What is the resolution?

I am wondering what resolution the new AppleTV will support. I have't looked into the old one because it wasn't HD capable.

While the resolution is still 720P HD as it was with the original Apple TV, the new Apple TV does support up to 30 fps instead of being limited to 24 fps. At 30 fps (actually 29.97 fps), you can watch many HDTV shows that are natively broadcast at that frame rate. If you only watch movies, 24 fps is sufficient and either Apple TV should work well.
Don't expect 1080P at 60fps any time soon lest the cost of the box increases.

All in All - I think we need to keep an eye on what the Vudu box is doing. We will never know what the studio's contacts say, but we can compare what the Vudu box is doing to see if Apple is falling behind.
Apple really needs to push HD. The Vudu box allows you to download HD movies – why can’t Apple? I know Apple is concern about confusing its customers. I do think HD buyers of content understand the limitations of iPhone and iPods. Apple can sell you an HD movie then allows you to down convert via iTunes if you choose too. Then this will allow you to play it on your iPod/iPhone and save Apple in its bandwidth from having you download two files, (one HD, one for iPod/iPhone). Also the DRM will still be in place, so everyone will be happy.

  • So what is the resolution of this QT movie?

I compiled this assortment of metadata from various programs - all for the same file:
    http://www.drewlahat.com/misc/QTPAR.gif
So what's the actual pixel count in the file? Most say 720x480, but After Effects insists it's native 853x480 (1.00 means square pixels so it claims it's not applying any pixel aspect ratio adjustments).

So what's the actual pixel count in the file?
It depends on you definition of things. If you are referring to the actual number of individual "cells" available to contain discrete data combinations and, if you are referring to each "cell" as representing a "pixel," then your "pixel count" would be 720x480 or 345,600 pixels.
Most say 720x480, but After Effects insists it's native 853x480 (1.00 means square pixels so it claims it's not applying any pixel aspect ratio adjustments).
Quite correct. What you are forgetting is the fact that it is the encoded "cells" that are PAR (Pixel Aspect Ratio) encoded--not the output "cells." For example, the same 720x480 matrix can represent either a 640x480 square pixel (1:1) display matrix or an 853x480 square pixel (1:1) display matrix. In the first case, the width of the encoded "pixel" is greater than its height while in the latter case, the width of the encoded "pixel" is less than its height. Thus, when scaled for final display where the height and width of the "pixel" is displayed as having a 1:1 aspect ratio, the displayed screen width contracts or expands as needed to render the scene at its original aspect ratio.
It may be easier just to think of an anamorphic file as having an encoded matrix property and a separate display matrix property where the first is the resolution in terms of discrete data cells or points and the latter is the displayed surface area as scaled by the viewing device. And, while the 720x480 encode matrix is probably the most common based historically on DV and MPEG-2 video (which, in turn, were rooted on analog TV display standards), they are not the only ones that could be used. For instance, I often use custom PAR values to encode TV files which range from 800x720 to 1024x720 encode matrices for 720p (1280x720) movies. The advantages of using an anamorphic encode include the lowering of your final data rate and file size for an acceptable loss in graphic detail which, in turn, increases encode speed as compared to a one-to-one non-anamorphic 720p file encode. (I.e., these are simply work flow options at the disposal of the experienced QT user to achieve specific project goals as may be desired or needed.)

  • What should the resolution and design size be for an 8' Wide by 2' Tall sign graphic?

I am creating a graphic for an acrylic sign, and the dimensions are 8' wide by 2' tall. What size should my design be to work within Photoshop CS6? Pixels or inches? Resolution? I don't want to lose resolution between design and actual print. Please help. Thank you.

If you intend to have it printed by a commercial shop, I would ask them what they would recommend.

  • What is the resolution of movies for purchase?

Per the Apple website, i think you can only rent movies in HD. And if movies for purchase are not available in HD, what sort of picture quality can I expect? Still trying to decide if it is worth purchasing movies if they are not HD. thanks...

Movies purchased from itms are standard definition (usually 640 x 480 or similar) and are encoded at around 1700 kbps, they are close to DVD quality and on my 50" plasma, providing I don't get so close as to need to turn my head to watch all of the screen then the quality is more than acceptable.
The tv will play video at a maximum resolution of 720p (540p for 30 fps) and bitrate of 5 Mbps, it will not play video at 1080i or 1080p, although it will upscale ant supported video and output it at these resolutions.
Choosing different output settings for video does not in any way determine what resolution your files will be if your purchase from itms.

  • HT1379 My computer I-mac is running super slow.  If I zap the PRAM it goes back to running well , briefly... a few hours, then back to super slow.  What is the resolution for this problem?  I have a Time machine that does back up well.

My computer is running super slow.  I can correct the problem briefly by zapping the PRAM but is resumes as a problem after a few hours.  I have good time machine (capusle) backup daily.  I have done a disk verify and there doesn't appear to be anything wrong there.
Help, this is wasting a lot of time to do simple functions.

  • What's the resolution for ios8?  freezing, crashing, sticking, malfunctioning, can't upload photos, apps going haywire, what's going on?

CAn we please bring back the the older versions of ios?  I am frustrated with the stupid changes, crashes, freezing, no uploading, malfunctioning of apps from this stupid new upgrade. I am seriously fed up with Apple and feel as if with the exit of Mr. jobs, may his soul rest peacefully, the rest of you are clearly screwing up a great thing.  Then you keep mentioning the upgrades will help the other problems - NOPE, it's screwing it up!  Just give us the older versions where our systems were working better.  Thank you VERY MUCH!
one person's dream clearly isn't another one's passion.

First things first, thank you for taking your time to respond.
However, you cannot tell me that these problems are not frustrating you.  I tried going onto Safari this morning, it crashed seven (7) times - SEVEN TIMES.  I tried checking my email, it crashed six (6) times and that is not supposed to be frustrating?  I began responding to this thread on my iPad, while typing, it froze.  I have officially switched my iPad off indefinitely and no longer see it as a useful digital companion as it was for me.
What if I was in a meeting this morning as I am accustom to using my iPad to retrieve information?  That has done it for me.  Look at the forums on iPad alone, it is riddled with complaints regarding iOS8, check Google, it is the topic of Town.  Everyone is searching for a way to revert to older versions, in other cases, people have simply deemed their iPads useless, if that is not enough to get Apple cracking then I don't know what is.  iOS7 came with it's problems too, but it was bearable, iOS8 just killed it for a lot of people, including myself.  Earlier versions of iOS wasn't even an issue.  I never encountered crashing, freezing and all these other problems in earlier versions of iOS, they streamlined well, the problems were so few, they weren't even an issue.  iOS8 is U.N.A.C.C.E.P.T.A.B.L.E!
Possibly Apple is so concerned with staying afloat with the competition they are losing ground.  Funny thing is, Apple, for me, was one of the TOP in the game, now, please, Apple has gone down under for me!
How can I take my complaint directly to Apple?  Or is this the only route to deal with the situation?

  • What is the highest resolution pulse I might Achieve w/ cRIO

I want to develop pulse manager with 9075 cRIO and 9402.
I synchronize 4 DO which I have some logics between them. What is the resolution
i might acheive between 2 pulses - one rising and the other falling?
And what is the 10nsec response time of the 9402 means (and what's the connection to te 40MHz clock of the FPGA?)
Summary - Can anyone please arrange my mind about timing in cRIO...
    Thanks,
    Yakir.

I'm not sure where you are seeing a 10ns response time.  What I see is 55ns propagation delay, which is the time it takes for the module to read it and send it on the the FPGA.
In this setup, you are limited by what the module can do.  So with 4 channels, the max rate you can read/write is 16MHz (20MHz for 2 channles).  The 40MHz clock on the FPGA is the clock rate for processing the data.

  • What is the correct resolution per inch?

If I want a 5 by 7 canvas to actually look like a 5 by 7, what does the resolution need to be set at?   I'm doing a brochure and want to send it off to a printer, but the image just looks way to small at 72.

They look different on the screen because the screen has only one resolution, nominally 72 ppi, so the same physical size will look different at different image resolutions.
They look different but they would both print as 2" × 3.5".

  • [13" Mid 2012 not-retina] What is the max output resolution of my macbook?

    Hi,
I'm in the market for a new external display. Maybe 21:9, maybe 4K, not sure yet.
I believe I have 3 options with the Thunderbolt(not mini-display)port on my Mac.
Using my mini-displayport to VGA adapter
Using my mini-displayport to HDMI adapter
    Using just a thunderbolt cable
What would be the best to use? I believe that there are Thunderbolt displays on the market (AOC has a 21:9 one I believe).
What is the maximum resolution for an external display for my MacBook Pro? Does my mac support 4K? Does it support 21:9?
    Thanks for your reply.
