What is the likleyhood on sync in iTunes being reinstated?

I have been a Mac owner since the mid 80s and iTunes user since its inception. Each morning I sync my Mac Pro, iPhone ans iPad using iTunes.
When iCloud first appeared I naively went on with it only to find I ended up with my huge and rambling contacts list with duplicates and no way of knowing which was the latest.
Since, as I saw it, iCloud offered no benefit to me I just continued as before, and gave up with iCloud for almost everything.
Mavericks does not allow me to work this way. I don't want to work with iCloud, not least since I don't believe I have a right to make my contacts information public in any way.
My computer is currently on a 10 hour restore from my Time Machine backup to 10.8.5. Then I have to update all the files to date.
This is monstrously annoying.
This morning I cancelled my order for a full spec Macbook Pro I made last week.
I had been looking forward to updating my old Mac Pro with one of the new swish cylindrical ones. Now I will not be able to.
Does anybody think Apple will respond by reinstating this functionality or are even the computers going to become like mobile devices?
If they do I, for one will be relieved (and order the Macbook Pro again and probably the Mac Pro too)

Currently your options are
1. (as mentioned) revert to your last OSX from the system backup you made.

Other than that, nobody except Apple knows what they intend doing in the future.

In older itunes the updates on one device would sync to itunes. but now what is the point of apps in itunes other than to waste space? if i backup a device, all apps seem to come from the internet. if i update then don't sync to itunes on pc so i end up download all updates 3 times (ipad/iphone/itunes).

Is the device backing up to iTunes on the computer or iCloud?
If backing up to iTunes on the computer, any content purchased from iTunes (apps, media, podcast, etc) will transfer during the backup/sync process.
If backing up to iCloud, content does not transfer automatically.
The purpose is to have a local backup of content. This is beneficial in the event that content is removed from iTunes and the user wants to reinstall or restore the device.

When the phone is connected to the computer in iTunes, go to the Info tab and select Outlook as the source for Contacts and Calendars. Tasks will not sync, but Notes can be selected to sync as well.

Here's what I do when I have iTunes problems and it works 9 out of 10 times. I have Ccleaner; It's a wonderful tool to have. If you don't have it, google it and install it, just the free version. You'll see the list of all of your installed programs in there to unstall (among of a host of other things you could do with that program) but anyway, right click on Apple Software first to repair, when done then right click on Apple Application Support to repair, then when done with that, right click on iTunes to repair that and all should be well after that. No uninstall should be necessary at all when you do all that.
