how many photos i can manage with aperture 2.1.3? i have some of 60,000 referenced photos divided in 2 years, and Aperture is very slow...only one library and only referenced files.
i have a dual core mac pro 2,66 ghz and 6 gb ram but it looks it's not enough. I'm considering to create a year per year library and relative database but in that case i will loose the benefits of a whole database fixed in a singolar aperture library.

as a conceptual answer, i agree with you.
but in my "particular" case here is the difference:
i work with 6 gb of ram in a dual core processor. i have a temporary storage for projectcs that i'm actually working on it, resident in a internal 500 gb sata hd.
the rest of the archive on/off line is resident in firewire hd. avalaible when necessary. I studied a lot to create my personal storage sistem. Aperture for me is a powerfull database manager. I didn't loose any of my 50.000 photos in these two years and i know excactly where is any photo of these.
Again, the problem occurs even if i work offline searching the database through off line images. I believe that my storage sistem is ok, all my previews images are generated in 1400 px size (very light preview)
and only when i decide not in bacth for everything.
So what can i say more? Another thing i noticed is that Aperture seems not realizing that images are really stored in the folder from where i want to import.
I just went to upgrade my hardware but seems Aperture didn't have a benefit. Shall be a problem of integration between Aperture 2.1.3 and Mac ox 10.5.7....

I attached the UltraMax Plus with a USB cable. The UltraMax powers the cable so power is not an issue. I can open other files. Also, there is 500GB of files on the drive so I cannot re-format it. Although, I noted I could import the entire Aperture Library. However, I do not want to create a duplicate on my machine because that would be defeating the purpose of the external drive.

I have a procedure and it contains the cursor which will fetch more than 500 records. And i have 5 output parameters to store the values coming from the cursor. I don't want to store that into custom table. I want to save it one table type array or something like that. Now i want to know what is the maximum storage of array table type? If i store more than 500 data, how will be the performance? Then is there any other way to achieve this? And that should not decrease the preformace.Let me know your thoughts.

It really depends on what you are planning to do with the records once you return them from your stored procedure, and what client is on the receiving end of the results.
One option would be to just return a ref cursor and let the client deal with retreiving the rows themselves, whether one by on or by a bulk collect. Another option would be to declare a table of records matching the result set and do a bulk collect into that table type in your procedure and return the table type to the caller. You could also declare a table type for each field in the resultset, bulk collect the records into thos types and return one for each field.
Personally, I would likely go with returning a ref cursor. Both of the collect the resultset in your procedure and then return collections to the caller methods require memory on the database server to hold the entire resultset and memeory on the client to hold the entire resultset. While 500 records is probably not going to be too bad on memory, if the result set grows, you will run into memory issues at some point.

One should really make the difference between db_name and instance_name: if instance_name default value is db_name it can be different
(even on a non RAC database).
For example with Oracle 10.2.0.4 you can create a database named DB78 with instance_name=DB12345678:

Satellite Pro 4600 - What is the maximum HDD size?

My aged Satellite Pro 4600 has a 20GB HDD. As these are now very difficult to get hold, does anyone know whether higher capacy HDDs can be used and, if so, what is the maximum size of HDD.
(In spite of it's age I still use the Satellite Pro for certain jobs.)

This is a pretty old notebook, Satellite Pro 4600 ;)
As far as I know this notebook has a 28bit LBA limitation and that means you can only use HDDs up to 128GB or lets say HDD with a capacity of 120GB.

Normally you can every HDD up to 120GB but dont forget that the HDD must have a IDE connector.
I have good experience with Western Digital and Seagate HDDs.

There is no size limit on mailboxes up to the maximum size of your database. I normally recommend 2GB mailbox limits if you have some form of archiving in place. If you have no archiving in place then the limit should be set at the amount of
data people need to keep - it is not a good idea for people to store mail in PST files because there is a limit on their mailbox.

Well maybe you have to set the size of the Label to the size of the Image - use setPreferredSize() to set the size of the label....
otherwise you can do something like this :

Hate to resurrect a dead horse but....I was looking in the instructions for memory upgrades and the instructions specified that the computer will only recognize 3 gigs. Will that still be in effect if I upgrade to Snow Leopard when it becomes available? Or do I need to save my pennies for a Mac Pro? What I am getting at is: is the reason for the RAM cap due to software issues, 64 bit not being native, different version of leopard used on notebooks, or is it due to hardware issues.

Technically speaking the VM has a restriction according to plattform. W2k is somewhere around 1,2G and Solaris, I believe, 4G.
Say for instance I was on a W2k box I allotted 500+ for my J2EE Engine that would leave me with the possiblity to upload close to 600mb documents max.
