  • What's the best mac configuration setup for Logic?

I think that I didn't configure my Mac good enough to work with Logic and I hear that there is a special configuration that should be used to have everhything work together as best as possible in terems of memory use etc. But what are the best settings? And where do i configure them?

Are you talking about within logic or the actual system?
as far as logic is concerned, the preferences / audio tab will offer you most of the controls to optimize logic for your system.
as far as the actual mac, the best would obviously be a 12 core mac pro, speced till it would spec no more LOL.
but a I5 imac and that much ram is still a reasonable beast in the home studio stakes.
the best way to use all the RAM is to run logic in 64 bit,
find logics icon in the finder, and either right/ctrl click and click get info or press cmd-I.
this will bring up the get info dialog, and uncheck run in 32bit.
hey presto, logic can get to 16gb of RAM (in theory).

16 is standard, 24-bit (new to GB4) is the highest resolution

  • How can I use 2 Apple IDs in Itunes? I have 2 IOS Devices. They each have there own AppleID. What is the proper way to sync both of them to Itunes?

How can I use 2 Apple IDs in Itunes? I have 2 IOS Devices. They each have there own AppleID. What is the proper way to sync both of them to Itunes? I wanted my teenager's AppleID to be different from mine so that she couldn't charge stuff to my AppleID, therefore I created me another one. Now when I go to Sync either device, it tells me that this IOS device can only be synced with one AppleID. Then I get a message to erase it, not going to do that, lol. If I logout as one ID and login as the other, will it still retain all synced information on the PC from the first IOS device? If I can just log in out of the AppleID, then I have no problem doing that as long as the synced apps, music, etc stays there for both. I am not trying to copy from one to the other, just want to make sure I have a backup for the UhOh times. If logging in and out on the same PC of multiple AppleIDs is acceptible then I need to be able to authorize the PC for both devices. Thanks for the help. I am new to the iOS world.

    "Method Three
Create a separate iTunes library for each device. Note:It is important that you make a new iTunes Library file. Do not justmake a copy of your existing iTunes Library file. If iTunes is open, quit it.
This one may work. I searched and searched on the website for something like this, I guess I just didn't search correctly, lol. I will give this a try later. My daughter is not be back for a few weekends, therefore I will have to try the Method 3 when she comes back for the weekend again. "
I forgot to mention that she has a PC at her house that she also syncs to. Would this cause a problem. I am already getting that pop up saying that the iPod is synced to another library (even though she is signed in with her Apple ID to iTunes) and gives the pop up to Cancel, Erase & Sync, or Transfer Purchases. My question arose because she clicked on "Erase & Sync" by mistake when she plugged the iPod to her PC the first time. When the iPod was purchased and setup, it was synced to my PC first. When she went home, she hooked it up to her PC and then she erased it by accident. I was able to restore all the missing stuff yesterday using my PC. However, even after doing that it still told me the next time I hooked it up last night that the iPod was currently synced with a different library. Hopefully, you can help me understand all this. She wants to sync her iPod and also backup her iPod at both places. Both PCs have been authorised. Thanks

  • Need to convert mini dvi to s video to run a school's Hatiachi ceiling mount projector. What is the proper adapter?

Need to convert mini dvi to s video to run a school's Hatiachi ceiling mount projector. What is the proper adapter?

Check the projector and see what kind of input is has, most have a VGA connector, so you would need a male to male VGA. You will also need the Mac mini dvi to male VGA (of course).
Some of the older projetors have a component in only, which is the red, yellow, green, RCA connectors, which are avaialable. (Usually the are fairy short, 5 ft or so,  so you would need to get a VGA with yhe mini DVI to VGA, and a component (the one with the 3 RCA's) you will probaly have to get a Female to Female VGA adapter to connect te VGA to the component.
And finaally if that weren't enough, the really old projectors have only a composite input. All I can say about that is "the hunt is on"
    Best of luck

  • What is the proper procedure to backup to multiple external hard drives if one wishes to rotate drives such that you may store one in a fire safe?

Description:  If I want to back up to two external hard drives using Time Machine, what is the proper procedure to follow such that I could keep one attached to Time Machine for daily backups, and one that I attach monthly such that I can back it up monthly, and then store it in a fire safe.  To do this, what are the exact steps to follow?
    Research in Progress:
I selected the "?" icon in Time Machine which took me to "Mac Help - Time Machine Preferences" section.  I reviewed this section, including the "Select Backup Disk, Select Disk, Add or Remove Backup Disk."  It says, "If you haven’t set up Time Machine, click Select Backup Disk to set up a backup disk. Repeat the steps for each backup disk you want to set up."  I did add two backup disks.  It goes on to say "If you already set up Time Machine, your backup disks are listed, and information about each backup disk is shown. To select, add, or remove backup disks, click Select Disk or Add or Remove Backup Disk."  Well, what is lacking here is what happens when you "Remove" the backup disk.
As I have read this section, it raises additional questions:
    What are some cautionary statements.
What happens after you remove a backup disk?  Will Time Machine recognize it later?
What is the proper procedure for removing and ejecting one of your external hard drive when you use it with Time Machine?  What happens if you don't "remove" a backup drive and instead just drag it to the "trash can, i.e. eject it" and later reconnect it.?

Time Machine supports multiple backup drives including network area storage volumes (NAS) as well as physically-connected external backup drives.
In , System Preferences, Time Machine, add the second drive by clicking Select Disk.
All available connected drives including connected network drives are displayed.
Select the additional drives, one at a time.
Connected Network drives are displayed on the desktop only when actively being used by Time Machine for backup.
When prompted, select 'use both' when adding the second drive.
Then choose Select or Remove at the bottom of the list of available devices and network volumes to add additional drives.
Time Machine then automatically rotates backups among the available designated devices and volumes.
If the drive is physically not present, Time Machine skips to the next available backup drive.
To DISMOUNT a drive to take it off-site, it is NOT necessary to remove it from the Time Machine preferences.
When the drive is NOT in use, dismount it by Command+clicking that Drive icon on your desktop (or in Finder) and then "Eject".
    That's it.
After 10 days with no backups to a given device, Time Machine does display a message and (as I recall) asks if you want to remove that drive from the rotation.
You can never be too rich or have too many backups!

What is the proper way to back up Final Cut Pro x?
Final Cut Pro X & Motion 5 are the only two programs I do not have a hard copy for.
Click and dragging the files from the applications folder to an external harddrive seems to simple to be correct.
Are their additional folders or actions that are required to back up these software?
I'm having problems and was instructed to back up all files ASAP before taking my iMac (mid 2010) to the Apple store for treatment.

Most apps from the Mac App Store are simple drag & drop installation. DId FCPX or M5 just download to your Mac or was there an installer app involved? If they just donwloaded, then dragging them to backup media should be enough. If there was an installer, then you should backup the installer. But these apps aren't going to disappear from the Mac App Store in the short time that your Mac is in a repair shop. You can also download them again fromthe Purchased pane after you have signed into your account.

what is the best mac to get for downloading over 30,000 photos?

Download from where into what? What are you going to do with the photos?
I agree with Larry that a Mac with an SSD boot drive and addtional standard drive is blazingly fast.  I have an iMac setup that way and it boots in 14 seconds.  With the system and applicaitons and iPhoto library on the SSD drive and most other documents, backup photos, etc. on the std. drive. it works beautifully.  However, I do not let the free space on the SSD drive get less than 50 GB.
I also have an external HD that I sue with Time Maching to backup both my SSD and standard drive in the iMac.

  • What's the proper way of mixing voices on top of loud music?

    Hello!
I'm working on a little something that contains very loud music and very loud voices mixed together.
It sounds great on my Logitech G35 headphones, but when playing it through my studio monitors in the living room, the voices seem to get a little drowned out by the music (The music is at a pleasingly loud level that I wish to keep, as it doesn't sound as powerful as soon as I bring it's gain down a little).
So I was wondering what is the proper way of keeping the great loudness of the music and the voices at the same time, but make the voices a little more understandable?
The music and the voices are on seperate tracks of course in my Audition file.
Here is an example of what it sounds like currently: http://soundcloud.com/stefanpanic/gameshow-trailer
    Thanks in advance!

Okay, with my acoustician's hat on:
Headphone mixing - especially when it comes to voices in the centre of a stereo field - has always been a disaster area, and you can almost always spot when a mix has been made to play on headphones, because the vocal is invariably too quiet.
I suppose that the easiest way to explain this is to consider what happens to the central voice with loudspeakers. That voice is essentially a virtual image; there isn't a loudspeaker there to support it. So it's been created out of the off-axis responses of your loudspeakers, and is in a space that's quite a distance from your ears, compared to where it would be on headphones. So, the level of this voice depends as much on the angle of your speakers as anything, and whilst this varies considerably between different setups, it's still considerably different to the relationship that headphones have with your ears!
Traditionally in the past, it's been recommended that you should sit in an equilateral triangle with your speakers, which should be pointing towards you which means an included angle of 120 degrees between them. Despite this information being repeated all over the place since the 1950's, there's no physical basis for it at all, and most people don't have setups like that anyway. And I have to say that this really isn't good positioning for establishing a central image - that angle is too great, and you are relying on an extremely good off-axis response to achieve any level at all there.
In this day and age, what you really need is a monitoring compromise that will let you create a mix that sounds not so bad on both headphones and loudspeakers, and there are a couple of things you can do to improve the situation considerably, and get a generally better result. And FWIW, it's what I do in this situation...
The first is to alter the angle of your monitors so that the included angle is 90 degrees (a right-angle) and sit so that both of them are pointing directly at your ears. This gets you a lot closer to the monitors, admittedly, but is far more realistic as far as a compromise mix is concerned. If you do your whole mix like this, you'll find that it's a lot easier to position things in it too. And don't put anything like soft furnishings between them either - that will definitely make things worse. The second thing is that one of the important things you should always do with a mix like this, to finally establish vocal levels, is to listen to it really quietly. No, really quietly! Almost at vanishing point. What you should hear is the whole mix, but if anything is standing out (like the vocal), it will become obvious like this in a way that it simply won't when it's louder. You want it to be there, certainly - but it shouldn't be either missing or standing out too much.

what is the best mac pro combination specs considering price

Huge downloads of e-mails is a function of your internet provider.  Most give you asynchronous communication, which means the sending of information back to them is slower than the receipt of information from them.  Thus simultaneous two-way communication will in fact slow you down even more.
Presentations can be a function of the display technology used.    Old VGA display based projections can be slow and cumbersome.   Newer ones with HDMI, DVI and Mini-Displayport are far better and require less conversion.
    What kind of workbooks?
Different programs have different requirements.  Again, you have not distinguished if you are interested in buying a desktop, or a notebook computer.
Desktop = Mac Pro or iMac or Mac Mini (Mac Mini can be functionally as portable as a notebook, except it does not have battery for being powered on when off the mains).
Notebook = MacBook Air or MacBook Pro
