What is the proper display default setting for a MacBook 13''?
Hi, I clicked on system preferences from the little blue apple and then clicked on Display because I was wanted to increase my screens brightness. Before I clicked anything else however, the screen blinked and blacked out and then came back up with large black lines on each side and the screen was scrunched up. Thinking I maybe accidentally changed the resolution, I clicked on the one below it - which increased the size of everything! Now everything is all messed up and even though I've got it fitting almost back to normal - the font and words seem blurry.
What did I do wrong and what is the right (default) setting? I just want my display to look normal again! Thanks for everyone's help.
With the Macbook 13", turn the resolution as high as it can go, millions of colors, refresh rate n/a. This was the default with my machine, and it's working fine.

What is the best display resolution setting for Macbook Pro retina display for photography?
Display resolution settings are somewhat criptic. I want maximal resolution for editing photos. Which one should I choose?
Not sure what you mean by "attachment" -
The question was about a player/recorder, also known as a burner when used with a computer. Any burner will also function as a player with a computer (as in "read and write") - just attach the drive and insert a CD or DVD. iTunes will however, most likjely, attempt to immediately import the song - that is its default behavior. I have other audio software, so I can bypass iTunes as I don't care to use it. And this is what I am referring to:

What is the best time to set for my iMac intel to get to sleep?
what is the best time to set for my iMac intel to get to sleep? the default is 10 minutes, i am changing it to 1 houirs but i put the sleep time for my monitod 10 minutes. is it decent?

but if it MUST run 24x7, then likely one has budgeted for a new system
within 3 years anyway.
Not so sure of that "just plain logic." Allowing sleep too often will cause wear on the drive -- excessive spin up and spin down. Temperature permitting, a drive will last longer if just left running.
For other hardware, a lot will have to do with the internal temps. When it's quite hot here, I allow the computer to sleep more often. But otherwise, it's a bit of this and a bit of that. I wouldn't personally recommend running 24/7, although I know of several here who claim they do, with no apparent adverse effects over many years. -

There isn't one. You'll need to connect the Nano to your iTunes library and restore to factory settings. There is no other way.

Hi, does your MacBook have Firewire, or just USB?
FW is far faster if you have that.
Avoid Bus powered ones.

What is the best heap memory setting for JBoss?
I am running a Windows 2003 server and JBoss is running as service. The current heap configurations is 1024, but I am having some problems with the service failing. What is the optimal heap memory setting? Thank you,
There is no optimal memory setting for LiveCycle.
It depends on the components you have chosen to deploy. If Content Services ES2 is deployed, your heap size settings should be about 2 GB, otherwise 1.0 - 1.7 GB might suffice.

What is the proper way to set up an encoder on an Elvis prototyping board with Labview 2010?
I am using a PCI-6024E with an Elvis I and MCU Project Board. I've tried using the quadratureencoderm-series.vi as well as experimenting with the counter channels in the Measurement and Automation Explorer; however I have been unable to find the proper channels to read the data from this encoder. I'm having trouble configuring the counter to work properly. Can anyone tell me which pins I should be connecting the encoder signals to? I've attached a datasheet for the motor and the encoder. Any help would be appreciated.

MT-003-datasheet.pdf 381 KBHi jns0086,
I see your problem. I believe that example was written using Traditional DAQ, a set of drivers and functions that have since been replaced by DAQmx. What version of LabVIEW and Windows are you using? There are some compatibility issues depending on your version on LabVIEW and your operating system.
In the meantime, if you have everything connected properly, you should be able to count your edges using one of the built-in LabVIEW examples. Go to Help>Example Finder and then browse for Hardware Input and Output > DAQmx > Counter Measurements > Count Digital Events > Count Digital Events.vi. See if that helps.
Have a great day,
Chris

What is the proper way to set character encoding in an HTTPService request?
I'm trying to get an HTTPService object's request to have
proper character encoding. If I do nothing, I get "null" inside a
Java servlet when I call getCharacterEncoding() on the request
object. If I do this to my Flex HTTPService:
httpService.contentType = "application/x-www-form-urlencoded;
charset=UTF-8";
then I get a valid character encoding (UTF-8) in the Java
servlet as I should. But the problem is that my HTTPService's POST
parameters are no longer coming along with the request. If I drop
the charset value and set this instead in Flex:
httpService.contentType =
"application/x-www-form-urlencoded";
then I get my POST params in my servlet just fine, but of
course, no charset info.
(For completeness, I am also setting: httpService.method =
"POST"; and httpService.resultFormat = "e4x"; as well as the URL.)
How do I send charset info without interfering with the
transmission of the POST params? This is a serious flaw for anyone
doing UTF-8 content, because most servers are going to assume
ISO-8859-1 if you don't send anything specific. It's interesting
that Flex is actually encoding in UTF-8. I know, because I am
currently working around the problem by intercepting the HTTP
request in my servlet and forcing the character encoding to UTF-8
before binding the params. That's a lousy workaround, though.
Hint to Flex 3 developers: It would be much more preferable
to have a setCharacterEncoding method (or characterEncoding prop)
on the Flex HTTPService.Hello,
I realize this is an old thread, but the problem still seems
to exist in Flex 3 and I run into it
Unfortunately I don't understand the workaround.
Could someone point out in a bit more detail how this should
be done?
Many thanks indeed,
Peter

What is the proper way to set up how to stop a web worker?
The example here uses a pair of bools which is simple and does the job.
The sample code created when you create a web worker shows using a CancellationTokenSource & a ManualResetEvent which is quite different.
What's the suggested approach. And if it's CancellationTokenSource & a ManualResetEvent - is there something that explains how best to use them? The sample code provides no hints about how to do this.
thanks - dave
What we did for the last 6 months -
Made the world's coolest reporting & docgen system even more amazingHi David,
We usually use the worker role to host the long running application process, and we can use the Sleep method to reduce the resource usage like below:
public class WorkerRole : RoleEntryPoint
public override void Run()
{ while (true)
Thread.Sleep(10000);
//your work .......
public override bool OnStart()
ServicePointManager.DefaultConnectionLimit = 12;
return base.OnStart();
If you prefer to use the CancellationTokenSource & ManualResetEvent with WorkerRole and make your application more consecutive. There is a excellent example provided by Bibhu, I suggest you take a look at it.

FCP: What is the best quality sequence setting for HD Video with JPEGs?
Hello,
If I am editing digital still images that are 3696x2464, in order to make them into a HD video in FCP what is the best sequence setting?
There are so many HDV settings and I still don't understand the aspect ratio options...
please advise!Hello,
where do I choose the ProResLT in the setting window? and What should be the Frame Size and Pixel Aspect Ratio? I am trying different options and having a hard time finding a setting that doesn't distort or pixel the image. Please help!
Additionally, would this setting maintain the quality even when the movie is exported and burnt onto a DVD?
many thanks. -
What is the best wireless internet connections for a Macbook
I have been trying to wirelessly connect a Macbook for internet connection. What is the best router that can be purchased for Macbook that will also work with a PC.
Yes, it shouldn't matter. I just picked up an Airport Express tonight - VERY easy to setup and works like a charm. One caution - Express is a wireless router ONLY. There are no additional wired ports on it for wired systems in your house. You'll take the cable that comes from your DSL modem out of your computer, and put into the port on the Express (if you already have a wired computer). If you need a wired/wireless router, you'll require the Extreme model.
