What is the latest MAC OSX that my Macbook 2,1 can support?

What is the latest MAC OSX that my Macbook 2,1 can support?  It came with 10.4.11Lion.
I am upgrading my harddrive and would love to install the most current OS that I possibly can.
I also have a Macbook 3,1 with OSX 10.5.8 Leopard that I want to do the same with.  If they can both run the same OSX that would be helpful too.
Thanks a MILLION!

Both of those MacBooks can run up to 10.7 Lion. (10.4.11 is Tiger) It's the RAM that you'll need to upgrade.
First you'll need to upgrade to 10.6 Snow Leopard.  The 10.6 Snow Leopard DVD is in the Apple online store. You can get it for $19.99. After you’ve installed that then download the 10.6.8 combo updater to finish it off. http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399 You will need to be running 10.6.8 to access the App Store to order Lion, http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
System Requirements for 10.6:
Mac computer with an Intel processor
1GB of memory
5GB of available disk space
DVD drive for installation
Some features require a compatible internet service provider: fees may apply.
You can put two 2gb RAM sticks in your model 2,1 but it can only use 3,3gb. This is a hardware limitation and cannot be changed.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/3_GB_barrier
http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/macbook_pro/faq/macbook-pro-core-2-duo-3-g b-memory-limitation-details.html
OWC tests have found that there is a slight speed increase with having two 2gb sticks in rather than one 1gb and one 2gb. Your model is in the gray lines at the bottom of the graph. http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/Memory_Benchmark/Apple_MacBook/
You can upgrade from 10.4 straight to 10.6 with no problems as long as you have at least 1gb of RAM. Any program that runs under 10.4 should run under10.6. See this list for third party programs compatibility with 10.6: http://snowleopard.wikidot.com/  You might have to upgrade some drivers for printers, etc.... And you will have to install Rosetta if you have any Power PC applications
http://www.macobserver.com/tmo/article/snow_leopard_installing_rosetta/
I recently upgraded an older MacBook (Early 2006 model 1,1) straight from 10.4 to 10.6.
Once you are at 10.6.8 Lion is still available from Apple. You will have to call Apple Customer Care 1-800-692-7753 or 1-800-676-2775. to purchase it. Then within 3 days you will get an email with a code which you can use to download Lion from the App Store. Or go to http://store.apple.com/us/product/D6106Z/A/os-x-lion and purchase it there. The price is $19.99.
You must have at least a Late 2006 model 2,1 MacBook.
Lion will require at least 2gb of RAM but really needs 4gb to run smoothly.
As for third party programs see this list for compatibility with 10.7 http://roaringapps.com/apps:table
Also Lion doesn't run any Power PC programs. To see if you have any Power PC programs go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info. When System Profiler comes up select Applications under Software. Then look under Kind to see if any of your applications are listed as Power PC. Universal and Intel will run under Lion.
Before Mac switched to Intel processors in 2006 they used Power PC processors from 1994 to 2005. Power PC 601 through 604, G3, G4 and G5. Applications written for the Power PC processors need the application called Rosetta to run on Intel processors. This was part of the Operating System in 10.4 and 10.5 but was an optional install in 10.6. With 10.7 Lion Apple dropped all support for Power PC applications.

i'm using an old macbook from 2007 can you help me

Choose About this Mac from the Apple menu and check the processor.
If it's a Core Duo Mac, click here, install the DVD, and run Software Update.
If it's a Core 2 Duo or better Mac, follow the Core Duo instructions, open the Mac App Store, and try purchasing Mountain Lion. If you get told it's incompatible, phone the online Apple Store and order a download code for Lion.

  • What is the latest Mac OS that will run Acrobat 6

What is the latest Mac OS that will run Acrobat 6

Ok, it's a PPC app. That means it needs Rosetta. Rosetta was gone by Mac OS 10.7, so that is out of the question.
Rosetta is an option you can install in 10.6. So it may be possible in that system.
Acrobat 7 listed as its official requirements "10.2.8 or 10.3" but it still runs as of 10.5, from my testing.
Acrobat 6, though is from the early days of Mac OS X. (Acrobat 5 was released for Mac OS 9), In 2003, we were on Mac OS 10.3.
It might run in later systems, I suspect the first thing to fail would be the Adobe PDF printer driver.

  • What is the latest Mac OS X that I can run on my 2.33 GHZ Core 2 Duo Macbook Pro?

My MBP was running the fan almost constantly and otherwise acting odd so I decided to just refresh the installation from scratch. At that time I was running Lion 10.7.5. Before rebuilding everything with that version I want to make sure running Lion on this machine isn't contributing to my issue.
What is the latest Mac OS X that I can run on my 2.33 GHZ Core 2 Duo Macbook Pro?
I have every OS release since the original purchase so I can rebuild on the one that's most stable on this laptop.

You can run Mt. Lion if you so wish:
    http://www.apple.com/osx/specs/
If you want the most efficient OS, I would suggest Snow Leopard.
However I suggest doing some investigation prior to installing a new OS.  First do a SMC reset:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3964
Also run an Apple Hardware Test.  Use the #2 disk on your original install disk.
If there is no improvement, post back.
    Ciao.

  • HT4587 I downloaded Airport Express Utility 5.6 to get my Airport Express to work with the latest Mac OSX 10.7.4, but when I install and run it, it still says my Airport Express is out-of-date and needs the 5.6 utility.

I downloaded and installed Airport Express Utility 5.6 to get my old Airport Express to work with the latest Mac OSX 10.7.4, but when I install and run it, it still says my Airport Express is out-of-date and needs the 5.6 utility. What's up?

It is likely that you downloaded AirPort Utility 5.6.1.  If you checked the requirements, this only runs on Leopard or Snow Leopard Macs.
You have Lion, so you need AirPort Utility 5.6 for Mac OS X Lion

What is the newest Mac desktop that will run OS9.1?

Everymac web site with Apple model listing - http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/index-apple-specs-applespec.html
Check the above web site.  Unless somebody can give you a concise answer here you can start browsing different models and their boot requirements.  The system information is located in the lower half of each model's page.  Look at G4s and early G5s.
Note that anything that can run 10.4 or earlier will also support Classic.  Not all applications run well in Classic but many do.  If the primary purpose of the computer is to run this software it can be a bit tiresome to have to have Classic running all the time.  I find it okay to use but only work with it once a month for an hour or less.
My computer (G4 Quicksilver) boots to early OS9 natively but can also run anything up to OSX 10.5.  I can boot to OS9 but have neve needed to do so.

  • What is the amount of DVDs that an iMac DVD Burner can burn? (or MTBF)

What is the amount of DVDs that an iMac DVD Burner can burn (DVD burner life time)? (or MTBF)

Your question sounds a bit like you want to use the Superdrive professionally? Personally, I would not depend on a vertically installed, super slim Drive where any media can easily shift by 1/100th of an inch. I've noticed that mine definitely needs to "rest" and cool off after about 3 DVDs. I purchased an external burner quite a few years ago (when I had an iMac without a Superdrive) and I still prefer to use it - it is sturdy, can read all sorts of media, and is reliable whereas the SuperDrive is known to be extremely finicky especially about the media they will read or write to.
So, I don't have a specific answer for you, but I wouldn't rely on it.

  • What is the latest Mac running 10.8

I am planning to buy a new iMac. I understand that the iMacs Apple is selling now will not run 10.8. While I can afford to buy a new iMac I can't affordto buy and relearn all the key software which will not run on Maverics. I recently went through that when updating to 10.8 after waiting years for software to become compatible.
What is the latest iMacs I can buy that will run 10.8?

If it can run Mountain Lion then it can run Mavericks, so that is what will be installed unless you buy a used one. The most recent iMac will run a special build of 10.8.5. 10.8.5 retail should work on all eligible iMacs which are the same models that can also run Mavericks.
    Upgrading to Mavericks
You can upgrade to Mavericks from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mavericks can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for FREE.
    Upgrading to Mavericks
To upgrade to Mavericks you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Download Mavericks from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mavericks is free. The file is quite large, over 5 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
        OS X Mavericks- System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mavericks
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 2,1 or later
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.

  • What is the max file size that a Adapter Engine [J2SE] can handle ?

We are having a scenario where a 4 GB compressed file needs to be sent across without mapping, I'm trying to explore the possible options to tackle this scenario.
Some of the options, we are considering :
    - Sending a file from one Adapter Engine [J2SE] to another Adapter Engine [J2SE] bypassing PI. Adapter Logs will be monitored. What is the maximum file size that can be then handled assuming a standard installation ?
    - What is the max file size that Adapter Engine [J2SE] can send through PI without mapping?
Any help with the above options or with any other possible solutions to handle extremely large file transfers will be much appreciated.

    Hi,
j2se is not a good option here
if you have 4gb then you need a copy solution
    a) build an proxy that will just copy the file from sender dest to receiver
    b) build an adapter that will do the same as proxy)
this way processing of this message will be controlled with SAP PI/XI
it will be as quick as copy & paste of the 4gb file
I did the a) for one of the flow for 300 mb and it works perfectly

  • What is the latest Mac OS X I can download from apple for the eMac?

I want to update the OS X on my eMac, but can not afford OS X 10.5.8. I currently have OS X 10.4.11. I am looking for the latest OS X I can download for free from apple or any other website that will carry a newer OS X for my eMac. I did find a disk one for OS X 10.4.2 in the trash the other day, but not sure if it's a newer OS X or even if I need a disk 2. Here are my specs:
      Machine Model:          PowerMac6,4
      CPU Type:          PowerPC G4  (1.2)
    CPU Speed:          1.42 GHz
L2 Cache (per CPU):          512 KB
      Memory:          1 GB
      Bus Speed:          167 MHz
      Boot ROM Version:          4.9.2f1
    Please Help,
    Eddie

The highest all eMacs can go to is Leopard 10.5.8. Like the others said, an install CD set is the only way to do this, I don't know if apple has them anymore but they usually go for around $60 online and eBay. Once you upgrade to 10.5.8, you can run safari 5.0.6, which lets you do almost anything online. Or on the other hand, for the $60 you'd spend on a CD set you could probably buy another used mac online which already has 10.5.8 for almost the same price.
    Best regards,

  • What are the "latest.mac-50unlp" and 51,52,53,54 about/for

My Mac with FireFox downloaded these 5 items on my computer early this morning but I have no Idea what they are for or what they do. I just do not want any problems. My settings did not allow me to open Interactive Broker unless I allowed this software to download.
    Thanks, Jim

    Jim,
Unfortunately I cannot find anything on the internet related to those file names, however I understand "My settings did not allow me to open Interactive Broker unless I allowed this software to download. "
Are the files related to that software?
You can try to set all software/extensions related to the files in Firefox ask to activate, but if these are not update files perhaps a malware scan?
