What is the preferred NTFS cluster size of a disk where a mailbox database will installed on?

I'm testing the 2013 Exchange deployment in our lab environment. We do have a 2010 Exchange server where mailbox databases are installed on disks formatted 64k (65536 bytes in each allocation unit). Is this also recommended for Exchange 2013?

Hi
HI
NTFS allocation unit size
NTFS allocation unit size represents the smallest amount   of disk space that can be allocated to hold a file.
Supported: All allocation unit sizes.
Best practice: 64 KB for both .edb and log file   volumes.

  • NTFS Cluster size is set at 4k instead of recommended 64k.

    We have found that our partition is not aligned and need to get some
    feedback on a few things.
    Here are our numbers:
    Starting partition offset = 32,256
    Stripe Size = 128k (131,072)
    Cluster size = 4k (4096)
    We are experiencing high "Avg Queue length" and high "avg disk usage"
    in windows performance monitor...
    My question is this: How important is the NTFS cluster size at 4k. I know
    the recommendation is 64k but how bad would a 4k cluster size ALSO
    affect performance given we know that our partition is mis-aligned ?
    Thanks..

    It's very important from performance perspective, especially when you're facing a huge database and quantity of disks. 64K is the rule of thumb as cluster package size for SQL server, can be considered a minimum size of unit at least in this case. Imagine if it's cut down to 4K which is 1/16, then the disk arms need to do 16 times to grab the same amount of data.
    > Starting partition offset = 32,256
    >ALSO
    > affect performance given we know that our partition is mis-aligned ?
    Starting offset has a similar impact as allocation unit size does, but usually it only happens on old fashion storage device as far as I know, not sure maybe I'm wrong here. Last time an issue related to that I know was on HP EVA 5000 4 years ago, and after that starting offset value is part of initial optimization when it's being installed by storage vendor provided, no manual change from customer needed. But to be on the safe side, please do check with your storage vendor to make sure.
    In either case of allocation unit size or starting offset size, it would be very difficult to change as long as it's set and has gone live in production environment, from either downtime or transition storage device.

    Hello experts,
    A server will be running Hyper-V soon. All virtual machines and their virtual HDDs will be stored on D driver of the physical machine.
    What is the best allocation unit size for formatting the physical D drive? Shall it be the biggest available option (64k) for getting better performance?

  • What is the preferred way to open a new url in a new window/popup?

    Hi Guys,
    I have an application that requires me to show another URL (Fedex tracking number) once a button is clicked.
    what is the preferred way to do it?
    Should I open a new browser or a popup?
    I would appreciate if you have a code example I can use.
    Thanks,
    Itay

    hi,
    For opening a URL , you could also close previous window and open a new browser.
    Follow the steps :
    -> make an outbound plug in your window.
    -> Add URL of type string as a parameter for your outbound plug.
    ->Do remember to add Component Name in the Properties Tab of View ( othervs Calling Outbound plug of win from view wont b psbl).
    Write the below mentioned code to call a URL  in the OnAction of button :
    DATA lo_zexit TYPE REF TO ig_zexit .
    lo_zexit =   wd_this->get_zexit_ctr( ).
      lo_zexit->fire_out_window_plg(
        url =   'http://www.google.com'                            " string
    here replace ig_zexit with your  ig<applicatin name>.
    Other way around is using Code Wizard ( control _ F7).
    Write the below code in the onaction of button :
    data lo_window_manager type ref to if_wd_window_manager.
    data lo_api_component  type ref to if_wd_component.
    data lo_window         type ref to if_wd_window.lo_api_component  = wd_comp_controller->wd_get_api( ).
    lo_window_manager = lo_api_component->get_window_manager( ).CALL METHOD lo_window_manager->CREATE_EXTERNAL_WINDOW
      EXPORTING
        URL            = 'http://www.google.co.in/'
        MODAL          = ABAP_FALSE
        HAS_MENUBAR    = ABAP_TRUE
        IS_RESIZABLE   = ABAP_TRUE
        HAS_SCROLLBARS = ABAP_TRUE
        HAS_STATUSBAR  = ABAP_TRUE
        HAS_TOOLBAR    = ABAP_TRUE
        HAS_LOCATION   = ABAP_TRUE
      RECEIVING
        WINDOW         = lo_window.lo_window->open( ).
    You can choose any way whichever suits your requirements.
    I hope it helps.
    Thanx.

  • What is the maximum hard drive size can I install into my MacBook Pro 15 "late 2008 ?

    Hello community, I play with the thought in my MacBook Pro 15 "late 2008 equipped with an SSD hard drive. What is the maximum hard drive size can I install? Thank you in advance

    I don't recommend you to install a hard drive bigger than 2 TB if you are going to install Windows in Boot Camp or you may have problems
    The largest 2.5" SATA HDDs of 9.5 mm thickness that I am aware of are 1 TB in capacity.  There is a 12.5 mm thick  HDD that will fit some MBPs.  But I have not seen any of larger capacity.
    Are there now 2 TB HDDs available for MBPs?    If so, I am interested.
    Ciao.
    Both OWC and Crucial have SSDs of about 1 TB capacity.

    Hi,
    The dswsbobje web application (war file) is mentioned in SAP IK XI 3.1 install guide to explain how to get the SAP authentication option available in Business Objects products such as Live Office, which use web services to log on to BusinessObjects Enterprise.
    The source files for various Business Objects web applications are available in "businessobjects_root\BusinessObjects Enterprise 12.0\java\applications\" folder. Refer to "Deploying the web applications using wdeploy" section in SAP IK XI 3.1 install guide to see how to repackage those web apps and deploy them using wdeploy tool.

  • What's the largest hard drive size my 8600 can support?

    hi all,
    Years ago,I noticed my 8100 Powermac couldn't support larger hard drives than 2GB so I had to partition. Now I have a 8600 Mac with a 4GB hard with no partition. What's the largest hard drive size my PowerMac 8600 can support?

    Here's an 18GB SCSI HD on eBay that says it will work on a PM 8600. http://cgi.ebay.com/18-GB-IBM-SCSI-HARD-DRIVE-Apple-Power-Mac%7CG3%7CG4%7CG5-Wrt y_W0QQitemZ120360935737QQcmdZViewItemQQimsxZ20090109?IMSfp=TL090109111005r37358
    You could also install an ATA PCI card and probably go larger.

    My phone is not jailbroken.  I don't know what you mean about hacked.   Maybe it is hacked?   This is what is happening: About three times over the past few months I've noticed that my phone while "off" will come on (light up) and the screen shows an arrow towards the bottom; an arrow such that you would see on various "players" in order to "play" video or audio, I've searched my phone and cannot find any app that produces this particular screen though. Once I pick up the phone when this screen myseriously appears out of nowhere and press anything, it goes away and goes to the standard "slider" front page to unlock the phone.

    What is the preferred anti-virusmalware software for MacBook Air?

    None is required.
    Helpful Links Regarding Malware Protection
    An excellent link to read is Tom Reed's Mac Malware Guide.
    Also, visit The XLab FAQs and read Detecting and avoiding malware and spyware.
    See these Apple articles:
              Mac OS X Snow Leopard and malware detection
              OS X Lion- Protect your Mac from malware
              OS X Mountain Lion- Protect your Mac from malware
              About file quarantine in OS X
    If you require anti-virus protection I recommend using VirusBarrier Express 1.1.6 or Dr.Web Light both from the App Store. They're both free, and since they're from the App Store, they won't destabilize the system. (Thank you to Thomas Reed for these recommendations.)
    From user Joe Bailey comes this equally useful advice:
    The facts are:
    1. There is no anti-malware software that can detect 100% of the malware out there.
    2. There is no anti-malware that can detect anything targeting the Mac because there
         is no Mac malware in the wild, and therefore, no "signatures" to detect.
    3. The very best way to prevent the most attacks is for you as the user to be aware that
         the most successful malware attacks rely on very sophisticated social engineering
         techniques preying on human avarice, ****, and fear.
    4. Internet popups saying the FBI, NSA, Microsoft, your ISP has detected malware on
        your computer is intended to entice you to install their malware thinking it is a
        protection against malware.
    5. Some of the anti-malware products on the market are worse than the malware
        from which they purport to protect you.
    6. Be cautious where you go on the internet.
    7. Only download anything from sites you know are safe.
    8. Avoid links you receive in email, always be suspicious even if you get something
        you think is from a friend, but you were not expecting.
    9. If there is any question in your mind, then assume it is malware.

  • What is the maximum iMovie library size?

    what is the maximum iMovie library size?

    My iMovie Event Library is about 4 TB, and no problems yet. I have hundreds of Events.
    However, if a single event is too large, you can run into problems. Let's say you are filming football games. Put each game into a separate event. If you try to put all the games from a season into a single event, that would likely be too large to work properly.

  • What is the Lightroom web space size? is share creative cloud file spaces?

    What is the Lightroorrreerrffgm web space size? is share creative cloud file spaces?

    Hi Raghuveer,
    Thanks for quick reply.  Sorry, I prefer not to share my designs so I cannot send you my sample of Ai file or screenshots.  I hope you understand.
    Anyway, I have about 50 to 60 elements used 3D effects and 60 elements used brushes.   And about 20 some elements I defined as pattern swatches (about half of them used gradient). Also, added drop shadow, zigzag effect and accent edges on 5 elements.   And 3 layers filled with patterns (my artboard size is 1220 px W x 1500 px H).  I have my layers/artboard/ color & pattern swatches/ appearance panels opened up when working in Ai.
    I hope this gives you some idea how much I am doing and what I am doing with my Ai file.   And hope that you can advise if there should be problem if doing a lot in one file?  I just cannot stop designing sometimes.
    Added this- I have 18 artboards and 22 layers in my Ai file.  Photoshop doesn't have this problem  when working with a lot of layers, only Illustrator does.
    Thank you very much!!

  • What is the preferred API (CQ or CRX) to use to access repositories to perform WCM functions?

    What is the preferred API (CQ or CRX) to use to access repositories to perform WCM functions like activate, deactivate, import document, export documents, tagging, etc?

    As in most cases it is a good choice to use the API with the higher level. For CQ and CRX API, CQ is the highlevel API since it is (partially) based on CRX API. In some cases CQ API eliminates some boilerplate code and/or adds some implicit handling.
