What is the warranty on a replacement hard drive in a Macbook Pro.

I had my hard drive replaced less than a year ago, (out of warranty of course) and lo and behold it is doing the same thing again and the apple store is telling me that it is not under warranty and warranty is 90 days. Also says I need a "hard drive bracket" that should have been installed at time of replacement but that is also gonna cost me another $56.00, Maybe I should have went with a Windows computer and avoided all this costly repair on my $3000.00 paper weight.

I'm not sure exactly what the tech at the apple store was referring to when he mentioned the hd bracket. But I do know he said it includes replacing the wire that connects to the hd which sometimes becomes kinked and causes problems. When I asked him why they didn't replace it at the time of the last hd replacement he said it was not standard procedure at the time, but now Apple wants it replaced anytime a hd is replaced. In my opinion they are admitting that there is a problem and it should be replaced for free, but they don't seem to feel the same. They also said there isn't a known issue with the hd in these units, but it seems kinda weird that if that is whats wrong with mine, it will be the second time and I'm sure I don't have over 100 hours of use on it since it was replaced last time.

    Pre-installed with what?
Your best bet is to always format a new hard drive,  so there are no surprises.
If you buy an external HD specifying  ready for Mac ( or some such) it will cost you more for nothing.

  • What is the best way to add hard disk space to macbook pro?

I'm running out of disk space on my macbook pro. What is the best way to add disk space?

another way of doing it is to replace your hard drive with a larger one.
if you're technically capable, it takes 10 minutes for the swap and an hour minimum to clone your hard drive or do a data transfer.  all depends on how much data there is to trandfer or to clone.
    good luck.

  • Managing two internal hard drives in a Macbook Pro

Upon reaching the storage limit of my internal 7200RPM 750GB SSHD, I replaced the optical drive with a 5400RPM 1TB SSHD.
The Macbook Pro in question is the top end early 2011 15" model running Yosemite.
The 750GB drive is where the user folder, applications, etc are stored.
The 1TB is where I store my music, photos and movies along with some other miscellaneous things.
I have noticed a significant decrease in battery performance since installing the second drive. I was expecting some decrease but not to the extent that I have experienced.
Itunes, Lightroom and FCPX all seem to work well with the second SSHD.
What are your experiences with two internal hard drives in your Macbook Pro?
How do you manage two internal hard drives?
Aside from replacing the SSHDs with SSDs, what are your thoughts and experiences with running RAID arrays?
Any performance tips that you can share for getting the most out of my setup (circumstantial and installing SSDs are out of the question for now)?

Start over. Partition the new drive and install Lion. Activate FileVault. Then restore from your backup.

  • HT1386 I had to replace the corrupted hard drive in my macbook pro recently, and after I did so I did a full factory software & application restore.  Now my iTunes says my iPhone 5 is no longer an authorized device.  What should I do?

I had to replace the corrupted hard drive in my macbook pro recently, and after I did so I did a full factory software & application restore.  I had to rebuild my iTunes Library by dragging my music folders in my iTunes Media into the iTunes Application and rebuild my playlists manually.  After plugging my iPhone 5 into the computer USB, it immediately recognized my iPhone 5, showing: last backups, space left on my iPhone & all options available.  I then checked the box to manually manage music etc.  The problem I am now having is that when I actually try to drag music from my iTunes to my phone a prompt comes up saying that my iPhone is not an authorized device.  What should I do?  Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated!!

    jrmetzger,
iOS runs on iPads and iPhones; OS X runs on Macs.
Given your situation, I’d highly recommended that you purchase a SATA-to-USB adapter, so that you can test both your old disk and your new disk externally, since it might be that the problem is due to a faulty internal SATA cable rather than due to faulty disks.

  • I just replaced the hard drive on my macbook pro, reformatted new hard drive and copied over a backup from time machine now I have a kernel panic message (you must restart) - what do I do now?

i just replaced the hard drive on my macbook pro, reformatted new hard drive, installed a back up from time machine and now have kernel panic ( you must restart your computer) what do I need to do?

If you're able to boot, launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ If you’re running Mac OS X 10.7 or later, open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the page that opens.
Select the most recent panic log under System Diagnostic Reports. Post the contents – the text, please, not a screenshot. For privacy’s sake, I suggest you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header and body of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don't post "shutdownStall" or "hang" reports.
If you can't boot in the usual way, try a safe boot. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
    Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
During startup, you’ll see a progress bar, and then the login screen, which appears even if you normally log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Safe mode is slower than normal, and some things won’t work at all.

  • Does replacing the hard drive in a MacBook Pro early 2011 void AppleCare?

Does replacing the hard drive in a MacBook Pro early 2011, as described in the manual, void AppleCare?

    here's one of the provisions....
Warrantors cannot require that only branded parts be used with the product in order to retain the warranty.[2] This is commonly referred to as the "tie-in sales" provisions,[3] and is frequently mentioned in the context of third-party computer parts, such as memory and hard drives.

  • What will Apple charge me to replace hard drive?

My iMac hard drive is failing and needs to be replaced (according to Disk Utility). What will Apple charge me to replace hard drive or should I just do it myself? Purchased new in mid-2010 and I do not have AppleCare. I've seen videos on replacing the hard drive and it seems a bit tricky. Any advice?

Thanks for the response and suggestion. I will give them a call once I get ho,e and have my serial number etc on hand. If anyone has done this, please post what you were charged. Thanks!

What is the exact name of the cable I need to connect my old hard drive from my macbook pro, which has been removed from the computer, to my new macbook pro?  I need to transfere files from the old hard drive to the new computer.

No eSATA to USB. Just a SATA/IDE to USB adapter. Google SATA/IDE to USB adapter and you will get tons of links to buy them. Most likely your local computer electronics store has them, although they might be more expensive buying locally than online.
I have several. You can get either USB 2, which what I recommend, or USB 3. USB is backward compatible so a USB 3 adapter will work on a USB 2 port and a USB 2 adapter will work on a USB 3 port. Backward compatible in both directions.
I suggest a USB 2 type because there have been some problems with certain USB 3 devices, the USB 3 interface used isn't all that good in those certain devices. USB 3 is still fairly new where as USB 2 has been around for over 10 years.

  • Hi. I've changed my hard drive on my macbook pro and wanted to reinstall logic pro but although I took the serial number from the "about" box it rejects it when I try to reinstall. It was an upgrade to Logic 8 originally. What can I do? Urgent!

Hello. I have installed a new hard drive on my Macbook Pro with OSX Tiger. I tried to reinstall Logic 8 Pro but it refuses the serial number when I try to install it. I took the serial number from the "About" box when Logic was still installed but no good. The software was originally an upgrade, and I don't think I have the disks for the previous version. What do I do? This is important because I only use the computer for music. Thank you.

There's actually an even simpler solution that doesn't include buying a new version of Logic.  He can use his original version easily.  Of course, that depends if the OP knows how to effectively use his computer though...

I agree with teh OWC sggestion above, but why must it be USB powered? I find that far more unreliable, and the low power devices slow.
I'd frankly get a good external enclosure and buy a bare drive.  But the OWC stuff is quite good - vastly better than some of the majors (WD being aprime example of stuff that's boderline quality and often not compatible)

  • Apple put a new hard drive into my MacBook Pro and updated the system to Maverick. They did not put iPhoto and iWeb on it but I did have it in Lion. Why and what am I supposed to do?

Apple put a new hard drive into my MacBook Pro and updated it from Lion to Maverick. They did not put iPhoto and iWeb on it but I did have it in Lion. They also didn't put Pages, Keynote or Numbers back on it until I argued with them. Of course, I didn't have my data backed up. My hard drive was destroyed when I tried to install the update of Mavericks myself. I should not have to buy iWeb and iPhoto when I already had them. Suggestions?

    cwhargrave,
have you tried looking in the App Store, to see if you can redownload iWeb and iPhoto there gratis?
If you haven’t done so already, you should purchase an external hard drive to act as a Time Machine backup destination, so that you’ll have an option to rollback to a working environment if a new OS installation is troublesome.
