What is the technical definition of a Dual Core?

How exactly does a dual core computer work? Is each core rated at 2.0ish or is that the rating combined?

See this page on Apple's website:

Each processor is running at the the specified GHz. Instead of each processor being a separate chip, they are both on the same dye along with some other innovative design related to the cache, power consumption, etc.

  • What is the exact definition of PO status "Changes transmitted" ?

    Hi'
    Can any one tel me what is the exact definition of PO status "Changes transmitted" ?
    We are using a SRM05 system.
    Thanks.

    Hi Yaron,
    Changes transmitted status u2013 is related to POs for which the output is generated and processed (sent to vendor).
    BBP_PO_ACTION_DEF> BBP_PD_PO> Go to action definition -->
    Processing time -->
    *_u2018Processing using Selection reportu2019_* -- Output is generated but not
    processed manually we have to process it.
    How to process the PO output manually?
    Goto bbp_ppf / 'Issue Purchase Order' --> Enter PO number in
    "Application Key" field --> remove the "Time frame" -->
    Process the output (click on 'Output' Push button)
    Processing when saving document --> Output is generated when you
    ORDER the PO.
    Please check the output definition maintained in your system. Also you can check this by processing the PO output manually. Once the PO output
    is processed successfully, the PO will appear in "Changes Transmitted" status search result.
    Hope this information would clarify your query.

  • What is the cell definition

    Hi all,
    What is the cell definition option in query designer and what is the use of that ?
    Regards
    Kiran Kumar

    Hi Kiran,
    I believe you are talking about 'Cell Editor' in the Query Designer. If so, let me provide few excerpts from Peter Jones book.
    1) "A cell is an intersection of two structures in a query definition"
    2) it is the 13th icon on your Query Designer (in BI7.0)
    3) "In certain situations where you need to define each specific cell of a query, you may need to use the Cell Editor. For ex, suppose you are looking to create a query that has the divisionslisted in a particular manner and you want to hold all the divisions in the list, even though there are months where certain divisions don't have any sales or data. This may be the reason for using the Cell Editor. The Cell Editor allows you to directly define specific cells in the query via the Query Designer. If you define selection criteria and formulas for structural components and there are structural components of the query, generic cell definitions are created at the intersection of the structural components that determine the valuesto be presented in the cells. Cell-specific definitions allow you to define explicit formulas and selection conditions for cells as well as implicit cell definiitons. This means you can override cell values. This function allows you to design much more detailed queries. In addition, you can define cells that have no direct relationship to the structural components (virtual key figures). These cells are not displayed and serve as containers for help selections or help formulas.
    4) The pre-requisite for this is that the query must have two structures.
    5) "A new cell reference is a cell you have defined that can be reused in a formula. If you want to re-use the value from the implicit, generic cell definition that is automatically created at the intersection of the two structural components of a query, select this cell in the Cell screen area and , using the secondary mouse button, choose New Cell Reference."
    6) "You can also change the properties of a defined cell by selecting it. I nthe properties screen, you can change the description as well"
    I hope this will be helpful.

  • Mac Pro first generation can't load Mavericks. What is the technical reason?

    Someone I know has an original Mac Pro, from 2006. I know it says that Mavericks requires at least a 2008 Mac Pro. What is the technical reasons for not including older hardware? I understand the points about the G5 and before cannot go higher than Leopard, because they stopped supporting non-Intel Macs. However, the Mac Pro, is an Intel Mac, and of course I know that Apple wants you on newer hardware, but that original Mac Pro is still a capable machine. I would like to know if there is something about what is in Mavericks (and future OSes) that precludes them from installing on older Intel Macs.

    That computer has a 32-bit EFI. Mavericks requires a 64-bit one.

    Video is the magic word for fast CPUs, large screens, maximum RAM and large HHDs.  Ditto what eww says and do not order RAM and HDD upgrades through Apple.  It is much, much less expensive through third party vendors.

  • What is the best way to run dual monitors with a 2011 MBP?

    I have a 2011 MBP and i want to run dual 1920x1080 monitors. what is the best way to accomplish this? i also have a PC attached to the monitors with the DVI connection (but would be willing to change this to the analog, if necessary). so i have teh analog and HDMI connections available on the backs of the monitors.
    what i would like to do is hook the MBP through the HDMI if possible and then i would just be able to change inputs on the monitors depending in which computer i want to use (PC or MBP).
    any ideas would be greatly appreciated. thanks.

    Ok, you either own a MacBook Pro with an Intel Processor, or a PowerBook with a PowerPC Processor.
    If your stated speed is correct, then you own a PowerBook, which will not run Windows natively. development & sales for Virtual PC has ceased. The only emulator still around, I think, is iEmulator & is terribly slow on G4s.
    Boot Camp does not work on PowerPC Macs.
    Please correct your signature & descriptions so we can identify the correct machine. Thanks!

  • What is the technical 'cause' of the infamous iMac black screen problem?

    Can anybody shed some light on what technical malfunction exactly causes the infamous iMac black screen problem? The common solution seems to be a logic board replacement. But what exactly is broken on the logic board? Is it the Geforce chip? Some kind of external driver circuitry? Or something completely different?

    I was referring to the many problems also described in this thread (and also in many other places):
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=196774&tstart=0
    In specific I am referring to machines where all of this applies:
    - internal monitor stays black after power-on
    - computer boots normally
    - external display works normally
    - internal display backlight works and can be adjusted in brightness, but all pixels are black
    - PRAM reset doesn't help
    - NVRAM reset doesn't help
    - PMU reset doesn't help
    - reinstalling OS / booting from CD doesn't help
    - machines with this problem sent to repair come back with a replaced logic board
    I'm looking for more information on the technical cause of the exact problem as stated above. So I can attempt to repair my iMac

  • What is the technical reason for lack of Audible support on Zen Micro and othe

    This is addressed to the any Creative developer who reads this. I am a developer and find it hard to understand why a relati'vely brain-dead product like a 28 Meg Muvo Nomad can support Audible but the more powerful Zen Micro's cannot.
    Can someone give us the technical reason for this?

    I dont think there is a technical reason behind it. A simple firmware update should be able to support Audible, OGG, and the rest of formats that the player does not support.

  • Getting the most out of my dual core cpu

    hi all, i have written an app which loops through a for loop within a for loop to send out tasks
    i.e.
    for( int i = 0; i < train.length; i++)
    //load training file
    for( int j = 0; j < test.length; j++ )
    //load testing file
    //train vs test
    now that i have purchased aintel dual core e6600, what should i do to make the most out of it, system monitor currently tells me that one cpu is maxed out nad say 10% of the second cpu is in use so basically one cpu is idle, i would much rather be doing two of these tests at once, one by each cpu...i was thinking of making the tarin vs test part a thread and just keep calling start, but i am worried that as once the start has been made, another will be started and so on...and i dont want hundreds waiting to go as i ahve millions of these tests to do and i wont be able to hold it all in memory so i only want two running at a time, can anyone please help by offering some suggestions
    thanks
    Danny =)

    i dont think you can control this from java.
    Chances are that there is either a java version for that CPU + OS, in which case the JVM knowns what it is running on and how to make the system calls to manage the CPUs it uses. I really have 'doubt' that this is the case.
    Most likely the JVM knows nothing about the dual core and the OS takes care of it, and even more likely the OS doesnt know anything about dual core and the hardware takes care of it.
    i would think that its done mostly in hardware and a little bit on the OS level. I dont think applications should care about schedueling and let the OS/HW take care of that.

  • Correct SDRAM, and what is the ram ceiling in a Dual 1Ghz Quicksilver?

    Hello all,
    Thanks for helping me with my optical drive question earlier. I now would like to ask about ram. At present my G4 1GHz is running OSX Tiger on 256Mb ram. Things run ok, but they could definitely be better.
    My G4 is one of the older Quicksilver models and uses SDRAM as opposed to DDR. Specifically it requires:
    SDRAM, PC133 • CL=3 • Unbuffered • Non-parity • 133MHz
    At first I thought I could simply transfer the larger ram sticks from my old G4 400MHz sawtooth, but the Quicksilver is very picky and doesn’t like any of them. I thought it would be backwards compatible and just slow everything down to the slowest speed memory stick (PC100 in this case), but no... it just didn’t like them full stop! (on a side note, I’ve checked and all 3 memory slots on the Quicksilver work fine, nothing defective there).
    Once again working on a shoestring I would like to ram up that memory to 1Gb or 1.5Gb as I have a disc for Leopard and I would like to upgrade to that sometime soon.
    So, looking on eBuyer I can see what’s described as ‘Generic’ 512MB PC133 168pin Extra Value SDRAM for £11.99 which I see as great value (here's the link). The only thing I cannot tell is if its the CL=3 variety. This means two questions:
    1) Is 1.5Gb the max ram limit for a January 2002 G4 Dual 1Ghz Quicksilver, or is that simply Apple’s ram ceiling at the time? Have people put in say, 2.5Gb on these machines?
    2) Is ‘generic’ ram a complete no-no for these machines? I really can’t see why not, but I’m not that knowledgeable either.
    Many thanks for your help.
    Message was edited by: One Brain Cell

    The QS didn't like PC100 because it has a 133mhz system bus. You can use PC133 in a machine with a 100mhz bus, but not conversely.
    The max RAM is still three 512MB modules for a total of 1.5GB. That model isn;t one that can exceed the original specs.
    2) Is ‘generic’ ram a complete no-no for these machines?
    Unless identified as suitable for Mac, most of the generic stuff turns out to be for PC. The site you linked does not provide enough support info, and Googling the "manufacturer's part number" doesn't lead to a manufacturer site, just a bunch of circular references back to the seller's site. Suspicious
    You should probably call the seller and ask for someone who knows Mac RAM. In addition to being unbuffered and non-parity, it needs to be low-density.
    With such a paucity of key Mac metrics, that listing makes be very nervous. I know RAm is expensive in teh UK based on a lot of psots all over Apple Discussions, but you have to find someone who knows Mac RAM.
    There is a great free tool for checking whether any Mac can handle more RAM than the original specs showed. It's the MacTracker database and is here:
    http://www.mactracker.ca
    I couldn't work these forums without it. It shows all the facts and specs of the machine, and always indicates if the original RAM specs can be exceed. For example, for the USB 2.0 eMacs, its Memory entry is:
    2.0 GB (Actual) 1.0 GB (Apple)
    Very handy.

  • What is the Technical Reason for Creating Message Type

    Hi,
          Is there any particular reason to use Message Type. Already we are defining Data Type. Please give me some detailed explanations.
    Thanks in Advance.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Giridhar.C

    Hi Giri,
    SAP telling below reason why we are creating message type
    "A message type comprises a data type that describes the structure of a message. For technical reasons, a data type alone is not sufficient to describe the instance of a message: Data types are defined in XML Schema as abstract types that are not yet tied to an element. You can only describe an instance of a message when you have specified a data type as an element type. Therefore, a message type defines the root element of a message"

  • HT4854 What is the Apple definition of "Personal Authorized Mac"?

    I would like to know if it is permittable to install my copy of OS X Mountain Lion on a family member's personal Mac.

    http://images.apple.com/legal/sla/docs/OSX108.pdf
    to download, install, use and run for personal, non-commercial use, one (1) copy of the Apple Software directly on each Apple-branded computer running OS X Lion or OS X Snow Leopard (“Mac Computer”) that you own or control;
    Technically, no. Also, practically, it would mean that it is tied to your Apple ID, not theirs.

  • What is the best software to burn dual layer DVDs?

    I was reading posts on a video forum and a number of the posts indicated that they had difficulty with burning software other than imgburn. However it does not run on a mac. I have used Toast for my burning. But I suspect I'll have to upgrade from Toast 7 to a newer version to burn dual layer. Another virtually universal comment was to only use Verbatum media. Should I look at another program?

    Allthough Apple has dropped support of iDVD it still works with all system versions up to Mt Lion.  So if you still have it it's the best option available.  There is just no other video DVD authoring applicaiton for the Mac that is as versitile, easy to use and producing such professional looking disks.
    If you don't have iDVD on your Mac you can get it by purchasing an iLife 09 disk from a 3rd party retailer like Amazon.com.
    If you have to purchase an iLife disc in order to obtain the iDVD application remember that the iLife 11 disc only provides themes from iDVD 5-7.  The Software Update no longer installs the earlier themes nor do any of the iDVD 7 updaters available from the Apple Downloads website contain them.
    Currently the only sure fire way to get all themes is to start with the iLife 09 disc:
    This shows the iDVD contents in the iLife 09 disc via Pacifist:
    You then can upgrade from iDVD 7.0.3 to iDVD 7.1.2 via the updaters at the Apple Downloads webpage.
