What is the ideal font size?, What is the ideal font size?

Hi Guys! I'm wondering if you can suggest the right Font size for my iPhone 5S. Its more of like asking for your opinion. Thanks!

That really depends on the individual and your eyesight...and the font size changes when you go from portrait to landscape orientation.
For those of us over 50, the larger the font the better

  • What font is used in the Lion sidebar

    Hello there...
Does anyone know what font is used in the Lion Sidebar?
You can see it all over the OS for example, it's also used in Mail to show all the folders and Mailboxes...
I know how to adjust the size, I just want to know the name of the Font.
My guesses are Calibri or Lucida Grande but I'm not sure.
    Thank you

    Hello David,
Unfortunately it is definately not Helvetica. You can see differences in the letter shapes. It's particularly noticable in "e" and "a" characters...
Pasting into TextEdit will simply inherit the font used in the document, which for a new TexEdit file is Helvetica Regular.
    Anyone else have any thoughts?

  • What´s the font used to compose the Illustrator screens?

    Hi
An user asked me outside the forum but I was not able to answer...this question now is more for curiosity than asking him.
What´s the font family used in the Adobe Products (Illustrator spec...)...I mean what´s the font family used to compose the dialog boxes and menus?
Would be a system font like Arial, Tahoma or so on?
    Thank you a lot.
    Gustavo.

    Gustavo,
Adobe system fonts are 'Bitmap fonts', or 'Pixel fonts'.
These are designed as fixed pixel patterns. Scaling is possible
only by integer factors 2,3 and so on (e.g. for tests).
The doc below tells you how to get them, but I didn't test it.
    http://www.pcworld.com/article/52364/windows_tips_make_desktop_text_easy_to_read.html
Verdana is a (scalable) OpenType font, where the contours are
defined by Bézier curves. This font is not used for the menues
(would look terrible, if downscaled for that size).

Just bought brand new new iMac. When browsing in Safari, sometimes the text suddenly gets super large. I'm doing nothing except reading the screen, tho I usually have my hand resting lightly on the mouse. I can get back to normal size by clicking "actual size" in View. But then it does it again a minute or two later. What gives? Something seems defective--but what?

From System Preferences, Mouse, Point & Click, Secondary click.  Go to it hover over Secondary click and watch the short video sequence change it left right, left right, you will see exactly what is does. No I do not think your Mouse is defective, you simply need to take control of your Mouse finger.

  • This is about the still image size changing from what I see on the computer monitor and what the burned DVD shows on the TV

I have Prem.El 12 and have used PE4 for years.  I have a new PC that runs Win7Pro.  The still images on the computer monitor are within the "safe margins".  The still images after the movie has been burned to a disk are MUCH smaller on the TV screen.  Is this an issue of 16:9 vs 4:3 ratios?  My TV is 4:3.  Can I tell PE12 to make the movie a 4:3?

    retchemteach
Although I have seen your post of today in my Inbox Email Notifications, that post has not yet appears in this thread. It will probably will sooner or later. But, to keep things moving along....this is a copy of what I am seeing as your message of today in my Indox Email Notifications
Thank you for your patience in the time it is taking me to get back to you.
I am still trying to buy some DVD-RW discs and will hopefully do that in a
bit.  Meanwhile, I have more info for you and some simple (I hope)
questions.  If you want to insert your answers, that would be fine.
My camera (for stills and video) is set to the 4:3 ratio.  It is capable of
being set to a 16:9 ratio if I wanted to do that.  I looked in its TOOLS
    menu and saw this info.
My TV is definitely a 4:3 TV.  (I measured it with my tape measure and
divided W/L to get 1.33)  The TV can show a 16:9 movie and just adds the
black bars on the top and bottom.  Question: What will my old 4:3 movies
look like on a 16:9 TV whenever we buy one of those?
It seems to me that I want to set PE12 to the NTSC DV Standard you
    mentioned.
I do NOT know how to “size your photos so that each has a 4:3 aspect”,
unless you mean doing that in Photoshop Elements, which I know how to do
    (*see below)
I had NOT considered that I would need to watch the preset for the
‘Publish+Share’ step; so that’s good to know (I copied and pasted your info
    for later use).
BTW, years ago when I had difficulties with my XP computer working on PE4
(had only 2 GB RAM), an Adobe tech told me to resize my photos * to have a
720 pixel width (the height would be automatically adjusted) to lower the
file size to something my computer could handle without crashing.  (That
was back in the good ol’ days when Adobe support would actually talk with
their customers and try to help them in the first month)
My new computer has 16GB RAM.  Do you think I still need to reduce file
size?  One does lose some sharpness in the resizing process…..however,
these videos I’m making are travelogues and are for a fun way to view pics
and videos of a trip…nothing Earth shattering….and just a hobby to keep me
    off the streets.
I truly appreciate the time you take to help me (and others).  I was even
tempted to try to install my old PE4 on my new computer just to be able to
    enjoy my hobby again.
    My reply to the above....
    1. If you camera is giving you 4:3 photos and your Premiere Elements 12/12.1 is running on Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 64 bit, then leave
the photos as is unless you have a lot of photos and each has pixel dimensions sizes way over 1920 x 1080 pixels that are giving your computer resource issues. If you have to down size them because of computer resources, then copy the photos to a computer desktop folder and also create an empty folder on the computer desktop.
    a. Photoshop Elements Editor, File Menu/Process Multiple Files.
    Process Files form Folder
Source - browse to and select the computer desktop folder with photos to be resized
Destination - browse to and select the empty computer desktop folder
    Image Size
Check Mark Next To Resize Images
(no check mark next to Constrain Proportions)
Type in Width = 1000  (set units for pixels)
Type in Height = 750 (set unites for pixels)
    File Size
Check Mark Next to Convert Files To
               Set for JPEG High Quality
The above should work fine for a NTSC DV Standard project with a burn to DVD disc with preset NTSC_Dolby DVD (4:3 video).
    2. With regard to the TV Set and 16:9 video....when you have the DVD-player attached to the TV, do you have the opportunity to bring up a display of menus with
controls for Picture and Aspect Ratio? From what you have written so far, it looks like the answer is no. I am not sure how your TV DVD
    player will handle 16:9.
Best do a mini test run
    1. Project preset set manually to NTSC DV Widescreen (please refer to post 1 link)
    A few photos sized for 1600 x 1200
In the Premiere Elements project, use the Safety Margins inner rectangle for text placement
    Publish+Share/Disc/DVD disc with preset = NTSC_Widescreen_Dolby DVD.
See what that looks like on your TV DVD player.
If you discovered that your current TV DVD player can be set for a 16:9 display, then I have a preferred workflow for
NTSC DV Widescreen which typically gives best possible results. Hints of things to come.
Please review and consider. Thanks for the follow ups.

How to export a PDF to a word document? at the moment it came up with "The encoding (CMap) specified by a font is missing ????? what can I do?  thanks

    Hi frenchiem,
This is due to the PDF file cannot display the original fonts. To fix it, creator should create the PDF file with the embed font option enabled. Thus, user can open the file on any platform with the same layout. Or the Acrobat product can display them after you install the appropriate font support package on the client side.

If you place in Muse - an image with either height or width larger than 2048 pixels - Muse scales the image down proportionately, limiting the larger dimension to 2048.
However, if you want to use the placed image at its original size, you can scale the image up to desired size either by dragging the resizing handles or by entering Height and Width values in the Control Strip on top. After that, go to the Assets panel and locate the image in there, then right click that image in Assets panel and choose "Import Larger Size". That would bring back the lost image information from the original image.
Hope this gives you clarity on what you wanted to know.

  • What's the best quality export for a 720 X 480 size, 24fps mp4 file?

    Whats the best quality export for a 720 X 480 size, 24fps mp4 file?
This movie trailer will be sent to a distributer overseas.
The export I been resorting to lately is MPEG 2 DV High Quality as oppose to anything HDTV because it just shrinks the picture, obviously lol
Do I have anymore options besides Mpeg 2: NTSC DV High Quality?

Lagarith is a codec that you install separately.  A very brief Search would have given you that info.
You can access the Lagarith option (once installed) using the Microsoft AVI format, and selecting Lagarith under Video Codec in the Video tab.

Thanks for this Gary. Much appreciated. Will help with future ones.
Still a bit like using keynote in 'safe mode' and very limiting.

  • FAQ: What font is used by the London Underground (London Transport)

This summer, while on vacation in the UK, I spent a few hours in the London Transport Museum. Surprisingly enough, in their gift shop, two items for sale attracted my attention. One was a book and the other, a collection of fonts!
Every so often, the question comes up on this forum and others as to exactly what font is used in the London Underground. The book in question,
Johnston's Underground Type by Justin Howes definitively answers that question and provides quite a bit of background on the subject.
To summarize, the basis of the font used today is
Johnston Sans, dating back to 1916. Johnston Sans also had an upper case-only bold face. These two faces were used with various modifications until 1988 when the font was modernized with the release of
New Johnston, a family of nine typefaces based upon Johnston Sans. The family includes light, light italic, medium, medium italic, medium condensed, bold, bold italic, bold condensed, and stencil weights / styles. New Johnston Medium most closely resembles the original Johnston Sans face in terms of weight and style.
Neither the original Johnston Sans nor the current New Johnston are licensed by London Transport for any external use.
However, at the London Transport Museum (and I believe on-line from the P22 Type Foundry), you can purchase a license and media for P22's rendition of Johnston Sans including three faces - P22 Underground, P22 Underground Bold (uppercase only), and P22 Underground Extras (symbols associated with London Transport over the years). Included on the CDROM are both Type 1 and TrueType versions of the typefaces in both Windows and Macintosh formats. The designs were officially licensed from London Transport. The EULA (End User License Agreement) carries some
very strict restrictions with regards to embedding in PDF or any other file type as well as commercial use of any printed output formatted with these typefaces.
A fairly close (and less restrictively-licensed alternative) to the P22 package or for Johnston Sans and New Johnston (neither of which are available for license) is ITC Johnston, available in Type 1 and TrueType versions in both Windows and Macintosh formats. Fifteen individual typefaces are available including old style figures and small caps, italic styles, as well as light, medium, and bold weights. Alas, they are not (yet) available in OpenType format.
In any case, further information and background is available in
Johnston's Underground Type by Justin Howes.

  • What's the best settings to Export movie for smaller file sizes?

Hi, I've been working on some helmet cam footage which was taken with Xvidmpeg4.avi and was advised to convert it to dvavi for editing in PrE, this created a huge file to work with, the original footage was 206mb and the finished edited dvavi file is now 1.56gb, what settings can I use to export the movie with a much smaller file size, but hopefully try to retain some quality, to upload to places like Vimeo? I thought I would try to export it in the same as the original footage Xvidmpeg4.avi thinking this might compress it again to something like the 206mb of the original and the original was good quality footage, but PrE just hangs up with a box stating 'Xvid Status (Not Responding)' and when I try to cancel that the whole thing crashes and closes? So when I go to File > Export > Movie, what would be the best settings in:
    General > File Type ?
    Video > Compressor
lots of options under compressor if I select the file type as Microsoft AVI, so I'm guessing something under that would compress it to a smaller file size but what, I could spend all night trying different settings so hoping for some advice?
Or, if I'm completely in the wrong place for the settings and should be doing something else please tell me?
    Thanks, Gav

Thanks for the replies, but to me it's still confusing - simply because there are so many settings, if I go to Share/Personal Computer I'm then presented with a whole load of settings
    NTSC Flash Video
    MPEG
    DVAVI
    Windows Media
    QuickTime
and under each of those is a lot more advanced settings?
I'm guessing I wouldn't use flash or quicktime, so which of the others would I use and what are the advanced settings to use as I can't find anything that is .wmv or .mov
What I've done with other videos that I've exported from PrE as dvavi is then to put it through Windows Movie Maker, Publish Movie, This Computer, then put the settings to Windows Media DVD Quality (PAL) (3.0 Mps) - this seemed to be the only setting that reduced the file size considerably but still had good quality, but it's still about twice the original file size?
This all seems long winded to me, open original file, convert original file, output another file, then output the file again in something else which then results in loss of quality and a larger file than the original? I'm ending up with lots of files, was hoping just to edit in Premiere then export/publish that edited clip and that would be it, then upload to the net.
Is it not possible to just edit my original footage and save it, just like you would with something like a word document, should I be using something else and not Premiere?
    Thanks.

It sounds like you might have accidentally hit the zoom button. Try hitting ''CTRL + 0'' to return it to normal size. Just so you are aware, ''CTRL'' and ''+'' will zoom in and ''CTRL'' and ''-'' will zoom out.
