What is the pupose of the Enable Document Cache option?

Hey All,
What is the Enable Document Cache option in the Reports Properties - General Settings? What are the benefits of this option? Documentation is lean on this one.
Thanks,
Ron

>I miss information of optimal setting for the cache. What is the ideal size and what is that setting depended on? Memory size? Raw file size?
The default size is 1GB, but it can be set much higher. When the number of previews held in the cache reaches the limit of the cache size older previews get dropped. This is the reason given for making the cache large. However, the problem with this approach is that the ACR cache preview is in addition to to the Lr preview created for the Library module. So, a larger cache will mean that even more disk space is used storing duplicate previews. If you're using a slower computer and are in the habit of quickly scanning through large number of files in the Develop module then a larger cache "might" help, otherwise anywhere between one and five GB should be more than adequate.

  • What makes the "Enable Root User" option available?

I've read the articles on enabling and disabling the root user.  They all get to the Open Directory Utility where you need to "Choose Edit > Enable Root User" .  I can successfully do this on MacBook Air with Lion, but not my Mini with Mavericks because Enable root User is not enables (grey).  WhatdoI need to do to enable it, or another way, what would cause it to be disabled?

Never mind.  I have decades experience with Unix/Linux etc. (just not so much with OS X), and in this instance I know I need root.  Besides, if not this time, then sometime soon.  Thanks for your efforts though.
All the more reason for my question. You can always get root via sudo. If you didn't have that experience with UNIX then it might be a more difficult question of explaining how to use the Terminal. The only reason to enable the root user is to perform an Aqua login as root. All of the system-level operations are far more easily done in the Terminal than in the UI. Plus, nobody, including Apple, ever enables root so there is no telling what performing UI actions as root will do. I'm not being pedantic here. I am just repeating what I hear from Apple. I filed a bug report on the buggy "enable root" operation and Apple's response was literally "why not just use sudo?".

  • What are the appropriate document/stage dimensions in Flash for tablet optimized apps?

What are the appropriate document/stage dimensions in Flash (width x height in pixels) for tablet optimized apps?
    (Dec. 2013)
Using Flash and AIR for Android/iOS I would like to develop a educational interactive title optimized for tablet PCs, hopefully both the Android but finally also the iOS platforms. With so many tablets on the market today and with different resolutions (and even aspect ratios) I have difficulty deciding what document/stage size to set for my project/app. I have been experimenting with an Android Google Nexus 7 and Samsung Note 10 tablets and discovered that Android automatically resizes the app's stage to fully fit the screen of the tablet BUT this creates the following two issues for me:
if the stage/document size in Flash is too small and I include bitmaps when the app's stage is enlarged to fit the tablet screen the bitmaps look pixelated.
If I make the stage dimensions too big so that there is no bitmap pixelation because the bitmaps will be shrank instead of enlarged, I am afraid that on some older tablets with slower processors the app may be too slow to run (but I have to say that I did not experiment with very large stage dimensions yet).
Until today I had looked at some of the most commonly used tablets on the market and their resolutions Google Nexus 7, Samsung Note, iPads etc and was inclined towards using a stage size of approximately 1280 x 720 pixels which I considered a medium solution, but now the new generation tablets came out (Nexus 7 gen 2, iPad Mini with Retina, iPad AIR etc) with much higher resolutions so I don't know what size to use now. Anybody has any suggestions?
I would appreciate any ideas and suggestions on this matter.

You explained your problem well enough that looking at the picture won't matter.  It looks like you found out too late that one of the first things you should do when you create a Flash file is set the movie properties, which include the dimensions and other things like background color, frame rate, publish settings, etc.  While the string that I just listed can pretty much be revised anytime, the dimensions should really be done before anything else, when possible.
One way to go about resizing is to leave the file as is and specify the larger dimensions in the html page code.  This could end up reducing the quality of any bitmaps you might have in the file(s) since you would essentially be enlarging them, but any Flash drawn elements will resize cleanly.
If you resize the stage, then you don't have much choice but to resize and relocate everything in it keyframe by keyframe.

  • What is the workflow document web services service?

Workflow approval message is stuck in the inbox. It mail_status is mail. It's status is open.
I can see the approval message in the inbox and it is holding up other emails as it's just sitting there.
I can't see any reason for it to be sitting there so I bounced the WF Notification Mailer using:
service_components -> WorkflowMailer Service -> Stop All wait for it to stop completely then -> start all
So after starting all -> the workflow services (all 3 ) State is Activated, but there is a Big red X in the Status and the status of the workflow I'm trying to get out of the inbox is still open.
There is nothing in the logs yet so I can't see what that big red X means.
So I decide to stop and start the WF services one by one.
I stop workflow document web services service first. As soon as it starts to stop, the Worfkflow agent listener and the Workflow Mailer suddenly start up, the big red X goes away and the messages in the inbox all process.
What's up with that? What is " the workflow document web services service?" and why is it hanging my Mailer?

I think you are trying to syndicate an XML file from the MDM Syndicator.
You will require an XML schema for this. There are two methods for this:
    1) You can upload the schema in the Console.
    2) You can take it locally from syndicator.
The root is very important as it identifies a correct schema. If you are not able to see the root, that means the XMl schema you are using is not correct.
If you have a customized repository and hence do not have an XML schema then you can generate one by using the Xomlite software. Here is the link to which explains the process:
After you generate the XML schema using Xomlite, upload it under the Admin node->XML schemas for that repository
Then open syndicator Go to File->New/Destination proeprties
    Select type->XML schema
Remote system and select the XML schema that you have uploaded.
By this procedure, you will find the root element and then you can perform the mapping in the syndicator.
    Hope it helps.

  • What is the use of constraint option in Prompt

    Hi all,
what is the use of constraint option in prompt. If which scenario it is useful.
    pls give the clear explanation.
    Regards
    bharath

NB -- I am doing this from memory, but isn't the Constraint (or limits in EAS' HBRs) just a way to reduce member selection scope even beyond security?
I think I have used this once as I generally design apps to rely on Planning member security and not add in an extra layer.

  • What are the differences in format options available for partition?

what is the differences in format options available for partition?

Select the drive in Disk Utility, click on the Erase or Partition tab, select the Format type: dropdown menu that will list your format options. For OS X the only option you should use is Mac OS Extended, Journaled. This is the standard format for OS X drives.
Then there are options for Windows - MSDOS (standard FAT format) or ExFAT (an advanced FAT system with most of the characteristics of NTFS.) OS X can read and write with either filesystem. NTFS is only readable, not writeable, by OS X.

The edit multiple frames options comes handy in such case...

  • MBP w/ retina 13" what are the best pysical security options?

Recently purchased a 13" MBP w// retina.  What are the best anti theft options? Cable? Type of connections? Key vs combination?

    Just your wits.
If it can be done, it will be done.
Any measures after the fact to get it back, like Prey or iCloud Find only might catch the local dumb thief who uses the machine online right away. Then they get a slap on the wrist and send their gang buddies to your house.
Most crooks let a hot item cool off, or sell it to a fence who will let it cool off and then send it to a crooked geek who knows all about Apple and tracking software. Then the machine is sold overseas stripped and costs too much time and effort to get it back or prosecute.
So if you don't want your machine stolen, dress it down and dont' show it off, keep a eye on it and think like a crook how they can steal it from you.
If your in a high human traffic all the time, better to buy a cheap PC instead, because people are arseholes to Mac users and will spill a drink on your laptop which will fry it in a second.
The locking cable attachment was removed from Mac's because it was too easy to cut the cable, there is a metal harness which can lock the machne to a desk if your interested. Costs a fortune.

In theory: How big is your hard drive? Practically, not that large or it will become difficult to handle. If you need to create a large document then you should use Word from Office 2011 for OS X or Adobe InDesign.

wht is the automatic document feeder tray for? how to use it?

The ADF is used to automatically feed a number of pages for scanning, copying or faxing.  Paper is loaded into the ADF with the printed side facing up.  When you then copy (or scan or fax) the pages will be automatically pulled into the scanner mechanism one at a time and then deposited in the output tray.

  • What is the "Smart Encoding Adjustments" option?

While choosing my importing settings, I couldn't help but notice the option "Smart Encoding Adjustments" at the bottom of the MP3 Encoder settings (just above the High-Pass Filter option and buttons).
I searched the discussions, I searched Google, and even the iTunes Help that comes with the software - all to no avail.
Does anyone know exactly what this entails? Maybe it's common sense to someone who knows the ins and outs of how exactly VBR MP3 encoding works, but I just don't know what to assume. I do make the assumption that most people consider it irrelevant, but why would the programmers give it to us as an option? I suppose I could experiment and encode two identical files with Smart Encoding Adjustments being the dependent variable, but I don't know exactly what evidence to look for. File size? Quality?
Whatever. I'm just looking for help and would sincerely appreciate any response that would aid me in my understanding.

Yes, Thanks! It's still quite vague, but I suppose if I'm looking for something extremely technical, I should just learn it on my own and go with other software options.
This is what I got from the article:
"If you choose to customize the MP3 encoding configuration, you can enable the Smart Encoding Adjustments option to allow iTunes to automatically adjust some of the internal parameters to improve the sound quality of converted files based on the original bit rate selection. This can include reducing the number of channels, encoded frequencies, or the sample rates."
I don't quite know how it could improve the sound quality by reducing any of those three variables, but then again, I suppose it all doesn't matter when not working with professional equipment and software.
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.
