What is the «iPhoto Library link» file for ?

Hi ...  In the Pictures (Images in French) folder, what is the «iPhoto Library link» alias file for ?  It points to the «iPhoto Library»in the same folder.

Robert, the link (alias) you are seeing is not created automatically by iPhoto. It must have been created accidentally. Perhaps you tried to repair your iPhoto library by holding down the key combination option-command ⌥⌘. if you dragged the library a little while doing this, it could have created this alias, because holding down these keys and dragging is one of the ways to create aliases.

  • Can the iPhoto Library package file be recreated?

I recently moved my iPhoto library to a new LaCie solid state external hard drive, because it had reached 130GB in size and was taking up too much space on my hard drive. My iPhoto library has 30,000 photos with lots of events, smart albums and metadata (faces, keywords, etc.). Unfortunately the external hard drive failed and I had to pay for data recovery services. When I got the external hard drive back, the Masters folders were all there with my photos, but the iPhoto Library package file seems to be missing. Is there anyway to recreate the iPhoto Library package to include all the files AND the associated metadata?
I found instructions on how to start from scratch by importing the Masters...but this method does not retain metadata. Any ideas would be really appreciated. Worst case scenario, I can go back to a Time Machine back-up from June 2014 and use that as a starting point, but I'd much rather not have to take that route.

but the iPhoto Library package file seems to be missing.
You cannot recreate the iphoto library package from your Masters folder. It is an intricate web of linked files.  Use your most recent backup as a starting point, and then add the newer files from your recovered Masters folder.

  • What Does the iPhoto Library File Contain?

Does the iPhoto Library File (located: User -> Pictures -> iPhoto Library) contain both i) the images and ii) the layout, photo sizing, photo positioning, etc. for a Book Project created in iPhoto 08? I want to move a Book Project that I have created on computer "MacA" to another computer "MacB." MacA and MacB are not on the same network, so I will need to copy the file(s).
I want to be certain that the iPhoto Library File (described above) contains ALL OF THE FILES necessary to successfully move the Book Project from MacA to MacB. Will someone kindly confirm this. Thank you. Dale

If you have not changed the default setting for "copy imported items to the iPhoto library" then you iPhoto library is totally self contained and can be successfully copied to another Mac with the same or newer version of iPhoto - if you have changed that preference (strongly not recommended) then you will have great difficulty in moving your library

  • What is the best standard SoundFont file for SB Audigy

There are 2 soundfont files come with the installation software. They are CT2MGM.SF2 and CT4MGM.SF2. CT2MGM.SF2 has a smaller file size (2 MB) but has a newer soundfont version (v 2.) while CT4MGM.SF2 has a larger file size (4 MB) but has an older soundfont version (v 2.0). I wonder what is the best soundfont file for my SB Audigy ES. Can I use the larger soundfont file (ie. 8 MB) with my card and how can I get it's Thank all for your help.

I doubt if you'll find enough duplicated files to make a difference.  Also there may be numerious files with the same name that are needed.  Running some of the general dup finders can damage iPhoto libraries.
You best bet is to get an external HD, formatted OS X Extended (journaled) and move files to it.  Many move their iPhoto and iTunes libraries to the EHD and run them from there.  That ususally frees up a lot more space than the recommended minimum free space, 10 - 15 GB.

  • HT5037 What is the iPhoto Library Upgrader tool?  Should not need it, because installed Photo 9.5.1 three days ago, AND my iphoto will not open. The message says if I have v8.x or later, I don't need this tool.

Why is my iPhoto 9.5.1 blocked?
Message on pop up screen says I need the Library Upgrader tool, when in the very discription of it: "If your library is from iPhoto (v8.x) or later, you don't need to use this tool."

What version of iPhoto did you have prior to upgrading to iPhoto 9.5.1?  The following is from this download page: iPhoto Library Upgrader 1.1
This tool prepares libraries from iPhoto 7 or earlier so they can be upgraded with the current version of iPhoto.
So if you previous version of iPhoto was 7 or earlier you need to download (it installs in the Applications/Utilities folder), launch and apply it to your iPhoto Library before opening the library with iPhoto 9.5.1.

  • HT1176 I am trying to add my iPhoto library to files to be backed up on time machine. I am told to click on the Options Minus butto, but it is greyed out. What is the solution ?

I have been trying to add my iPhoto Library to files for time machine backup.
I was instructed to click on the Options minus button - but it is greyed out and not functional.
    What is the solution ?
Your help will be much appreciated.
    Thank you.
    Roberto Kay

You can "see" the iPhoto library in Time Machine backups, but you cannot "open" the library or "browse" the contents while you are in Time Machine.
Apple makes you restore the entire iPhoto library to another destination...like your desktop....if you want to retrieve a few older images that you may have deleted by mistake.
This is a convoluted mess, but unfortunately, that is the way it is.
See Pondini's excellent, detailed information on this:
    http://pondini.org/TM/15.html
You might also want to post in the iPhoto support area to see if the experts over there might have a workaround for you. I cannot find one, but I'm not an iPhoto expert.

  • Is the iPhoto library supposed to be located in the iCloud Drive folder?

    27" iMac (2011) Yosemite / iCloud Drive
Is the iphoto library / database file supposed to be in the iCloud Drive?  I expect it to normally be found in the Pictures folder under the active user.  If it is not supposed to be there how did it get moved there.  The iPhoto library is also locked and is over 200 Gigabytes in size.  (see attached image)
My theory is that someone tried to move it to the iCloud Drive, without understanding the limitation.

As long as the user has purchased adequate disk space for the iCloud Drive, they can move their photo library to it. It can be anywhere so long as one modifies iPhoto so it knows where to find it.

  • Iphoto library.tmp file - can i delete it?

I'm wondering if I can go ahead and delete the iphoto library.tmp file. It's over 2.5 GB and it basically seems to be duplicates of photos from 2008. I'm not sure why it's there. Anyone know if it's okay to delete it to free up a few extra GBs?

    Where is this file located?

  • Editing the iTunes Library.itl file?

I'm going back to iTunes v6 from v7. The iTunes Library.itl file for v7 doesn't work with iTunes v6 so I had to go back to my old version of the file (last one from v6).
Problem is I added about 7 CDs while in v7 and none of this is coming up (album art, ratings, music files) in the old v6 iTunes Library.itl file.
Is there anyway to extract the info for the new stuff from the v7 iTunes Library.itl file and include it into the v6 version of that same file?
    Please?

I would seem that you are.
The XML file is provided for 3rd party support. It allows other applications to interrogate your library. iTunes doesn't normally have any cause to read it back or make use of it.
Create a smart playlist with the rule Checked is True. Drag the contents of this into a new playlist called iPhone Tunes (or similar), Select the Songs list and CMD-click on any empty playlist. Delete the initial playlist. Sync your device with iPhone Tunes. Drag new stuff into it when you want, delete stuff when it gets too big.
That's the simple way of reworking your current selections into a more flexible set up. There are other things you could do like create smaller size-limited playlists along the lines of "Recently Played", "Recently Added", "Not Played In Ages", "Top Rated", along with say a regular list called "Essentials" which, once set up, would allow you to have some rotating content on the device without having to do any extra work.

  • Everytime I open iphoto, my computer tells me A photo has been found in the iPhoto Library that was not imported.  Would you like to import it.  no matter what I do, iphoto puts the pic in recovered files.  How do I fix this?

Everytime I open iphoto, my computer tells me,  A photo has been found in the iPhoto Library that was not imported.  Would you like to import it.  If I import it, a message comes up Unreadable file, the following file could not be imported. them it tells me where the file is and it cannot be opened.  If I do not import, then it says,The photo has been placed in the folder /Users/patrick*******/Pictures/iPhoto Library Recovered Photos_4.  It will just keep adding to recvovered photos.  This drives me crazy!!!!!!!  How do I fix this?

I had this problem some months ago and the following solution from Terrence Delvin put things right:
Go to your Pictures Folder and find the iPhoto Library there. Right (or Control-) Click on the icon and select 'Show Package Contents'. A finder window will open with the Library exposed.
Look there for a Folder called 'Import' or 'Importing'.
Drag it to the Desktop. *Make no other changes*.
    Start iPhoto. Does that help?
If it does then look inside that folder on your desktop. Does it contain anything you want? If not you can trash the folder.
However, since connecting a memory stick to my computer, I now have the same problem again.  This time there is no folder called 'Import' or 'Importing' so what should I do?

  • I am using iphoto 6.06 for my intel imac.  I have been trying to print pictures from iphoto and i keep getting a message that states " the picture you are trying to print is in the iphoto library"  what can i do to be able to print a photo from iphoto

I am using iphoto 6.06 for my intel imac.  I have been trying to print pictures from iphoto and i keep getting a message that states " unreadable file: the following file could not be imported.  the file is in the iphoto library folder"  also when i try to print a picture from iphoto i get a message that says "no page was selected"
not sure what happened but i can pnly print when i drop the photo onto my desktop as an 8.5 x 11 size picture and i am trying to print 4x6's

Since the new library gives you the same message log into another user account on your Mac and see if you can run iPhoto without getting that message.  If you get that message there also a reinstall of iPhoto seems indicated. To do so you'll have to delete the current application and all files with "iPhoto" in the file name with either a .PKG or .BOM extension that reside in the HD/Library/Receipts folder and from the /var/db/receipts/  folder,
Then install iPhoto from the disk it came on originally and apply all available updates to it.

  • What are the iphoto files I need to restore iphoto library deleted from drive

A few days ago my hard drive started making noises and I was getting all sorts of errors.  I even got errors trying to do a time machine backup with the final error being "backup failed".
Earlier last week I imported a couple hundred photos of my kids from Christmas to present which also included our vacation last month.  I deleted the photos from my camera after the import.  Then foolishly, I didn't think to do any time machine backups between then and the time my hard drive started making noise.
I bought a new SSD drive.  I could still access the bad drive so I moved my pictures directory from the bad drive to the new drive.  It took nearly two hours.  It appeared to have moved everything, but it did not move the iphoto library.  The pictures directory is gone from the old hard drive.
I purchased FileSalvage and recoved thousands of deleted jpg files from my old drive, but none appear to be the pictures I lost.
It appears that FileSalvage will recover specific file types.  There doesn't seem to be a way to just tell it to recover the deleted "pictures" directory or recover "iphoto library".
If I was able to specify specific file names to restore, what files would I even need to specify?   I have iphoto 11.
I came across an article about iphoto library files from iphoto 6 and previous versions which explained the following iphoto files: library.iphoto6, albumdata.xml, Thumb32Segment.data, Thumb64Segment.data, ThumbJPGSegment.data, etcxxxxx.
    mmm
Does iphoto 11 use similar file names?  I'm not concerned with keeping my iphoto database in tact.  I just want my pictures.
Maybe I'm asking the wrong question.  Any advice on how to get my pictures back would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!!
    MH

Simply, you can't recover the iPhoto Library. What you need to do is try recover the Photos that were in it. These will be saved as jpeg files* and that's what you need to search for. Recovering all the other files will do no good. You won't be alble to reconstruct the Library. Your aim is to get the Photos and then start over.
The search may find many files of the same name, try to recover the largest files - they are most likely to be your originals.
