What is the "Host Directory"

What is the "Host Directory"?

The above is correct for most Apache/Linux servers. When you are in Dreamweaver and setting up your site to use FTP, the host directory is /public_html/ and you are all set.
It is the "root" of your host, the subdirectory on the server from which an Apache or IIS server is directed to draw the initial or start page of a website from, usually "index.html," "index.htm, "index.php," "index.asp," or "index.cf" Your hosting provider will be able to tell you this.

I want to host my Muse website on Dreamhost.  When I publish it, what do I put in the "Host Directory" field?

    Hi,
I'm no expert in this but I think you:
    1) first have to buy your domain.
    2) Go to the > manage domain section > under the Web Hosting section Add hosting.
    3) Once this is all done you should be able to access your site with an FTP client.
    4) Once you are in your directory you should see the folder with your domain name.
    5) Drop your published MUSE site into the folder. You should be able to now type your
URL into a browser and see your site posted online.
If this isn't clear... I would suggest going onto dreamhost and doing a chat session with them
they are really patient and helpful!
    Hope this helps a little.

  • What is the "Master Directory Block"

I have an external LaCie firewire drive; when I plugged it in today it gave me a message saying, "This disk contains no volumes that Mac OS X can read" or something. I could then choose "Ignore", "Cancel" or "Initialize". When I clicked "Initialize", it opened up Disk Utility, and I tried Repair Disk. It said 1 volume was repaired and 1 had not been repaired, and in red it said, "Master Directory Block needs minor repair"
What is the Master Directory block, and how do I repair it?

This article, in the section titled "Design", describes the Master Directory block. I would get Diskwarrior or TechTool Pro to repair the disk.

  • How do I know what is the host-side FIFO depth?

    Hi.
In LabVIEW FPGA, the FIFO.Configure Method lets you determine the depth of the FIFO on the <u>host</u> side.
If my VIs have never included this method, is there a way of knowing how deep this FIFO has been all along?
I set my FPGA-side FIFO to be 8k deep.  What depth does the host-side FIFO default to?
I am asking because I am getting some failures in my test VI that uses FIFOs and I suspect overflows are to blame.
    Thanks,

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Here is a copy+paste from a post I made back in May 2010.  I'll add some tags to the original so it should facilitate easier searching.
The DMA FIFO is actually implemented in 2 parts, you define the FPGA size in the project explorer(actual FPGA fabric), the Host side is defined programatically (Host RAM).
There is a configure method you can run on the Host, the default for the Host side is 10,000 elements.  I would set the FPGA side much smaller, 1000 or so elements, save a lot of FPGA fabric.  Configure the Host side to 64,000 or something.
Here is a help link to the Configure method:

  • What is the best directory / location to store master document database?

I would like to store my master database containing 14GB of data on the iPhone itself, and then use that to connect to my Mac computers (either the desktop, or one of my laptops). So I have a couple of choices that I am aware of. I can store everything inside of the Documents to Go directory. Or, I can store everything inside of OneDisk because that lets me upload to the cloud. It gets a little confusing to store data in the iDisk directory on the iPhone because each file that is downloaded gets its own folder with a very long name that is worthless in terms of organization. I am happy to keep a duplicate in the cloud of all 14GB, but I want the most current database to be on my phone. For OneDisk to upload, it looks like things need to be inside the OneDisk directory. Any suggestions? I want an organizational system that can be used at least until the next iPhone comes out. Thanks.

If your XML data will not be larger than 4000 characters then use VARCHAR2 else CLOB. I don't see a need to use BLOB (unless your XML data contains binary information).

  • What is the "cores" directory at top level and their core.99999 files?

At the top level of my Disk is a hidden directory called "cores".
Within that directory are 105 files called "core.99999".
The 99999 is a system assigned number?
Each file is 380MB or very close, ie some are 381, some are 385.
Each file of a particular size appears to arise in blocks of 8, 16, or 64
My MacBook (early 2008) 4GB/750GB has been running slowly particularly when Safari builds up more than 3 Gb of Virtual Memory requirement.
I found these files after a SuperDuper! backup showed about 40Gb less on the mirrored disk than on the inbuild system disk. I went searching with GrandPerspective and they appeared, beautifully arranged at top level of the disk, with the hidden cores directory at the same level as the System, Applications, Library and Users directories.
I never saw these before in 10.6 Snow Leopard.
Can I delete them manually, or via a procedure? They take up a lot of space.
I am concerned they may be reason my MacBook pages VM very slowly as teh VM requirements of the programs I am running increases beyond 5 GB

See https://developer.apple.com/library/mac/#documentation/Darwin/Reference/ManPages /man5/core.5.html for starters. FWIW, mine is empty. So, you should be able to delete these, just ensure that you leave the cores directory in place.

  • What is the host-optimized port?

    thanks

In a nutshell, host optimized ports are over provisioned internally, while target optimized ports have full internal bandwidth.
Host optimized ports normally exist in 8 port groups, where those 8 ports share a lower bandwidth "hidden" port internally. Think of it like chaining switches internally.
Now, you can configured host optimized ports for targets, or ISL's, you just have to be careful not to over provision that hidden port that services the port group.
Here is a snipped from MDS documentation that describes how to do that
Configuring 32-port Switching Modules and Host-Optimized Ports
The 32-port 1/2-Gbps switching module contains 8 port groups of 4 ports each. When configuring these modules or the host-optimized ports in the Cisco 9100 Series, the following guidelines apply:
•Any (or all) full line rate port(s) in the Cisco MDS 9100 Series can be included in a PortChannel.
•The host-optimized ports in the Cisco MDS 9100 Series are subject to same PortChannel rules as 32-port switching modules--only the first port of each group of 4 ports is included in a PortChannel.
-You can configure only the first port in each 4- port group (for example, the first port in ports 1-4, the fifth port in ports 5-8 and so on) as an E port. If the first port in the group is configured as a PortChannel, the other three ports in each group (ports 2-4, 6-8 and so on) are not usable and remain in the shutdown state.
-If any of the other three ports are configured in a no shutdown state, you cannot configure the first port as a PortChannel. The other three ports continue to remain in a no shutdown state.
In the Cisco MDS 9100 Series, the left most groups of ports outlined in white (4 ports in the 9120 switch and 8 ports in the 9140 switch) are full line rate like the 16-port switching module. The other ports (16 ports in the 9120 switch and 32 ports in the 9140 switch) are host-optimized like the 32-port switching module. Each group of 4 host-optimized ports have the same rules as for the 32-port switching module.

  • What are the host network requirements for a 2012 R2 failover cluster using fiber channel?

I've seen comments on here regarding how the heartbeat signal isn't really required anymore - is that true?  We started using Hyper-V in its infancy and have upgraded gleefully every step of the way.  With 2012 R2, we also upgraded from 1gb iSCSI
to 8GB Fiber Channel.  Currently, I have three NICs in use on each host.  One for "No cluster communication" on it's own VLAN.  Another for "Allow cluster network communication on this network" but NOT allowing clients, on
a different VLAN.  And lastly the public network which allows cluster comms and clients on it (public VLAN).
Is it still necessary to have all three of these NICs in use?  If the heartbeat isn't necessary any more, is there any reason to not have two public IPs and do away with the rest of the network?  (two for fault tolerance)  Does Live Migration
still use Ethernet if FC is available?  I wasn't sure what all has changed with these requirements since Hyper-V first came out.
If it matters, we have 5 servers w/160GB RAM, 8 NICs, dual HBAs connected to redundant FC switches, going to two SANs.  We're running around 30 VMs right now.
Can someone share their knowledge with me regarding the proper setup for my environment?  Many Thanks!

    Hi,
You can setup cluster with a single network but that leaves you with single point of failure on the Networking front, it is still recommended to have a heartbeat network.
Live migration would still happen though Ethernet, it has nothing to do with FC. Don't get confused, you had iSCSI for storage which used one of your VLAN and now you have FC for your storage.
Your hardware specs looks good. You can set up the following networks -
    1. Public Network - Team two or more NICs (based on bandwidth aggregation)
    2. Heartbeat Network - Don't use teamed Adaptor
    3. Live Migration - Team two or more NICs (based on bandwidth aggregation)
Plan properly and draw guidelines to visualize and to remove single point of failure at all points.
Feel free to ask if you have some more queries.
    Regards
    Prabhash

  • What is the /net directory?

    Hi,
I just noticed a /net directory on my machine. I checked it out using ls. It contains a number of directories with the hostnames of assorted websites. I can't seem to cd into these directories - the operation just hangs. What is going here?
    Thanks.

It should be info on a server that you may have been connected to.
