What is the latest OS this iMac can run?

What is the latest version of system software this iMac can run? My data from About This Mac includes: Model Name: iMac
Model Identifier: iMac7,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
Processor Speed: 2 GHz
Number Of Processors: 1
Total Number Of Cores: 2
L2 Cache (per processor): 4 MB
Memory: 1 GB
Bus Speed: 800 MHz
Boot ROM Version: IM71.007A.B03
SMC Version: 1.20f4
If the latest version can be used, what do I need to order to get there?

Officially your upgrade path is the Mac Box Set - http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC581Z/A
But if you just want to update the OS, then the Snow Leopard disk will not mind that you're on Tiger. Remember to take a full backup beforehand - preferably a clone of the disk (Carbon Copy Cloner, SuperDuper, or Disk Utility will do this) because I think SL will fully blank the disk so you'll need the clone to do a User Migration from after the install completes.
The Box Set is the better deal if you want iLife and iWork updated too.

I have a Power Mac G4 1.25 Ghz 1 GIG Ram, what is the latest OS X I can run?  I am currently running Jaquar.  Where can you obtain older versions of OS X?

Actually you can run up to Leopard 10.5. It requires a G4 867mHz processor so you are comforatbly over the minimum specs.
That said, I offer two caveats regarding Leopard that may make Tiger 10.4 more appealing:
    1) Leopard may want more than 1G RAM. With currently available modules, you can take your Max RAM to 2GB. You can install up to 2GB RAM.
    2) If you don't have a video card that supports Core Image, things can be choppy. My 1.25 G4 is a tad sluggish with Leo because I have the original ATI Radeon 9000 64MB VRAM vid card. If you have a Redeon 9600 or higher, you likely have Core Image Support. Use System Profiler to Identify your exact video card. SP is in Applications > Utilities. Select "Graphics/Displays" from SP's "Contents" pane on the left to view the specs of your card in the main pane. It wil tell you if Core Image is supported.
If you can get Leo running fine, it's better in that many programs no longer support 10.4.
Looks like yo uare in the Continental US. Call Apple at 800-MY-APPLE and ask for an operating system specialist. Tell them you need 10.5 to support new hardware. I bought that way in March, and it sounded like they wre going to keep Leo in stock for a whie because of the larger number of olders Macs that can;t run Snow Leopard or Lion.
Be very, very careful of Mac OS software on auction sites. I've seen too many that were improperly described and would not work. Likewise the gray Leopard install disk that came packed with another Mac model won't work.
I just checked--OWC does not list any Apple System software at this time.

Leopard is no longer available at the Apple Store but may be available by calling Apple Phone Sales @ 1-800-MY-APPLE (1-800-692-7753).
If you can't obtain a retail install DVD from Apple, look on eBay or Google the installer part numbers to possibly find at an on-line store. Here's what to look for:
    MB427Z/A  Leopard 10.5.1 install DVD
    MB576Z/A  Leopard 10.5.4 install DVD
MB021Z/A  Leopard 10.5.6 install DVD (single user)

Unfortunately, you cannot do very much with your phone unless you get assistance from the previous owner, they should either provide you with the password to unlock it or remove their account from the phone entirely remotely through iCloud.com > Find My Phone.

  • HT1338 I have a Mac Pro Dual Core, 3 Ghz, that I purchased in the Spring of 2007.  What is the latest OS that i can upgrade to?  And is that OS compatible with Logic 10?

I have a Mac Pro Dual Core, 3 Ghz, that I purchased in the Spring of 2007.  What is the latest OS that i can upgrade to?  And is that OS compatible with Logic 10?

Logic Pro 10 requires OSX 10.8.4, which is not officially supported on your Mac Pro (must be Early 2008).
There are, however, unofficial workarounds to install 10.8 on those older models that you can search for on Google.

  • What is the latest Mac OS that will run Acrobat 6

What is the latest Mac OS that will run Acrobat 6

Ok, it's a PPC app. That means it needs Rosetta. Rosetta was gone by Mac OS 10.7, so that is out of the question.
Rosetta is an option you can install in 10.6. So it may be possible in that system.
Acrobat 7 listed as its official requirements "10.2.8 or 10.3" but it still runs as of 10.5, from my testing.
Acrobat 6, though is from the early days of Mac OS X. (Acrobat 5 was released for Mac OS 9), In 2003, we were on Mac OS 10.3.
It might run in later systems, I suspect the first thing to fail would be the Adobe PDF printer driver.

  • What is the latest, older model iMac that has a DVI port. I do not want a Mini-Display Port

I want to use an iMac for my seminar. My projector only accepts VGA connections. I currently use my MacBook Pro using a cable that has DVI Male on one end and VGA Male on the other.  I can't get a Mini-Display to VGA adapter.
What is the latest, older iMac that I can buy that has a DVI-D output? All the new models at the Apple Store have Mini-Display ports only.
    Thank you.
    www.ImagineThatToo.Org

The Early 2008 iMacs were the last models with DVI output. They have a mini-DVI port.
However, Apple sells mini-DisplayPort to VGA adapters, as do 3rd party developers.

  • MacbookPro2,1 Model identifier: what is the latest OSX that is worth running on this hardware?

    Hi All,
I'm running Snow Leopard (10.6.8) with few problems. This system seems to be right on the bubble for Mavericks support. http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/macbook_pro/specs/macbook-pro-core-2-duo-2 .33-17-specs.html seems to say the hardware was released in between October 2006 and June 2007, too early for the "mid to late 2007" requirements posted here: OS X Mavericks: System Requirements. When I try to update to Mavericks the updater just says "OS X Mavericks cannot be installed on this computer." Since I have 2 GB of RAM and 54GB free hard drive space, I'm assuming the problem is in the chipset of the motherboard instead of the peripherals.
My question to you is what is the most recent/best OS to run on this machine if I want to keep it connected to the interwebs.
Safari 5.1.10 is already on notice by gmail as obsolete, and I'd love to get the benefit of the security patch for BASH.
    Thanks!

Rule of thumb is "if ain't broke, don't fix it." I can almost guarantee that if the install sez 'no way' there is no way to upgrade OS.
The problem is not the OS but the load thereon.
First thing, you say "... 54GB free ..." disk space (on the internal HD) ?? OS X needs 10% MINIMUM free for regular duty. The more free the better.
Photoshop is the greedy one of the bunch... Dreamweaver is a WYSIWYG text editor, and AI is vector all the way.
PShop needs a lot of scratch space for large OR a lot of images open at once. Default is the Startup drive. I have heard many photo retouch pros state that PShop's scratch should be on a dedicated drive for that purpose only.
What I would do is launch Activity Monitor to the Active Processes pane and occasionally watch how much RAM and VM each are using - don't change your normal WorkFlow until you can get a feel for what you normally consume.
Updating OS X will likely just make for a greedier system before you start consuming assets with Apps.

  • What is the latest OS and iMac model that would support CS2?

I'm trying to figure out how to go about selecting the "right" iMac to suit my current needs and means. Like many folks (I'm guessing), I don't have the money to upgrade every time a)apple comes out with ANOTHER new generation of iMac/OS b)Adobe comes out with updated versions of their software suites.
What I need to know is:
    1) Do the current iMac Intel CPU's (or the newest Mac OS) support software as old as Adobe CS 2?
    2) If the current iMac's no longer support my software, what is the most current generation of iMac's to do so?
    3) I would like to connect an additional monitor (I have an older 17" apple cinema display) to my iMac. Can anyone suggest iMac models that would accomodate my need?
    4) Any suggestions of reputable sellers of older generations of Apple products, new or refurbished? Any sellers that should be avoided?

    1) Yes and no. Yes CS2 will run on Intel based Macs but the performance may be a bit slower. The next problem is that Adobe does not fully support CS2 to run in Leopard. It will run but you might come across small glitches once in a while.
    2) To avoid the Leopard compatibility issue you would need an ALU iMac from 2007 or earlier that comes with OS X 10.4(Tiger).
    3) You would need to purchase two adapters. A mini DVI to DVI connector and the ADC Power adapter for the display which is about $100.

    http://store.apple.com/us/product/M8661LL/B?fnode=MTY1NDA5OQ&mco=MjE0NTg4NA
    4) I would prefer an Apple certified refurbished iMac but they may not have one old enough for what you want.
If you don't have the money to upgrade everything including your software you might consider purchasing a used G5 tower. That way you can run Tiger and CS2 without any problems and still use your current LCD without having to buy any expensive adapters.

  • In-car adapter for macbook air - what's the latest on this please?

I've got the latest macbook air and need to use it, and charge it, from a 12 volt car socket. I understand that I cannot do this though - surely I must have been misinformed?
It seems that apple do make an "empower" socket rated at 15 volts that you can use on a plane, but it doesn't recharge the battery. However, clearly this limits the usefulness of sorting out some kind of rig-up, suggested in some chat rooms, with a dc-dc (ie 15v - 12v) adapter.
Does anyone know where a dc in-car adapter for a macbook air is available?

Modern Outpost is coming out with a MacBook 12V DC car adaptor, and are hoping to add an Air adaptor in the near future...
    http://modernoutpost.blogspot.com/
I see the comments about using an AC Inverter, but I prefer to speak about solutions that will work with solar chargers too. An AC inverter will not only NOT work from a solar panel without extra & heavy equipment, but it wastes more than 20-40% of your power... first it converts your battery power to dirty household AC, then your Apple adaptor converts it back to DC for your Mac.
I suggest using a DC adaptor and bypass the middleman.
Modern Outpost's website has nothing posted yet...
