linux
String[] browsers = {
"firefox", "opera", "konqueror", "epiphany", "mozilla", "netscape" };
String browser = null;
for (int count = 0; count < browsers.length && browser == null; count++)
if (Runtime.getRuntime().exec(
new String[] {"which", browsers[count]}).waitFor() == 0)
browser = browsers[count];
if (browser == null)
throw new Exception("Could not find web browser");
else
Runtime.getRuntime().exec(new String[] {browser, url});
catch (Exception e) {
JOptionPane.showMessageDialog(null, errMsg + ":\n" + e.getLocalizedMessage());

• How to open a URL in the default browser via CC HTML Extension?

Hi,
I'm trying to open a link via the default browser in a HTML Extension for Photoshop CC built with Extension Builder 3.
With the initial example the "/indext.html" it look like this:

Run ps code

and I changed the code from "/ext.js" to:
...function onClickButton(ppid) {    var csInterface = new CSInterface();    csInterface.openURLInDefaultBrowser('http://www.adobe.com');}...
This is what the "/lib/CSInterface-4.0.0.js" looks like:
* Opens a page in the default system browser.
* @param url The URL of the page to open. Must use HTTP or HTTPS protocol.
* @return One of these error codes:\n
*
\n
*
NO_ERROR - 0
\n
*
ERR_UNKNOWN - 1
\n
*
ERR_INVALID_PARAMS - 2
\n
*
ERR_INVALID_URL - 201
\n
*
\n
CSInterface.prototype.openURLInDefaultBrowser = function(url)
return cep.util.openURLInDefaultBrowser(url);
Since "util" doesn't seem to be defined I get the message:
Uncaught TypeError: Cannot call method 'openURLInDefaultBrowser' of undefined
Is the something missing?
Thx,
frankin

Hi Franklin,
Apologies for the delay but I have been trying to determine why this API is not been working. I have since discovered that, although this API is documented in the JS library, the behaviour has yet to be implemented into Photoshop CC. Offline I will try to determine why this API was included in the library when it was not ready but for the meantime, if you would like to open a browser, here is a workaround:
Instead of using:
//(new CSInterface).openURLInDefaultBrowser("http://www.adobe.com")
// Use the createProcess API to open a browser. The following shows a workflow in Windows to open Internet Explorer.
var csInterface = new CSInterface();
var rootDir = "/";
var isWindows = window.navigator.platform.toLowerCase().indexOf("win") > -1;
if (isWindows) {
rootDir = csInterface.getSystemPath(SystemPath.COMMON_FILES).substring(0, 3);
var processPath = "/usr/bin/open";
if (isWindows) {
processPath = rootDir + "Windows/explorer.exe";
var url = "http://www.adobe.com";
window.cep.process.createProcess(processPath, url);
Apologies for this inconvenience but we promise to keep you informed when openURLInDefaultBrowser API is fully supported.
Kind regards,
Lea

• How to change the default browser for "Search in Google" pop-up menu?

This issue has come up for the last three OS X releases, at least, and it's still here for Lion.
I'm in Apple Mail and select some text. I want to search on the term using Google. Right-click brings up the context menu with "Search in Google." This inevitably results in Safari opening for the search.
Chrome is definitely set as my default browser. Clicking links in email messages brings them up in the proper browser. "Search in Google" does not. Wherever this context menu item is selected (Mail, TextEdit, etc.) it opens Safari instead of the default browser.
As far as I'm concerned, that makes the context menu item useless, since I do not use Safari.
Has anyone figured out a workaround?
Has anyone in the OS X team at Apple paid attention to this issue? It is not new.

This post helped me.
https://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=147510
Basically, the "Search in Google" extension is from Safari and it can be disabled in System Preferences.
System Preferences -> Keyboard -> Keyboard Shortcuts -> Services -> Searching and unchecking "Search with Google"
It worked for me and I also disabled a few other right-click options that I never use.

• What is the default user name and password for oracle databse 10g

Hi: gurus, I just recently installed the oracle 10g personal edition and trying to log on to the enterprise manger, but can't figure it out the user name and password, can some one help me and tell me what is the default user name and password to logon to the oracle instance. BTW during the installation I choose two passowrds one for the schema and one for the global database orcl. I wonder will I be using one of these passwords. Still I don't have any clue for the "User Name".
thanks

system/manager and sys/change_on_install are still valid default passwords when database is manually created. If DBCA was used, passwords will be those defined at creation time inside DBCA.
In case passwords have been forgotten, those can be reset:
From an OS commnad prompt, set ORACLE_SID, ORACLE_HOME and PATH environment variables, just to make sure you are pointing to the right Oracle Home installation, and issue:
OS> sqlplus / as sysdba
SQL> alter user sys identified by yourNewSysPassword;
SQL> alter user system identified by yourNewSystemPassword;
And you're done with it.
