What is the reason contract phones cannot be used on a prepaid plan?

I originally posted this question in the Basic Phones forum, but I think that may have been the wrong place to ask this.
I am interested in activating a phone on the $50 basic phone prepaid plan, but the phone I tried to activate would not work. It was the Casio Ravine 2 C781.
I already know that contract phones will not work on the prepaid plan. I also have already spoken with two customer service reps, and they were helpful, but they could not answer my questions.
What is the actual reason that basic feature contract phones will not work on the prepaid basic plan? Is it the PTT feature?
The Ravine 2 was new with a clean ESN, and it's just a basic phone. I don't blame anyone except myself, but I would like to avoid this in the future. btw, I gave the Ravine to my mom and dad who are on a contract plan, and it is working great.
One of the reps I spoke with said that this may change in the near future, and that phones like the Ravine 2 may work on the prepaid plan soon. Does anyone know if this is true?
To make things more confusing, I just read an older post that states if a contract phone like the Ravine is activated for at least 6 months, it then can be activated on a prepaid plan. Is there any truth to this?
Finally, I understand that there are some basic flip phones available that I can purchase like the Revere 2 and the Gusto 2, but I prefer the quality of the Ravine 2. I need the rugged phone capability due to my work environment.

HT1414 Trying to update new songs to my Iphone but getting "This phone cannot be used because the required software is not installed. Run the Itunes installer to remove Itunes, then install ITunes again". This has not occured previously.

I am trying to add new songs from Itunes to my Iphone but getting the message "This phone cannot be used because the rquired software is not installed. Run the Itunes installer to remove Itunes, then install Itunes again". This is the first time that I have had this issue as I have not had this message in the past. This must be a common thing but I don't what know what to do next. If someone would be kind enough to send me some advice, I would appreciate it.

Go into Settings>Messages>Send and Receive and make sure that your phone number is checked and iMessage reads as activated. Remove the checkmark from the email address and make sure that only the phone number if checked. It should appear grayed out, but should still have a checkmark. If the phone number does not have a checkmark, then turn off iMessage, wait a few moments and then turn iMessage back on and make sure that it activates.

There could be many causes and many solutions. All of them start with creating a backup using iCloud or iTunes on your computer. After that, try some of the steps written about in this blog;

This often means that the maximum of 3 iCloud accounts have already been created on the phone and it cannot create another account. When this happens, all you can do is re-use one of the accounts previously created or creat your account using a different iOS device or Mac, if you have one.

That sounds like an idea.I've had trouble with Verizon a lot .I I switch ed back to a non andriod phone cause of the expense it took 3 months and at least that many hours of phone calls &store visits to straight in it out...there's been many times things are blocked and a month later its back on the bill,u call and are told they can't do anything ...not there problem, can't b fixed from there end,I asked to talk to a sup. At was told I couldn't then she said I'd b told the same thing I insisted...I was on hold for about 20 minutes I hung up tried to call back they would not answer, I called my daughter had her call they answered when she told them they tried to blow her off too, so she went down to a store and made a complaint.. I have Windows capability but have never used it. I can't imagine anyone using anything other than Pages for Word Processing, etc. I use Safari and Firefox for Browsing. I use Safari primarily and Firefox occassionally. I have not used Internet Explorer for years and years. In fact, I was sort of surprised when I learned that some people do still use Internet Explorer.
I wasn't sure whether or not there was an Ultra-Safe way to go about checking to discover whether or not Apple Users had to worry about a problem with this particular bug.
Although there IS a link provided in the Denver Post's on-line version of this particular news article, I hated to click on a strange link - even if it was provided by the local newspaper. It is just as easy for the local newspaper to be fooled by bogus links as it is for anyone else to be fooled.
My understanding from friends is that there are a whole lot of local newspapers - all across the country - who are currently running this news article - or an article very similar to it.
So it would seem to me that a whole lot of Apple users all across the country might suddenly be wondering whether or not they have anything to worry about - and whether or not there was an Ultra-Safe way for Apple users to check all of this out.
I contacted my service provider about this issue but, so far, have not heard anything back from them.

Have managed to cure it based upon the following information received -
I keep having this problem with iTunes when I try to connect my iPod Touch to iTunes. I keep getting this error message: "This iPod cannot be used because the required software is not installed".
What I did:
Run the iTunes installer to remove iTunes, then install the 64-bit version of iTunes.
I have already done this required step about a hundred times and I am still getting this same error so if you have any idea of what I can do please help.
Solution
I was running the 64-bit version if iTunes, and I did uninstall and re-install just to make sure -- no luck. Turns out there's a really easy solution, I'll spare you the detail of how I figured it out, but if you encounter the same issue, here's the solution:
1) Using WinRAR (or any other decent archiving program), extract iTunesWindows64Setup.exe
2) Right click on AppleMobileDeviceSupport64.msi and choose Properties.
3) Switch to the Compatibility tab and check the "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" box, and select your only option, "Previous versions of Windows", in the drop-down box.
4) Click OK
5) Double click the AppleMobileDeviceSupport64.msi
6) Tell it to Repair your current installation
7) Done!

Are you using DHCP to allocate IP addresses via your router or Static IP allocation?
You may have an IP conflict in your network.
Check on your various network configuration parameters in your iPad, PC and WiFi router.
