What is the Future for MAEMO 5 Ahead ?

Hello Everyone, Greetings from India !!
I know for the fact that this forum is mostly for people who have already bought the N900 and who may have some technical queries about their product. But with the N900 just been launched in this part of the world, people here have just started to understand, explore and use it. So I am one person who is just about to, on the verge of buying the N900 but have some concerns...
Maybe this question would have been discussed here a lot of time, but since I am new to this community, I thought I will try to know this from you guys. With Meego already been announced as Nokia's new OS for Tablets and smart phones. What is the Future left for MAEMO 5. Will there be no future support, Firmware updates for MAEMO as Nokia now, has decided to Abandon MAEMO. Will there be any Upgrade in Version for MAEMO. If some one like me who has liked the N900 in its current state also, but is worried about the MAEMO 5 Future in terms of version upgrade and firmware update. when compared to Android, which keeps coming out with improvised versions...Ver 1.6, 2.1 and now 2.2 slated to release... How should one look at this entire thing..
Thanks in Advance.

Hi,
I will be purchasing this handset next month too.
My opinion is that due to the fast moving technology of this market new handsets,o.s and software will always be round the corner.
To hold off to see whats round the corner would make you end up not getting anything new for fear of not getting the next new thing.
The beauty of the n900 is that it wide open for software etc with someone always out there providing newly written stuff.
My advice is to do your homework and read up on all the info , ends users views and if the fone/internet tablet still ticks all the boxes you need then buy it.
Just remember its an internet tablet with making calls technology added on so it wont have all the usual options you would get on a standard handset.
Perform a search on here and you will see lots of interesting threads what will answer most of your questions you could have with the n900.

  • What is the future for the enterprise server line from Apple?

    Hi.
I work at a company that is looking at several choices for our services. We've had a Xserve G5 for quite a while and we've been very pleased with it. Although it hasn't been a smooth ride, there haven't been any major issues that have blocked the evaluation.
However, now we are currently comming to an end of our evaluation period of different systems, and now we have to decide. The Xserve/MacOSX have it's advantages, but one issue that currently is a major questionmark is the future for the Apple enterprise line.
I'd really apreciate feedback regarding what you think will be the future for Apple's enterprise line, will it die slowly or get a new boost with the Intel switch, as I've read that Steve has stated time upon time that Apple is not an enterprise based business. Is it worth investing in Xserve/Xraid hardware or should one steer clear of Apple and choose other enterprise platforms such as Sun products based on Solaris for example.
    Thx,
    /Mysteron

Unfortunately, speculation pertaining Apple's future directions and unannounced products are forbidden here, as is discussion of their policies and procedures.
Also, it's hard to really give you a solid answer without knowing more about your particular situation.

  • What is the future for Vision subscribers ?

My apolgies if this question has been asked before , but ............
As i am not in an infinity enabled area , nor am likely to be in the next couple of years , what kind of future service can i expect from BT ?
As a vision subsriber do i miss out on new linear channels  , sports channels , HD content and anything else that is planned ?
I believe that less than 50% of UK homes are in infinty enabled areas which means that BT are at best halving their potential customers !
Is vision set to be a glorified freeview box ?
Have i got it completely wrong ?

The plan is to get you Infnity. I live in large villages/small town of. Pop 6000 we got infinity in December. I thought we would never get it but I was wrong.

  • What is the future for an Oracle Development tools?

I mean, Oracle Developer looks like Cobol 10 years ago. It is a tool, but it is hardly to support and learn. Many of pepole prefere non-Oracle tools now.
Do Oracle plane to desupport Developer, switch to JDeveloper or license a something from a Borland one more?
It can be able to develop on C++ or PL/SQL (Serverlets), but Visual Rapid tool is preferable.

I think that the only problem with Forms
are some "basic" bugs that Oracle spends
too much time to fix them. Except this,
Forms is the best tool to develop ERP
    applications (database intensive). It just
happend yesterday in our company. We recently
participated in a competition to develop a
sales system, with reports, images, technical
data, etc. The team from USA with VB and
SQL Server spent 18 months developing the
system and we with Forms and Oracle DB spent
, believe it or not, 1 month with more
    functionality, specially in queries and
much faster to execute. I agree that with VB
for example, we can create wonderful GUI
screens but to do so, we spend more time,
the system will be larger, difficult to
maintain (because of more code) and many
times, not reliable. Besides I have never
seen a tool where we can run without any
change in client/server or WEB. We have
compared Forms in the last 6 years with
many other tools like VB, VC, Gembase,
Fabasoft, Obsydian, Progress, etc. None of
them could surpass Forms in performance,
    development time and application
    functionality (transaction, database,
query, data secuity, etc). Even GUI is not
far from these tools. Sometimes portability
is much more important than GUI richness.
We use Forms since we had VAX/VMS and
we could move from this to Windows 3.11,
Windows NT and now WEB without any big
headache. About the learning curve, we have
3 students that were able to learn and be
productive with Forms in 2 months. Compared
with our older systems developed with COBOL
we are now 2 to 10 times faster to develop
and maintain applications, with much less
bugs. All because of application standards,
    less code, standardized screens, object
    classes, libraries and stored procedures.
The last tool comparison was with Java but
again, the programming effort to achieve
only half of the functionality that
our Forms applications have, was huge. Not
to mention that this Java application
required 70Mb of memory to execute against
22Mb from WEB Forms (client/server only
12Mb). Besides WEB Forms was 5 times faster
to execute when, for example, navigating in
    a tabular block.

  • What is the future for Forms/Reports

    Hi, Everyone,
We have been using Forms/Reports as our
    client/server applications for 3+ years.
recently I heard a lot of noises talking
about other Oracle tools: like Oracle Portal,
Oracle Jdeveloper, it seems Oracle has put more emphasis and resources on these new tools instead of the old and proven
    Developer. My questions are:
    1. Is Oracle Developer still important to Oracle ( i.e. Has Oracle put enough
resources for the new Developer version)?
    2. Anybody heard anything about the next
version of Oracle Developer ( like Forms 7),
    new features?
    Thanks a lot
    sean zhang

On the REPORTS "discussions board" a member of the Oracle Reports Team has mentioned recently that in the midd of 2001 there will be a new version of Reports called Reports 9i. If you have time you can find there this sentence.

  • DBWn & LGWR ; What is the point of Write-ahead protocol ?

From 11.2 Database Concepts Guiide's, LGWR section

Before DBWn can write a dirty buffer, redo records associated with changes to the buffer must be written to disk (the write-ahead protocol). If DBWn finds that some redo records have
not been written, it signals LGWR to write the records to disk and waits for LGWR to complete before writing the data buffers to disk. What is the rationale for write-ahead protocol ? Is it for recovery purpose or Is it for performance ?

The writing of the buffers to the data file is done in the blocksize and also, that's not always but at the checkpoint event, which can take quite a long depending on many factors. But from the log buffer to the log file, the write is done in much smaller size (in the o/s block size) and also, this is going to be happening all the time( 3 seconds) . To ensure that the data files can recover in the case of crash, it's more optimal to write the changed data first into the log buffer and then update it intot the buffer cache because that would ensure the recoverability and also it would happen far more quickly than the data file.

  • What are the settings for Primere Elements 9 if I've filmed with a Canon Powershot sx50 HS?

I just got this camera and I want the best quality possible. Unfortunately, it's hard for me to fully know if the settings I try create that. I get a fuzz or noise on objects like if I'm wearing a black jacket it's like static. When I put the video on my phone which is an Android Galaxy s4 it converts it into mp4 format and I get much more clear results than on my computer which perplexes me. I did a lot of trial and error with my previous camera (JVC Full HD Everio) which I got the same results. My newer Canon should be leagues ahead of the JVC, but I really can't tell as of yet. If anyone could help that would be awsome. I have examples of my trials and errors from my Youtube videos which you can see I felt I was slowly making progress with the JVC Oppositeofhood - YouTube

Then I saw your latest post
Wait, I think I just found it. I pressed record on different settings to take pictures with like portrait to see if it would make a difference and when I uploaded them to my computer I found where it shows the BIt rate and it varied. They run at 23 frames per second 1920 x 1080 MOV video files and all the Bit rates are like 36,356 35,414 ,36,521
If your camera is recording with a variable bitrate, the Bitrate variations from file to file should not be contributing to the issue. But it does raise the issue related to whether or
not we are setting the appropriate bitrate level in the export settings. What are the units for 36,356, 35,414, and 36,517 -
kbps (also can be written Kbps) and is kilobits per second
    or
Mbps which is megabits per second.
Let us try this for one of your 1920 x 1080p24 videos.
    Go through the following workflow
    Manually set project preset...
    NTSC
    DSLR
    1080p
    DSLR 1080p24
When you go to export your edited Timeline content, then use
    Share
    Computer
    QuickTime
with Presets = NTSC DV 16:9 - that is going to be customized to 1080p24 (H.264.mov) under the Advanced Button/Video Tab of that preset
The essential settings under the Advanced Button/Video Tab
    Video Codec = H.264
    Frame Width = 1920
    Frame Height = 1080
    Frame Rate = 23.976
    Field Type = Progressive
    Aspect = Square Pixels (1.0)
Now here is where we are going to experiment....
    Bitrate
Check Mark next to Limit Data Rate to and type in 36000 before kbps
note the file size of the export as well as the quality of the playback.
Repeat the whole process but in export
Remove the check mark next to Limit Data Rate. The Bitrate field will be disabled.
note the file size of the export as well as the quality of the playback.
We will be watching for your results.
    Thanks.

Who to reverse the OSV (Asset) if it is reverse what is the future problem in SAP?

    CEE6 wrote:
What video format (including embedded audio) is able to be viewed and heard by both OSX Lion users and Windows users?
You have to make a distinction between the container format (eg, AVI, MKV) and the video/audio format (eg, DIVX). For instance, without additional software, QuickTime can play .avi files with the IndeoVideo codec, but not .avi file with the DivX codec). Further, you have to make the distinction between what can be played using an independent player, eg, QuickTime Player, and what can be played within the presentation software (Keynote or PowerPoint).
    You can refer to
    <http://mac2.microsoft.com/help/office/14/da-dk/powerpoint/item/7acce321-36fb-48d 6-8c76-12cb3a0063ee>
for suggestions. In practice, for presentation clips, I think you're limited to MPEG-2 and MPEG-4. I don't know if an additional MPEG-2 QuickTime component is required under Lion, you'll have to check that yourself. So, in the end, it's MPEG-4. Both Keynote and PowerPoint Win/Mac should be able to handle it.
can anyone suggest a safe application that I can purchase from the apple app store that will allow me to convert video files
What's a 'safe application'? And why do you have to buy it from the App Store (yuck!)?
Handbrake, as mentioned by X423424X, is free and works very well. There are probably others, too.
this forum is the best place to learn
Perhaps, but it may not be the place to get answers to this question. Try a PowerPoint Mac user forum, they would have more experience in these x-platform issues. This forum is oriented more towards the hardware side of the MBP platform.

  • What is the future of windows embedded compact ?

as the architecture has changed totally on windows embedded phone 8, and there is windows 10 on ARM. so what is the future of this platform?

I don't believe Microsoft can let you know exactly. But it may be a good idea to move towards WPF for new applications developed as WPF has much greater capability, is more in line with above Windows 7 OS apps and even though more difficult to learn than
Windows.Forms is a move forward in developing UI's with much greater flexibility than Windows.Forms. Also nothing is being upgraded with regard to future development for Windows.Forms while apparently not the case with WPF (see bottom link).
Support for Windows Forms will end whenever Microsoft removes the capability from .Net Framework I suppose. As far as I know
Windows 10 supports Windows Forms applications because whatever .Net Framework comes installed on it supports Windows Forms applications.

  • What is the future of Oracle Discoverer?

I posted some of my thoughts on this one http://www.appsbi.com/2007/03/19/what-is-the-future-of-oracle-discoverer-freeware/
and thought who could be better to answer other than Discoverer users themselves. Do you think it makes sense to release Discoverer as a freeware tool or best as an Open source tool?
    regards
    Nilesh
    http://www.infocaptor.com

    Hi Bob
You mustn't believe everything you hear from an Oracle sales person. The sales reps have a vested interest in making you believe that OBI SE, which includes Discoverer, will not be here because they earn a lot more commission if they can get you to use EE.
They are right though in that Oracle is developing a tool that will migrate the Discoverer metadata into the Siebel metadata but this is only aimed at making you upgrade to Siebel - which is about 4 to 5 times the cost of Discoverer by the way. Siebel won't be replacing Discoverer, it will be an alternative. A nice, sexy looking, powerful alternative, yet an alternative nevertheless.
Discoverer will still be here and you will then have a choice as to whether you stay with standard edition or migrate to enterprise edition. Now of course if you have plenty of money there is nothing stopping you from upgrading, but for most people that option is out of the question right now. Oracle would need to reduce the price for EE if it is to tempt most of the Discoverer organizations into EE. Heck, there are hundred of companies still using 3.1 never mind 10g Release 2. And how many folks who have 10.1.2 have upgraded to 10.1.2.2, even though its been out a few months now and fixes all those GUI issues that they have?
From what I know, Oracle never makes claims for a product more than 2 releases out and Discoverer certainly has 2 releases in the pipework. There's a release 10.1.2.3 due out in a couple of months and a major 11g release next year. After that it would have a support life of a minimum of 5 years, even if they stopped it after 11g, during which time anything can happen. As you know, 5 years in IT is an absolute age.
Your posting certainly makes for interesting reading though and I'm sure there will be plenty of commets. If you hear any other interesting snippets I'd love to hear.
    Best wishes
    Michael

  • What is the roadmap for BI-IP product w.r.t BPC

is it true that BPC will replace or serve the same function as BI-IP?
    IF SO,
what is the rationale for such quick product replacement and what is the future direction for this planning product IP?
not long ago there is BW3.5 . then came BI 7 recently and that comes with IP, and now BPC in such a short span of time?
    please share your views.

    Hi,
First of all I would like to recommend you the relvant forum for all topics related to CPM:
You might get your answers refering to BPC and/or CPM more quickly and more precise at this forum:
Expert Forums » Business Process Expert » Corporate Performance Management
I welcome you to have a look there.
I did a quick research there and I found some information which might be interesting for you. You can find more about this at the following blog:

    Recommendations to existing customers
2007-07-10 20:35:28 Muthu Ranganathan Business Card Reply
As indicated earlier to another response in the blog, SAP would continue to support BPS,as per the existing maintenance arrangements. As of SAP NetWeaver 7.0, BI Integrated Planning (BI-IP) replaced BPS, so BPS is no longer being developed any further.Development plans for BI Integrated Planning will be unchanged by the OutlookSoft acquisition as BI-IP will continue to be SAP’s long-term planning infrastructure.SAP Strategy Management is SAP’s strategic nextgeneration
product in that category(scorcarding/strategy). However SAP would continue to support BSC as per the existing maintenance arrangements.
Some additional elements to each of the question:
    1. Do we stop all new development in these products and start utilizing the new CPM product offerings right away?
If you already have implemented element of SEM, the maintenance allows you based on a SEM 6.0 (mySAP ERP 2005) to work on maintained product until 2013. Applications of the CPM suite are of course the recommended path for new customer, however, as each customer situation is different, I would recommend to use your local SAP contact to discuss these issues.
    2. Do we continue new development in the old products and convert in the future (when the new CPM suite has stabilized and SAP has stopped further acquisitions)?
Each products of the CPM suite are now available in a stabilized and mature version, however the integration and Netweaver as a unified platform is not available. So it is more about integration than about stabilization. For more insight on the SAP roadmap again get in touch with your SAP contact.
    3. Do we stop all new development in these products and use alternative SAP products like BI integreted planning, Visual composer etc. which are more mature than the new CPM products and are not scheduled for obsolesence like SEM and BPS? Then in the future we migrate to the new CPM suite when it is stabilized?
BI integrated Planning and Visual Composer are part of the technical infrastructure in Netweaver, whereas CPM elements are Application designed for performance management and with business user centric concepts. Again these products are fully matured and stabilized and the roadmap of the CPM group is to unify the technology platform and get the convergence of all Planning and Consolidation tools.
    Thanks

So I hope I could help you at least a bit,
    Best regards,

I'm glad you took a moment to read through the legal stuff, and found that point.  Skype does claim ownership over the Online Numbers it offers.  In practice, for most countries, there should be no need to worry about Skype making changes to your number.
It is possible that the number could be changed in the future, if something in the country or area where your number is changes - i.e., changes in area/city codes.  If the changes are imposed upon Skype by its partner providing the Online Number in that country, or by local/national regulations in that area, Skype would have no choice but to make changes to numbers.  In the past, numbers have been cancelled when Skype and the local company providing the Online Number service to Skype have ended their business relationship.  This could happen again in the future for numbers in other countries.  Anything is possible, but how likely this is may be minimal.

  • What is the Tcodes for Uploading of data using BDC & CATT

    PP members:
I was going through the <b>cutover activities</b> ,  and what I understood is  we transfer all the legacy system data into SAP before going live
The data upload follows certain steps (depends on the organizational design load strategies)
First we upload all the master data ( material master, BOM, W/C's & Routings)
Then the transaction data ( Ideally speaking, there should no open orders i.e. WIP as on the day of cutoff )
If the WIP (Work in Process) is unavoidable then the materials consumed shall be treated as <b>materials of the previous stage</b> and necessary adjustments shall be made after cutover day
At this point, I could not able to understand what does the author mean <b>materials of the previous stage</b>
Now comming to the uploading of data into SAP from legacy system, we use tools like LSMW, CATT & BDC
Is it a must to use <b>only LSMW tool</b> to upload master data or any other upload tools are fine
Lastly,. I am not sure about the Tcode of CATT & BDC
    Summary of the questions:
1.What does the author mean  <b>material of previous stage</b>, for WIP materials during cutover activities
    2. Is it mandatory to use only LSMW tool for uploading for master data
    3. What are the Tcodes for upload tools CATT & BDC ?
    Thanks for your time
    Suren R

    Dear,
1.What does the author mean material of previous stage, for WIP materials during cutover activities - as i understood, what is the stage of material..like it must have gone through 2 work centers and other 2 is left. i.e. you need to create Production order with only 2 operation as other 2 is already over. - usually it is done in such a way that we will create Production order and confirm till 2 operations and WIp is calculated so thatb FI will tally the books in SAP and lagacy.
    2. Is it mandatory to use only LSMW tool for uploading for master data - no you can use any tool as required and suits yr requirement
    3. What are the Tcodes for upload tools CATT & BDC- BDC through a prog in SE38. CATT through - SCEM.

If DU reports errors it cannot repair you will need touse autility like TechTool Pro,Drive Geniusor DiskWarrior
