What is the latest Mac running 10.8
I am planning to buy a new iMac. I understand that the iMacs Apple is selling now will not run 10.8. While I can afford to buy a new iMac I can't affordto buy and relearn all the key software which will not run on Maverics. I recently went through that when updating to 10.8 after waiting years for software to become compatible.
What is the latest iMacs I can buy that will run 10.8?
If it can run Mountain Lion then it can run Mavericks, so that is what will be installed unless you buy a used one. The most recent iMac will run a special build of 10.8.5. 10.8.5 retail should work on all eligible iMacs which are the same models that can also run Mavericks.
Upgrading to Mavericks
You can upgrade to Mavericks from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mavericks can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for FREE.
Upgrading to Mavericks
To upgrade to Mavericks you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Download Mavericks from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mavericks is free. The file is quite large, over 5 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
OS X Mavericks- System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mavericks

What is the latest Mac OS X that I can run on my 2.33 GHZ Core 2 Duo Macbook Pro?
My MBP was running the fan almost constantly and otherwise acting odd so I decided to just refresh the installation from scratch. At that time I was running Lion 10.7.5. Before rebuilding everything with that version I want to make sure running Lion on this machine isn't contributing to my issue.
What is the latest Mac OS X that I can run on my 2.33 GHZ Core 2 Duo Macbook Pro?
I have every OS release since the original purchase so I can rebuild on the one that's most stable on this laptop. You can run Mt. Lion if you so wish:
http://www.apple.com/osx/specs/
If you want the most efficient OS, I would suggest Snow Leopard.
However I suggest doing some investigation prior to installing a new OS. First do a SMC reset:
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3964
Also run an Apple Hardware Test. Use the #2 disk on your original install disk.
If there is no improvement, post back.

What is the latest Mac OS that will run Acrobat 6
What is the latest Mac OS that will run Acrobat 6
Ok, it's a PPC app. That means it needs Rosetta. Rosetta was gone by Mac OS 10.7, so that is out of the question.
Rosetta is an option you can install in 10.6. So it may be possible in that system.
Acrobat 7 listed as its official requirements "10.2.8 or 10.3" but it still runs as of 10.5, from my testing.
Acrobat 6, though is from the early days of Mac OS X. (Acrobat 5 was released for Mac OS 9), In 2003, we were on Mac OS 10.3.
It might run in later systems, I suspect the first thing to fail would be the Adobe PDF printer driver. -
What is the latest MAC OSX that my Macbook 2,1 can support?
What is the latest MAC OSX that my Macbook 2,1 can support? It came with 10.4.11Lion.
I am upgrading my harddrive and would love to install the most current OS that I possibly can.
I also have a Macbook 3,1 with OSX 10.5.8 Leopard that I want to do the same with. If they can both run the same OSX that would be helpful too.
Thanks a MILLION!Both of those MacBooks can run up to 10.7 Lion. (10.4.11 is Tiger) It's the RAM that you'll need to upgrade.
First you'll need to upgrade to 10.6 Snow Leopard. The 10.6 Snow Leopard DVD is in the Apple online store. You can get it for $19.99. After you’ve installed that then download the 10.6.8 combo updater to finish it off. http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399 You will need to be running 10.6.8 to access the App Store to order Lion, http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
System Requirements for 10.6:
Mac computer with an Intel processor
1GB of memory
5GB of available disk space
DVD drive for installation
Some features require a compatible internet service provider: fees may apply.
You can put two 2gb RAM sticks in your model 2,1 but it can only use 3,3gb. This is a hardware limitation and cannot be changed.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/3_GB_barrier
http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/macbook_pro/faq/macbook-pro-core-2-duo-3-g b-memory-limitation-details.html
OWC tests have found that there is a slight speed increase with having two 2gb sticks in rather than one 1gb and one 2gb. Your model is in the gray lines at the bottom of the graph. http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/Memory_Benchmark/Apple_MacBook/
You can upgrade from 10.4 straight to 10.6 with no problems as long as you have at least 1gb of RAM. Any program that runs under 10.4 should run under10.6. See this list for third party programs compatibility with 10.6: http://snowleopard.wikidot.com/ You might have to upgrade some drivers for printers, etc.... And you will have to install Rosetta if you have any Power PC applications
http://www.macobserver.com/tmo/article/snow_leopard_installing_rosetta/
I recently upgraded an older MacBook (Early 2006 model 1,1) straight from 10.4 to 10.6.
Once you are at 10.6.8 Lion is still available from Apple. You will have to call Apple Customer Care 1-800-692-7753 or 1-800-676-2775. to purchase it. Then within 3 days you will get an email with a code which you can use to download Lion from the App Store. Or go to http://store.apple.com/us/product/D6106Z/A/os-x-lion and purchase it there. The price is $19.99.
You must have at least a Late 2006 model 2,1 MacBook.
Lion will require at least 2gb of RAM but really needs 4gb to run smoothly.
As for third party programs see this list for compatibility with 10.7 http://roaringapps.com/apps:table
Also Lion doesn't run any Power PC programs. To see if you have any Power PC programs go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info. When System Profiler comes up select Applications under Software. Then look under Kind to see if any of your applications are listed as Power PC. Universal and Intel will run under Lion.
Before Mac switched to Intel processors in 2006 they used Power PC processors from 1994 to 2005. Power PC 601 through 604, G3, G4 and G5. Applications written for the Power PC processors need the application called Rosetta to run on Intel processors. This was part of the Operating System in 10.4 and 10.5 but was an optional install in 10.6. With 10.7 Lion Apple dropped all support for Power PC applications. -
What's the latest version running on an old G5 PPC?
Guys,
I want to re-activate my old G5 to speed up rendering/transcoding jobs using distributed computing.
However, I can't find out what's the latest version of Compressor running on my PPC?
I found an old version 2.0 on a CD and installed it, doesn't work: qmasterd not running.
No way to fix it, millions of error messages in the log....
My only hope is to find out which version I can max upgrade!
Any help/info appreciated,
cheers
BobAFAIK, it runs fine. Like any iOS update, you'll always find folks with problems. However, the vast majority of users never experience any issues.

What is the latest Mac OS X I can download from apple for the eMac?
I want to update the OS X on my eMac, but can not afford OS X 10.5.8. I currently have OS X 10.4.11. I am looking for the latest OS X I can download for free from apple or any other website that will carry a newer OS X for my eMac. I did find a disk one for OS X 10.4.2 in the trash the other day, but not sure if it's a newer OS X or even if I need a disk 2. Here are my specs:
Machine Model: PowerMac6,4
CPU Type: PowerPC G4 (1.2)
CPU Speed: 1.42 GHz
L2 Cache (per CPU): 512 KB
Memory: 1 GB
Bus Speed: 167 MHz
Boot ROM Version: 4.9.2f1
Please Help,
EddieThe highest all eMacs can go to is Leopard 10.5.8. Like the others said, an install CD set is the only way to do this, I don't know if apple has them anymore but they usually go for around $60 online and eBay. Once you upgrade to 10.5.8, you can run safari 5.0.6, which lets you do almost anything online. Or on the other hand, for the $60 you'd spend on a CD set you could probably buy another used mac online which already has 10.5.8 for almost the same price.
Best regards, -
What is the latest mac osx for my macbook
i'm using an old macbook from 2007 can you help me
Choose About this Mac from the Apple menu and check the processor.
If it's a Core Duo Mac, click here, install the DVD, and run Software Update.
If it's a Core 2 Duo or better Mac, follow the Core Duo instructions, open the Mac App Store, and try purchasing Mountain Lion. If you get told it's incompatible, phone the online Apple Store and order a download code for Lion.

What's the latest Mac OS I can use with my older G4 Mac?
Hi Everyone,
My oldest Mac, a G4 running at 350 gHz, still has OS 9.2 and I'd like to upgrade the OS to the best version the Mac can handle. I tried calling the Apple CAre hotline and a kind AppleCare specialist asked for my old Mac's serial number, and said I could install OS 10.4.
Well, a good friend of mine happened to have Mac OS 10.4.7, but it won't install. It starts, but goes into basic and states it's hanging.
Apparently, 10.4 is too advanced or, did I do something wrong?
Where on the Apple website can I find which OS would work best on my older Mac?
Thanks. If that computer has never had an OS X newer than OS X 10.1 installed in it,
you probably should check the Firmware (boot ROM) version noted in the
OS 9.2 running system's "System Profiler" to see what the firmware version is.
And then see if the computer needs to have the Firmware Update applied
before attempting to install an OS X version into the computer. It will need to
have a running OS 9.1/9.2 kind of system booting the computer in order to be
able to install a Firmware Update.
Lack of the proper firmware update can compromise the computer's hardware.
• Available Firmware Updates - Mac OS X:
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1395
The installation instructions are should be carefully read & understood.
Also, in older iMacs and other early PPC Macs, you have to be sure the
computer's hard disk drive size capacity is correct, if upgraded to a larger
capacity hard drive; some old models need to have a small (8GB) partition
for the OS installation. Later ones don't require this, but may have a limit
on the total capacity of a drive used in certain older computers.
For general specifications on several different Apple hardware (and OS)
products, you could download a fairly good database of information from:
• MacTracker:
http://mactracker.ca
To see about purchasing an OS X 10.4 full install disc (aka retail) you could
check the auction sites or local Mac user groups, craigslist ads, and other
local dives or recycling centers; or try calling the main Apple sales support
number as shown in the Apple web site, 1-800-MY-APPLE and ask to speak
to a product specialist for Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard, if the person you talk to
does not appear to know about the older no longer listed Leopard install discs.
Be prepared to purchase when you call; the phone number is not a retail store.
(You may have to pay significantly more than their asking price for questionable
goods through some auction; and some web resellers of discs sometimes sell
the incorrect discs, in an auction sale, for more than the cost direct from Apple.)
Hopefully you aren't planning on a modern experience in that old a Mac.
Good luck & happy computing! -

What are the "latest.mac-50unlp" and 51,52,53,54 about/for
My Mac with FireFox downloaded these 5 items on my computer early this morning but I have no Idea what they are for or what they do. I just do not want any problems. My settings did not allow me to open Interactive Broker unless I allowed this software to download.
Thanks, JimJim,
Unfortunately I cannot find anything on the internet related to those file names, however I understand "My settings did not allow me to open Interactive Broker unless I allowed this software to download. "
Are the files related to that software?
You can try to set all software/extensions related to the files in Firefox ask to activate, but if these are not update files perhaps a malware scan? -

I have a Power Mac G4 1.25 Ghz 1 GIG Ram, what is the latest OS X I can run?
I have a Power Mac G4 1.25 Ghz 1 GIG Ram, what is the latest OS X I can run? I am currently running Jaquar. Where can you obtain older versions of OS X?
Actually you can run up to Leopard 10.5. It requires a G4 867mHz processor so you are comforatbly over the minimum specs.
That said, I offer two caveats regarding Leopard that may make Tiger 10.4 more appealing:
1) Leopard may want more than 1G RAM. With currently available modules, you can take your Max RAM to 2GB. You can install up to 2GB RAM.
2) If you don't have a video card that supports Core Image, things can be choppy. My 1.25 G4 is a tad sluggish with Leo because I have the original ATI Radeon 9000 64MB VRAM vid card. If you have a Redeon 9600 or higher, you likely have Core Image Support. Use System Profiler to Identify your exact video card. SP is in Applications > Utilities. Select "Graphics/Displays" from SP's "Contents" pane on the left to view the specs of your card in the main pane. It wil tell you if Core Image is supported.
If you can get Leo running fine, it's better in that many programs no longer support 10.4.
Looks like yo uare in the Continental US. Call Apple at 800-MY-APPLE and ask for an operating system specialist. Tell them you need 10.5 to support new hardware. I bought that way in March, and it sounded like they wre going to keep Leo in stock for a whie because of the larger number of olders Macs that can;t run Snow Leopard or Lion.
Be very, very careful of Mac OS software on auction sites. I've seen too many that were improperly described and would not work. Likewise the gray Leopard install disk that came packed with another Mac model won't work.
I just checked--OWC does not list any Apple System software at this time. -
I downloaded and installed Airport Express Utility 5.6 to get my old Airport Express to work with the latest Mac OSX 10.7.4, but when I install and run it, it still says my Airport Express is out-of-date and needs the 5.6 utility. What's up?
It is likely that you downloaded AirPort Utility 5.6.1. If you checked the requirements, this only runs on Leopard or Snow Leopard Macs.
You have Lion, so you need AirPort Utility 5.6 for Mac OS X Lion -
I have a 2007 (Imac7,1) running Snow Leopard (10.6.8). What is the latest OX I can upgrade to? I want to get t the Cloud and I can't
Minimum requirements for iCloud is v10.7.5 Lion.
See if your Mac can run Lion > OS X Lion - Technical Specifications
You can purchase Lion here > OS X Lion (10.7) - Apple Store (U.S.)
After the purchase Apple will send you an email notification with a redemption code you can use at the App Store to downlaod Lion.
BEFORE you do that, see if your Mac can Mavericks > OS X Mavericks: System Requirements
If so, you don't need to purchase Lion.
You can download Mavericks from the App Store for free.
