What is the maximum display resolution that the 2012 mac mini supports?

Looking at buying the new Mac Mini, the specifications say that it has the Intel HD Graphics 4000 graphics card but no further details on the specs supported. I am interested in what the maximum display resolution supported is.
Anyone know?

The 2012 Mac Mini's are listed on this article. Can I run windows 7 64-bit on it and/or the 32-bit?

I would buy nothing less than Windows 7 64-bit Pro.
32-bit only addresses 3.5 GB RAM ... 2012 Macminis can hold 16 GB.
64-bit Home addresses 16 GB RAM.
64-bit Pro addresses 192 GB RAM and han an XP mode.
This is all about having a good version of Windows for future use.  Yu can buy "Syem Builder" version of 64-bit Pro for $140.

Can I download iWork? Or could I just download Microsoft office from the Microsoft website so I don't have to buy a disk drive?

  • What does the new mac mini really look like? raised or not?

looking at the images on the mac mini page http://www.apple.com/macmini/ it clearly shows the mini with it's front edge resting on the ground in all the images from the front. the reflections touch. but when you follow the 'Design' link it shows that the new mini is resting on a raised foot, so it floats.
i'm pretty sure the floating version is the real version, but why the inconsistency?

it's not an optical illusion. it's just wrong in the images. i agree with the people who made the illustrations, it looks better when it's flat on the ground and not floating.
    http://www.macrumors.com/2010/06/16/mac-mini-mid-2010-teardown-photos/
that gives you a better idea of what the new mac mini looks like from the front in a similar angle to the images on apples site. notice the very large gap between the reflection and the front face of the mini. also notice the large black shadow caused by the mini being raised up on the black circular foot on it's base. There isn't an angle that you you can move the camera to that would eliminate the shadow or distance between the reflection and the case and still see the front face as you do in the images.
it's just an odd inconsistency that misrepresents what the final product looks like.

I gave the latest OS update to my 2012 Mac Mini. After it supposedly finished the system restarted and stayed on the white Apple startup screen for more that 15 min. I turned the system on and off various times to no avail. How can I fix this problem?

I would like to use my early 2008 imac (MB325LL/A) as an external monitor for the late 2012 mac mini,(not ordered yet). Is this possible in any manner? The iMac utilizes mini-DVI output, thus my hopes are not too good.

  • Display issue on late 2012 Mac Mini

My display flickers as described elsewhere (Mac mini EFI Firmware Update 1.7). When I tried to download and boot it I got a message "The software is not supported on your system". My image flicks from normal to all "pink and turquoise". Late 2012 model.
Strange thing is that when I check Display in System Preferences and check "best for this display" it proposes 60 Hz NTSC even if I installed it and used it in Sweden which is PAL territory. I have to admit that I bought the Mini in US, but according to the salesman it should work anywhere and my last Mini was also bought in US and worked without any problems for five years in Europe.
    Any ideas

  • Display goes black (Late 2012 Mac Mini)

Late 2012 Mac Mini (2.6Ghz Core i7, 16GB, Fusion drive).
Was previously connected to an Apple LED Display (displayport).  I shuffled things around so it's connected to an Apple Thunderbolt Display and HP Compaq LA2405wg via HDMI --> DVI with the included adapter.
Everything will work fine for a while, including NIC Teaming (LACP) with the internal gigabit & Display ethernet.
Occasionally -- and especially today -- the Display will just go black, like it went to sleep.  I can still hear sound, and ethernet continues to work.
Rebooting, or power-cycling the Display brings it back to life.
I also noticed today that the Display will CONSITENTLY / repeatably go black after a very short time watching a video full-screen.  Full-screen video on the 2nd monitor connected to the HDMI port doesn't have this issue.
    Anybody else having this problem?

I purchased the Late 2012 Mac Mini on 11/21/12.
I received the Thunderbolt Display on 9/20/11.
It just blacked-out on me AGAIN, and this time neither power-cycling nor rebooting brought it back.
I plugged in my old LED Cinema Display (displayport) into the Mac Mini until I can get this sorted out.

  • What about the cheaper mac mini?

Sorry for not aksing this in my other thread. But in the 1.83 Mac Mini The Disc Dive in let you burn cds and DVDs? Dvds is nota big deal but i assume it has a CD drive.
    Am I correct?

Yes, the 1.83 model has a 'combo' drive that reads and writes CDs and CD-RW, but only reads, not writes, DVDs.

  • When were the first Mac Mini's made with two video outputs?

I'm thinking of getting a used Mac mini but it must have two video outputs, not mirrored.  When were the first ones made?  And what sort of processor did they have?

One last question.  Will the 2009 Mac Mini support  1366 x 768 resolution?  My other resolution is 1920 x 1080 and I'm pretty sure it supports that, but what abot the 1366 x 768?

    On Second thoughts...
I don't really know how well Logic Express 7 performs on the Mac Mini because I have not yet had the chance to experience the two together. Don't let that put you off the idea though! From my understanding of the system requirements printed on the Logic Express homepage, it states that a G4 or faster system is required, however Apple personally recommend a Dual G4 or G5 is recommended alongside a minimum of 512MB of Ram. This Does mean that Logic Express will run on the Mac Mini but you will most probably find it lags when moving samples in real time and rendering them onto your hard drive. If you really want to enjoy making "serious" music on the Mac then you really need to be looking at the iMac G5 or the iMac Core Duo (Intel) purely for your tempers sake. As for an Intel Mac Mini, there is no indication as to when we will be seeing one on the market and therefore you may find yourself on the fence between keeping your fixed budget and holding on a little or jumping in and getting on the right road to a digital musical life - mac style.
Maybe this will inspire your decision:

  • What years apple cinema display can I connect to the new 2012 mac mini?

I have a 23" Apple Cinema Display that I purchased in 2007. I currently have it connected to m7 2009 Mac Mini. Can I use it with the new 2012 Mac Mini? I am running the latest OS on my 2009 Mac Mini.  I want to upgrade my Mac Mini for more storage a nd the faster processor.

Yes.  You can connect it to the Mac Mini's HDMI port with the HDMI to DVI adapter that comes with the new Mac Mini, or you can connect it to the Thunderbolt port with a Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter.

  • What is the latest MAC OSX that my Macbook 2,1 can support?

What is the latest MAC OSX that my Macbook 2,1 can support?  It came with 10.4.11Lion.
I am upgrading my harddrive and would love to install the most current OS that I possibly can.
I also have a Macbook 3,1 with OSX 10.5.8 Leopard that I want to do the same with.  If they can both run the same OSX that would be helpful too.
    Thanks a MILLION!

Both of those MacBooks can run up to 10.7 Lion. (10.4.11 is Tiger) It's the RAM that you'll need to upgrade.
First you'll need to upgrade to 10.6 Snow Leopard.  The 10.6 Snow Leopard DVD is in the Apple online store. You can get it for $19.99. After you’ve installed that then download the 10.6.8 combo updater to finish it off. http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399 You will need to be running 10.6.8 to access the App Store to order Lion, http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
    System Requirements for 10.6:
Mac computer with an Intel processor
    1GB of memory
    5GB of available disk space
    DVD drive for installation
Some features require a compatible internet service provider: fees may apply.
You can put two 2gb RAM sticks in your model 2,1 but it can only use 3,3gb. This is a hardware limitation and cannot be changed.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/3_GB_barrier
    http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/macbook_pro/faq/macbook-pro-core-2-duo-3-g b-memory-limitation-details.html
OWC tests have found that there is a slight speed increase with having two 2gb sticks in rather than one 1gb and one 2gb. Your model is in the gray lines at the bottom of the graph. http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/Memory_Benchmark/Apple_MacBook/
You can upgrade from 10.4 straight to 10.6 with no problems as long as you have at least 1gb of RAM. Any program that runs under 10.4 should run under10.6. See this list for third party programs compatibility with 10.6: http://snowleopard.wikidot.com/  You might have to upgrade some drivers for printers, etc.... And you will have to install Rosetta if you have any Power PC applications
    http://www.macobserver.com/tmo/article/snow_leopard_installing_rosetta/
I recently upgraded an older MacBook (Early 2006 model 1,1) straight from 10.4 to 10.6.
Once you are at 10.6.8 Lion is still available from Apple. You will have to call Apple Customer Care 1-800-692-7753 or 1-800-676-2775. to purchase it. Then within 3 days you will get an email with a code which you can use to download Lion from the App Store. Or go to http://store.apple.com/us/product/D6106Z/A/os-x-lion and purchase it there. The price is $19.99.
You must have at least a Late 2006 model 2,1 MacBook.
Lion will require at least 2gb of RAM but really needs 4gb to run smoothly.
As for third party programs see this list for compatibility with 10.7 http://roaringapps.com/apps:table
Also Lion doesn't run any Power PC programs. To see if you have any Power PC programs go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info. When System Profiler comes up select Applications under Software. Then look under Kind to see if any of your applications are listed as Power PC. Universal and Intel will run under Lion.
Before Mac switched to Intel processors in 2006 they used Power PC processors from 1994 to 2005. Power PC 601 through 604, G3, G4 and G5. Applications written for the Power PC processors need the application called Rosetta to run on Intel processors. This was part of the Operating System in 10.4 and 10.5 but was an optional install in 10.6. With 10.7 Lion Apple dropped all support for Power PC applications.

  • What is the latest Mac OS X that I can run on my 2.33 GHZ Core 2 Duo Macbook Pro?

My MBP was running the fan almost constantly and otherwise acting odd so I decided to just refresh the installation from scratch. At that time I was running Lion 10.7.5. Before rebuilding everything with that version I want to make sure running Lion on this machine isn't contributing to my issue.
What is the latest Mac OS X that I can run on my 2.33 GHZ Core 2 Duo Macbook Pro?
I have every OS release since the original purchase so I can rebuild on the one that's most stable on this laptop.

You can run Mt. Lion if you so wish:
    http://www.apple.com/osx/specs/
If you want the most efficient OS, I would suggest Snow Leopard.
However I suggest doing some investigation prior to installing a new OS.  First do a SMC reset:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3964
Also run an Apple Hardware Test.  Use the #2 disk on your original install disk.
If there is no improvement, post back.
    Ciao.

  • What is the latest Mac OS that will run Acrobat 6

What is the latest Mac OS that will run Acrobat 6

Ok, it's a PPC app. That means it needs Rosetta. Rosetta was gone by Mac OS 10.7, so that is out of the question.
Rosetta is an option you can install in 10.6. So it may be possible in that system.
Acrobat 7 listed as its official requirements "10.2.8 or 10.3" but it still runs as of 10.5, from my testing.
Acrobat 6, though is from the early days of Mac OS X. (Acrobat 5 was released for Mac OS 9), In 2003, we were on Mac OS 10.3.
It might run in later systems, I suspect the first thing to fail would be the Adobe PDF printer driver.
