What is the range output on the airport express?

What is the range output on the airport express?

Loaded question. It's 150 feet or so, but for most folks, this is a meaningless number.
Measurements like this are taken in a very large area like an aircraft hanger with no obstructions in the signal path.
A typical sheetrock wall in a home will absorb 15-20% of signal or more. A ceiling will absorb even more. So, after a few walls or a ceiling and a wall, more than half of the signal is probably lost. That's about as many obstructions that the signal can penetrate and still deliver a decent quality signal with some speed.
It's nice to know that the signal will go 150 feet or so, but few of us have houses with no walls or ceilings.

How to extend the range with a second Airport Express? Do I need a DSL cable?

Thanks, now we need a bit more information, please, in order to provide you with the correct information that you need.
I assume that you already have one AirPort Express.....either a model A1264 or A1392.....set up and operating OK, is that correct?
If yes, you can extend the network either by using wireless or an Ethernet cable with a second AirPort Express.....either the A1264 or A1392 model. A wired connection is the way to go, if possible, since it provides better performance.  But, wireless might work OK for you if you want to try that.
Let us know "how" you want to extend......wireless or wired?

  • Can I use an old Airport Express to extend the range of a new Airport Express?

Hi all.  I have an old Airport Express 802.11g (First Gen?) that is starting to fade.  Still works, but not what it used to be.  So I am going to buy a new Airport Express.  I'm not interested in the Airport Extreme.
Question:  If I use the new Airport Express as my main wireless router, can I plug my old Airport Express into another room as an extender?  In other words, with the old Express and the new Express talk to each other or will a new Express only allow extension with another new Express?
    Thanks!

Sorry, but the old AirPort Express 802.11 b/g does not have a setting to "Extend a wireless network", so it cannot be used as a extender with the newer AirPort Express if you plan to connect wirelessly.
If you plan to connect the older Express using a permanent wired Ethernet cable connection, then it could be configured to provide additional wireless signal coverage in that manner.

  • How to extending the range of an existing airport express network?

I have a Dell PC (Dimension 8100) and a Dell laptop (model Latitude D620). Both use Windows XP.
I use Airport Express for wireless network - it has worked very well for the past 2 years.
I purchased another Airport Express in order to extending the range. I have tried setting it up following the instructions but have failed.
Can someone please help me understand where I could be making an error? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

    Wireless Distribution System (WDS) Setup
(Note: To facilitate setting up the base stations, place them in near proximity of each other during the set up phase.)
Set up the AirPort Express Base Station (AX) as the WDS Main Base Station, by either connecting to the AX's wireless network or by temporarily connecting directly, using an Ethernet cable, to the Ethernet port of the AX, and then use the AirPort Admin Utility to make the following settings.
    WDS Tab
    - Enable this base station as a WDS: main base station (checked)
    - Allow wireless clients on this base station (checked)
    - Click "+" to add Remote/Relay Base Stations.
-- Select the Base Station that you want to be the WDS Remote/Relay.
-- AirPort ID: <verify that this is the correct MAC address for the Base Station you are adding as a Remote/Relay.
-- Auto configure as a WDS remote base station (checked)
    -- Click "OK."
    - Verify that the Remote/Relay Base Station has been added to the list.
    - Click "Update," and then verify the settings for the Remote/Relay.
-- Allow wireless clients on this base station (checked)
-- New network name: <verify that this is the same as the network name for the AX>
    -- TCP/IP: Configure using DHCP
    -- Base Station Password: <the Remote/Relay Base Station password>
    -- Confirm: <same as previous step>

  • I just replaced my airport extreme and now the amber light on my airport express is flashing and so it is not being recognized.  I have been on the computer and gone to airport utility and it is simply not showing up at all.  What can I do?

I just replaced my airport extreme and now the amber light on my airport express is blinking.  When I go to utilities and try to find the airport express it does not show up.
    What should I do?

Anytime you change networking hardware it is always a good idea to perform a complete power recycle of that hardware. Check out the following AirPort User Tip for details. Please post back your results.

Configuring the time capsule airport wlan function as "connect to wlan", the time capsule gets a correct IP adress from the other wlans IP range, but does not assign this to the ethernet ports. With Airport express it worked, the single Ethernet port got the IP Parameters passed through!
My setup is a Vodafon Esaybox connected to ISP. Time Capsule is not able to extend the wlan of the easybox, neither airport express can do.
Only the option "connect to wlan" is succesful.
With airport express I was able to connect my Sony Bravia TV to the lan via ethernet to stream pictures, the TV set got an IP adress from the easybox.
With the time capsule the easybox dosn't find devices connected to the ethernet ports to submit IP adresses. The TV set get another IP adress (169.xxx.x.x.) in subnet mask 255.255.0.0 and I don not now where from.
My notebook is a MacBook pro.
    Any idea????
    Thank a lot in advance!
    Kind regards

Neverthe less, could there be the chance, that this feature could be implemnented with an firmware update?
That would appear to be a question for Apple to answer. You can make suggestions to Apple here:
Apple - AirPort Extreme - Feedback
If the AirPort Extreme and Time Capsule are configured to "extend a wireless network" they will provide additional wireless coverage....and...the Ethernet ports are enabled in this type of setup.
The "catch" here is that you must have an Apple router providing the network to be extended.

What is the best way to use Airport Express?

It would really depend on your networking goals.
The AirPort Express can be used for a number of things:
    Internet router
    Wireless Access Point
    Ethernet switch
    Wireless Ethernet bridge
    Network print server
    AirPlay speaker
    Portable travel router
... or some combination of the above.

When a Netgear N 300 wireless router is the base station for my network, what steps do I take to add AirPort Express 802.11n as an network extender?

You don't have to do anything to the netgear.. the Express cannot wirelessly extend non-apple networks. You must plug the Express in by ethernet and create a new wireless network.. this can be the same name (SSID) and security as the netgear so it can become a roaming network.

If I connect an Airport express to my existing network will it rebroadcast the WiFi signal and therefore exrtend the overall range?
The AirPort Express 802.11n can do this if it is located where it can receive a strong signal from the AirPort Extreme in order to "extend" it.

You should archive the material in it's native format so that you have the possibility to revisit the project and make changes or generate master files in other formats.
Use the Media Manager to consolidate your project into a single enclosing folder. This can be compressed into a .zip file or disk image. It will save space if you dont include render files, even more if you make the material that came from tape, offline -although you will have to recapture in that case.

My home network has an Airport Extreme w/Time Capsule as the base and then an Airport Express and a second Airport Extreme to reach different areas of the house.  Is there a way to use the second Airport Extreme for file storage on this network?  Network is administered through an iMac running OS X Yosemite 10.10.2.  Ideally, would like for the second Airport Extreme hard drive to appear on the list of devices in the Finder window.

    Ok.. gottcha
The problem is network wise.. Yosemite is about equal to tin cans and string.. pathetic.
Here is my usual set of instructions to get anything working on Yosemite.
The best way to fix problems is a full factory reset of all the AE in the network.
    Factory reset universal
Power off the AE.. ie pull the power cord or power off at the wall.. wait 10sec.. hold in the reset button.. be gentle.. power on again still holding in reset.. and keep holding it in for another 10sec. You may need some help as it is hard to both hold in reset and apply power. It will show success by rapidly blinking the front led. Release the reset.. and wait a couple of min for the AE to reset and come back with factory settings. If the front LED doesn’t blink rapidly you missed it and simply try again. The reset is fairly fragile in these.. press it so you feel it just click and no more.. I have seen people bend the lever or even break it. I use a toothpick as tool.
Then redo the setup from the computer with Yosemite.
    1. Use very short names.. NOT APPLE RECOMMENDED names. No spaces and pure alphanumerics.
eg AEgen5 and AEwifi for basestation and wireless respectively.
Even better if the issue is more wireless use AE24ghz and AE5ghz with fixed channels as this also seems to help stop the nonsense.
    2. Use all passwords that also comply but can be a bit longer. ie 8-20 characters mixed case and numbers.. no non-alphanumerics.
    3. Ensure the AE always takes the same IP address.. this is not a problem for AE which is router.. it is a problem for AE which is bridged.. you will need to set static IP in the main router by dhcp reservations or use static IP in the AE which is tricky.
    4. Check your share name on the computer is not changing.. make sure it also complies with the above.. short no spaces and pure alphanumeric..
    5. Make sure IPv6 is set to link-local only in the computer. For example wireless open the network preferences, wireless and advanced / TCP/IP.. and fix the IPv6. to link-local only.
    6. Now mount the disk of the second AE in finder... manually.
Use Go, Connect to Server and type in the AE ip address.
    SMB://10.0.1.2
Where you will replace that address with the actual address. The network resource should be discovered and then it will request the password.. type that in and make sure you tick to save it in your keychain.
There is a lot more jiggery pokery you can try but the above is a good start.. if you find it still unreliable.. don't be surprised.
Do as much as you want of the above... not all of it is necessary.. only if you want it reliable.. or as reliable as Yosemite in its current incarnation can manage.
The most important thing is point 6.. mount the disk using direct IP address and not names.. dns in Yosemite is fatally flawed.

    Hi All,
i have used CMS in SQL 2008 R2. i have added couple of servers in its group. i have executed a query & i need to send the query output in the form of email.
basically query is checking the rows count from couple of user tables in servers.
issue here is how to copy the data that is used by CMS? i need to work on automate the rows count in difft user table in db servers
could you please suggest how can i achieve this?

    Copy to what?
    SELECT COUNT(*) FROM sys.objects
Running the above statement returns two columns (server name and count)
All the servers SS2005  and onwards , then use
    EXEC msdb.dbo.sp_send_dbmail
         @profile_name = 'name',
         @recipients = '[email protected]',
         @query = 'SELECT COUNT(*) FROM sys.objects',

  • User Defined Field that gives the date output of the last price update.

We would like to create a User Defined Field (UDF) with a Formatted Search (FMS) on the Item Master form that gives the date output of the last price update specifically the wholesale price.
    Last Price Update
    Pricelist 2 = Wholesale
    Is this feasible?
If it is feasible what is the recommended approach?
Current working UDF on Item Master.

    Thank you Gordon,
We are looking for the date output of the 'Last Price Update' based on 'Pricelist 2 = Wholesale' which is the challenge.
These 2 are the parameters for the date output, I should have mentioned that in my original message.
    Last Price Update
    Pricelist 2 = Wholesale
Per reading a bunch of other similar Forum Questions it looked like it is might not be possible to do. With there being no date on the AIT1 table and AITM.Updatedate is based on any and all updates not just last 'Last Price Update' and not sure how to use the loginstanc.
    Thanks,

  • Does the RCA OUTPUT ON THE cdx-gt56ui run both sub and preout? if so how do I switch it to PRE-OUT

Does the RCA OUTPUT on the CDX-GT56UI Car Stereo have both Sub and PRE-OUT? if so how do I switch to PRE-OUT?

    Hello Richard,
The unit has 2-channel Preamp Outputs  on the rear of the receiver, used for connecting external amps. This unit doesn't have Sub Preamp Outputs.
The rear preamp outputs can be set in the menu to output a full range signal to the rear channels, or a filtered signal to a subwoofer. When set to subwoofer, the output typically has a selectable low-pass filter and is non-fading. You can change the rear preamp outputs by selecting REAR/SUB option under Setup menu of the unit.
