What is the highest OS my Macbook can run?

I have a mid-2007 MacBook and I wanted to know what the highest OS I could run. I'm currently running 10.6.8, and I plan on getting 10.7 soon. Here are my specs:
(Upgraded) 500 GB 2.5 SATA II Hard Drive (16 MB cache)
(Upgraded) 2 x 2GB Ram -- 3 GB's usable
Intel Core 2 Duo 2.16 GHz
Intel GMA 950
Mac OS X 10.6.8
Also, I have a Mac Recovery Disk that installs a copy of 10.7 onto macs. Can I use that to upgrade, or do I need to buy it?
Thanks for the help,
Squirtly

Lion is that latest version of OS X for  your computer model.

Leopard is no longer available at the Apple Store but may be available by calling Apple Phone Sales @ 1-800-MY-APPLE (1-800-692-7753).
If you can't obtain a retail install DVD from Apple, look on eBay or Google the installer part numbers to possibly find at an on-line store. Here's what to look for:
    MB427Z/A  Leopard 10.5.1 install DVD
    MB576Z/A  Leopard 10.5.4 install DVD
MB021Z/A  Leopard 10.5.6 install DVD (single user)

  • What is the highest Firefox version that can now be downloaded on to my Mac OSX version 10.5.8?

When I open the "Firefox" window on my computer, and then click on"About Mozilla Firefox," I read "Firefox Version 3.6.23." I assume this is the version operating now on my computer. If it isn't, because of later updates, how can I find out what the version now operating on my computer is? What is the highest compatible version I can download, and how?

It looks like you have a "Power PC" Mac. The last version of Firefox to support PPC Macs is 3.6. You can try [http://www.floodgap.com/software/tenfourfox/ TenFourFox]. It's a port of the latest Firefox made for PPC Macs. It's not made by Mozilla but many PPC users are happy with it.

  • G3 blueberry clamshell - what is the highest operating system it will run

I have a G3 Blueberry clamshell that has OS 8.6, 160 MB built in memory. What is the highest operating system this can be upgraded to?

Before you install OS X make sure you check the ibook's firmware - chances are it hasn't been updated. You should be running version boot rom version 4.1.7. You can check this out in your system profiler under production information. I think you have to be running OS9.1 or OS9.2 to do this. Once you have installed OS X you won't be able to do the firmware update.

What is the latest OS X that can run the G4 PowerBook?

Leopard 10.5.8 depending upon the specific model.

  • I have a Power Mac G4 1.25 Ghz 1 GIG Ram, what is the latest OS X I can run?

I have a Power Mac G4 1.25 Ghz 1 GIG Ram, what is the latest OS X I can run?  I am currently running Jaquar.  Where can you obtain older versions of OS X?

Actually you can run up to Leopard 10.5. It requires a G4 867mHz processor so you are comforatbly over the minimum specs.
That said, I offer two caveats regarding Leopard that may make Tiger 10.4 more appealing:
    1) Leopard may want more than 1G RAM. With currently available modules, you can take your Max RAM to 2GB. You can install up to 2GB RAM.
    2) If you don't have a video card that supports Core Image, things can be choppy. My 1.25 G4 is a tad sluggish with Leo because I have the original ATI Radeon 9000 64MB VRAM vid card. If you have a Redeon 9600 or higher, you likely have Core Image Support. Use System Profiler to Identify your exact video card. SP is in Applications > Utilities. Select "Graphics/Displays" from SP's "Contents" pane on the left to view the specs of your card in the main pane. It wil tell you if Core Image is supported.
If you can get Leo running fine, it's better in that many programs no longer support 10.4.
Looks like yo uare in the Continental US. Call Apple at 800-MY-APPLE and ask for an operating system specialist. Tell them you need 10.5 to support new hardware. I bought that way in March, and it sounded like they wre going to keep Leo in stock for a whie because of the larger number of olders Macs that can;t run Snow Leopard or Lion.
Be very, very careful of Mac OS software on auction sites. I've seen too many that were improperly described and would not work. Likewise the gray Leopard install disk that came packed with another Mac model won't work.
I just checked--OWC does not list any Apple System software at this time.

  • What is the latest OS this iMac can run?

What is the latest version of system software this iMac can run? My data from About This Mac includes: Model Name: iMac
    Model Identifier: iMac7,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
    Processor Speed: 2 GHz
    Number Of Processors: 1
    Total Number Of Cores: 2
L2 Cache (per processor): 4 MB
    Memory: 1 GB
    Bus Speed: 800 MHz
    Boot ROM Version: IM71.007A.B03
    SMC Version: 1.20f4
If the latest version can be used, what do I need to order to get there?

Officially your upgrade path is the Mac Box Set - http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC581Z/A
But if you just want to update the OS, then the Snow Leopard disk will not mind that you're on Tiger. Remember to take a full backup beforehand - preferably a clone of the disk (Carbon Copy Cloner, SuperDuper, or Disk Utility will do this) because I think SL will fully blank the disk so you'll need the clone to do a User Migration from after the install completes.
The Box Set is the better deal if you want iLife and iWork updated too.

  • What is the highest HDD upgrade I can get on my Macbook White

I was wondering if it would be possible to upgrade my HDD to a 7200RPM 1TB 32MB Cache. Please let me know if this is possible, and its by Western Digital

If you want Western Digital the biggest 7200rpm drive that they have is a 500gb Scorpio Black with a 16mb buffer. http://www.wdc.com/en/products/products.asp?driveid=854
In the Scorpio Blue line the biggest that will fit a MacBook is the 750gb (9.5mm). but it's only 5400rpm. http://www.wdc.com/en/products/products.asp?driveid=815
The 5200rpm 1tb drive is too tall (12.5mm) to fit in the MacBook. http://www.wdc.com/en/products/products.asp?driveid=685

  • What is the best operating system i can run

Processor 2 GHZ Intel Core Duo Memory 2 GB 667 MHZ  DDR2  SDRAM, currently running Version 10.4.11
    <Title Edited by Host>

Just so you know, a Mac with an Intel processor is not a G-series Mac (i.e., yours isn't a G5).
"Best" depends upon what  you need, though if you only have a Core Duo processor and not a Core 2 Duo you are limited to OSX 10.4.11-10.6.8.  With your ocmputer I would grab a copy of Snow Leopard (10.6) before they really are all gone.
Apple no longer carries 10.6 in its stores or online. Telephone Apple to purchase a Snow Leopard disc. In the USA: (800) 676-2775 (contact information for other countries: http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57)
Alternatively you can buy from online retailers but expect to pay much more than the original price which is the price still charged by Apple

  • Late 2011 Mac Book Pro 17"; what is the highest temperature it should be running at?

Using iStat Pro I am seeing temperatures of up to 185º F or so (with the fan running very loudly at 5K RPM). What temperature should I be worried at?
It's currently on a flat surface, actually elevated on two wooden blocks. But still getting high temperatures when streaming silverlight.
    I'm on Lion 10.7.5.

    Hi mende1,
Thanks for the reply. That's disturbing to hear. My computer is nearly ALWAYS at this high temperature (or at least this is the temperature that is reported). For example, I just paused a netflix streaming video to check my mail. The fans are going at 5,500 RPM. And the temperature is listed at 176º F. But now, after only a minute, the CPU is down to 140º F (60º C) and the fans are at 2,000 RPM.
    Is that not normal behavior?
The temperature does not get that high doing any other activities (apart from maybe a flash video game).
    I should probably mention that it's a 2.4 GHz Intel Core i7 with 8 GB 1333 MHz DDR3 RAM.
Anything I should do to test it? I'm thinking of taking it into the Apple Store for a monitor issue.

  • What is the highest OS for Early 2008 Mac Book Pro?

I have an Early 2008 MacBook Pro running Snow Leopard and I would like to know the highest operating system it can run.  Thanks!

To install Mavericks, you need one of these Macs:

MacBook (13-inch Aluminum, Late 2008), (13-inch, Early 2009 or later)
MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid-2009 or later),
    MacBook Pro (15-inch or 17-inch, Mid/Late 2007 or later)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or later)
Mac Mini (Early 2009 or later)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or later)
    Xserve (Early 2009)
    Your Mac also needs:
OS X Mountain Lion, Lion, or Snow Leopard v10.6.8 already installed
2 GB or more of memory
8 GB or more of available space

  • What is the highest OS for the original mac mini?

I have a G4 Mac mini with OS X 10.4 installed.  What is the highest level OS that will run on this machine?  And what is the highest level OS that can switch over into OS9?
    Thanks-
    Robin

    1. Mac OS X 10.5.8.
    2. The capability to boot Mac OS 9 natively depends on the computer's hardware and isn't a function of Mac OS X. The last Mac OS X version to support running it in emulation is 10.4.11.
