Not to be confused with size, what is the most desktop space that can be achieved with a single dvi connection? Is it a 24" monitor with 1920 x 1200?

  • What is the Remote Desktop?

This morning, I found three files: adoption.plist, tud.plist and utdcheckinDone from HD--Library--Application Support-- Apple Store again.  It came at 5:10am this morning.  I don't know where it got into my Mac.  Also, I found Remote Desktop from HD--Library--Application Support--Apple.  I didn't use Remote, but it was there.  What is the Remote Desktop?

Thanks for telling that.  I was online awhite, then I turned around for sometime, when came back, window had slept and needed to sign in, but I couldn't.  Was that Apple's software for managing networded Mac systems lock me out?  Please reply me, I will appreciate that.  Why did it do that to me?  Why?  Do I need to go Apple to ask why?
Thank you so much for this information.
I am worried about my Mac.  Do you know what is adoption.plist, utd.plist and utdcheckinDone?  If you can and know, please let me know what it is.  Thank you.  Appreciate that.  Good night

  • What is the Spiceworks Desktop Tray Manager for?

Seems like this is a really dumb question but when I log into the server that is running Spiceworks, there is an icon on the start bar for the Tray Manager.  I don't usually have an icon down by the clock when the server boots up but when I run the program it puts on in there.
What is this program for and do I need to set it to run every time the machine boots up or anything like that?

Make sure the seller that sells older versions of the Adobe CS suites, if this was the sellers own software,  has de authorized or unregistered the software they are selling. Also, make sure the seller gives you all of the registration info needed for you to register and authorize this software in your own Adobe account.
Male sure you get the sellers contact info in case something doesn't go right with the registration process.
The seller may need to provide you with info they forgot to five to you or you may need.
If, you have any issues with registering the software, Adobe has a 24 hour live tech support online messaging support system that you can access on the Adobe website.

  • What is the best desktop publishing software for a Mac

I recently published my first MAC.  On my PC, I used Publisher to create brochures.  What is the best software on a MAC for creating brochures and flyers?

CS2 was a terrible experience and that was 5-6 yrs ago and of course totally depended on Rosetta, on plugiin problems, and is not supported with 10.6.8 and won't run under Lion.
Adobe Photoshop Elements 10 looks like an alternative

  • What is the best desktop publishing program for the Mac?

When I had a PC I used several excellent DTP programs: Adobe Pagemaker and Serif Page Plus. Pagemaker was supplanted by Adobe InDesign, and Page Plus is written for the PC only. Years ago, it used to be Quark. Too expensive. So what is the alternative for the Mac?

  • Changing what drives appear on the XFCE desktop

I created a (very) kickass linux install on a 16GB Super Talent Pico-C flash drive that I keep on my keychain!  I have a couple issues I'm working through to make it perfect, and one of them is what drives appear on the desktop.  XFCE usually puts removable media as desktop icons so they can be easily (un)mounted, but in this case, I would like everything except for the partitions on my flash drive to appear.  This includes whatever is present in the machine, other flash drives plugged in, etc.  ATM it just shows the two partitions that exist on my flash drive at any point in time.  What do I need to configure for this to happen?

My mistake, sorry OP. What was I reading?

  • What is the best desktop for me?

I have to buy a new desktop. I want to know what is best for me. I maily use Word.
is it all just a matter of screen size or is there something else to take into account?

Only you can make a decision of what is best for you.  Visit your local Apple Stores or whatever places in your hood sells Apple computers.  Test drive all the ones you are interested in.  The sales staff will be more than happy to help you make your final decision.
The staff will advise you of the pros & cons for what you want to do.
My only suggestion is that you max out your RAM (if user repairable) w/3rd party RAM vendors that include a lifetime warranty.  Apple sells RAM at a very high price & they get the same ones from the same places as the 3rd party vendors.
My personal preferences for Mac desktops are the 27" iMacs.

  • What is the best desktop for graphic designers

I'm looking into buying a new computer, and I was wondering if anyone had any preference over which iMac model would be better to use as a graphic designer.
    Thanks!

My personal preference is for the 27 inch screen models.
You can still install cheaper third party RAM into these iMacs.
Load up this model with the max. RAM 16 GBs.
Get the model with the fastest CPU you can afford.
If you still use CD/DVD optical media, you will have to budget for an external optical drive, also.
They are no longer built into the iMac.
Also, think about installing a faster VRAM chip if you consider the slower 27 inch model with only 512 MB of VRAM.
As far as storage, the verdict is still out on the Fusion drive, but it would make boot up and, generally, make the iMac feel faster.
I Would probably opt the larger 3 TB standard 7200 rpm hard drive, but that's just me.
Whatever you decide, you need to budget to get 3- year extended AppleCare on these iMac.
They are not as reliable as they used be and there have always been problems with them.
Havimg three years of free warranty replacement and repair is going to go a long way toward the longevity of these iMac models.
If budget is an issue, you can look at the 21 inch screen models, but I am not recommending them.
These models have no upgradeability at all any longer. They are a glued up, closed up, sealed appliance, now.
The specs are lesser, there are no option for a faster VRAM chip, and the hard drives choices for these models are the much slower 5400 rpm notebook style hard drives.
If you have to purchase one of these 21 in screen models, you can't skimp on components if you want to have this model iMac for any long term. You would need to order one with the  complete 16 GBs of Apple's own RAM installed up front. Order the optional fastest CPU available for this model which is the 3.1 Ghz CPU. This is must in my opinion.  And replace and order the 1 TB fusion drive to replace part of the 5400 rpm drive equation.
And, again, budget and purchase the 3- year extended AppleCare. You will, eventually, need to use this.
    Good Luck on your decision!

  • What is the best Desktop Environment in Arch Linux?

Hello, Arch Community! I am having troubble desiding which DE to install on my new Arch box. I have narrowed it down to KDE, GNOME, and Xfce.
I like KDE's customization but I also like GNOME's simplicity. Xfce is lightweight, but in previous experience GNOME apps such as NetworkManagerApplet don't run that well with it and I had troubble with Compiz Fusion in Xfce. Please help me decide. Please don't tell me that it is 'apples and oranges' or any crap like that. I just want an answer that talks about performance and customization, etc.
BTW I am glad to return to Arch after getting sick of Fedora's massive updates. I am in love with Arch's rolling release cycle.

you dont even need a proper desktop environment, thats part of the reason i like arch so much, you can use ~/.xinitrc as your own personal desktop environment.
just put what you want in your ~/.xinitrc
    this is mine
    xbindkeys &
    lxde-settings-daemon &
    xfdesktop &
    xfwm4 &
    xfce4-panel &
    exec ck-launch-session startlxde
i have the minimal lxde install (just lxde-common, lxde-settings-daemon & lxsession-lite + lxapperance for my themes) so all my settings like themes  etc... are loaded on boot then i just added the panel i wanted, the window manager i wanted etc...
if you want a fast minimal install with only the apps you want then do something similar, load somekind of settings manager so all your settings are loaded every time you boot then pick and choose you favorite panel, window manager etc...

  • What software is recommended for tuning a Desktop Mac -- cookies, etc

Have had my Mac for nearly seven years now.  Starting to slow down a little.  Is there a legitimate software package that I need to get to clean things up -- eliminate cookies, etc.  I'm from the windows world -- work -- and I expect to repair.  BTW, I am on the most current software release.
    Phil

Got lots of old macs here, but find they don't need a lot of mainanence as does windows (and the registry). Whatever browser you use, I would use it's built in functions to clean history and cookies and whatnot, and then for overall stuff I use MainMenu v.2.12 from www.incrediblebee.com, which I really like and have used for years. I use & prefer the old version, as picured here:
It's chockefd full of fun things to do!

  • What are the minimum CPU and Memory requirements for R12 Vision instance?

We are in the process of trying to figure out what the minimum hardware requirements are for installing the R12 Vision instance. This Vision instance would only have 5 or less concurrent users. We may have to order a new server and we are wondering what the minimum CPU and memory would be? Oracle Support will not give us this information.
We aleady know how much disk space it will need.

  • What's the Craziest Thing That's Happened to Your Organization's Hardware?

Nearly a month ago this entertaining (and let’s be honest, a little shocking) thread in the community was posted to the hardware forum: “What’s the dirtiest desktop/laptop you’ve encountered?” From lent, to roaches, to a few encounters I’ll let you read for yourself – it’s clear IT pros have seen the worst of the worst! However, I’m thinking that those in law enforcement IT may have some particularly crazy stories about dirtied laptops or perhaps destroyed hardware in general. So, what’s the craziest thing that’s happened to a laptop, phone or tablet that you’ve encountered in the law enforcement industry?
