What is the /net directory?

Hi,
I just noticed a /net directory on my machine. I checked it out using ls. It contains a number of directories with the hostnames of assorted websites. I can't seem to cd into these directories - the operation just hangs. What is going here?
Thanks.

It should be info on a server that you may have been connected to.

  • What is the "Host Directory"

    What is the "Host Directory"?

    The above is correct for most Apache/Linux servers. When you are in Dreamweaver and setting up your site to use FTP, the host directory is /public_html/ and you are all set.
    It is the "root" of your host, the subdirectory on the server from which an Apache or IIS server is directed to draw the initial or start page of a website from, usually "index.html," "index.htm, "index.php," "index.asp," or "index.cf" Your hosting provider will be able to tell you this.

  • What if the log directory is full?

    I've  just switched from Oracle to DB2.

    Forgive me if this is to basic.

    Hello,  this depends on the setting of the blk_log_dsk_ful database configuration parameter.

    I'm a Mac user. I wanna know what is the base directory for the "chrome://" url. I wanna also know where i can find the file "chrome://browser/content/browser.xul" in my computer. Thank you

    Use your browser to open this page "chrome://browser/content/browser.xul"
    Right click and click "View Page Source" you will find that this xul file should be in Firefox.app/Contents/MacOS/omni.jar

  • What is the "Master Directory Block"

    I have an external LaCie firewire drive; when I plugged it in today it gave me a message saying, "This disk contains no volumes that Mac OS X can read" or something. I could then choose "Ignore", "Cancel" or "Initialize". When I clicked "Initialize", it opened up Disk Utility, and I tried Repair Disk. It said 1 volume was repaired and 1 had not been repaired, and in red it said, "Master Directory Block needs minor repair"
    What is the Master Directory block, and how do I repair it?

    This article, in the section titled "Design", describes the Master Directory block. I would get Diskwarrior or TechTool Pro to repair the disk.

  • What is the default directory for the PHP uploads, i.e. upload_tmp_dir = ?

    I would like to know the default directory that is referenced in the php.ini file under the category of "upload_tmp_dir =" for the OS X server 10.5.8.

    This is the best info that I have found:
    http://bugs.php.net/52460
    Still, just wondering what the default for 10.5.8 is supposed to be before I go and change the php.ini entries.

  • What is the best directory / location to store master document database?

    I would like to store my master database containing 14GB of data on the iPhone itself, and then use that to connect to my Mac computers (either the desktop, or one of my laptops). So I have a couple of choices that I am aware of. I can store everything inside of the Documents to Go directory. Or, I can store everything inside of OneDisk because that lets me upload to the cloud. It gets a little confusing to store data in the iDisk directory on the iPhone because each file that is downloaded gets its own folder with a very long name that is worthless in terms of organization. I am happy to keep a duplicate in the cloud of all 14GB, but I want the most current database to be on my phone. For OneDisk to upload, it looks like things need to be inside the OneDisk directory. Any suggestions? I want an organizational system that can be used at least until the next iPhone comes out. Thanks.

    If your XML data will not be larger than 4000 characters then use VARCHAR2 else CLOB. I don't see a need to use BLOB (unless your XML data contains binary information).

  • What is the "cores" directory at top level and their core.99999 files?

    At the top level of my Disk is a hidden directory called "cores".
    Within that directory are 105 files called "core.99999".
    The 99999 is a system assigned number?
    Each file is 380MB or very close, ie some are 381, some are 385.
    Each file of a particular size appears to arise in blocks of 8, 16, or 64
    My MacBook (early 2008) 4GB/750GB has been running slowly particularly when Safari builds up more than 3 Gb of Virtual Memory requirement.
    I found these files after a SuperDuper! backup showed about 40Gb less on the mirrored disk than on the inbuild system disk. I went searching with GrandPerspective and they appeared, beautifully arranged at top level of the disk, with the hidden cores directory at the same level as the System, Applications, Library and Users directories.
    I never saw these before in 10.6 Snow Leopard.
    Can I delete them manually, or via a procedure? They take up a lot of space.
    I am concerned they may be reason my MacBook pages VM very slowly as teh VM requirements of the programs I am running increases beyond 5 GB

    See https://developer.apple.com/library/mac/#documentation/Darwin/Reference/ManPages /man5/core.5.html for starters. FWIW, mine is empty. So, you should be able to delete these, just ensure that you leave the cores directory in place.

  • What is the current directory when running Tomcat

    Hi,
    In one of my classes I try to open a file for reading. I did this with:
    FileReader fr = new FileReader("files/httpd.conf");
    When I try to run the project, it can't find the file. I tried every possible place in my webapps directory and when I insert some code to take a look at his current path, i get an index which really isn't in webapps.
    Can somebody please tell me where to put my files when i try to open them using files/httpd.conf
    Much thanks,
    Hugo Hendriks

    I'm still getting a servlet error because he can't find the file. My directory structure is like:
    webapps/act/ = all my html and jsp files
    webapps/act/files = all my data files
    webapps/act/WEB-INF/classes/apacheconfigurator = all my class files
    my call in the class looks like this:
    //Declareren van de input file
    FileReader fr = new FileReader("../webapps/act/files/httpd.conf");
    BufferedReader br = new BufferedReader(fr);
    //Declareren van de temp output file
    FileWriter fw = new FileWriter("../webapps/act/files/httpd.temp");
    PrintWriter pw = new PrintWriter(fw);

  • What is the N900 directory structure?

    I have updated to the latest version of maemo and installed a few apps and added some music.
    When I clicked on the Ovi maps icon on the front screen, it never exited from the "Looking for GPS" message, so I exited via X.
    After, all my files (music, docs) and subdirectories were gone, and the entire file structure visible via File Manager in PC-Suite was only the folder "cities" with some subfolders in it.
    I would like to add music, etc. back in without having to drastically re-install the OS or something.  I did not yet back it up.
    Can anyone give a screen shot of the directory structure visible in PC-suite File Manager so that I can reconstruct it?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    if you go in to settings, time and date and select the auto update option, then when you put the battery back in just accept the time and date it defaults to and it will correct it for you

  • What is Weblogic current directory?

    I have multiple clusters and servers created on a Weblogic instance.
    What is the current directory, e.g. if I read/write a file from servlet without specify the directory? ldealy, the directory is neutral to clusters/servers.
    Thanks

    Hi,
    Please place your Properties file *(Or Whatever file you want to read...)* inside the *<DOMAIN_ROOT>* Directory for Example Location: "user_projects/domains/mydomain" directory
    After Placing any Property file inside the "domain root" directory can be read without restarting the Server...
    below is a simple example for the same.......
    *"a.properties"*
    city=NewYour
    country=America
    *"index.jsp"*
    <%@ page import="java.util.*" %>
    <html>
    <head>
    <title>Hi It's Wroking</title>
    </head>
    <body bgcolor="maroon" text="white">
    <center>
    <%
    InputStream is=new FileInputStream("./a.properties"); // No need to specify the File Path now
    Properties prop=new Properties();
    prop.load(is);
    out.println("City: "+prop.getProperty("city"));
    out.println("Country: "+prop.getProperty("country"));
    %>
    </center>
    </body>
    </html>
    Like this you need not to redeploy your Application...If you want to make any changes in the property file ...Just eidt it...and the Properties files changes will be dynamically picked up by the application,

  • What is the impact of destroying and re-creating from scratch the Open Directory Master?

    In order to try and solve some nasty issues hat I have since upgrading to OS X Server 3,0 I am considering completely destroying my OD Master and re-creating the users and groups from scratch. Before doing so (of course I will have multiple backups) I would like to understand:
    1.   When re-creating the users and groups is it sufficient to use the same ‘Unix’ groupid and userid numbers or do I also need to use the original GeneratedUIDs (is that even possible)? Are there any other aspects of the users/groups that I need to be sure to preserve?
    2.   Will there be any impact to services and their data from doing this? Specifically, I have users with data in Mail, Calendar, Contacts and the WiKi. Will they still be able to access their data after the OD destroy/re-create or is that data somehow tied to more than just the username (e.g. does it use the user/group UUID or indeed any other UUID from OD)?
    3.   Will there be any impact to OS X clients bound to the OD? Should I unbind them before destroying and re-bind them afterwards? Will there be any negative impact on the network users who log in via these systems (they all have ‘mobile’ accounts which do *not* sync to the server - all their data is local to the client)?
    Thanks in advance for any advice especially from anyone who has gone through this process.
    Chris

    Hi Rob,
    I have solevd my issue and I did not need to destroy / re-create the Open Directory. See my post here https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5785838 for all the gory details. The long and the short of it was that my problems all came from a point in the past when I changed the hostname of my server after I had created the Open Directory master. Seems like that is a very bad idea! Based on what I found it seems liek any small flaw in DNS forward and reverse name resolution can also cause similar issues. I don't knwo if either of thsoe may apply to your situation?
    As part of troubleshooting my issue I actually created a 'replica' of my server setup on another machine includingthe OD and associated users and groups. What I found was that many services (certainly mail, calendar and contacts) depend completely on the OD users and groups UUIDS. So if you wish to preserve user's data across an OD destroy and re-create it is vital that you carefully note for each group its Unix GID and its OD UUID and for each user their Unix uid, primary group id and UUID. When you are re-creating your OD master, as you create each group, use Directory editor to change its UUID to the original value. Similarly for Users. If you don't then users will no longer have access to any existign Mail, Contacts or Calendar data afterwards!
    HTH,
    Chris

  • How can I see what, when and how much has been downloaded from the net?

    I use a satellite internet service which limits me to only 200Mb of downloads in a 24 hr period. Should I go over, I am "locked out" of my internet service for the next 24 hr period. Lately I have been locked out without thinking I have downloaded anything. I am wondering if there is a place on the computer I can look to give me an idea what has been downloaded and when? I did change the Apple software update to not "automatically update important files" but I am wondering are there any other programs or anything the system may be downloading automatically without me knowing and what can be done to rectify it?
    Thanks

    Thanks for the thoughts. Here is some more for consideration. I was locked out yesterday and when I finally got out of "lock up" today, I went to my satellite internet provider's site to see how much and when it was downloaded. I booted my machine at about 10 AM yesterday and according to their site between 10 and 11 AM I downloaded 188MB of data. Then from 11 AM to Noon they said I downloaded another 28MB which then resulted in my being locked out of the internet until noon today. During that time I was on the net, I initiated no downloading from any site nor did I have any video streaming. What is frustrating is I have no idea what is being downloaded or how much. Most other days of the week it appears that downloaded material is 75Mb or less and I can remember generating the downloads.Looking at their site, the "downloading" of mystery material begins quickly after booting the computer which leads me to believe, as Kappy was saying, this is likely something like Apple Software updater or such set to "Download on Startup". I guess I'm not quite sure how to check to see what is set to "Download on Startup" and how to make sure nothing downloads at startup unless approved by me. Any thoughts?

  • Firefox and Thunderbird do not connect to the net, and they also hang.. What is the Fix?

    ''locking this thread as duplicate, please continue at [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1020334 /questions/1020334]''
    In the blink of an eye, both Thunderbird and Firefox have BOTH STOPPED connecting to the Net. let me share with you what I have done... and what has been unsuccessful this far.
    System & Software Pertinents..
    Windows 7 x64 System running a i7 Intel CPU, with 8 GB of RAM and a 500 GB Drive.
    Thunderbird is Version 24.2
    Firefox is Version 27.
    Here are the specific things that I have done, POST problem, to try and solve..
    A) Check firewall settings... BOTH programs are cleared for Bit Passage
    B) Check Anti-Virus.... Anti-Virus Disabled.. UNINSTALLED and Registry Cleaned.. still has the problem persisting..
    C) Deleted and Reinstalled Thunderbird & Firefox Working Directories (without deleting User Profiles)... Problem still persisting..
    D) Created NEW Profile with Profile Mgr in Firefox.. no go...
    E) RAN WHOLE System VIRAL/MALWARE Check... .. No infections..
    F) FRESH REINSTALLS of Thunderbird and Firefox... NO go...
    G) Checked Processes using ENUM and DNS Checks... both check out fine!
    H) OTHER browsers connect... OPERA.. Chrome and IE even... Also, Sea Monkey... but not Firefox.
    In TRYING to create an e.mail account, Thunderbird's Account Creation interface sits there attempting to connect... no connection achieved...
    Any help that you can offer is appreciated!!
    Thank you all, in advance!

    Thank you, for that. To be sure, I tried your suggestion, and selected "System Proxy" as the choice, for Thunderbird and Firefox. Rebooted, and looked at the outcome.. NO Joy.. :-(
    I believe that I shall send the output of the Error Log in my next post. Perhaps someone can point me in the right direction after looking at the Error.log.
    Thank you...Toad Hall. If you think of something else to try, I am ALL ears.. I shall keep trying..

  • What is the right way to move a directory to another drive?

    When I move a directory to another location using drag and drop in the Elements 11 Organizer folder tree most, if not all, of the images become unlinked. What is the right way to move a directory and have the image paths updated in the Organizer database? Thanks.

    That's something I just did successfully one hour ago...
    I suppose your are in the 'folder' view with full folder tree, not in the 'My folder' view which only shows the lower subfolder level recorded in the database.
    Do you try to move a folder with its subfolders ?
