Depends. There were two version of the MBP that shipped in 2006 with different max RAM. The quickest way to see which is yours is to use System Profiler to get your Mac's "Model Identifier."
Do "About this Mac" from the Apple menu and, in the resulting window, click "More Info..." That launches System Profler for you.
The answer is in the first screen of Profiler that comes up--"Hardware Overview." Note the second line in this example:
If the Model Identifier says "MacBookPro1,X" you are limited to 2G RAM. Period.
If the Model Identifier says "MacBookPro2,X" you can install two, 2G modules for an installed total of 4G RAM, but the logic board can only access 3.2G of it. That becomes your "max RAM.

Most computers refer to the locking attachment in some relationship to the name "Kensington", and that might be a useful clue.
Following that, be sure to avoid counterfeit products. A well-known computer vendor (not Apple), was approached by a large purchaser (several tens of thousands of laptops) who insisted on using a counterfeit locking product that had a larger than normal locking tab. If you have back ups and follow apples instructions on using bootcamp assistant to install Win7, there is no risk.
If you choose not to follow the instructions apple provides and have no back ups well then there is high risk of dissapointment.
Just follow the instructions and you should be fine.

I have a G5 iMac (3.0) with 2 GHz... i have one memory stick with 512mb and another with a gig, but i would like to know whats the most that i can put?....i ahve 2 slots so can i put in two 2-gigs sticks which come out to 4..or i can only put 2 one gigs so i can upgrade to 2gigs in ram overall.

What does the HD storage "other" run on your mac book pro?

My mac book pro is approx 4 years old and has a 120 GB HD. It seems like the "other" section has increased dramatically (now 52 GB) in recent weeks and I am wondering if something is wrong. I have run disk utility and verify permissions and corrected any errors and this has not changed anything. I have 32 GB free space on the drive. Does that seem logical. I have also trashed a lot of pictures and documents and that hasn't changed anything significantly. Thanks for any guidance.

So from reading other entries, Time machine is doing local back ups and will stop doing that at 90% of the hard drive capacity. Guess this is something new with Lion, thought I had something that was gobbling up my HD space.
Here is what disk inventory X shows for my HD usage. Not sure why mail is taking up so much space. I delete all my crap and literally save no mail.

Depends on the vintage. Do not state your serial number here as that can be used for someone unscrupulous to tag onto your warranty and other information. Go directly to https://selfsolve.apple.com/agreementWarrantyDynamic.do and tell us what vintage. Or go to Google and search:
"MacBook Pro (vintage) specs support.apple.com"
Replacing vintage with the vintage the warranty page says your machine is without parenthesis, and taking out the quotes.

Hi, and welcome to Apple Support Communities.
I wouldn't mess around with a measly 128 MB upgrade (assuming that's what you have now). Instead of merely doubling the RAM, maximize it with a 512 MB module.

Reinstall OSX using the online recovery.
Then use Boot Camp Assistant. One of the Boot Camp Assistant menu items is download the Windows Support Software (drivers). Make sure you follow the Boot Camp instructions.
Or, Reinstall OSX using the online recovery.
Then install a virtual machine like Parallels, Fusion, or VirtualBox. Then install Windows in the virtual machine.
You can use either Boot Camp or a virtual machine to install Windows. Neither method requires any driver cds.

I asked apple and they said it is not true because you can use the comp with the power adapter and battery together or either by itself and it will not effect the 2.16 gig. Thank you.

If you remove the battery the CPU power will be cut by 50% (whatever they told you) so that there's no lack of power or overheating issues. It's best to always keep the battery in.

If you want to play iTunes library content on the unit you need to enable Home Sharing on both, have them on the same network and then look for your iTunes library under the Computer icon - iTunes must be running of course.
Communications can be blocked by firewalls or security software sometimes.
To factory restore a black AppleTv2 or 3 you connect it to the computer running itunes with a USB to microUSB lead alone and start itunes.
