What is the name of the process that renames File & Folders? To fix name entry problem?

What mac linux process found in the Activity Monitor renames files and folders? My mac is slow under mac osx 10.7.5 and nearly unusable to name files and folders since as you name them it will jump the cursor and highlight causing the name I put in to disappear. I hate this so much I'm looking at a windows box! So what process can I raise priority of to help with this severe problem?

Have you updated 12 to the 12.1 Update using an opened project's Help Menu/Update? If not, please do so.
If you are referring to that red stem with the blue head at the Timeline level in the Expert workspace, that is indeed the Timeline Indicator (also referred to as CTI).
To be ruled in or out at the onset...whether or not you see an orange line over the Timeline content that you are attempting to preview?
If you (manually) or the project (automatically) have set the correct project preset, there should be no colored line
of the source video when it is first dragged to the Timeline. That is the program telling you that you are getting
the best possible preview. If orange, you are not and need to "Render" the Timeline content to get the best possible preview.
Does this "Timeline Rendering" factor apply to your situation?
If you are getting the best possible preview, we still need to know the properties of your source media ---
video compression
audio compression
frame size
frame rate
interlaced or progressive
pixel aspect ratio
Often the above can be gathered from knowing brand/model/settings for the camera that recorded the video.
Also are you observing this behavior if you start a new project or use different source media, such as, stills or videos
recorded with a different format?
Let us start here and then decide what next.

It is a bad situation. Your credit card expired but you cannot change it because FormsCentral is retiring.

You have to consider the possibility the hard drive may be dying. If your data isn't backed up, try one of the tools below:

Please tell me there is an easy fix to this problem!! I already had to go through contact-by-contact when I bought this phone and added contacts from my Blackberry and MS Outlook on the phone. Many duplicated at that time and Apple said the only fix was to go through each one and decide to keep or delete. I really don't want to do that again!

I had this problem while I had iOS 5.1.1 installed for many months. Fortunately I only have about 150 contacts and only about half of them duplicated. I found that my problem was the way thing were set up in Outlook. I removed all of the duplicates and corrected everything in Outlook contacts (ignoring the address book) and have not had the problem since, Hope this helps.

Batch Processing to Rename Files

I use batch processing to rename file in Photoshop Elements 5.0. I renamed my files with the MRW extension and the extension was changed to PSD.
I also tried batch processing to turn the MRW file into RAW files. I was able to do that but then Photoshop Elements was not able to open the newly renamed RAW files.
Any suggestions on what I might be doing wrong?

You cannot make changes to your actual raw files. You must convert them to another format to do this, which is what PE is doing. The kind of RAW files PE/PS can read or create without going through ACR (the camera raw plugin window) are not camera raw files, but photoshop raw files, a very old PS format that is not good for much these days.

How can i change the settings so that before download the firefox gives a propmt that same file name already exists, instead of automatically renaming duplicate files by adding .1 suffix?

When I download a file, if a file of similar name already exists in the same download folder, the firefox downloads the file and renames it by adding numeric .1 to the file name.
I want the firebox to give me a prompt that similar file already exist, rather than automatically renaming it by adding suffix .1.

I need urgent help.
This is the issue. I have a JSP code that calls a Java servlet class. This class is used to download files from the JSP page. The following is the piece of code that does the file download.

This code works just fine with IE. However, when this is used with Netscape, the class name gets added to the original file name extension. For example, if the class name is 'FileRetriever' and the file being downloaded is originally named 'a.doc', the file gets a name of 'a.doc.FileRetriever' after download using Netscape or Mozilla.
One way to solve this is by adding the appropriate file type in the MIME settings in browser preference. However, this not a permanent solution.
Can somebody let me know the correct code to fix this issue?

We loose control of the file name once we pass the original file name to the input stream. When our code instructs Netscape to write the file on the local disk using an output stream, that is when Netscape/Mozilla adds this additional extension to the original file. So, essentially, we do not know about this additional extension.

I saw Corey Barker do a demo where he extracted an image from the background, then cleaned up the edge with a process that allowed him to de-fringe it. I can't remember how he did it. And I can't find it. Help!

I saw Corey Barker do a demo a few weeks ago where he extracted an image from the background, then used a technique I was not familiar with to clean it up. You selected the area, then did something that involved going either to edit or select, then there was a dialog box that allowed you to dial it in, depending on the color background you were removing. In technical support, sometimes you have to make educated guesses. I'm sorry that you were offended.
iTunes does prompt when it is going to erase a device, and the message is clear.
She said in her message that she was able to successfully sync the old ipad. This indicated to me that itunes wiping the data was not an issue, because either it had been setup at the apple store (in which case it doesn't actually wipe the ipad despite saying it will*) (*based on a single case I saw), or because the itunes media folder was migrated.
Furthermore, my solution was to tell her how to backup her ipad (by either doing it manually, or as a last resort, by deleting the corrupt backup -- that she couldn't access anyway.)
I got that last part of the instructions from the "Taking Control of your iphone" book which I found samples of when I did a google search for "corrupted backup itunes".
She marked this as a solution, so it worked for her.

Hi. Macophile just starting to tread the waters of Applescript, trying to use Automator but don't think it will do what I need.
I have many images stored with-in folders that I would like to extrapolate a given number of characters from the folder name and Add Text to the files within those given folders.
Basically...
Folder name is C00100_Descriptive
Files within folder are just Descriptive_01, Descriptive_02
Would like to make all files within a given folder take the first 7 characters from the folder and Add that text to all files and files within subfolders of that folder to make the resulting files shown as...
C00100Descriptive01
C00100Descriptive02
Along with this I would also like to incorporate into the script, an added step to create Thumbnail jpegs of the image files in a Subfolder under C00100_Descriptive folder.
I can see how to do that in automator but not specifying parameters such as taking a certain number of characters from the folder the file resides in and adding that selected text to the files.
Ideally I would like a droplet or something that I could take a bunch of folders and drop them on the droplet to perform these actions.
Any advice, help or guidance would be really helpful! Thanks in advance.

To do so, press Control-B on your keyboard. You should then see the menubar at the top of iTunes (see image below). You can then access the File menu and backup your device.

First, try a system reset. It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo. Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears. You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.

I'm not sure what DB tools you are using in LabVIEW however I was able to locate the following function that seems to accomplish what you asked about.

As far as database applications go there are several examples included in LabVIEW some of which include SQL functions as well.

You could try a third party file retrieval software such as the free option on the link below.

You stand the best chance of retrieving this file by not doing anything on the PC which has had the file deleted so install the above application on a USB drive using another PC and then use this to see if you can recover the deleted files.

10.4.9 ::: Renaming files / folders does not work the GUI way

just realized a strange problem on an Mac Mini (10.4.9) here.
The installation contains 3 user-accounts
Problem only occurs for one of those three accounts
Description:
- If the user tries to rename a file via
a) mouse click on the name or
b) get info dialog
the folder/file name gets marked as supposed
BUT it looks like all keyboard input is ignored at all.
That results in the point that this special user-account is unable to
rename any file/foldername.
All files i have tested display correct ownership in the GetInfo dialog.
Rename works without problems if i am using Terminal.app and the MV-command.
Based on that i assume that the ownership & permissions are correct.
All other user-accounts do act like suppoed regarding renaming etc...
Is that a common bug under certain cases ?
Can you provide me any solution for that problem / bug ?
Can i offer any additional information to help debugging this problem ?

Ok i realized the MacMini is usualy not shutdown at the evening.
So i guess this special Mac was running/sleep/running for several month now.
Maybe just a strange-side-effect of that nig uptime...anyway its a bug.
A Restart fixed that problem now for this time, but according to some other threads / discussions i have found during my research it seems like its a known problem in general
I am still interested if there is a real work-around ofr that issue
