What is the future of AS2?

I'd like to get some thoughts on this from people. Like for example, How Important is it to learn AS2 if you are in the process learning AS3?
I started learning AS3 about a year ago with minimal knowledge of AS2. I have spent the last year just focusing solely on AS3 and as I continue my education in flash programming is there any substantial benefits from spending any time on AS2? The way I've been looking at it is, if I'm going to learn a new technique in Flash I might as well learn in it AS3.
Any thoughts?
Thx.

It depends partly on your plans for the present and the future.  I you plan to be doing freelance design work, then learning AS2 may become more of a necessity than a wishful bit of thinking.  You may end up inheriting older projects that need revisions or new features.  While the same could be said were you to be working for some functional group of some large firm, chances are more likely you would be developing new things rather than changing old things, so learning old things becomes less necessary.  Still, in any situation it is always good to have some ability to speak another language.
The good thing about learning AS3 is that you are still learning some of the unique coding elements that relate solely to Flash design.  And knowing them, you become knowledgeable as to what capabilities might exist and what you might need to look for in older versions of the language.  My view of programming and learning languages is... you learn coding concepts and capabilities that can be iinherantly applied to new languages... it is just a matter of determining what syntax/code a new language uses to do what you know it should be able to do based on experience with another language.

What video format (including embedded audio) is able to be viewed and heard by both OSX Lion users and Windows users?
You have to make a distinction between the container format (eg, AVI, MKV) and the video/audio format (eg, DIVX). For instance, without additional software, QuickTime can play .avi files with the IndeoVideo codec, but not .avi file with the DivX codec). Further, you have to make the distinction between what can be played using an independent player, eg, QuickTime Player, and what can be played within the presentation software (Keynote or PowerPoint).
    You can refer to

for suggestions. In practice, for presentation clips, I think you're limited to MPEG-2 and MPEG-4. I don't know if an additional MPEG-2 QuickTime component is required under Lion, you'll have to check that yourself. So, in the end, it's MPEG-4. Both Keynote and PowerPoint Win/Mac should be able to handle it.
can anyone suggest a safe application that I can purchase from the apple app store that will allow me to convert video files
What's a 'safe application'? And why do you have to buy it from the App Store (yuck!)?
Handbrake, as mentioned by X423424X, is free and works very well. There are probably others, too.

Perhaps, but it may not be the place to get answers to this question. Try a PowerPoint Mac user forum, they would have more experience in these x-platform issues. This forum is oriented more towards the hardware side of the MBP platform.

  • What is the future of windows embedded compact ?

as the architecture has changed totally on windows embedded phone 8, and there is windows 10 on ARM. so what is the future of this platform?

I don't believe Microsoft can let you know exactly. But it may be a good idea to move towards WPF for new applications developed as WPF has much greater capability, is more in line with above Windows 7 OS apps and even though more difficult to learn than
Windows.Forms is a move forward in developing UI's with much greater flexibility than Windows.Forms. Also nothing is being upgraded with regard to future development for Windows.Forms while apparently not the case with WPF (see bottom link).
Support for Windows Forms will end whenever Microsoft removes the capability from .Net Framework I suppose. As far as I know
Windows 10 supports Windows Forms applications because whatever .Net Framework comes installed on it supports Windows Forms applications.

  • What is the Future for MAEMO 5 Ahead ?

Hello Everyone, Greetings from India !!
I know for the fact that this forum is mostly for people who have already bought the N900 and who may have some technical queries about their product. But with the N900 just been launched in this part of the world, people here have just started to understand, explore and use it. So I am one person who is just about to, on the verge of buying the N900 but have some concerns...
Maybe this question would have been discussed here a lot of time, but since I am new to this community, I thought I will try to know this from you guys. With Meego already been announced as Nokia's new OS for Tablets and smart phones. What is the Future left for MAEMO 5. Will there be no future support, Firmware updates for MAEMO as Nokia now, has decided to Abandon MAEMO. Will there be any Upgrade in Version for MAEMO. If some one like me who has liked the N900 in its current state also, but is worried about the MAEMO 5 Future in terms of version upgrade and firmware update. when compared to Android, which keeps coming out with improvised versions...Ver 1.6, 2.1 and now 2.2 slated to release... How should one look at this entire thing..
    Thanks in Advance.

    Hi,
I will be purchasing this handset next month too.
My opinion is that due to the fast moving technology of this market new handsets,o.s and software will always be round the corner.
To hold off to see whats round the corner would make you end up not getting anything new for fear of not getting the next new thing.
The beauty of the n900 is that it wide open for software etc with someone always out there providing newly written stuff.
My advice is to do your homework and read up on all the info , ends users views and if the fone/internet tablet still ticks all the boxes you need then buy it.
Just remember its an internet tablet with making calls technology added on so it wont have all the usual options you would get on a standard handset.
Perform a search on here and you will see lots of interesting threads what will answer most of your questions you could have with the n900.

  • What is the future of Oracle Discoverer?

I posted some of my thoughts on this one http://www.appsbi.com/2007/03/19/what-is-the-future-of-oracle-discoverer-freeware/
and thought who could be better to answer other than Discoverer users themselves. Do you think it makes sense to release Discoverer as a freeware tool or best as an Open source tool?
    regards
    Nilesh
    http://www.infocaptor.com

    Hi Bob
You mustn't believe everything you hear from an Oracle sales person. The sales reps have a vested interest in making you believe that OBI SE, which includes Discoverer, will not be here because they earn a lot more commission if they can get you to use EE.
They are right though in that Oracle is developing a tool that will migrate the Discoverer metadata into the Siebel metadata but this is only aimed at making you upgrade to Siebel - which is about 4 to 5 times the cost of Discoverer by the way. Siebel won't be replacing Discoverer, it will be an alternative. A nice, sexy looking, powerful alternative, yet an alternative nevertheless.
Discoverer will still be here and you will then have a choice as to whether you stay with standard edition or migrate to enterprise edition. Now of course if you have plenty of money there is nothing stopping you from upgrading, but for most people that option is out of the question right now. Oracle would need to reduce the price for EE if it is to tempt most of the Discoverer organizations into EE. Heck, there are hundred of companies still using 3.1 never mind 10g Release 2. And how many folks who have 10.1.2 have upgraded to 10.1.2.2, even though its been out a few months now and fixes all those GUI issues that they have?
From what I know, Oracle never makes claims for a product more than 2 releases out and Discoverer certainly has 2 releases in the pipework. There's a release 10.1.2.3 due out in a couple of months and a major 11g release next year. After that it would have a support life of a minimum of 5 years, even if they stopped it after 11g, during which time anything can happen. As you know, 5 years in IT is an absolute age.
Your posting certainly makes for interesting reading though and I'm sure there will be plenty of commets. If you hear any other interesting snippets I'd love to hear.
    Best wishes
    Michael

  • Crystal Reports and Web applications.. what is the future?

    Hello,
I currently create reports in Crystal 11 R2 and display them within my intranet application using an SDK and asp calls.
I would like to know what the future holds for this method... what upgrade path do I have?
Certainly I intend to keep things the way they are as we have a large number of reports but I would like to know what options I will have to investigate\be aware of for the future?
I realise my question is a bit open ended...
What does SAP\Business Objects\Crystal decsions advocate in this regard... what is their prefered methond of providing reporting for web type applications?
PS. I am not interested in portals etc. The application provides paramters and DSN switching at run time within the application.
    Cheers,

    Thanks
    Vijay

    Vijay,
There is no such thing that the future will nto be there for the dbas. Its not the profession of dbas but it applies to everyone who is in any field. The value is only for those who are good in what they do. So if you are really good in whatever you do there wont be any issues in oppertunities. Oracle database is a very vast field and you need to keep your self always open to learn new concepts , things, technologies to make sure that you are in demand.

  • What is the future for the enterprise server line from Apple?

    Hi.
I work at a company that is looking at several choices for our services. We've had a Xserve G5 for quite a while and we've been very pleased with it. Although it hasn't been a smooth ride, there haven't been any major issues that have blocked the evaluation.
However, now we are currently comming to an end of our evaluation period of different systems, and now we have to decide. The Xserve/MacOSX have it's advantages, but one issue that currently is a major questionmark is the future for the Apple enterprise line.
I'd really apreciate feedback regarding what you think will be the future for Apple's enterprise line, will it die slowly or get a new boost with the Intel switch, as I've read that Steve has stated time upon time that Apple is not an enterprise based business. Is it worth investing in Xserve/Xraid hardware or should one steer clear of Apple and choose other enterprise platforms such as Sun products based on Solaris for example.
    Thx,
    /Mysteron

Unfortunately, speculation pertaining Apple's future directions and unannounced products are forbidden here, as is discussion of their policies and procedures.
Also, it's hard to really give you a solid answer without knowing more about your particular situation.

  • What is the future for Vision subscribers ?

My apolgies if this question has been asked before , but ............
As i am not in an infinity enabled area , nor am likely to be in the next couple of years , what kind of future service can i expect from BT ?
As a vision subsriber do i miss out on new linear channels  , sports channels , HD content and anything else that is planned ?
I believe that less than 50% of UK homes are in infinty enabled areas which means that BT are at best halving their potential customers !
Is vision set to be a glorified freeview box ?
Have i got it completely wrong ?

The plan is to get you Infnity. I live in large villages/small town of. Pop 6000 we got infinity in December. I thought we would never get it but I was wrong.

  • What is the future of SAP B1 professional?

    Hi all,
My friend got an opportunity as a SAP B1 developer  in a company.. is it good choice for his career and  future as a SAP B1 professional what is his future after 2 or 3 years?
I appreciate all kind of suggestions
    Thanks in advance
    Regards
    MK

    Hi,
i think the most important thing is that he is gaining experience.
developing is a long process and you get every day better.
i recommend your friend to develop in C# to be on the safe side. it's strong and sounds better than telling someone you're developing in VB. And than he don't need to be afraid from the future
    regards

  • What are the futures of ios5.1.1

What are the difference of IOS 5.1.1 and IOS 7 and its applicable to use IOS7 to IPAD1

IiOS 7 is a much more recent version of the iOS operating system. It contains many features not available in iOS 5.1.1. These new and more robust features require more processing power to work. That processing power is not available in the original iPad. The original iPad cannot be updated any higher than iOS 5.1.1.

  • How far in the Future will AS2 be supported?

    Hi
I've been developing Flash stuffs for almost a decade, i consider myself advanced in AS2 .. i am also very advanced in PHP..
Throughout all my projects I've always used Flash, AS2, mySQL and PHP, and have made tons of applications , some mission critical, w/ that combo..
When AS3 got introduced, i was excited, till i tried to learn it, and tried to develop under it. it's really not a BIG LEAP from AS2 to AS3, it's more of A COMPLETE CHANGE.. in the habits, in attaching code, etc.. While i tried to embraced that , and i really did.. for months.. i just can't seem to adjust to it in a practical/efficient way.. I do understand for large and scalable projects AS3 has a leading advantage.. but for small-med projects, AS3 just makes things more complicated than it as to be... and it takes me so much more time and effort to achieve the simple things i wana do.. even just the ESC+KEY shortcuts that made my coding RAPID (esc+st = stop() ) was a something i missed so much..  So I redide my project, and i simply went back to AS2 and still happy w/ it.. as long as I know the limitations, specially in performance, i'm ok.
I continued to build lots of systems, from accounting to inventory using FLASH/AS2 interface and PHP MYSQL backened.. it's robust, secure, and all I need and to do I can achieve.. I never had any complaints (well except for some minor stuffs here and there the datagrid limitations but that's ok)
Now i'm embarking on another project, w/c will require a long term support for.. as the software will be used for 3-4 years atleast and I will continue to upgrade its features and interface..
that being said, as per my EXPERIENCE w/ these type of projects, I AM COMPLETELY CONFIDENT that EVERYTHING I NEED TO BUILD and MAINTAIN for the said software is all ACHIEVABLE/AVAILABLE w/ my current working environment, the AS2/PHP/MySQL .. but thing I'm uncertain of is ADOBE's FLASH PLAYER SUPPORT for AS2 specially since lots of the GUI of my software will be running on browsers to be cross compatible (Windows/Ubuntu desktops)
    So that is my question..
I read the 2008 blog from ADobe
    http://www.adobe.com/devnet/actionscript/articles/six_reasons_as3.html
    quote;
    [img]Backwards compatibility and future technologies
If, after reading all of these benefits, you still don't want to learn ActionScript 3.0, then you can continue writing ActionScript 2.0 code to develop your projects. But as the Flash platform evolves, many of the cool new technologies will only be available in ActionScript 3.0. For example, technologies like Adobe Flex 3 and Adobe AIR require ActionScript 3.0, so if you want to work with those technologies, then working in an older version of ActionScript isn't much of an option.[/img]
SO it says here that backwards compatibility will be maintained, and i dont care about the new features.. i have everything i need in AS2..
BUT.. this is a 2008 article and I'm not sure if he meant the backwards compatibility to stay till say 2020? lol
    Anyone got insights on this?
    Thanks
    TJ

I doubt they will do any more than they already have... provided a table in the help documentation identifying what AS2 elements became what in AS3.
I doubt such a tool would be a practical investment, and possibly would leave alot of holes where there would be no translation... some processing does not translate on a line for line basis and requires knowledgeable decisions and adjustments on a case by case basis.
Anyways, I don't see how a translator will help someone master AS3... it would seem such a tool would do the opposite... provide a crutch for those who don't want to take the time and effort to learn.

  • What is the future "UDDI-based Services Registry"?

    Hi, all.
      In the NW2004s help.sap.com,
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04s/helpdata/en/6c/8aac34d2d6e64dbcfc3ffb10bb3e9e/frameset.htm
it says, "The publication of services will be possible in the near future
    in a UDDI-based Services Registry".
      What is this Services Registry?
      1. ESR is for GDT and interfaces in design time, and this Registry is for
service endpoints info etc. in runtime?
      2. What would be the difference between service registry and UDDI? Is it
just UDDI v.3 with some additional features from SAP?
      Best Regards.

    Hi,
In my opinion this Services Registry is the same as Enterprise Services Repository - part of SAP NW - the design-time repository of service objects for ESOA.
It is a container with Enterprise Services, Business Objects and other components.
It is centerpiece of ESOA and starting point for building composite applications,
