What is the difference between function groups and Object Orientation

Hello all
I have read about this on the help.sap.com site, I still do not understand it completely, can some one explain me with  a simple example please ? (Not the increment counter example please !).
Thanks a ton.
Rgds
Sameer

Hello Sameer
When you call a module of a function group for the first time in your program then the entire function group is loaded. However, this can happen only once within your report and all global variables within the function group will have the same values all the time (except they are manipulated via fm's).
In contrast, you can create as many instances of the same class as you want and all of them can have different global attributes. And all these instances are independent of each other.
On the other hand, if fm_A changes global attributes of the function group and fm_B reads these attributes then fm_B read the changed values.
Or in other words:
Function Group = can be instantiated only ONCE
Class = can be instantiated unlimited

WHAT IS DIFFERENCE BETWEEN PHRASE GROUP AND PHRASE SET?

    Hi Ramya,
Definition of a Phrase group is a number of phrases contained in a phrase library grouped according to logical criteria. A phrase can be assigned to only one phrase group.
Phrase set is grouping of phrases for a purpose which includes allowed phrases for a value assignment type and Default phrases for a value assignment type. A phrase can be assigned to a number of phrase sets.

    Hi Experts,
What are the differences between ECC5.0 and 6.0 new GL functionality.
If we want to implement IFRS, I think New GL functionality is very helpful, but why sap is recommending only for ECC6.0 new GL functionality, Eventhough this functionality is available in ECC5.0.

  • What is the difference between Category Mgmt and Spend Analysis?

    Hi Friends
What is the difference between Category Mgmt and Spend Analysis?
    Regards
    Chinna Krishna

    Hi Chinna
Here are my two cents on this questions
    1. Catagory Management : It pertains to all sourcing activities that a purchasing group does for a specific catagory of items ( say tyres, bearings, etc. in automobile industry scenario OR steel sheets, electric motor, etc. in consumer durables industry scenario) in order to meet companies strategic goals like cost, quality, delivery and new product introduction. It also involves the strategic sourcing piece for that category. Typically it can include following activities for a category which is being managed
    - Identifying current and future business & technical requirements
    - Constant vigilence and analysis of supply market for that category ( and also identifying new sources)
    - Lauching various projects within category focussed on cost reduction, quality improvement, delivery improvement. This may include some of activities like supplier analysis. RFx, Reverse auctions, contract negotiation, etc.
    - Monitoring the category specific supplier performance
Category Management team typically consists of cross functional team and it is iterative process (continuous improvement).
Category Management in covered to some extent in E-Sourcing application and its analysis is covered in Spend Analytics application. Fully blown category management is on road map of SAP but none of the current functionalities addresses it fully.
    2. Spend Analysis: This involves analysis of the spend at highest level of organization. To improve the data quality, it typically involves spend data standardization & enrichment, supplier normalization and spend categorization. Once you have clean data, one can slice and dice the data to gain insight into the spend and identify opportunities for launching the various initiatives focussed on cost, quality and delivery.
SAP Spend Analytics application covers this spend analysis capability.
Its a long answer and hope it helps you.

  • What's the difference between segment filtering and reduced message type

    Hi gurus,
What's the difference between segment filtering and reduced message type? It seems they have the same functionality: Reduce the segment while idoc is generated.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
    BD53 is for IDoc Reduction.
this allows you to create a reduced message based upon a standard message type.If you want see mandatory fields. go to T-coe BD53 and give one standard messege type name and eg: matmas
there mandatory fields will be in Green color..
And BD56- This transaction is used to filter out segments of IDocs for combination of sender and receiver. This is usefull in scenarios where a standard IDoc with many segments is used but the receiving partner is only interested in some of the segments
the table related to this transation is TBD20
please go through below blog you have an idea abt that,

  • What's the difference between gnome, kde and xfce?

What's the difference between gnome, kde and xfce? Today I heard someone said gnome and kde have more software than xfce. Is that real?
    Thank you.
Last edited by thesimpsons (2009-04-02 01:50:28)

Its really a matter of taste, really. KDE is know to be configurable like hell, GNOME very easy to use, and XFCE lightweitgh.
Keep in mind that whatever desktop environment (DE) you choose, you can use any application in any DE. For example, firefox, a "GTK" application, works without problem under KDE. Or Kile, a latex front-end for KDE, works perfect under Gnome.
Personnally I prefer KDE. But I mostly prefer KDE applications like the editors (Kate/Kwrite) and file manager (dolphin).
KDE is slower to start on my EeePC (really small machine) but because it is full featured, I can cut on number of packages installed, so in the end, with the same functionality, I have more room on my disk then using XFCE!
Just try them, and choose the one you like

  • What's the difference between transport route and transport layer

what's the difference between transport route and transport layer,Can somebody give me some explaination? thks in advance!

    Hi,
    Transport Layer in ABAP Workbench
The Change and Transport System supports the distribution of development
work on large projects across multiple SAP Systems.
The packages in each development system are grouped into one transport
        layer.
The transport layer determines whether objects are assigned to a local
        or transportable change request.
    Use
Each of your SAP development systems is assigned a transport layer as
its standard transport layer. If you use Extended Transport Control, you
can assign different standard transport layers to certain clients.
You can define at the most one consolidation target for each SAP System
    and transport layer.
When you create a package, it is assigned the standard transport layer
    of the SAP System.
If you want to assign a different transport layer to a package, you
require the administration authorization for the Change and Transport
    System.
The objects in a package automatically have the transport attributes
defined for the corresponding transport layer.
o   If a consolidation route originating in their SAP System is defined,
then the objects are assigned to a transportable request, and
transported into the consolidation target when it is released.
o   If a consolidation route is not defined, the objects are assigned to
a local request, and are not transported.
Customizing settings are not assigned to a package. They have the
transport attributes of the standard transport layer of the system or
    client.
It is best to assign a package a standard transport layer for which a
consolidation route originating in the development system is defined.
To display and maintain the transport layers and routes, use the
    Transport Management System (transaction STMS).
Only the system adminstrator can make changes.
    Caution:
The tables TSYST, DEVL, TWSYS, TASYS are no longer productive as of
Release 4.0A and cannot be maintained.

  • What's the difference between "My Contacts" and "All Contacts"?

What's the difference between "My Contacts" and "All Contacts"?
I have no other account other then my iCloud account (from what I can tell), but "My Contacts" has a significantly smaller number of contacts then "All Contacts".
    What's the difference?

Thanks for posting the screenshots, that's helpful.  I didn't realize that you were looking at your groups.
"All Contacts" include (as the name implies) all of your contacts.  Below that are any contact groups that you may have defined.  These would normally be such things as "Work", "Personal", "Doctors", etc.; any groups that you find useful to define.  These contain subsets of the "All Contacts" group.
At some point, perhaps inadvertently, you must have created a group called "My Contacts", or imported it to iCloud from your computer.  At the time this may have contained all of your contacts and would have had the same number of contacts as the "All Contacts" group.  Then over time you probably added 433 additional contacts that were never part of the original "My Contacts" group, resulting in an "All Contacts" group that contained 1465 contacts.
If you don't have any use for the "My Contacts" group, you can delete it by clicking on it on the left sidebar, click the gear icon on the lower left and choose Delete.  If you're concerned about doing this, you can make a backup of this group first by selecting it on the left sidebar, clicking on a single contact within the group, pressing Control-A to select them all (they should all be highlighted), then clicking the gear icon and choosing Export vCard.  This will create a .vcf file that can later be imported back to iCloud if you ever need to (by clicking the gear icon again and choosing Import vCard).

  • What is the difference between PSE 8 and 9

I was wondering what is the difference between PSE 8 and 9 and are the enhancements worth upgrading to PSE 9?

iOS is the operating system for mobile devices such as iPhones, iPads, and iPods), as well as AppleTV. Mavericks is the current operating system for Macs (laptops and desktop computers). Yosemite is its newest iteration, currently in beta and due for release in the next few weeks.

    Sapscript vs Smartforms
    Difference with SMARTFORMS vs. SapScript(SE71)
The Following are the differences :-
    a) Multiple page formats are possible in smartforms which is not the case in SAPScripts
    b) It is possible to have a smartform without a main window .
    c) Labels cannot be created in smartforms.
    d) Routines can be written in smartforms tool.
    e) Smartforms generates a function module when activated
Scripts are client dependent whereas smartforms aren't.
Upto 99 main windows are possible in scripts and only one in smarforms.
To create multiple main windows in scripts, you just have to give the window type as MAIN whnever you create a window.
Scripts still exists but smartforms are in use from 4.6c version, now the lastest version of these two is adobe forms
SAP Smart Forms is introduced in SAP Basis Release 4.6C as the tool for creating and maintaining forms.SAP Smart Forms allow you to execute simple modifications to the form and in the form logic by using simple graphical tools; in 90% of all cases, this won't include any programming effort. Thus, a power user without any programming knowledge can
configure forms with data from an SAP System for the relevant business processes.
    Advantages of SAP Smart Forms
SAP Smart Forms have the following advantages:
    1. The adaptation of forms is supported to a large extent by graphic tools for layout and logic, so that no programming knowledge is necessary (at least 90% of all adjustments). Therefore, power user forms can also make configurations for your business processes with data from an SAP system. Consultants are only required in special cases.
    2. Displaying table structures (dynamic framing of texts)
    3. Output of background graphics, for form design in particular the use of templates which were scanned.
    4. Colored output of texts
    5. User-friendly and integrated Form Painter for the graphical design of forms
    6. Graphical Table Painter for drawing tables
    7. Reusing Font and paragraph formats in forms (Smart Styles)
    8. Data interface in XML format (XML for Smart Forms, in short XSF)
    9. Form translation is supported by standard translation tools
    10. Flexible reuse of text modules
    11. HTML output of forms (Basis release 6.10)
    12. Interactive Web forms with input fields, pushbuttons, radio buttons, etc. (Basis-Release 6.10)

  • What is the difference between undo tablespace and online redo log files.

what is the difference between undo tablespace and online redo log files. I am confused
as per my knowledge undo tablespace is used to store the undo information when a table is being updated so that, just incase we need to rollback a transaction we know what was present in the table earlier.
when a transaction fails the SMON performs the rollback of the data.
This undo data is stored in the undo tablespace and read consistency if any is enforced.
is my understanding till here correct?
Now, can this undo data/before image not be stored in the redo log buffer and online redolog files?
can redo-log files not store this information?
in fact, is it that when undo tablespaces exist in a database, the undo data/before image is stored in both the undo tablespace and also the redo log files?
    kindly clarify my doubt.
    thank you.

This question has been asked many times before. The answer is always the same.
Yes, redo contains the before image of data (and the after-image). Therefore, it **COULD** be used to roll back a transaction.
BUT... Redo is written sequentially. Using it to rollback your transaction would involve reading through all the redo written by maybe thousands of other people. It would be painfully slow.
Your transaction is, however, directly linked to just the UNDO that it generates (which is JUST the before image of the data). So, your undo is your undo and doesn't share space with anyone else's undo. Therefore, using it to roll back YOUR transaction is fast.
The fact that undo is only the before image of the data also makes it faster than wading through a sea of before and AFTER images as you'd find in redo. About twice as fast, in fact, since there's half the data. Roughly.
Redo also gets written and flushed to disk whenever there's a commit, 3 seconds are up or too much (1MB, actually) redo gets generated between flushes caused by other factors. Your redo gets flushed when those things happen, even if you haven't actually committed your transaction. And redo logs recycle themselves, meaning that your redo -even if your transaction hasn't been committed yet- can be over-written by later transactions. Try rolling back when that's happened, if redo was the source of your rollback data!
Undo, however, cannot be over-written if the transaction has not been committed. Ever. If you don't commit for three years, there will be three years' undo stored in your database (assuming you had the space, of course!).
I could go on, but that will do. Redo is there fore RECOVERY, after catastrophe. Undo is there for read-consistency (and the occasional change of mind). Two different functions. Two different mechanisms. Each one highly tuned to doing what it does, why it does it, most efficiently and effectively.

  • What is the difference between standard, sorted and hash table

<b>can anyone say what is the difference between standard, sorted and hash tabl</b>

    Hi,
    Standard Tables:
Standard tables have a linear index. You can access them using either the index or the key. If you use the key, the response time is in linear relationship to the number of table entries. The key of a standard table is always non-unique, and you may not include any specification for the uniqueness in the table definition.
This table type is particularly appropriate if you want to address individual table entries using the index. This is the quickest way to access table entries. To fill a standard table, append lines using the (APPEND) statement. You should read, modify and delete lines by referring to the index (INDEX option with the relevant ABAP command). The response time for accessing a standard table is in linear relation to the number of table entries. If you need to use key access, standard tables are appropriate if you can fill and process the table in separate steps. For example, you can fill a standard table by appending records and then sort it. If you then use key access with the binary search option (BINARY), the response time is in logarithmic relation to
    the number of table entries.
    Sorted Tables:
Sorted tables are always saved correctly sorted by key. They also have a linear key, and, like standard tables, you can access them using either the table index or the key. When you use the key, the response time is in logarithmic relationship to the number of table entries, since the system uses a binary search. The key of a sorted table can be either unique, or non-unique, and you must specify either UNIQUE or NON-UNIQUE in the table definition. Standard tables and sorted tables both belong to the generic group index tables.
This table type is particularly suitable if you want the table to be sorted while you are still adding entries to it. You fill the table using the (INSERT) statement, according to the sort sequence defined in the table key. Table entries that do not fit are recognised before they are inserted. The response time for access using the key is in logarithmic relation to the number of
table entries, since the system automatically uses a binary search. Sorted tables are appropriate for partially sequential processing in a LOOP, as long as the WHERE condition contains the beginning of the table key.
    Hashed Tables:
Hashes tables have no internal linear index. You can only access hashed tables by specifying the key. The response time is constant, regardless of the number of table entries, since the search uses a hash algorithm. The key of a hashed table must be unique, and you must specify UNIQUE in the table definition.
This table type is particularly suitable if you want mainly to use key access for table entries. You cannot access hashed tables using the index. When you use key access, the response time remains constant, regardless of the number of table entries. As with database tables, the key of a hashed table is always unique. Hashed tables are therefore a useful way of constructing and
using internal tables that are similar to database tables.

  • (261680070) Q WWO-13 What are the difference between WLS6.1 and WLS7.0 web services?

Q<WWO-13> What are the difference between WLS6.1 and WLS7.0 web services?
A<WWO-13> The differences are huge, so different in fact that 6.1 web services cannot
be deployed in 7.0. WLS7.0 and Workshop have much greater functionality than the
limited stateless session (RPC-style) and JMS destination (MSG-style) approach of
6.1. Workshop web services can interact with any type of EJB, any JMS destination
as well as other web services and directly accessing databases. The framework for
building the web service is better and more adaptable and Workshop provides a fully
integrated develop, deploy, test and debug environment. Additionally, WLS7.0 have
the capacity to be much better at performance since due to XML parser enhancements
and the addition of XML maps.

If you want to take existing WLS6.1 web services and convert them to WLS7.0 you can
do so quite easily. The WLS7.0 Ant still supports wsgen so you do not need to even
change your build.xml file. The generated web service however will be implemented
is a manner compliant with the WLS7.0 environment. More details are at:
