What is the download size for Mavericks?

Hello, I have a late 2009 Macbook that is currently running 10.6.8. A bit outdated, I know, but I hope to fix that. The issue is, I don't have a stable internet connection at home. So here is my question; How large is the file download to upgrade to Mavericks from 10.6.8, and more importantly, will my older computer and applications even be compatable? I don't want to upgrade only to discover that my computer runs slower. Thank you for the responses.

1. Unless Apple says otherwise, Mavericks is no longer available.
2. Your Mac is compatible with both Lion and Yosemite. Click here and look your software up.

Down load fron the Internet OmniDiskSweeper (free) and open it.  It will show you all of your files and the respective sizes.
In addition, click on your HDD icon in the upper right hand corner of your desk top with COMMAND I (I as in the letter i).  What does it say about the space used and available.

  • Adobe SendNow - What is the optimal size for custom logos?

I just tried to upload a custom logo (800x200) and it seemed to be stuck up in the top left corner, with a large amount of blank white screen.
What is the optimal size for this please, and how do I centre a smaller logo?
It is of course entirely possible I will need to make one in PS - not a problem - but the right sizes would be helpful info please.
    Many Thanks

That is what I read too - but when I uploaded one it got tucked up in the top left corner of the "custom" setup thumbnail.
Perhaps it is just a glitch in that dialogue, but it certainly looked as if there was a raft of space to the right & underneath.
Still, probably Pilot Error so I will recheck - thank you Dave.

  • What is the maximum size for mailbox per user (Exchange 2007)

    Hello,
    I'd like to know:
What is the maximum size per mailbox, and is it not recommended to exceed 3 GB and about the items how many is the maximum per folder (inbox, .. )
    I've Exchange 2007 SP2, Outlook 2007 and 2010.
    Thank you.

    Hi
There is no size limit on mailboxes up to the maximum size of your database.  I normally recommend 2GB mailbox limits if you have some form of archiving in place.  If you have no archiving in place then the limit should be set at the amount of
data people need to keep - it is not a good idea for people to store mail in PST files because there is a limit on their mailbox.
See this article for item count recommendations:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/905803
Also you need to upgrade your Exchange 2007 server to SP3 ... SP2 has been out of support for nearly 3 years already:

  • What is the best antivirus for Mavericks? (Either paid or free)

I currently have Avast installed on my Mac, but what wondering if there is a better alternative out there for Mavericks? This is my work computer, so I heavily use it which is why I really want to make sure that nothing happens to it.

Anti-virus software serves no beneficial purpose on a Mac. Remove the Avast garbage by using its uninstaller, which will effectively remove it as well as the objectionable adware it installs. Never install it, or anything like it, ever again. Not all such trash is as easily removed.
... I really want to make sure that nothing happens to it.
Something will happen to it, eventually, but any concerns regarding "viruses" on a Mac should be dead last.
Implement a reliable backup strategy, so in the event your Mac breaks or becomes lost, recovery will be a non-event. Time Machine is included on all Macs. All you have to do is use it. To to that read Mac Basics: Time Machine backs up your Mac.
There will always be threats to your information security associated with using any Internet - connected communications tool:
You can mitigate those threats by following commonsense practices
Delegating that responsibility to software is an ineffective defense
Assuming that any product will protect you from those threats is a hazardous attitude that is likely to result in neglecting point #1 above.
OS X already includes everything it needs to protect itself from viruses and malware. Keep it that way with software updates from Apple.
A much better question is "how should I protect my Mac":
Never install any product that claims to "clean up", "speed up",  "optimize", "boost" or "accelerate" your Mac; to "wash" it, "tune" it, or to make it "shiny". Those claims are absurd.Such products are very aggressively marketed. They are all scams.
Never install pirated or "cracked" software, software obtained from dubious websites, or other questionable sources.
Illegally obtained software is almost certain to contain malware.
"Questionable sources" include but are not limited to spontaneously appearing web pages or popups, download hosting sites such as C net dot com, Softonic dot com, Soft pedia dot com, Download dot com, Mac Update dot com, or any other site whose revenue is primarily derived from junk product advertisements.
Don’t supply your password in response to a popup window requesting it, unless you know what it is and the reason your credentials are required.
Don’t open email attachments from email addresses that you do not recognize, or click links contained in an email:
Most of these are scams that direct you to fraudulent sites that attempt to convince you to disclose personal information.
Such "phishing" attempts are the 21st century equivalent of a social exploit that has existed since the dawn of civilization. Don’t fall for it.
Apple will never ask you to reveal personal information in an email. If you receive an unexpected email from Apple saying your account will be closed unless you take immediate action, just ignore it. If your iTunes or App Store account becomes disabled for valid reasons, you will know when you try to buy something or log in to this support site, and are unable to.
Don’t install browser extensions unless you understand their purpose. Go to the Safari menu > Preferences > Extensions. If you see any extensions that you do not recognize or understand, simply click the Uninstall button and they will be gone.
Don’t install Java unless you are certain that you need it:
Java, a non-Apple product, is a potential vector for malware. If you are required to use Java, be mindful of that possibility.
Java can be disabled in System Preferences.
Despite its name JavaScript is unrelated to Java. No malware can infect your Mac through JavaScript. It’s OK to leave it enabled.
Block browser popups: Safari menu > Preferences > Security > and check "Block popup windows":
Popup windows are useful and required for some websites, but popups have devolved to become a common means to deliver targeted advertising that you probably do not want.
Popups themselves cannot infect your Mac, but many contain resource-hungry code that will slow down Internet browsing.
If you ever see a popup indicating it detected registry errors, that your Mac is infected with some ick, or that you won some prize, it is 100% fraudulent. Ignore it.
Ignore hyperventilating popular media outlets that thrive by promoting fear and discord with entertainment products arrogantly presented as "news". Learn what real threats actually exist and how to arm yourself against them:
The most serious threat to your data security is phishing. To date, most of these attempts have been pathetic and are easily recognized, but that is likely to change in the future as criminals become more clever.
OS X viruses do not exist, but intentionally malicious or poorly written code, created by either nefarious or inept individuals, is nothing new.
Never install something without first knowing what it is, what it does, how it works, and how to get rid of it when you don’t want it any more.
If you elect to use "anti-virus" software, familiarize yourself with its limitations and potential to cause adverse effects, and apply the principle immediately preceding this one.
Most such utilities will only slow down and destabilize your Mac while they look for viruses that do not exist, conveying no benefit whatsoever - other than to make you "feel good" about security, when you should actually be exercising sound judgment, derived from accurate knowledge, based on verifiable facts.
Do install updates from Apple as they become available. No one knows more about Macs and how to protect them than the company that builds them.
Summary: Use common sense and caution when you use your Mac, just like you would in any social context. There is no product, utility, or magic talisman that can protect you from all the evils of manki

  • What is the optimum size for a WIFI subnet ?

For LAN design fine,  keep the broadcast domain to an optimum size. What about WIFI design though ?  I want to use just 1 SSID and can have multiple vlans if I use AP groups on the controller..But how big is optimum size for a WIFI subnet ? I guess it depends on required speed, number of AP ,vlans and traffic profiles, but are there any recommendations ?
    Stu

    Hello,
    Great question
First, if you are using a WLC, the WLC will proxy the broadcast for the clien so that it wont be sent over the wireless. With that being said, you will typically see larger subnets on the WLC solution. For exmaple, we have /21 here and they work fine for our voice, data and video SSIDs. Although, some people like smaller subnets and deploy ap groups accordoningly.
Although, I have seen subnets on WiFi voice as a /16 with 5,000 phones in the subnet which to my surprise worked well. Of course, I wouldnt have designed it that large.
If you are autonmous same holds truse, but if you configure the AP to send over the broadcast to the wifi clients you should consider a smaller subnet like a /23 or /24.
As to client mix. Most folks will have a Voice SSID, Data SSID, Guest SSID so you can shape these accordiingly. Again, typically all my designs lead with a /21 or /22.

  • What's the best size for photos?

What's the optimum image size for the iPod Nano? I'd like to transfer images as small as possible.

I believe if you are only transferring the images and not the full-resolution photos, iTunes does the optimization for viewing so the pics will be small. You have a choice within the iTunes preferences.

  • What is the ideal size for you music artwork?

I wonder what the ideal artwork is for your music?
Because on the pictures below you can see that there is still som white on the upper and bottom place of the artwork and it is a 600 x 600 artwork.. And I Have an iPhone 4S so the artwork needs to be high resolution
    Thanks

Trim off any unsightly borders in an image editor and resize to square of similar size to the original, or smaller if you want to save space. There is no point resizing a 200x200px image to 600x600px, but reducing a larger image sourced from the web would be a good move.

  • What is the maximum size for a VI

I am currently using 2009. My VI is 1.8 MB. I am having problems. Time to make a chang is 15 seconds. Sometimes saving a file won't work. I have tried increasing the swap file.I also have 2 GB of memory. I will be uploading to 2010. I keep adding to the VI as the designer wants nmore features. This is a nightmare for code changes. Changes are now weekly. There are no test specs?? I also have a serious bug in my PC. It keeps flashing tring to load windows ?? I will add 1 gig of memory. Maby I need a better PC. It is 2,4 Ghz with 2G of memory.
I am having my PC rebuild and and reload 8.2 to support 8.2 and 2009 and 201o. My PC is dead as far as I am concerned. IS can;t fix my PC till next week. I am to frustrated with the code chages on thefly.

It doesn't surprise me that someone can use 1.8GB or RAM on a LabVIEW project, but what was mentioned.  What was mentioned was the size of the VI (I assumed hard drive space).  So when I saw that the mistake was made and thought it was 1.8GB instead of 1.8MB, I tried to imagine what a 1.8GB LabVIEW VI would look like.  Which is why I mentioned images on the frontpanel.

  • What is the best size for using a graphic as my homepage?

I am building my website in iWeb
My graphic designer is going to send me a graphic that I want to use as my homepage graphic - I will input some text.
He keeps asking me what size graphic I want (he charges by size)
If this means file size is my answer 72dpi/ppi = the most efficient?
What size should image be from graphic designer? in inches? in pixels? in KB and MB?
    Is GIF format is best?
I want this to be nearly the full page size. It will be in Black Red and White (the white being a bright white, the red a deep almost crimson)
I'm a novice. Need good advice for placing this graphic into iWeb as my homepage... Mahalo ~!~

According to Apple, the width of most webpages is 980 pixels. If you request that your graphic designer make a JPEG image of approximately that width, you can then use this free, online tool to reduce its file size without affecting its perceptual quality:
    http://www.jpegmini.com
If the image appears too slowly in a browser, you could reduce its file size further (with a loss of quality) via the Preview app:
Preview 5.0 Help: Reducing an image’s file size
Also see the option in iWeb's Preferences “Optimize images on import.”
