What is the timeline?

What is the timeline and how do I  get in it?

Hi
TimeLine = Where You build Your Movie Project. In iMovie'08 to 11 in the Project window.
What version of iMovie do You use ?
iMovie'08 to 09 - the Project window can only show "TimeLine" as a multiple lined set of clips - as text in a word processor (e.g. MS-Word)
iMovie'11 can show this window in two ways - as a multiple lined view - and as a - SINGLE line Start of movie to the far Left and the very End to the far Right. As it is in all Professional Video Editing Applications. The folded way to view are totally new from iMovie'08 (and may be also in FinalCut Pro-X) and to many of us very strange and "jumpy" way of working.

  • JSF 1.2 - What is the timeline??

I was just reading the JSR (http://jcp.org/en/jsr/detail?id=252) for JSF 1.2 and am curious when the changed being implemented in that JSR will be made available? What will the version be? 1.5?
According to the text in the JSR it does not cover major enhancements and there will be a separate JSR for that which will be JSF 2.0.
Can someone from the expert group fill us in?
    Regards,
    Bill

JSF 1.2 will be a part of J2EE 5.0 (formerly known as 1.5), and its schedule is therefore the same as that of J2EE 5.0.

  • What is the timeline format used in PremierePro CC?

I was trying to help someone because whenever they set their export to match sequence settings AME was doing mpeg 2 encoding but i can't really find anything that states or lets you set the sequence format in the project. i can't believe MPEG jus actually the correct format to be editing in can anyone help shed light on whats happening here? thanks!

so in both cases the first clip dropped is identical a prores 4444 intro followed by an h.264 mp4 file created by xsplit and one created by a hauppauge rocket pvr both are 1080p @ 29.97 fps. no effects but there is some volume adjustment. for some reason only the xsplit ones default to mpeg 2 output when selecting match source. for the pvr using that setting shows an mp4 output and encodes in basically 1 to 1 real time. using the match source on the xsplit generated files takes about 4 to 1 longer than real time. while setting an h264 output for the xsplit files does shorten the export a bit it still about 3 times as long of an export as compared to the exports with projects containing the files from the pvr.

  • What is the timeline for restoring sites that are down?

Our website has been out of service intermittently since at least Wednesday.  Presently it's completely unavailable, yet we received only one email of a nonspecific nature (Wednesday?)  -I'm subscribed to email notifications.  When I attempt to log onto the Admin, my browser times out.  I've notified BC via Twitter @adobebc  Yikes.

It's back up now.  I assure you that it was not available.  I'll keep an eye on it.

  • What's the timeline for Firefox 3.6 to be desupported?

There seems to be a lot of questions around Firefox 4.0 and the use of Selenium IDE as an add-on. We are concerned about upgrading to Firefox 4.0 and breaking our automated scripts. Any insight/thoughts as to how long Firefox 3.6 will continue to be supported?

Firefox 3.6.28 is the latest version for branch 3.6 and will be end of life on April 24th, 2012 when Firefox 12 is going to be released.

  • Latecomers – what's the timeline for publishing to Apple iTunes?

Hi – has anyone recently completed the publishing process, i.e. getting a magazine or book app into the App Store? The deadline for uploading pre-release apps is 6th June, so time is obviously a factor. I'd be very interested in recent experiences and any other relevant advice on making an app commercially available.

    Gry,
your question would probably be a little more appropriate for the pre-release forum.  The forum is still active until the June 6th deadline and im sure anyone from there would be willing to help you if you had a specific question on the process.

  • What is the best tutorial you've found explaining frame animation in CS6's timeline?

While I'd prefer it in book form, I'd be willing to fork over $ for a thorough video demo of frame animation in CS6's timeline. What's the best you've found?

My recomendation would be following something like the links below:

  • What is the best way to work with mixed media in 1080 timeline?

    Hi there,
    I have a project shot mostly in 1080 24p but a bit of 720 24p and 4x3 30p footage.
What is the best way to work with this mixed media?
    Thanks!
    Steven

    Hi Shane,
Ok just to recap (thanks for being patient by the way)...I have put some questions in here...feel free to write in caps to respond and we'll put this baby to rest!
    1) I will work in a 1080p FCP sequence, correct?
    2) HD 1080p footage captured as applepro res hq I will leave as is and work with?
    3) HD 720p footage which was captured as applepro res hq. Can I just drop in 1080 timeline and let FCP do its work? Or should i run through compressor, if so what setting shall I submit it too?
    4) I dont have a budget for an external hardware to convert SD to HD...should I capture my SD Beta through Final Cut and just leave and let FCP do its work? Or should I run through compressor? If so what setting shall I submit it too?
    5) For for my master sequence in FCP am I not using an I-Frame format apple pro res if I am using my apple pro res hq 1080 footage as my formatted sequence? I am not sure what you mean by GOP?
    6) I also found some 60p footage 1080p XDCAM compressor shot with the same XDCAM camera. I put in the 1080p 24p timeline but it was pretty choppy...any ideas of this conform?
Thanks very much for all your help it has gone along way,
    Steven
Saying what CODECS you are working with was my question. 1080, 720, 4:3...really says nothing. There are a dozen 1080 codecs, another dozen 720 codecs, and nearly 100 4:3 formats.
Best to capture all the footage to one uniform codec.
Second best is to work with one format and let FCP conform the rest to that...IF and only IF that format is an I-Frame format like ProRes. GOP formats as master sequence formats cause TONS of issues.
What I'd do is work 1080 ProRes, just add the 720p footage (Use Compressor to convert it if you didn't have a lot, but if you had a lot, just add it), but I'd capture all the SD 4:3 footage via a Kona 3 or Matrox MXO2 as 1080 ProRes. Hardware conversion of SD to HD is much better than anything FCP can do. AE might do good as well. But then use Compressor to convert 29.97 footage captured (you can't convert 29.97 to 23.98 when you capture) to get to 23.98.

  • Fcpx - after selecting part of a clip, marking in and out, pressing the e key does not add it to the timeline.  what do I do?

At the Mac store they showed me how to select part of the clip, Mark in an out, and then use the key board shortcut, the E, to move back down to the end of the timeline. At home it refuses to do that. I can't even drag it down. I am using Snow Leopard, not lion. Can anybody tell me why I can't get the material down to the timeline except as an entire clip?

I was stuck in this exact same position yesterday, and wow was it ever frustrating. I can't remember the exact steps I stumbled upon to figure it out, but basically you need to create a "project" (not a "sequence" like you'd think - there is no "new sequence" command in FCP X) and that "project" will in fact be the sequence you are able to add your selections to.
The same real estate the sequence lives in is also where the "project library" lives, which will overtake your sequence if invoked - look to make sure the film reel icon at the bottom left of the screen is not active (blue). If it is active, click it to make the project libary go away.
I'm still struggling with FCP X as a long time professional FCP 7 user, and from what I've read this isn't uncommon. Best of luck getting past these fisrt few awkward hurdles and onto the actual editing (which, I have to say, so far I am having a hard time being precise or creative with).

  • FCP7 HELP - Exported quicktime mov plays differently than what I edited on the timeline. The playback shows the clips with ins and outs that are different than what I set in the clips when I edited - some are too early and the clips don't playback

    Please help ASAP.
    Specs: IOS 10.6.8
    Processor 2.4GHz Intel Core i5
Memory 4GB 1333 MHz DDR3 -- Everything is edited, sourced, and stored on an 2TB external hard drive to make things go faster.
    Editing with FCP 7
When I export the sequence I edited with quicktime, the playback video is very different from what I edited on the timeline. The playback has the clips with ins and outs that are way off than what I cut, and some of the clips don't show at all or have changed transitions. However when I play in the timeline in FCP, the sequence is fine, just the way I cut it.
The source of the clips was one long .mov that I cut into clips for the timeline. Everything has gone smoothly but the exported .mov is just so different.
How can I get the time codes of the clips to be the same in the exported .movs? I just want the quicktime .mov to represent my edit exactly.
This video is due tomorrow - if the solution is too time consuming, can I play within the FCP player window and Log and Capture?
    Thanks,
    MV

What is your source material? Is it H.264? FCP does not work correctly with that material.
Click on a source clip in the FCP Browser, and once selected, type Command + 9 to see the item properties for the clip. Either report those properties, or take a screen shot of the item properties, and post that here.
Next, click anywhere in your timeline, and then type Command + 0 {zero} to see your Sequence Settings. Either report those Sequence Settings, or take a screen shot of the Sequence Settings and post that here.

  • Quicktime export is different than what's in the timeline

I'm editing a demo reel for an actor friend. One of the scenes is from a television show, but the scene she's in is not with any of the shows' more recognizable stars, so I wanted to put a little bit of the title sequence/music in front of it to make sure people knew what show it was. So I put about 3 seconds worth of it in. It looks great in the sequence, but when I do an export to quicktime (broadband medium) that title sequence is slightly askew... instead of the 3 second chunk that's clearly in the timeline, it's a 3-second chunk about 10 seconds prior to what is in the sequence. This is driving me insane. Any idea what could be causing this?
Oh, I just upgraded to Studio 2, if that makes a difference.

I thought of that too, but it was ripped from a (non-copy protected) DVD, and the title sequence is its own chapter. So of course, the little chunk I need to use is pretty much at the tail end... I don't have 10 seconds after it.
    Thanks for the suggestion, though!

or imagine you import large images sequence (200 hundred) and

The edit multiple frames options comes handy in such case...
