You can use this extension to hide the pop-up that shows the URL of a link on hover and other data that previously appeared on the Status bar.

    Hi,
I have a Folder called "Pictures"  (My Pictures seems a bit "Windowsy" to me)
I don't have a Media folder inside there.
It would help to know if this is actually within the iTunes Library
Having said that I tend to use Eric's Method.
Pic of My own Card in the Contacts list
It shows where I have used Faces (from iPhoto) and Defaults (Login pic choices for the Account pic).
My iChat/Messages pic is the same Signature pic as used here and is in the Recents Tab on show.
You can even use the Camera if one is attached (Mac Minis and Mac Pro require External Cameras).
Drag and Drop is my preferred method.

  • How do I stop the spinning ball that keeps going and going and going

How do I stop the spinning ball that keeps going and going and going.  I think I have to remove cookies, but I don't know how.

    I think I solved it.
I searched my extensions folder (in my profile) for all image files (PNG and JPG), and found the pop-up images to be in an extension folder related to Firefox Sync (not an external extension, actually). But even though I had already disabled it and un-linked this computer from Firefox Sync, the message still popped-up.
I think the image filename was SYNC.PNG, or something like that. Close Firefox, find the folder where that image is in, and rename the main folder (the one right under the extensions folder) to some other name (such as "original name_copy"). Then start Firefox. Check if it works OK and if the pop-up ceases to appear. If everything OK, then you can delete that folder.
If something goes wrong, just rename the folder to what it was before.

What could this mean? It keeps appearing on my console. I"m trying to install a Fitbit Tracker and can't get it to recognize the device. wondering if this has something to do with it. Thanks!

It means you've installed some kind of third-party VPN software that isn't working.

Hello, do you have the Install Discs for it?
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.

  • I thought as a consumer, Apple works for us.  Had I known what I'd lose by upgrading, I would have thought twice!!!  I want Front Row BACK!!! also what is this new playlist that was auto added when I upgraded?  It's called iTunes  Artwork screen?

Think the iTunes artwork playlist is for a new screensave they put in where if you click the album artwork it plays the song.

  • What causes spinning beach ball upon waking from sleep

I have a 4 year old iMac that has recently developed an intermittent problem. If I put it to sleep, sometimes on waking up, the hard drive access seems to stop. I hear a tap sound as though it was trying to read the disk, but it gets stuck and a spinning beach ball appears instead of the cursor. I can move it around, but I cannot perform any actions. The ball will stay forever if I let it.
Another variation occurs shortly after wake-up, where I start to click on a file on the desktop or even an icon in the Dock. The name will become highlighted and then the same spinning beach ball appears.
The only cure for the behavior has been to shut it down and reboot. It then works fine.
The weird thing is that I have just been using it for 6 hours straight with out any hassles... until I will put it to sleep!
I have tried running Disk Utility from the Leopard System Disk as well as repairing permissions and I have used Disk Warrior 4 . It seemed to allow about 6-8 sleep cycles before the symptoms re-appeared.
I verified the disk and repaired the permissions again yesterday and all seemed OK. Yet today, when I started up from sleep. the system froze. The only cure so far is to never allow the hard drive to sleep. I put the display to sleep after 15 minutes but the hard drive continues to spin.
I am concerned that not sleeping the hard drive will do harm to it.
I am using OS 10.5.8 on a 233 Ghz Core 2 Duo iMac
I have Parallels 4 installed and cannot tell you if the problems started after a PC session.

    HI Studio Guy,
Welcome to the forums. When ever your having trouble with a computer; it's really a good idea to back every thing up. If your not backing up; http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1427 explains how to back up your computer to an external hard drive. (assuming your using 10.5 or 10.6)
You could try running a hardware test on the computer. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1509
You could try a safeboot, it can repair lots of issues. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1455
This article explains how to delete the sleep image; a bad sleep image can cause wake from sleep issues. http://osxdaily.com/2010/10/11/sleepimage-mac/
But if your hard drive is rapidly making a taping noise you may want to take it to a genius bar; they might recommend replacing the hard drive. http://www.apple.com/retail/geniusbar/

  • What is this  mobilebackup volume that just appeared?

I just noticed a new volume, Mobilebackup. I appears to be a few days old, and appears to have the same kind of files that Time Machine does. It has backup files of two volumes (of four), and has one folder for the first day, and varying numbers of folders thereafter.
What is this? Where is it? Why is it?

  • What is this extra cable that comes with MBP?

I just got my MBP today and it came with two AC cables. One is the magsafe whcih is what i;m already using, but it also came with another cord. this one is a lot thicker and it is 3-prong. what is this for? i can't find a slot on the magsafe of the MBP that apparently fits it. thanks

hey, i think that it is the extension for the magsafe adapter, if you grab the part of the magsafe where it plugs into the wall you should be able to slide it off with a little force, you can then slide the extension on and it will be much longer. hope that helps!

  • Beach ball of Death at log in Screen Macbook Pro Retina Mid-2012 10.10.3   supplemental

I have a MacBook Pro Retina Mid-2012 that is running 10.10.3 with all updates (including supplemental 10.10.3 update), that will "beach ball" when I click one of the user accounts after the MacBook starts up.   If I wait 10-15 minutes, I am able to enter a password.  Usually after doing so, it takes another 10-15 minutes to log in before I can actually use the computer.
    MacBook is joined to domain.
Problem with beach ball occurs on all user accounts, domain, local and mobile.
Can boot Mac into Safe Mode just fine- no beach ball.
I have tried reinstalling Yosemite using the Recovery Partition.  This did not fix the problem.
Original Yosemite install is a clean install on the Mac hard drive (completely erased existing OS before installing Yosemite).
Recently purchased the Mac- problem occurred 2 weeks after purchase.  I had been using Mac with 10.10.3 fine up until yesterday.
Tried resetting NVRAM and SMC.  No change.
Booted into Safe Mode, ran Disk Utility.
Booted regular (waited) and ran Disk Utility.
No change after running Disk Utility.
Not sure if this is a residual 10.10.3 problem (again, the Mac has the 10.10.3 supplemental update) or it is a hardware problem.
    Any ideas?
    Thank you

The spinning beach ball is the please wait. Till your computer can allocate more memory to the app you are tying to open. Since it happens in all user accounts, you have an app or apps with a startup item that is using a lot of memory. Something that all users have access to. That is why you can startup in safe mode. Opening and running the activity monitor in all processes for memory might help you to find out what is causing this. It could be more than one process. Safe mode disables a lot of startup items and some other non essential apps. You could download and run Etrecheck. Post it and we might be able to see where your problem is.http://www.etresoft.com/etrecheck If you have a lot of ad on programs that you run ,you might need more memory.

  • What is this AVILMA module that was replaced in my...

that is indeed an interesting question. i googled it and it said it was a board component, which i can only guess it is a component of the mainboard in the N82. though for 8 bucks U.S., it may not be much
well actually did some more digging and it seems that it is a Ball-grid array: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ball_grid_array

You are correct. Remove it from your system.

  • I just upgraded to Firefox 4 and I get this error window that displays off and on screen this what I can read " ug-in object: TypeError:" and the second line "id] is undefined" but when I click the OK button the Firefox opens ok. What's wrong?

    I'm running Mac OS 10.6

I also have the same issue with McAfee SiteAdvisor and FF4 on a MacBook Pro running the latest version of Snow Leopard. I have put in a service request with McAfee and will update this post in approx 48 hours unless they respond sooner. Seems like a far to common app to somehow have "missed" testing on a browser release that was scheduled for a while.

  • I have attempted to change my home page a number of times but it keeps going back to a Bing/Google search page (set up by eSnips). Where do I got to get rid of this home page that keeps poping up every time I open Firefox?

I had downloaded something from eSnips and likely I missed the "set my home page" check box. So when I opened Firefox, I ended up with this eSnips "Google/ Bing" search page.

After trying many of the suggestions found online I found that the only thing that worked was to completely uninstall firefox and re-install it again!

  • What's this blue triangle I keep seeing?

    Hi you guys,
I've had my Blackberry for a couple months now and about once a week I notice a small blue triangle at the top of my screen.  I can't find the info about it in the user manual.  Do any of you know what it means?
    Thanks,
    Heidi
