What is the life of an Apple bluetooth keyboard

I.have.had.a.27ins.iMac.since.2009...the.keyboard.now,.has.several.faulty.keys.. .....(inc.the.space.bar)...
How.long.should.it.last.....no.spills.no.other.problems.
iMac/.27ins.2009.Snow.Leopard

That's around the same length of time I have had mine.  I have now gone through all the solutions posted around the Net and still have non-functioning keys.
I don't know what else I can do except buy a new keyboard, but that seems a pretty poor solution to a problem which really should not arise in only three years of use - and no abuse from me.  I wonder whether the Sale of Goods Act is applicable - one should be able to rely on a product functioning for a decent length of time.  What that is in this case is probably open to many interpretations.
Apple products are not, it seems to me, above reproach.  But,as they are, in my opinion, streets ahead of any others then I shall stick with it.  Unfortunately I cannot afford to buy another Apple keyboard so will have to get by with a wired microsoft one for now, although it goes against the grain.
It seems a shame that, although this problem has been around for a while, Apple does not seem able - or willing - to solve it.
Either it is a hardware or a software problem and until it can be identified I am left wambling around in the dark - not a happy place to be.

  • Why can't I use the spacebar on my Apple bluetooth keyboard to wake my iMac?

I'm pretty sure I was able to use Apple's Bluetooth keyboard to wake the machine before. The only solution I have so far is use the power button on the back of the iMac to wake it and worse, not letting the hard drive sleep in the first place. Neither of these options suit me very well.  Anyone have a suggestion?
    Thanks!!

    Hi iNstaPro,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
If your iMac isn't waking from sleep reliably, I'd try these steps from our display troubleshooting article:
    Reset the system
You can reset the Mac's parameter RAM and SMC.

  • Apple Bluetooth keyboard connection hangs

Hopefully someone has an answer for this: just in the past few days the connection to my Apple Bluetooth keyboard has started to hang.
These are the symptoms: I try to connect it through the Bluetooth Setup Assistant. I can get as far as inputing the pass key and hitting "return", then I get the "congratulations, your device is connected" message. Then immediately after that my connection is lost, and I can no longer input through the keyboard. It's still recognized through the Menu Bar and System Preferences, though.
Battery life is not a problem; System Preferences shows 3 bars. Replacing w/ fresh batteries hasn't helped, either. I've tried both the "enter" and "return" keys after entering the pass key; no dice. I've also tried deleting the device out of System Preferences starting fresh -- again, no results.
This keyboard has been fine all year; my wireless Mighty Mouse is working fine right now. Any ideas? -- Thanks in advance

I already have multiple devices and by far I like my iPad the most over laptops and the iPad. That including checking out my friends MacBook Air.
The difference for me is the touch interface on the screen itself for things that do not require a lot of typing. For me, the iPad is more "magical" than anything else I've used.
Again, I do appreciate your answers but you don't know my situation. Not everything is as it is perceived without knowing me and what I have to go through.

You can find the Apple Bluetooth card on eBay for as little ten dollars (says its for the 2008 model Mac Pro, not sure about the 2007).

Here is a link to a full explanation of the card and how to install it. Part numbers may differ a bit as that is an old article and newer models have come out.

Just make sure that the part will work in your model Mac Pro. To that end, you may be better off avoiding eBay and going to a parts reseller. There are even third party cards that use the internal Apple bluetooth slot.

In theory, using a USB or PCI card will work at login so long as it is recognized by Apples drivers. You say you need to launch an application to use your current USB Bluetooth dongle? If it is not controlled by the Bluetooth icon in the menu bar then it must be using a third party driver of some sort. Unfortunately, I don't know off hand which USB and PCI cards are supported.

  • Not sending what I type on Apple Bluetooth keyboard

I have an iPad Air running 8.0.2 and an Apple Bluetooth keyboard. When I type on the keyboard, I don't get what I type for many characters. For example, if I type a "d", I consistently see "ds" on the screen. When I type "q", I consistently see "qz". sometimes it just starts sending "'" repeatedly without me typing anything.
I have tried deleting the keyboard from the Bluetooth (forget this device), taking the batteries out of the keyboard, turning the iPad all the way off, restarting the iPad, putting the batteries back in the keyboard, pairing again, and see the exact same behavior.
I'm seeing this while typing into an email.
I started in 8.0.0 with the same problem and then upgraded. I had not tried to use this keyboard for a while. The batteries were dead, so I put in new ones, paired it again (having removed the pairing earlier) and saw this problem.
Is this some setting that is incorrect? How do I correct this.

thats weird - after iOS8 upgrade, whenever i click on the edit box and start typing nothing happens until I repeatedly tap on the edit box.  I find that tapping faster eventually fixes this kb/typing issue

What is the life expectancy of the hp laser jet p3015 printer?

What is the life expectancy of the older base stations (flying saucer/spaceship looking one) and what are the telltale connection signs that it's starting to go?
Apple has never published any life expectancy specifications for any of their routers (or desktops/laptops) that I am aware of. As a rule of thumb, I would consider two years for any consumer electronics that operates 24 x 7 to be a reasonable period. Obviously some experience more or less and it would depend on a number of factors: ambient temperature, electrical circuit stability, area prone to lightening strikes, etc.
Some telltale signs that an AirPort has (or is about to fail):
Status lights are not illuminated or do not match any of the known configurations.
Unit feels cool to the touch after power is applied even after a lengthly (15-30 minutes) period of time.
Unit refuses to intialize, even after performing multiple "factory default" resets.
    Weak or no wireless signal.
    Ethernet port(s) not functioning
    Etc.
Also, are there any compatiility issues with newer models and G5/G4s?
    Three potential issues:
Depending on the version of OS X you are running on these clients, they may not be able to support the latest AirPort Utility required to administer the latest AirPorts. OS X 10.5.7 is the minimum required.
Support for 802.11n connectivity. Most G5 or G4 Apples support 802.11g, some only 802.11b.
Support for WPA2. Not supported if the G5 or G4 is equipped with the Original AirPort Card.

I have no idea except it should be many years.. However, you should almost fully discharge the battery monthly to maximize the battery life in in the eventwant to use it on the battery.

  • What's the maximum number of Apple TVs that can be displayed in the AirPlay list?

We have 50 conference rooms all on the same network and are considering equiping each one with an Apple TV for AirPlay Mirroring our iPad 2s to the rooms projector, or TV. What is the maximum number of Apple TVs that can be displayed in the AirPlay menu to select the correct Apple TV for the conference room being used?

From what you're saying it sounds as though you wouldn't want to Airplay to all AppleTVs at once, just identify them when that specific room in use?
This is one of those uncharted territories wheer most domestic users will not require such a set up - Apple provide no official info about this, but they'd be your best source to ask.

  • What are the procedures for getting Apple to remotely wipe all my data off my ipad that was stolen? I have no hope of recovering it. Please advise asap...thanks!

What are the procedures for getting Apple to wipe the data off my original ipad I bought two years ago. I had it stolen from a hotel room over the weekend and it is not password protected and no I did not download app to find it.
Any hwlp would be greting appreciated!

Apple can't do it, only you could potentially do it if you had enabled Find My iPad on it before it was stolen.
If it was stolen then you should report it to the police. As a safety precaution you should also change your iTunes account password, your email account passwords, and any passwords that you'd stored on websites/emails/notes etc.
